The mint green building gives you a vibrant vibe. My wife and I have been wanting to eat here for at least 10 years! So we were doing errands around the area and decided to pop in from brunch. First impression inside is relaxing and has a cool tropical aesthetic. There are these cool doors that look directly brought over from Old San Juan. The menu is huuuuuge with lots of tasty sounding dishes. I decided on the PR Hash which is picadillo and rice covered with melted cheese then two fried eggs on top. I got a side of sweet plantain. I had coconut water to wash it all down. My wife got the tostones ,cheese, black beans, avocado and a fried on top. She loved that! She got this coconut coffee beverage as well. Service was fine. The atmosphere was not rushed but relaxed. I will come here again for sure.
Every time I pass by San Rafael I have to stop here. I usually order from their to-go side of the shop since they’re super busy and the line to get seated is soooo long. It moves quickly but I usually just grab food to go. Biztec sandwich is what I eat here every single time. I tried it recently with the tostones which is basically plantains as a bun, was good. Their hot sauce is yummy. The house made orange mango iced tea drink also great!!
First time trying this popular spot and it was delicious! Did not disappoint. Kind and courteous service by staff. The tacos were sooo packed with flavour and protein, sour cream, spicy guacamole, queso fresco, and red sauce!
If you are craving Caribbean food this is the place to go if you are in the Bay Area. The food feels very authentic and delicious. I had the chuletas with rice and beans and I felt like I was eating at home. The tostones are also great and their lemonades and juices are very refreshing. I highly recommend trying out the tradicional Puerto Rican dishes in the menu like the mofongo and chuletas! The pineapple pudding we had for dessert was also great.
Excellent Puerto Rican food. We were welcomed by Alex who spent time to explain the menu to us. She recommended, "Bistec Encebollado" with plantain and black beans, which is what I ordered. It was amazingly tasty. Alex also recommended "Pollo al Horno" my daughter ordered it and that also was very tasty. Since it was our first time at Sol Food (and we live a very long distance from San Rafael,) Alex brought us Coconut flan with mango sauce. That too was very delicious. Sol food is definitely a must stop! Enjoy authentic Puerto Rican food and experience the culture.
Never had been here before. Food was alright, service was fast . Most of it was the staff is very friendly and welcoming. There’s definitely a different positive vibe here.
Delicious Caribbean flavor. I had a combo dish of beef. Generous amount, good salad, very tasty rice and loved plantains in two different flavors.
My favorite spot to grab food when in San Rafael. My go to is the Coconut Milk French Toast (Pan Frances) and Ponche. On my last visit we had the Mariquitas as well - they were divine and go beautifully with the special mayonnaise. For future patrons, the spot does get crowded during the lunch hour. Best time to go is closer to opening to ensure you have a more relaxed time, but the lunch hour is definitely livelier and energetic. Customers are required to order before sitting down, so I highly recommend taking a look at the menu well in advance to have a sense of what you’ll be ordering. The menu is VERY LONG so it’s easy to get overwhelmed. Staff are kind and helpful. Excited to visit again next time I’m in the Marin area or headed to Point Reyes.
The pizza was soo good and they let us do half/half! Nice crust! The red snapper fillet was also excellent with mango salsa! I still dream and crave the brownie as it was exceptional! We choose the peanut butter one. The service was 5/5! Loved the homie atmosphere that the lady and her staff create!
It's a little different, you pay first at the counter then you find a place to sit. It's a very good atmosphere with Latin music in the background. It a must, if you're looking for Caribbean cuisine. And of course the Puerto Rican flag is flying all over. Love this place
One of my favorite places to grab lunch when I’m in Marin. Honestly the star of the show here is the rice and beans. Whatever protein you decide to get is just a vehicle for those flavorful, expertly cooked sides. Douse it all with their piqué sauce and enjoy.
This is their best location, we’ve eaten here and ordered pickup for years now. We only come for their pescado frito on fridays, its hands down one of the best fried fish in the bay area. It used to come with avocado on the side but not longer thats the only negative.
I ordered the large chicken salad. As always, the greens were fresh. The tomatoes and avocado were perfectly ripe and the pickled onions were crunchy and filled with flavor. The chicken was fork tender and seasoned to perfection. The service and the atmosphere was amazing as always and it took no longer than 7 minutes for us to get our food. I highly recommend trying soul food as it's one of my favorite establishments and Marin
🇵🇷 Sol Food San Rafael is a celebrated, vibrant destination known for its authentic Puerto Rican cuisine. This local favorite, easily spotted by its distinctive, brightly colored building, serves up popular dishes like Pollo al Horno and various plantain preparations. While it offers a lively atmosphere and excellent food, be aware that parking is often difficult; the location has limited curbside parking and is known for drawing crowds, meaning long lines are common.
My wife and I don’t live I the area, but everyone we pass by, always stop at Sol Food. Fun, fast, friendly consistent service and always good food. This evening my wife and I enjoyed the Camarones Criollos, which is saucy Creole prawns, served with rice, organic salad, avocado, and plantain. (My wife had the plantain and I had the potato fries and we shared each) Can’t wait to visit again soon!
A must when you’re in the North Bay! We used to come here a lot in high school for Puerto Rican and Cuban sandwiches. Located in downtown San Rafael parking can be a bit hard. I heard Bad Bunny even visited Sol Food around 2022. They’re most known for their chicken rice plate, Pollo al Horno and their Bistek Cuban sandwich. I also love their spicy sauce. While I was in the area I had to order take out for my lunch the next day so I opted for the chicken plate because the sandwich wouldn’t be as good and soggy the next day. They have a whole takeout side store next tot he restaurant that makes ordering easy. I got 2 pieces of chicken that were so juicy and the rice was so good. I got 2 types of fried plantains, one regular and one garlic and pink baked beans. I really enjoyed my meal even having it for lunch the next day. Huge portions and also came with a side salad. The servers were very friendly and hard working and def a vibe of the restaurant! You can’t miss their green outside!
Simple and fresh food with large portion sizes. Service was quick, and servers quickly fixed error from one uninformed cashier who insisted to us that picadillo (ground beef) was vegetarian. Would definitely return to the restaurant again, they have a great selection of non alcoholic beverages as well.
Sol food is a local favourite in San Rafael, and you can tell by the queue to get in. The eatery lives upto it's reputation. It's serves fantastic potirican food, i had the half chicken, beans, and rice. Yum 😋 FYI, service is first come first served, so expect a small weight. If you are in San Rafael, then this is a must.
I went here because I saw on Instagram someone was saying it's where Bad Bunny goes whenever he is in the Bay Area. I live in San Mateo so it was quite the drive, but soooo worth it! Best Puerto Rican food I've ever had! I ordered the paraiso, the tripleta, and the San Juan. All three were excellent. My friend got the cubano and said it was excellent as well. The fresh squeezed orange juice was good too. I also tried the coconut pineapple smoothie and I love it! Out of the desserts, we tried the coconut flan and the pineapple bread pudding. My friend and I both agreed the coconut flan was the best flan we had ever tried! The bread pudding was fine. Very dense. The atmosphere is fantastic as well, and all the staff were extremely friendly! Overall, I loved the restaurant and will be sure to come back again whenever I am in the north bay! Please come to the peninsula 🫶🏼
This place is amazing! The sandwiches, especially the bistec and cubano, are the most famous items, but the main dishes also shine in this restaurant. The portions are generous, and the drinks are very tropical and fun. They don't serve alcohol, but it's not needed because the food itself is the main highlight here. I loved the gluten-free option for the sandwich; it was a clever twist, rather than using bread, they serve the sandwich between two tostones. I would rate it a 10/10!
This was an awesome experience. The atmosphere was friendly and organic. I ordered the Sol Bowl w/chicken. You could tell these are quality ingredients and FRESH which is what you want. Tasted delicious and filled me up. I also got a pineapple smoothie which was great and tasted fresh as well. I also tried the tostones with cheese and avocado 😋 highly recommend! Will definitely be coming back! 🔥
Recently visited Sol Food for the first time with some friends who have already eaten here. I was highly impressed! Food was great! Tasty and made with quality! The servers were very friendly and helpful. It was busy on a Saturday afternoon as it should have been but it was a comfortable atmosphere. I went with something pretty straight forward on the menu which was an omelette with a side salad. I had a yummy mango smoothie to drink. But I look forward to coming back here again and maybe taking my family along with me. Can't wait to try out the rest of the menu! Oh and the fried bananas were quite a treat as well! Highly recommend this place!

Best sando in Marin is the veggie deluxe sandwich. I ask for extra cheese, which is very necessary and always eat it with the pique sauce. Messy but worth it

One of my favorite restaurants in the Bay Area. The aji sauce they have is to die for. Highly recommend!
Overall good, but my complaint would have to be the flavor is missing and the Mofongo wasn’t the same as the one I ate in Puerto Rico. It was odd to have a half an avocado with it. Pique was good!
The food was delicious. Although there was a line outside, we didn't have to wait too long, but it was well worth it. It was a nice day and the service was great.

No tomato sauce, no ham, no pumpkin or potatoes, no sofrito and no flavor! Like if they opened the can and put it straight on my plate, gross! Definetely not Puerto Rican style.
I drove pretty far to try this restaurant. I’m so disappointed. They gave me the wrong order 😫 I know it’s my fault for not double checking but how do you confuse 3 ribs with chicken? Positives: the food is prepared pretty quickly Negatives: the ordering process and the undercooked meat
