This is a great steak house that is a bit out of the way but worth getting to. It was an easy walk from our stay at the Channel Road Inn, and the service and food were exceptional.

The patio deck built during pandemic is a beautiful and modern addition. Golden Hour is 4-5:30pm Monday - Friday and has fantastic food options. Take a stroll onto the beach before or after for a perfect date.

Loved super good everything! Update This place is top of the line!! Unfortunately, out birthday dinner spoiled by a persons voice so loud inundating the room. I know more about his life than i care too. And his politics. Ruined the night. He talked the entire time we were there. SAD I wish i could tune out but he was facing me and i didnt want to make a scene and move tables. BUT STILL LOVE THE BULL!!!!

Nice atmosphere. Heaters for cooler nights. Filets were cooked to order, very tender and full of flavor, served with roasted garlic and rosemary sprigs.

The flat iron steak is super tender with great flavor.

This was my Mom's favorite restaurant, we were there almost every Tuesday night. We loved the old staff, and once it changed ownership we grew to love the new staff too. Friendly good service before and now. Went there today for Sunday brunch, which was excellent by the way, to celebrate my Mom's passing... She would have wanted it that way!

The Golden Bull was recently renovated, is super cozy and modern, the service was fantastic and the food was delicious. I had the crab cakes to start and they were flaky and cooked perfectly. My main was the rigatoni and meatball, which was also cooked perfectly and the meatball is better than grandma makes...I had to order an extra meatball, just because I could.

Just a fantastic experience. From the minute we walked in to the minute we walked out, we had the best time and food. I went with a French Onion Soup, New York Cut steak, and a baked potato and it was easily one of the best meals of my life. So much so my wife said "this is your new birthday dinner spot huh?". I gave a definitive yes to that question.

Ribeye was perfection. Dirty martini was so good and smooth, even the house version. This place is the perfect blend of fine dining and a comfortable, casual atmosphere. It's really a melting pot of young, old, shabby, glossy, and not a scene. A great vibe all around.

Golden Bull was icon for years, great steakhouse. After changing hands with another local restaurateur they have incorporated amazing dishes. And steak and fish are delightful. The outdoor patio created for covid is beautiful. Staff was amazing. The Indoor bar is reminiscent of Bob Burns, Pacific Dining Club SM.

Beautiful patio, Server was friendly, the food was fresh and flavorful I had a side of corn and loved that, fresh and crunchy with a bit of spice. My friend had the salmon grilled it can pain and perfectly cooked. She like the chimichurri she offered on the side. Worked like to go back. Plan on valet parking if you go.

Love the ambiance. Close to the beach. Outdoor seating. For was delicious. I ordered the fried halibut tacos with fries. They were so good. The wait staff was super friendly and nice. I'll definitely come back!

My family and I drove across LA to eat at the Old Bull. We found the Golden Bull about a year and half ago while walking the board walk, and we loved it. So we when back last week while in town. I love the feel of an old time supper club. The Christmas decorations where beautiful in the bar area with the fire place burning. We all enjoyed the rim rib. We had a great time and will stop in again when in town.

They are doing best whatever they do! I am not just talking about steaks. From soup to dessert.. all perfect! They have tables both inside and outside of place. Interior design, furnitures and other details makes that place cozy and sophisticated. You may also have great cocktails, quality wines etc. Just talk to "C" at the bar and make your day!

Stoped here late at night for a bottle of wine and an appetizer. The server was very good and kept the waters full and candle lit! The bar area where we sat has a cool vibe and a good crowd.

This is old LA. Food is good. Atmosphere takes you back. This place has a history. A friend of mine used to come here in the 60s when the area was host to a lot of gay bars. Now it caters to a diverse crowd of all persuasions, but mostly those who have been coming here a long time. I visited in 2001 and again in 2015. Not a thing had changed in the intervening years. How many places can claim such consistency?

This place has great food for a reasonable price when you compare it to other restaurants. I had the steak tartare halibut asparagus and the apple crumble for dessert. Each dish was delicious. The service was quite good as well.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED the place! Great staff! Very helpful, respectful, courteous and accommodating! Awesome food! Everything is fresh and delivered in a timely manner as well as presented nicely. The entire premises are super clean, at this time they exercise social distancing and wear face coverings. The outside seating area is very spacious and cozy. I felt there very relaxed and like at home. Especially that it is located "off the beaten path" so to say. Worked for me! I would come back there anytime again! Highly recommended

Absolutely fantastic meal - one of the best steaks I’ve had in the last few years. Mashed potatoes and asparagus were great. Ordered a martini and got the extra cocktail from the shaker in a glass on the side, I don’t think I’ve ever seen that before. Quiet, comfortable vibe. I can see why celebrities still frequent here.

N

Excellent food and amazing service. The place looks really modern and they moved an extra space heater to make us comfortable. The French onion soup was the best of all 4 things we tried. Tomato soup is big and can be shared. The lobster rolls were great too.

From the food, to the service, to the atmosphere, it was an all around fantastic experience. The food was perfectly prepared and arrived in a timely manner and the dessert (Bananas Foster and Bread Pudding) was absolutely incredible. Thank you for the great experience and for being open during these crazy times. We look forward to visiting again!

Fantastic iconic Santa Monica Steak house. Warm and friendly almost as cozy as being at home. Claudia is friendly and stellar at making you feel welcome. The server Alexis was fantastic. Delicious New York steak. If you love the charm of the way things were and can be you must come for a visit.

I've been coming to the Golden Bule for over 30 years and they have never disappointed me. The Prime rib and Tim's service were excellent. The atmosphere remains unique. I look forward to coming back next time I'm in Santa Monica or staying with friends in Topanga Canyon.

Just off the PCH, the Golden bull is a 50’s style chop house with a great selection of appetizers, entrees and of course, steaks. We had the hanger steak with an assortment of sides, and everything was picture perfect. The chef actually knows what “medium rare” means, and the romesco sauce was outstanding. (Yeah, I know romesco is usually a fish sauce, but still.) Service was friendly and attentive but not intrusive. Small wine list, but a well curated selection. Well worth a night out while you’re in LA.

R

Great vibe, friendly servers, and our food came out lightning fast! The prime rib and mashed potatoes were excellent, and my friend enjoyed the broccolini. Can’t wait to eat here again soon! I will say that parking can be a little tricky though

This is mine and my wife's new favorite restaurant in LA. Cool, moody vibe that isn't pretentious. Good portion sizes and incredible food (the chef came in 2017 from a Michelin Star restaurant in NY). Good service. It also has an amazing happy hour menu. Go here, enjoy. It's worth it.

I think we've found our new spot when we're in Santa Monica. Steakhouse fare. Decent food for not ridiculous prices. Great cocktails. The service was by far the best part of our experience. We must have walked down 4 or 5 times when we were down. Look for Sam, he took great care of us a couple of trips

This is an authentic Steakhouse that's been around for a long time. Probably one of the best steakhouses around anywhere. The Atmosphere or Ambiance is alright but nothing to write home about but everything else, JUST DOESN'T GET BETTER! Service was excellent. Quality of meat is excellent. A true Steak connoisseur would love this place.

D
David Krivit

A fine home-like steak house and my black & blue 10oz filet melted in my mouth like it should, really fine cut. All at our table loved the mushrooms, spinach and fries plus shrimp cocktail and beers and wines. Sadly they were out of my lamb chops first choice but that will bring me back I guess-

Phenomenal food. I honestly had low expectations going in and we ended up LOVING every single dish. There’s clearly a chef with a unique vision behind each item. Indoors ambiance is classic and so warm/cozy. Almost feels like you’ve stepped back in time to the 60s or 70s when restaurants were their own entity and not part of some nameless, impersonal franchise.

Best Best hamburger EVER! It's the only hamburger I ever eat with cheese on it! Everyone is so nice and helpful - great atmosphere. Beautiful fish tank. There's not many old style steakhouse restaurants like this!

Came to celebrate my wife's 27th birthday and everything was just great. Inside was nicely decorated. We got seated right next to the fire place. which was great because it was cold and windy outside. The food was delicious and wonderfully plated. Wifey enjoyed her margaritas with her steak frites and I could definitely go for another bowl of the tomato soup with an order of a baked potato. The service was outstanding and just a great experience overall. I highly recommend this restaurant and MAKE A RESERVATION!!! AND MICHAEL KEATON SHOWED UP LAST MINUTE AND WAS SEATED RIGHT NEXT TO US. WAS TRYING SO HARD NOT TO GEEK! (No I was not going to bother the man for a picture he was having dinner)

This is a review for their Happy Hour or "Golden Hour" which is Monday-Friday, 4:00pm - 5:30pm and for a few items from their regular menu. You have the option to sit indoors our outdoors. We chose indoors, which is lovely and cozy with white tablecloths, flowers at each table, and fireplace. The Caesar Salad for $5 was so good, I almost wanted to order another one! I loved the Loaded Potato Skins ( $5) !!! The Calamari was a solid Good ( $10) . My friend ordered a beef Taco( $4) and it was disappointing. He won't order it again. My husband ordered from the regular menu and he loved his Flat Iron Steak with a side of asparagus . We all shared the Smores Casserole ( $14) dessert! I highly recommend sharing this! It comes with warmed up graham crackers! Parking is a bit difficult, but we found parking on the side streets.

Delicious food, efficient and prompt wait staff, lots of heaters outdoors, reasonably quick food. Prices are up there but the food was great. One server just plonked the food down and parking was challenging and a little bit of a walk .. but I didn't feel like paying 15 bucks to have them park it.

New owners. New review. The new owners have created a great space keeping the vibe. The happy hour is an excellent bargain and the food is delicious. I almost wanted to not like it because I had been frequenting the restaurant for the past 20 years was quite attached. They have done a very good job and I will be returning. Often.👌🍸🍴. I had the flat iron steak. The fries are delicious. And the sundae for dessert was really really good. Our server was a sweet, smart., energetic young woman who speaks multiple languages. The bus boy had a great vibe and was very attentive. So great food great service what more could you want?

This place is a hidden gem in the open. Driven by, thousands of times a week, this smaller steak serving bar has gained my respect for starting into a challenging market of brunch. Last night we went to the Golden Bull for my daughters 18th birthday. It was my first time. So much fun. The food was excellent! Had the bacon cheeseburger and steak Frites for my fiancé . It's a quaint space with cozy atmosphere and warm ambiance. The staff were all friendly. My bartender was great, and the old fashioned I ordered was tasty and generously poured. The place has a long history, and considering that it's only a block from PCH in Santa Monica / Palisades, it's not abhorrently expensive. It's not cheap, but for the quality at this price and location, it's a bargain. I ordered the bone-in ribeye, corn, mushrooms, and mashed potatoes. I don't normally get too excited about sides, but damn! They were delicious. This place is a gem. There's valet parking(very tightly spaced lot) and some street parking in the area as well.

Food, ambience and service was exquisite. We had the prime rib, creamy mashed potatoes, sautéed corn, grilled broccolini, and garlic herb fries. Everything was cooked to perfection. The real stand out was the steak. Everyone was trying to lick the bits off the bone, it was that delicious. The dirty martinis with blue cheese olives were to die for.

The Golden Bull is a total Santa Monica gem, stepping inside feels like a time warp in the best way. I first visited about 15 years ago, and on a recent return it was wonderful to find the atmosphere still just as classic and unchanged. It is clearly mainly frequented by a local clientele, which only adds to the authentic neighborhood feel. The Cosmopolitan cocktails are phenomenal, and the $35 corkage on wine was great value for our evening. This enabled me to enjoy my PlumpJack Merlot with their delicious filet mignon, which was cooked perfectly and full of flavour. We also loved the starters, crispy salads with just the right amount of French dressing, and a very fresh shrimp starter. Service and vibe were spot on from start to finish. Really difficult to find any fault, cannot wait to come back.

This place doesn’t try to reinvent the steakhouse, it just shows you how good it feels when a place gets every detail right. You step inside and there’s this warm, old-school glow, leather booths, dim lights, the low murmur of people settling in for a proper meal. The steaks come out with that confident simplicity, fire, seasoning, nothing extra because nothing extra is needed and the sides hit with the same kind of quiet authority. The bar has its own gravity too. Cocktails mixed with real intent and poured by people who understand pace and presence. Over time, the crowd blends into the atmosphere. Locals, regulars, couples, all celebrating something that matters. All wrapped in the same golden hum. By the time you walk back out toward Channel Rd, you get that rare feeling that some places don’t need to shout to be great, they just let the experience do the talking.

this is one of those wonderful neighborhood places that is closed, and then reopened with new owners and a slightly different menu. The good news is that the food is still excellent, and as with all new owners, the prices have increased. The selection is smaller, isn't quite as fun, but given the changing nature of the world it is certainly worth a visit. They have very good early bird specials still, and their staff is quite friendly and helpful

Loved the outdoor patio ambience (due to covid restrictions). Awesome job! Friendly service. Food was pretty good. Not great, and a tad pricey, including the drinks.😕 But I didn't have the steak and I guess it IS predominantly a Steak House.

Pricey place with excellent food. Very cool and trendy. Excellent service. Brunch was very enjoyable sitting in a booth with the cool ocean breeze coming through the windows. The bar in the front is very 50's or 60's retro with stone walls and dark booths. Try the chophouse hash. Yum

First time customer for a midweek dinner. The patio space was impressive assuming it was built for the Covid outdoor dining guidelines. I'd like to see the patio continue to be used even after Covid...it's that nice...to take advantage of the great spring/summer/fall SoCal weather. Service was friendly and welcoming...excellent. The paloma cocktail was not as spirit forward for my preference. The prime rib was done well and sides were well seasoned. Others in my group enjoyed their filet and rib eye steaks and there were no negative critiques. Overall a dependable steakhouse experience outdoors.

Fancy environment, superb service. The food was ok considering the price.

Found the Golden Bull while on a 20 mile bike ride. Seemed legit from the old sign's. Gave it a shot and was pleasantly surprised. Great atmosphere- loud yet private. Our server took great care of us. But most of all, our steaks were cooked exactly how we ordered them. That is becoming increasingly rare as more and more restaurants phone it in (no pun intended). If youre looking for an old hide-out that harks back to the old glory of the Southern California coast and its storeyed Beach culture with a tiny dash of Old Vegas ring-a-ding-ding, then this is your spot.

An institution in Santa Monica Canyon. Good food, reasonable prices, great drinks and service.

Came here for brunch, and I'd say it was good but not great. My first gripe was the service--the place was essentially empty but there were long waits, especially for drinks from the bar. Second gripe would be cooking inconsistency. My wife and I both had the burger--mine was fine, cooked perfectly and tasted pretty good. However her burger was super pink in the middle. The waitress never asked how either of us wanted the burger cooked, so we assumed they'd arrive medium. Mine was medium, hers was rare. I wouldn't have minded it rare, but she does mind the pinkness so she couldn't eat half the burger. Like I said I enjoyed my burger, but you gotta a) ask people how they want their burger cooked, and b) cook them consistently. I also had a caesar salad, which was good. Our friends had the breakfast sandwich, which they said was good, as well as the breakfast burrito which they also enjoyed. The best part was dessert--the ice cream sundae was BOMB.

They did a great job upgrading this place, while keeping the original bar area. It's a Steak House and the chef delivers. Cocktails are on point and the wine selection is pretty good too. The staff and service are great. There is valet parking, but they parking lot gets stuffy when it's full, which is always. And the prices are a bit high for food that's a bit heavy. I love the burgers though. Eat that $19 burger! It's good! Shut up $19 dollars, eat your burger! Would and have returned.

Stopped by for some drinks after a day at the beach and came during their Happy Hour special on a Saturday and was pleasantly surprised. They have a large outdoor seating area which could use a fresh design eye, but what lacked in ambiance made up for in service and food quality. Service was quick and friendly and the food was very tasty and on point with expectations. We had a few margs, burgers and caesar salads, all from the happy hour menu. All were delicious but surprisingly still pricey.

The hostess was quite nice, the servers were nice and efficient, and I had the tacos. Sorry to say that they had 0 flavor. Lots of goodies on top but not tasty in the least. I had 3 fish.

Before covid-19, we had almost five star experience here. Unfortunately this time was just not up to par. Our cocktails were horribly made and the excuse was the bartender was training a new person. The food comes out lukewarm. We know this place can be better ... Maybe it was an off night. We might visit again.

The Golden Bull is a great bar and a decent place to eat. It is now considered a fine dining establishment and as such places go, it's fairly reasonable. But I personally like the old Golden Bull far better. Before the remodel, the new menu and the new owner. It was probably the only place in town where you could get a great top sirloin steak, with salad, vegetables, a baked potato with two drinks plus coffee included for Fourteen Dollars, anywhere, let alone, across the street from the beach in Santa Monica.

I ordered a filet mignon “medium rare.” It came “well done” with no pink showing. The manager apologized and took 25% off the price of the steak. It was my wife’s 75th Birthday. A busboy delivered our desserts without spoons. After a long wait our server arrived to supply spoons and apologize, saying she was supposed to serve the desserts and hadn’t been told.

Steak was $104 and came with nothing. $44 you could throw in some damn french fries and coleslaw give me a break. Glad my boyfriend paid for it I'd have a fit. Dinner was $200 was worth perhaps 130 I would not eat there again. They do have a happy hour maybe that's better but I didn't experience it. Food was not worth the money. Service was good but this place is overpriced.

The ambience is pretty cool, the sevice is okay, and the food is pretty good. There's nothing to hate there. But the prices, lord, the prices. This place is just not worth it. From the $13.20 valet to the $3 charges for various little items, they nickel and dime you for everything. This definifely kills the vibes a good bit, as other upmarket steakhouses in town do not do this. I didn't hate my meal but I can't say I'll be back.

This place is hit or miss and a bit over priced when it's a 50/50 chance on success. Tonight the steak was way over cooked and chewy. It's typically one of two the safe items... but not tonight. My first choice is normally the chicken they have a good record with that dish. Drinks are good and it's walking distance; so not a lot of options on a lazy night. Good luck

They did an amazing job adapting to the pandemic. Today they are rewarded with 3x the amount of space they had before and they are doing record sales. Sadly they can't manage the space effectively. I once waited over and hour for a table because they don't serve burgers in the lounge, the rationale being they don't want to overwhelm the kitchen. After giving up waiting I ordered two burgers to go. .. hmm burgers to eat there in the lounge is too much for the kitchen but order the same burgers to go and voila, the kitchen staff can manage it. Ridiculous. Lat night I wanted to have drink in the lounge and was told they aren't seating people in there, again because they don't want to overwhelm the staff. Let me get this straight, you create all this outdoor seating and now you can't seat people at capacity. Figure it out Bull.. find a way to have first come first serve in the lounge and serve a damn burger. Not asking too much.. the manager here doesn't know what he's doing.

Golden Bull was ok. We sat outside, nice weather, drinks were fine, wait staff was pleasant…nothing extraordinary about the food. I ordered the steak frites, onion soup and a couple of drinks-fine. We also ordered the s’mores casserole…seemed like a pile of melted marshmallows and that’s it with some strange ice-cream. No big deal.

The food is great here - very thoughtful and contemporary. From the basic staples of French Onion Soup to some very fresh salads for brunch this place does it well. The hosts are very adept at handling the eventual crowds. The happy hour is good too. The wait/bar staff - well, what do you expect from millenials? Good customer service? The lack of humor and somewhat robotic serving leaves a lot to be desired. I've been here many times and have always left full but slightly or very annoyed. Yes, it's hard to find good wait and bar staff but in a land of starving actors other places seem to do a pretty good job.

Meat was of good quality but i did not really like the way it was prepared. Only cooked sous vide and not seared in a pan. I missed the crispy outside which would have made the Steak perfect. I also did not really like the sauce, which was very thin and salty.

We enjoyed the service more over the food. The prices are way too much for the food served. I have better steak at Black Angus. The house steak sauce was not the best. If you like to chat and just drink, this is the place for you.

Good local spot. Very tasty fish, steak, salads. Friendly service and nice local bar. Great patio for warm summer nights and days. We had salmon which was quite good, but steaks looked delicious. I felt it was a bit pricey for a very casual spot, but we had a good experience.

Once a year on my birthday I go to this place and order a martini, my only martini of the year. This year from my first sip I knew that someone had watered down the gin. I told the waiter, and he said, “That’s impossible.” Anyone who has ever raised a teenager knows that that is more than possible, it’s probable. A great waiter would have replaced it with another, but he stuck to his guns and I drank it anyway. There was absolutely no buzz, and as a one-martini-a-year girl, this was quite disappointing. The food, which used to be great, is now extremely average. I believe I will find a new birthday place. (PS No one wished me Happy Birthday, though I mentioned it on the reservation.)

The food was just Ok not the best Caesar salad dressing way too much mustard for my liking. However, I have live in Santa Monica for 30 years And was appalled that we were asked to leave after being there for an hour and a half. I have NEVER in my life been ask to vacate a table while we were still drinking. The manager who was prancing around like king Tut was so rude and not apologetic at all, he started arguing with us. After being In the service industry and customer service evaluation myself for 40 years I was shocked at his attitude. What manager argues with his customers? A sure way get them not to return, Be aware that if you are a walk in you are treated as a second class citizen. That’s all I can think as several times he asked if we had made a reservation. SADLY NEVER TO RETURN,

Not the same as it used to be,, its charm and cast if characters are gone. What's left is a stale, frumpy overpriced joint. And to top it off, the prime rib was tough & chewy, and WAY overpriced. The restaurant manager, Tyler, is a real sweetheart though.

We have been going to this place for many years and love it. However, they seem to have a new policy. We had not even finished our after dinner drinks when we were asked to move to the bar. The problem was the bar was packed. This has become their way of doing business. Not the best way to have to leave after a pleasant dinner. There are usually four to five of is and we spend a lot of money each dinner with drinks and all. We are looking for a new place. Anyone have some suggestions???

Nice atmosphere but pretty ridiculous in terms of prices. $28 for a hamburger/ fries $34 for a small piece of salmon(comes w/no sides!!) Appetizer portions are small but are priced close to what you’d expect to pay for an entree at other places. (Baked potato add on is $16, calamari $24, etc) No easy place to park so you’re stuck paying $15 to valet. Patio seating is nice, staff was pleasant but probably better options for the price. (They have a decent happy hour Menu. My experience was outside of happy hour). $480 for a party of 6(with tip) and we didn’t really feel like it was an exceptional food experience. (5 entrees , 2 appetizers, 1 side salad, 2 soft drinks, 3 glasses of wine).

We have walked passed by this restaurant for years but never had the chance to dine-in until now. Golden Bull (est 1949) is a fine dine in restaurant located along West Channel rd in Pacific Palisades. They are known serving up fine fare including steakhouse favorites, fresh seafood, and veggie-centric dishes. We came here on a sunny late afternoon as a large group to grab drinks and food after walking at the nearby beach. We were warmly greeted by a female staff and was seated at their outdoor patio on two separate middle tables. We asked the manager/lead host, if we could concatenate the two tables since we’re a large group. He adamantly said we certainly cannot do that. Furthermore, he informed us that there’s a restricted dine-in time limit. In that moment, our group felt that the mgr had to obviate the need from servicing our group. Thus, we informed them that we no longer interested and departed the restaurant. We had a high expectation from this restaurant from the start but sadly we’re very disappointed. I guess a large group such as ours was not ideal for the Golden Bull. Overall, it was disheartening experience for a first time customer.

Unlucky can't tell anything about the food. Just the valet parking at this place. We wanted to eat there on Sunday this week. We drove into the parking place and saw a sign 'valet parking 9$' cause we didn't wanna give anyone the key of our car, we wanted to park on the free space right in front the door. While turning the car one of the valet parker took a car and drove on this free parking space on the street. We descidet to go to another restaurant. It's not worth for us to support stupid behavior. Sorry.... This for one star

My friends and I dined here last night and had a horribly unpleasant experience from start to finish. When we arrived, the hostess named Sydney, was very rude. We asked to sit inside and had proof of our vaccinations as we are travel nurses, to which she responded, “Wait over there and I’ll check to see if we have anything available.” By wait over there, she meant wait outside… OK. If you don’t want our money, just say that. That should’ve been our sign to dine elsewhere, but we stayed because of the great reviews. Sydney then told us there was a spot for us, but didn’t even check inside. We were seated at a back corner table outside. Luckily, it was heated as it was a chilly LA evening, but we were still cold. Nevertheless, we sat down. Then she said, “There’s a 90 min meal time.” Other parties were seated around the same time and were not told the same information. They were able to enjoy their meals and leave without being harassed. For starters, my friend ordered the pork ribs which were WELL overdone to the point of even chewing it was hard and not tasty at all. My other friend ordered the half of chicken which was bland - virtually no seasoning. If we didn’t have BBQ sauce at the table, it would’ve been inedible. Another friend ordered a salad, which she said was decent. And finally, I ordered the Salmon with creamed spinach and mashed potatoes. The mashed potatoes were good; the creamed spinach had all cream and no seasoning. The salmon was only edible with the chimichurri sauce- which was not authentic at all. I also ordered the Paloma cocktail. The mezcal was cheap. I’m aware of good mezcal as I spent a month traveling through Mexico last year tasting various tequilas and mezcals. It had a horrible after taste and left much to be desired. Thankfully, the waiter removed the drink from the bill. The under seasoned food coupled with the rudeness of the hostess (who was Black, by the way - all of my friends and myself are Black as well) was extremely off putting. The meal was not worth the $270+ at all. Then the waiter kept staring at our table all night as if he was just waiting for us to be done. If you don’t want to cater to Black patrons, or don’t know how to treat us like regular human beings, just say that. We did not expect to receive this type of treatment in LA as we were nothing but courteous and respectful during our entire visit. We will not be back and I will continue writing reviews to warn other POCs (People of Color) to avoid this establishment at all costs.

Perfect example of corporate “efficiency” ruining a neighborhood landmark. Upon arrival, you are told EXACTLY how much time you have at the table, then you have to leave (maximize $/sq.ft). The waiters spend less than a minute taking orders, next time they come to your table it’s the bill (maximize man hrs/number of customers). No explanation of menu items, no checking to see if all ok (very wasteful of 30-45 sec). Staff running at top speed (efficiency, again), no eye contact, you have to yell to get attention. Everything performed with cold, mechanical efficiency. I’m in the business and making the customer feel welcome USED to be job one. Now the bean counters rule …

Stopped in here for a quick drink prior to a dinner reservation down the street. The bartender said he wouldn’t serve me immediately after looking at my license because I have a Connecticut ID that was “clearly fake”… as a 25 year old with a real CT drivers license, I tried to explain that I could show my passport as well as I was traveling for work but he was incredibly rude, dismissive and wouldn’t let me explain the situation. My friend grabbed a drink and we sat, me with water, and he pointed at me telling the other staff to watch me. Frankly, I didn’t want a drink after this interaction otherwise I would’ve escalated the situation or contacted the police to validate my identification. A gentleman sitting at the bar even commented on the rash behavior of the bartender. His overall attitude and demeanor was awful and I have never experienced anything like it. Would not recommend this establishment if you are from out of town. I can not speak to the food or the other employees at this restaurant.

Extremely unpleasant welcome by the manager because I was bringing a fine bottle of wine that had been decanted before. Apparently you cannot bring your own bottle if it was previously open (it was closed when I brought it). Never heard of such a thing. It might be “the law” but there are nice ways and obnoxious ways to enforce the law. The food, the hostesses and wait staff were nice and professional but could not make up for the cold shower going in. I will spend my money in a more hospitable place next time.

Despite the glowing reviews, our experience at The Golden Bull wasn’t as great as expected. We needed to reorder a few times because our server came back to tell us they were out of the steaks we ordered. My daughter and I ordered the prime rib, and moments later our server came back to tell us that they only had one prime rib and it was an end piece. We opted to order a NY steak each, and again the server came back to tell us that they were out of that steak as well, so we both ordered a filet. Our reservation wasn't late, so there's really no reason a steakhouse should be out of standard steak items by 7:30. The server came back and asked if we wanted to add the Yorkshire pudding that would have come with prime rib (and they were out of) and while this sounded like it would be comped, it was not and it appeared on our bill. Our steaks were not cooked to order. My son ordered a medium rare steak - requested more on the rare side - but it came out medium. My filet was ordered medium rare but was very rare. The Yorkshire pudding was cold, and the mashed potatoes were a very odd processed texture. My wife enjoyed her steak frites. Dinner was to celebrate our son’s birthday, and we added that detail when reserving, however there was no mention of his birthday or any dessert provided as many restaurants will do. In the end, no real reason to go back or recommend it to others. Rather, I'd recommend that others avoid Golden Bull and go with another steakhouse.

The Golden Bull is *NOT* open! (As of Feb 8) We made a reservation through Resy for Feb 8, received a confirmation text the day prior, and another reminder text an hour before our reservation, but when we got there they were closed due to the fires! Hope to go when they reopen, but in the meantime it would be helpful if they updated their website, phone recording or business listing on Google so people know they’re not open.

Never experienced such DISRESPECT as I have here. The "General Manager" Richard Wallace spoke so rudely, demanding a tip for the waitress who is Ali S. Ali S. then approached me and my date, repeating the same RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL attitude and comments just as her manager did, over a tip that we did not want to add onto our bill, but rather give it to the waitress cash. But their UNPROFESSIONAL IGNORANCE left them with no tip. This is not the way to treat customers.
