1919 Cafe offers a diverse selection of food in a cafeteria-style setting with indoor and outdoor seating. It's known for large portions and reasonable prices, especially considering its location within Huntington Gardens. The main complaint is the long lines during peak hours.

I had lunch on a Sunday afternoon with friends and we each bought food from different places. My favorite is the Poke Bowl, but my friend ordered the Taco Bowl and she said it was delicious. The portions were a lot, neither of us finished our food. The Poke Bowl was a little over $20 and definitely worth it for the quality. Sunday was a very hot day so we didn’t struggle to find a table which can be difficult on more crowded days. We tried the desserts but I wasn’t a fan of either of the ones we ordered: apple crumble and a mango moose pastry puff. I plan to return many times in the future, the ambiance is wonderful and nothing beats a stroll through the garden after a good meal.
I really like the expansive menu here. Lots of options that weren’t overwhelming to choose from. The salads are fantastic. My poke bowl was delicious and the perfect meal for a full day of walking. The generous amount of food is well worth the price.
I love their spicy turkey burger! My husband enjoyed the vegetarian options, tofu shawarma and bowl. We’re looking forward to our next visit to see what’s blooming in March.
The food at 1919 Café was fantastic and surprisingly affordable compared to similar dining experiences near LA. I loved dining on the patio with a beautiful view of the gardens it really added to the experience. The carrot cake was moist and delicious, and my tacos were packed with flavor. A perfect spot for a great meal in a stunning setting!
We went to the 1919 cafe today for lunch. I really liked the selection there, they had a lot of vegetarian options. The food was very reasonably priced for the servings. The pizza slice is about 1/4 a pizza for $9. The Food was very tasty
Great place to fuel up while checking out the Huntington. Cafeteria style with a bunch of different types of food like Mexican, pizza, etc. All pretty good at a good price. I liked my taco bowl more than expected. Heard the sushi and burger is pretty good too. Sweets were the only miss, they all taste the same (just sugar.) plenty of seating both indoors and out. Also you get a discount if you volunteer!
From the moment I walked in, I was captivated by the inviting ambiance and the wide array of culinary offerings. What truly sets 1919 Cafe apart is its diverse selection of food stations, catering to every palate imaginable. Whether you're craving a guilt-free meal or indulging in comfort classics like pizza and burgers, this cafe has it all. The inclusion of healthy food options alongside more indulgent treats creates a perfect balance for any diner. Speaking of balance, the beverage options were equally impressive. With a variety of choices available, the standout for me was the lemonade. Its exceptional taste was a refreshing and delightful complement to my meal. As for the food, I opted for the Mexican salad with avocado, and it exceeded all expectations. The flavors were vibrant and perfectly combined, creating a satisfying and memorable dish. Every bite was a testament to the cafe's commitment to quality ingredients and skilled culinary craftsmanship. The attention to detail in both the food and the cafe's atmosphere made for a truly enjoyable visit. The friendly staff and the serene surroundings of the Huntington Library enhanced the overall experience. In conclusion, 1919 Cafe is a hidden gem that deserves recognition. Its diverse food stations, exceptional lemonade, and delicious offerings like the Mexican avocado salad make it a culinary haven worth revisiting. If you're seeking a place that caters to various tastes, I wholeheartedly recommend giving 1919 Cafe a try. Your taste buds will thank you!
The food is great but the line is a little bit long.
1919 Cafe is a really nice place to have lunch when spending a day at Huntington. Emphasis on spending. Don't get me wrong, everything is scratch made with high quality ingredients in generous portions, so it's less painful than stadium or theme park prices. It's setup food hall style (that's fancy talk for cafeteria). There are four stations serving made to order entrees. The first is sandwich and salad. The second is Mexican. The third is pizza, and the fourth is burgers. Fair warning, the stations close at 4pm even though the cafe is open until 5pm. Speaking of the fancy vibe, there is also a full bar. Finally, there is a grab and go section with cold sandwiches, snacks and drinks. My wife and I were recently gifted an annual membership to Huntington and have begun to visit as often as we can. Based on our first couple of experiences at 1919 Cafe I can confidently say that we will be treating ourselves to lunch there more often. I recommend the tostada bowl. We had the carnitas which is the most popular option. Beautiful presentation and really delicious. Fun Facts: -You don't have to buy a ticket to Huntington to go to 1919 Cafe. Access to the first courtyard all the way to the Cafe is open to the public. -The Cafe is named for the year The Huntington was founded. -They serve vegan, vegetarian, gluten free and kid friendly options. So, if you find yourself at The Huntington and want a kinda fancy casual lunch with a beautiful view I recommend that you give this place a try.
Great variety. Very large portions. Gets pretty busy during the lunch hours, so you might need to wait in line. Not the best coffee, but their selection of iced teas is good. Has indoor and outdoor sitting.
Very cool format for a restaurant. Lots of good options and very good food.
A little steep on price but the quality was good and I was happy with the portion. I had the taco bowl with chicken and spicy salsa (it wasn’t that spicy). They have a variety of food options and even grab n go food (salads, sandwiches). They have bottled beverages including alcohol.
Tip. Purchase the half salad and soup or sandwich. The salad is so large you can then split and share. Great deal and good food.
Cafeteria style dining. Order your food. Pay for it at the cashiers and have a seat indoors or outdoors. Bathroom had a baby changing station inside the stall for maximum privacy. Two options for drying your hands, pull down paper towel or air dryer. A ratio of 3:1, three urinals to one stall. Very good use of space to accommodate four users at a time.

Ive been here 3 times. I appreciate the quality. I think the food is very good, and most of the patrons are civil and are respectful from what I have observed. The staff have always been accommodating. I know I can go here and enjoy time with family or friends. We tend to go for lunch and can unwind after walking about the gardens and then perhaps after eating have an espresso or aperitif. Followed by perusal through the gift shop. I enjoy being among people of culture and appreciate Art, Music, and Nature.
Some gluten free options, I had the 3 tacos, which were great. Gluten free potato chips also available. You don't have to pay for Park admission to go to the diner according to our guide.
We shared a salad, Three Amigos tacos, and lemongrass chicken banh mi. The food was tasty, and the iced tea was good too.

Came during the week, no waiting upon arrival. Order the chicken tacos and it was just ok, nothing great. My daughter had the ham & cheese sandwich with fries and that was also just ok. I think the already made Sushi in the plastic containers towards the register counters would’ve been the best option or choice. This place is like a Cafeteria, you grab a serving tray and grab your items and pay at the end, and you also can seat wherever you like. After your meal you must return your serving tray with dishes to the specified location. This place is a grab and go. Seating outside was actually nice.
THE ONLY REASON why I gave this place a 3 star is because how incredibly expensive the food is. I got a taco bowl and for 2 people came out to around $40. I mean the food was pretty good but it was not worth the money tbh. I would say bring your own snacks in.
Food options are plentiful but flavor is sparse. It is cafeteria style, but there is a grill. If you come during the rush expect a wait. There are plenty of places to sit. The prices are high but that's how it is if you are going to eat on a premises far from other close options.

What a disappointment to eat at this cafe, after such a wonderful experience at the botanical gardens. My friend and I both ordered hamburgers with side of fríes and vegetables. There were many other customers who ordered before us and it took a long time. One short order cook and with a major attitude to prepare the orders. To place an order is confusing while there were two women standing who could have assisted. One more issue, super expensive. Huntington Garden get your act together there are so many wonderful restaurants in the area!!!
