I was at Palmer’s for an anniversary party with friends, and everything about the evening was wonderful. The food and atmosphere were excellent, but the service truly went above and beyond. A big shoutout to our wait staff…Morgan, Tyler, and Kyle. They were incredibly kind, patient, and genuinely seemed to enjoy serving. You could tell they have a natural gift for hospitality. Even with a very large party, they handled everything with ease and such positive attitudes. If you dine here, I highly recommend requesting them. They were fantastic! 👏 Their sweet, joyful personalities made it feel like friends were taking care of us. We absolutely loved them! 😊
Each and every time we visit our daughter in San Marcos at Texas State, we eat at Palmer‘s. From their fabulous brunch or five star dining service… We are never disappointed! The Owner, Monte, went completely out of his way to create an incredible experience and make our daughter feel special. The amount of effort and detail that was put into making the night perfect was truly exceptional. The GM, Kyle, spent time at our table which we truly appreciated and our server Sami was wonderful. Looking forward to returning again soon!
Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. We were seated immediately, all of the food was excellent. Tyler was our server and he did a fantastic job, was very knowledgeable about the menu. Monte came and checked on our table even offered us samples of the short rib and candied pecans. Top notch service!
Palmers never disappoints! Went out on a bit of a chilly night last night and was immediately was gretting by staff! We were sat and greeted by Ms Kaitlyn! She was lovely was recommending all the right drinks for us. Me and my wife had a wonderfull anniversary night out. Cant wait to come back! Definitely recommend the Lonestar Flatbread also was told us the goat cheese is local which is awesome that Palmers does that!
Sam was awesome from the top! Super friendly and gave excellent cocktail recommendations. He also helped us pick a few delicious things off the menu, as it was our first time in and we weren’t sure what to try. Made the night great! The patio is gorgeous as well, with the live oaks integrated in.
Alyssa was our server. She was amazing. She made sure all of my gluten free needs were taken care of and even did a card trick for us. So much fun!
We booked Palmer's for a graduation dinner for our son and it was wonderful. From the first email exchange to the fantastic desserts, Events Manager Morgan Martin took care of every detail and took great care of the entire group. The event was full of pleasant surprises, including welcome signs, custom menus and school-themed decorations. And the private Library room was perfect and warm. We can't recommend Palmer's (or Morgan) more highly.
This was our first time visiting Palmer's since moving to San Marcos two years ago. I honestly did not know that places like this still existed. This is an old school upscale restaurant that isn't trying to be anything new or modern and I loved it. The atmosphere was quiet, refined and unassuming. The food was good, quality food made with true excellence. Everything we had was superb. The service was perfect. Our server was attentive without hovering. I can't wait to have another meal at this beautiful place.
I came here for happy hour and it was beautiful my server was Tyler he was super funny and made sure I had everything I needed the bartender Morgan made an amazing virgin margarita and the chips and queso were amazing! All the servers were super kind and Alyssa even came to check on me super amazing staff can’t wait to come again !
Hands down one of if not the best dinning experience I have had in San Marcos. From the lovey Host Claire opening the door for us and seating us on the beautiful patio with the pretty fountain! Our sever was Alyssa and she was great! Always refilling our drinks or the 3 baskets of bread we had.. Even had chats with the other severs Sami and Kaitlyn they were very nice! Don't even mention the size of the Chicken Fried Steak was definitely bigger then my stomach shout out to Wyatt in the kitchen! Big thanks to Willie in the kitchen for giving us a delicious complimentary birthday new york cheesecake that came out on a fancy plate with a candle! Along with the others the Chicken Pesto Flatbread was another loved food choice at our table! Also had a chat with the manager Kyle! Sounds like he has alot of cool stories! Shoutout to my son and his girlfriend for picking this wonderfull spot for my birthday will definitely be back!! Thanks again Palmers!!
Me and my boyfriend have been to Palmers multiple times, and will continue to come! Truly one of our favorite restaurants ever. We spent his 22nd birthday here, and our dining experience was amazing. Our server, Sam, gave such good recommendations and he was very thoughtful throughout our time there.
First time guest. Sat in the bar area. Andrew was our bartender/server. We usually try to visit upscale nice restaurants on our Sunday outings. Palmer's did not disappoint. Andrew made some great recommendations for our meals. We had the 3 egg omelette with crawfish, variety of veggies and hollandaise sauce. Potatoes, crispy bacon that was probably the most perfect and flavorful that I have had in a long time. Only complaint was the potatoes were not hot. But I could actually overlook that minor issue because they tasted so good even at room temperature. We had a salad with the vinegarette dressing which was a nice surprise if flavor. I'm not a crouton eater but these must have been house made they were so good. Not sure they were but I was surprised. We also had the pancakes that were the closest to homemade. They weren't full of artificial flavor or vanilla extract to cover the cheap taste. They were so good you could eat them without butter or syrup. (Well to be honest I need the syrup but my wife didn't.) I do like to relax and enjoy a few drinks as well. I tried a variety of drinks from the Apricot buck, Mimosa and a Bee string. They were all good. My next visit I plan on a few other of my favorites. The juice is fresh squeezed and they infuse a variety of about 7-9 flavors of vodka. Something new for me was the flavor infused ice balls. The atmosphere was comfortable and cool walking in but as the day continued the room felt warm. I'm sure due to the customers and the door to the courtyard being used. One plus for me was that the owner/manager Monte and Kyle visited the table. We were welcomed and asked how our dinning experience was going today. You could tell from the conversation and the true concern they were interested in our visit. I look forward to next trip. This was truly an A+ experience in dinning. I already look forward to my next visit. Probably later this week or Friday for the early hours. We did have a slow Sunday so hung around for a little bit. I think the bartender got a little frustrated but it not like it was overly crowded and we were taking up another customer tip. Sorry if that was the issue but overall it was a good time Even though you may say not the case. Sometimes reading people is easy.
We had a delicious dinner and our server was friendly, knowledgeable and overall great. The manager, Monte, came by 2x asking if we needed anything. He learned we were fresh in from Boston and gave us all kinds of insider tips to the area! I ordered the Signature Chicken which I never would have (as I cook chicken all the time!)but.. .The goat cheese and preach preserves were outstanding! We loved everything about this restaurant!
This sophisticated restaurant on the outskirts of downtown San Marcos wraps around a beautiful courtyard. They have numerous tables in several dining rooms as well as a bar area. Their menu is reasonably priced for how thoughtfully composed and executed the meals are. I enjoyed the pecan crusted chicken and look forward to trying the meatloaf. They also have an extensive menu of desserts and cocktails, particularly different Mexican martinis. They have a small parking lot alongside the building and overflow in an adjacent lot.
From the moment we walked up, we were mesmerized by the vibe of this restaurant/bar! The waitress, Paris P, was a fantastic server. The food was well worth the wait, and the special purchase of a Bourbon Gift for Dad (1806 Old Fashioned, rocks glass and pecans) was a great touch! Will def I nicely return!!
We had a lovely experience here, as a party of 13, they were so accommodating. The deserts of which we had many, were fantastic! I had the crème brûlée! Chef’s kiss perfect! My husband’s carrot cake, which of course, I sampled, magnificent! The biscuits my SIL had were amazing. Everything we tried from brunch foods to fancy adult beverages, was great, but best of all was our server Tate! Thank you Tatelynn for taking such good care of us! We will most certainly be back!

We came for cocktails and at at the cocktail bar section. We only ordered the charcuterie and salmon to share. Both dishes were good but in my strongest opinion, not worth the price. As for the cocktails, we each had a variety of martinis and all were superb! Will definitely come back just for the ambiance and cocktails.
Nice place, but dated in decor and dark. Started with the Brie appetizer. It was nice, but got cold very quickly. I wouldn’t get that again. Loved the short rib enchiladas and the Texas margarita. Enchiladas were served with rice and zucchini, which I love, but would rather have had rice and black beans. Service was amazing. We came in a little after 4 pm and were asked if we had a reservation. Restaurant was almost empty, but maybe they expect you to make a reservation.

So me and my fiance dined here tonight and let me say first, Tyler was phenomenal. I have worked on food service for many years and this kid was connecting with every guest and handling fires left and right with an amazing attitude. But as someone in food service, I could recognize very quickly that Tyler wasn’t getting any support. He was left with a large section by himself with no busser. I will give some credit where credit is due, the owner was there and ran two things to our table to help, that is a positive. However, close personal friends of the owner were sitting next to us and he, the owner, took the liberty of pulling a seat to there table and sitting down with them for dinner. With our poor server drowning, and I can imagine the stress of serving the owners family or friends, it was not a good look at all. We waited between 20-30 minutes for each of our courses which I can understand is a kitchen issue but again it just felt like Tyler was left out to dry. We talked to the manager on duty and he said the staffing issue was because of the forecasted weather (we sat on the patio). But in any case the servers inside and the management team should all be working together to run food, run drinks, and bus tables. We come here very year on our anniversary and we will be back, but tonight felt like a great opportunity for the leadership team to focus on quality of service instead of treating it like a low stakes Tuesday.
I’m from Houston and drove to San Marcos for a dinner symposium for work that was being held at Palmer’s. The atmosphere is great! Super elegant and clean restaurant. The drinks were great as well as the charcuterie, salad, and dessert of berries and cream. The ribeye, however, was the worst I’ve ever had in my life. Of the people that ordered the ribeye, everyone sent it back picked over. I was able to eat the mashed potatoes and zucchini but that “steak” was so bad. It seemed to be very low quality meat. The server was super attentive and restrooms were clean. I would go back if in town but I know to avoid their steak. The management should try to get to the bottom of this issue.

We went to Palmer’s in San Marcos expecting a nice meal—heard good things about the place and the courtyard vibe. Just three of us, no drinks, shared one queso appetizer, and ordered entrees. Total letdown, honestly a sorry attempt at dinner. We did opt to eat on the patio. Started bad: our waters came in those plastic throwaway cups and one was straight-up dirty. Queso was barely warm, like room temp. Not gooey or hot at all—big miss on something basic. The classic salad ($14) was just a very small wedge with some pecans, seemed like packaged bacon and sun-dried tomatoes. Tomatoes were good, but nothing special. I was hoping for something better, like a warm bacon candied pecan house salad, not this basic version. Entrees were awful temperature-wise: • Meatloaf with au gratin potatoes came out cold. Potatoes weren’t sliced thin like real gratin—just big wedges with cheese kinda stuck on. Sent it back, got it microwaved, came back a little warmer but still meh. • My BLT pasta with added chicken: bottom was sorta warm, top cold, and the chicken was so dry. Couldn’t even cut it easy with a serrated steak knife, tough and chewy. • Seafood étouffée wasn’t hot either. We tried to eat it anyway, but everything felt off. For no drinks or anything extra, it wasn’t cheap, and it was disappointing. My husband said flat out he’d rather hit Whataburger next time—at least there the food’s hot and consistent. We really wanted to like Palmer’s—the historic spot, menu sounds good on paper—but the kitchen was way off that night. Dirty cup, cold/microwaved food, super dry chicken… nah. Won’t go back. If you’re in San Marcos looking for reliable comfort food, maybe try somewhere else. Sorry to be negative, but had to share so others know.
Firstly, we made reservations back in April for our son's graduation at TXST. The reservation time was 6pm, and upon arrival at 5:45, we were told we would have a considerable wait time. After 45 mins I ask one of the 3 hostesses about our table. She said we were waiting on the table to clear that just got their food. After they were done, the "manager" came and said he had a gameplan. A hostess and a waiter had to clear the table for us which was in the bar where we had been waiting. We should have at least gotten a table in the dining room for a special occasion with reservations for 8 months. Obviously short-staffed other than the host stand, the manager should have stepped up and helped rather than hiding in his closet behind the bar. The food for the most part was good other than a grilled chicken salad which had been sitting for 30 mins or more before coming out. The best part of our meal was the cake we had brought in from Lauren’s Wildflower Bakery. The waiter did his best but he had several tables at the same time so it wasn't great either. All and all the celebration dinner for our son was a disaster sadly. We were at Palmer's 2 hours and 45 mins without even talking after dinner. This place needs trained managers that know customer service. We were not checked on, asked if we needed anything, or how our visit could be made better and he knew our frustrations. $375 for this treatment!!!! WILL NOT BE BACK
