Delicious sushi and a great experience overall. Everything tasted fresh and the service was wonderful.
We've been coming here for a long time (years and years). The food is always good but sometimes they get busy and service can be pretty hit or miss. This last time we went was probably the best service we have ever gotten. I wish I had asked the gentleman's name but I believe I heard someone call him Rob. He was really fast and patient. It can be hard going to a restaurant with kids and it was a great experience this time. I don't think he was even a server. Great job Mikados!
The food was quickly prepared and tasted great! They even let us order off the lunch special even though we came in 15 minutes after the time frame.
The food here is amazing. They have very great customer service they also have a great clean environment , they are quick with their service. Would 100% recommend.
My experience was so good I had to write a review I came with my 5 month baby and my sisters not knowing if there was anything he can eat there, but the waiter was so kind as to ask in the back if we can get an orange and they gave me two cut up oranges shaped like roses they were so beautiful and honestly they made my day I would definitely be coming back both our waiter and the kitchen staff were amazing people.
I’ve been craving good sushi for the past couple months and I tried Mikado before and it was eh. I got it yesterday and it was SO GOOD. I ordered 4 rolls and ranked best to good (none of them were bad): Play Boy Roll, Ocean Tiger Roll, Santa Maria Roll, Fried Spicy Philadelphia. I also like their gyoza and miso soup. I liked the combination yakisoba but you just don’t get enough for the price. I did not like the Ocean 11 roll, jalapeño shrimp, monkey ball, sesame chicken, beef terryaki, or the Oh Boy roll.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mikado Sushi, and I must say that my experience was delightful. Located next to the Santa Maria mall downtown , this restaurant offers a welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and a diverse menu of Japanese cuisine. To start off my meal, I ordered three California Tempura Rolls, one TNT Roll, and one Spicy Crunch Roll. The California Tempura Rolls were a delightful twist on the classic California roll, as they were lightly battered and fried to perfection. The crunchy exterior added a satisfying texture to the creamy filling, and the combination was a true delight for my taste buds. The TNT Roll was a standout dish, packed with a burst of flavors. The blend of spicy tuna, avocado, and cucumber provided a perfect balance of heat and freshness. Each bite was a mouthwatering experience that left me craving for more. The Spicy Crunch Roll was another winner on the menu. It had a fantastic kick of spiciness that perfectly complemented the crunchy texture. The combination of spicy mayo and the crispy topping provided a delightful contrast that added depth to the overall flavor. My dad opted for the Yakisoba Noodles, and I must say, they were a fantastic choice. The noodles were cooked to perfection, and the stir-fried vegetables added a burst of color and freshness. The flavors were well-balanced, and the portion size was generous. It was evident that great care had been taken to create a dish that pleased both the eyes and the palate. One aspect that stood out to me was the reasonable prices at Mikado Sushi. The quality of the food far exceeded my expectations given the affordability. It was refreshing to find a restaurant that offered such a high standard of cuisine without breaking the bank. Overall, I would highly recommend Mikado Sushi to anyone looking for a satisfying Japanese dining experience. The delicious and well-prepared food, combined with friendly service, makes it a fantastic choice for both casual meals and special occasions. Whether you're a sushi lover or prefer other Japanese dishes, Mikado Sushi is sure to leave you satisfied. I can't wait to visit again and try more of their delectable offerings.
Joseph is an amazing waiter! He is very friendly and his service is phenomenal! He helped me embarrass my husband with the birthday song for his 50 birthday ! He is very friendly and on top of his game! Loved the food the cooks are amazing! Very busy considering other sushi spots! That lets you know it’s the spot!
Mikado is among the best sushi in SM. They really need to work on the interior though. Grungy and open floorplan style that isn't great.
I am new to the area and this is the first sushi spot I've been to. They have a pretty good "yellow" menu that you can order from that is basically 50% off when you order at least 2 items from (making each order around $10-12). I got the fried salmon, fried Philly, and salmon skin. All were pretty decent for the price except the salmon skin one because they added some lettuce to the plate on top of the sushi that honestly did nothing for the rolls as far as flavor or presentation goes. Just made it messier to eat. The service was great, I was greeted right away when I entered and was sat fairly quickly. I ordered and kept a menu and two additional servers came over to check in on me to see if I had been helped already because of the open menu which I think is a Hallmark of good food service. Continued great service throughout the duration of my visit. Bathroom was pretty clean, nothing remarkable or terrible about it. I'd recommend coming here for midday stop when you are running errands and want a break (as I did) or if you are eating casually with friends, family, a significant other. I don't think this would be a first date kind of place because nothing is really memorable about it, so if you are trying to impress your date, you might find something better elsewhere. TLDR; Food is decent for price, order off the "yellow" menu. Come casually, not for a first date.
Decent Service, Disappointing Food I had high hopes for Mikado, but overall the food didn’t meet expectations. On the plus side, the wait was short, it wasn’t crowded, and the nostalgic ambiance inside gave it a nice touch. Unfortunately, the food itself fell short. The takeout bag was soaked with teriyaki sauce and miso soup before I even reached my car, making it messy and difficult to handle. The tempura shrimp was heavily battered, which overpowered the shrimp itself. The vegetable tempura in the chicken teriyaki combo was similarly dense, and the chicken was a bit tough—flavorful, but not quite tender. There were a couple of bright spots: the sushi that came with the dinner plate was fresh, and the wontons were tasty. However, the crunchy roll was underwhelming—I could barely tell there was tempura shrimp in it, and the wasabi was barely visible, tucked beneath the ginger. Overall, it was edible and parts of it were enjoyable, but not memorable enough for a return visit, especially at this price point. Just an okay experience.
The food was decent. I was not impressed in any way but it was not bad either. Service was better than the food. The whole place needs a good renovation in my opinion, it smells and looks old and run down. Not impressed, but I wouldn’t run away from it either. A totally average place, hence the totally average rating
We're told that we had to wait 5 minutes for a table. The 5 minutes turned into 40 minutes to be seated. We had to wait over an hour to receive our food ask for tea waitress end up giving us a Coke instead of a tea. I love sushi. We got 4 different. They all taste the same. I was disappointed.
First time we came here it was good service, but that was about 5 years ago, now it was horrible and makes me not to never want to back here again. Service was bad, for some reason if you decide to sit at a booth, they will not pay attention to you. Mostly all the waiters were too busy paying attention to the people at the tables rather than at the booths. They took a long time to serve us. Later was the food, we got the teriyaki chicken which was served to us cold! Like it wasn’t even cooked at all. Not a good experience at all at this place. Will never come back here again!
ordered raw fish on rice after working for around 5 or so hours, drove home just to be greeted with NO rice. had to delay my damn dinner by a whole hour cause i had to make a pot of rice. for TWENTY FIVE DOLLARS PER PERSON i expect better than this.
