Delicious Happy Hour Brat & Sauerkraut. Great German beer selection 😋
Fantastic food and lovely service. The apple strudel was outstanding! I’ll be back!
When I was in the hospital and recovering friends would bring food from here. It's so good. I finally had the chance to join them and go to the restaurant. There were four of us and we each ordered something different and shared with each other. Every dish was perfect! We had Schnitzel, Liverwurst sandwich, salad with fennel and strawberries and another sandwich that I can't remember. We shared a slice of cheesecake too. The portions are large, we all took something home. The beer is great! We were able to have a taste of the 3 beers on tap. It was hard to choose. They were all so good. We ended up with the blond and the dark. The atmosphere is perfect. Their outside area is very comfortable and attractive. The inside makes you feel like you've been transported to a pub in Europe. It's beautiful. The service is outstanding. Prices are reasonable. Parking right out front. I cannot wait to go again.
What a wonderful surprise our lunch visit to the Dutch Garden Restaurant was. It was an excellent authentic German feast with a fine selection of beers and welcoming service staff offering a warm and friendly atmosphere. I shall return soon!
The style of food they make is mostly German and is really good. They make a killer baked pretzel, too. And their beer selection is excellent. All go great together while eating outside with friends in their beer garden or inside the cozy restaurant section. Highly recommend!
Really some of the best German fair I’ve had. Better than Solvang, better than places I’ve been to in Germany. Got the pretzel, the schnitzel and the Bratwurst. The beer selection is very good and the staff very friendly and attentive . Atmosphere is very relaxing with plenty of seating indoors outdoors and bar seating
Great Dutch food. Must go! Loved the food, beer and service
So great! The servers were super nice and friendly. They had great recommendations. The food was superb, homemade sausage was really awesome and delicious. Prices were reasonable as well. Come here for a nice lunch
I've recently discovered I'm a salad snob. This one sealed the deal. It was a farmer's market on my plate and I will be back for more! The schnitzel was perfectly crispy and tender, the beer list extensive and well paired. Being tucked into the garden off the street felt like I'd opened a portal into a European dream. Our server Luis was a deep well of knowledge on the menu, chefs, restaurant history and other hidden gems around town. Now I know where to have my next happy hour!
Everything about this place makes me want to go back.. especially the pretzels and the cheese butter. Very amazing stuff. I got the Max Strommer which is an open faced ham sammich with an egg on top of sourdough and Swiss variety. And of course a beer. Definitely going again, and understand why locals want this to themselves.
The Dutch Garden is BACK! Pretty much the same menu, nice selection of Belgian / German beers, (prices increased, as expected) but they didn't mess with a good thing. Slightly updated dining room, patio / garden improved & still with the charming original little seats at the lunch counter. Will update with pics and more thoughts on food next time. Oh yeah, thought we'd arrive at 11:45 on a Thursday to "beat the rush" but that didn't work. Parking is an issue, but glad to see the place busy.
WOW!!! Our night was thoroughly enjoyed with great food and lovely service. Highly recommend!
The food is basic German sausages, German potato salad very simple food and usually very good, service has been great but the atmosphere is something of a throwback and really brings together the entire experience to make it a one of a kind and I try to go at least once a month if not twice. Don't forget to grab a couple beers from there extensive list!
Great food, good beer and great 🎵🎵 get in here...
If I could give and extra star for Atmosphere and Service, I would! Dutch Garden is one of the true gems in Santa Barbara and I am so happy to see it doing well. If only they would give me their salad dressing recipe! Looking forward to coming back many times in the future.
Great hidden gem. Good portions. Delicious. Great beer selection. Yummy German chocolate cupcakes & Apple strudel both served with fresh homemade whipped cream. To clarify, this is a German restaurant not a Dutch restaurant.
Was craving a warm, comforting German Pub style meal on this cold November Sunday and Dutch Garden delivered on all of my expectations! Delicious house made bratwurst sausage with German potato salad and sauerkraut, hit the spot!! Generous portions, so much so that I brought honey leftovers! My partner had their schnitzel…thin cut pork cuts, battered and fried to buttery perfection! Highly recommend if you’re ever in the area! I know I’ll be back to try the giant pretzel 🥨 with beer cheese!! 🤤
Came here with some friends for Fathers Day. My friend is from Austria and he said the schnitzel and käsekrainer are as authentic as you can get! It was lovely to sit outside. Serviced was good, even on a busy Sunday. Would recommend coming here!
Food is absolutely on point. Have to order the potato dumplings, Weiner schnitzel, and pretzel. Chefs kiss. Mom and pop shop so don’t expect it to come fast, but the staff make up for it with the homestyle customer experience. The view of the mountains from the patio at sunset was enjoyed by all. A special gem
Honestly one of the best restaurants in the central coast. Certainly the best authentic German cuisine anywhere I’ve tried, including a lot of restaurants in Germany! Everything here is honest, intentional, classic, and perfectly executed. And it’s so friendly and casual. Cannot beat The Dutch.
Real German food! Incredibly delicious and dog friendly! The staff are wonderful and welcoming. Everything we had was so good, I could hardly slow down to take a picture. Free easy parking in front fills up so arrive early. Give it a try!
At first we thought there was just counter and outside seating and it was raining! Great vibes from the staff at counter seats. Then we spied the dining room behind the kitchen. Food was delicious and plentiful.
Cozy, home style German food served in the most awesomest old-school dining room I've seen in Santa Barbara. Nothing better than hanging out on the patio, sharing a plate or two and crushing a glass or four off the expansive drink list (Tatomer!). Seems like everyone knows each other.
The overall atmosphere and food were exceptional!
Easy parking, welcoming Staff, clean, no odor(I’m quite allergic), German/Austrian style Menu, fine cooked and serviced food, good selection of beverages, I’m fun of Radler and they offered it to me. Overall high end food and great quality for money.
The Greatest Schnitzel I have ever had. Authentic German cuisine!! Large beer selection. I definitely dig the hole in the wall decor, definitely my go-to spot. By the way the reason it's called Dutch gardens is because it was open in 1925. They changed the name during World War II because Germans were kind of frowned during the 1940's in America.
The Dutch is such a sweet spot of humanity. Great food, great beers, great staff, excellent vibe and amazing music. The Dutch is always a top choice whenever we go out to eat.
Great OktoberFest food Knocwurst sauerkrut mustard and good beer
Thought is was amazing food and vibe. Stumbled on it by luck as I was driving through on a road trip. Would definitely make it a stop when going through Santa Barbara. Not located in the touristy part of State Street made it even cooler in my books. A unique dining experience.

Amazing food, amazing service. Always feel like a rick star while eating here. Staff are fast, attentive, responsive, observant… overall small but great selection of food and beverage options

Tonight was our first time at Dutch Garden. We had tasted their food at a community event and figured we ought to go in for the whole shabang. From the cute hofbrau-esque, alpine inspired interior to the homey, European style tables, and crudite, it was a fabulous treat that transported us. Great beer (in a very cute glass) wonderful homemade bratwurst and a GIANT pretzel. More than any of the food, the staff was so wonderful and attentive. They even gave us a treat to take home. We will definitely be back. I can’t say enough good things about the whole experience!
I love Dutch Garden Restaurant. It reminds me when I was in Germany, the food is great! I have been coming here when the old restaurant was here and was really happy when the new ownership re-did it. You should go
Ok, if you're wanting authentic German food, this is the place..not only do you get the great food but the atmosphere is so comfortable and friendly. They have a huge list of beers to choose from, you can even sit at the bar and watch the cooks do their thing. The owner is usually there right along side his crew which is, honestly, so refreshing to see. All of the servers and cooks- the entire staff actually, are so kind and genuine. Seriously, this is the place to go to lighten your spirit and just enjoy being present with some bomb.com food! Haha
Imagine being transported to a bier garten in Austria... The best one in Austria. That is the Dutch garden. Not just authentic... But the best I have had even traveling in Austria. Don't miss this special place and the great folks that work there.

Enjoyed a tasty lunch on a delightful patio plus solid service. We enjoyed our visit to the Dutch Garden. They specialize in German cuisine. We had a couple beers and the bratwurst. It was a flavorful and hearty meal. We sat outside on the comfortable patio. I bet it is very lively in the summer. The place was busy on an otherwise dreary Wednesday. Our server was busy with several tables but she worked hard and took good care of us. The prices are a little steep, but that's Santa Barbara for you. We will return.
The resurrected Dutch Garden is wonderful! The new owners kept all the good stuff about this treasure, and then improved on it. The menu is modest, but so good! And so very German. Great wurst, beers, and ambiance. They have a great kids menu too! Highly recommended.
German restaurant, good service. Liked the pretzel, schnitzel and the knackwurst.
Fell in love with this place 9 years ago. Sorry to say the spark is fading.

I like the beer assortment and atmosphere. I'm german and wanted to show friends the experience, but a $40 Jägerschnitzel that was good but not at all wow. That's is too much IMO.

Food was not prepared correctly, sandwich should have came with onions, it did not. After request, they brought a tablespoon. Fine. They take my card before showing me a bill, end up over charging me for an additional sandwich. When brought to the attention of the gentleman (not our waiter, just a guy that brought the receipt, he reeked of alcohol) proceeded to reprimand me for "making a big deal" telling me, "if it matters that much to you, I'll pay for the food myself." Instead of fixing the issue in a professional manner, he returned to the table to give me a lecture. I wish I left right then and there. I have heard negative things about the new owners and unfortunately, they are true. We will not be going back, and will remember the place as it was.. Truly a horrific experience. He made sure to tell me that everyone working there was family so I doubt anything will change.
Smallest portion of fish ever served. $32. Didn't even come with anything else. Poor service. Took 40 minutes to receive and not once did anyone check on us.
Horrible food. I'm not surprised at all that the restaurant is empty. Even in Honduras, they have better restrooms.
