Wowww what an amazing sushi!!! Tuna on crispy rice was incredible! I’m very happy everything was super fresh and delicious

Noma Sushi delivers fresh, flavorful sushi with a great variety from classic nigiri to inventive rolls that really pop. The fish tasted clean and vibrant, portions are generous, and the atmosphere is cozy and inviting without pretense, perfect for a casual dinner or a sushi date. Service was friendly and the overall experience hit all the right notes. Also the staff is so friendly; I get why they've been open for 40 years.

This is truly the top-tier Japanese restaurant in Santa Monica! We came on a weekday evening and still had to wait in line for 40 minutes, but it was absolutely fantastic. The sashimi platter was incredibly fresh, the thick-cut tuna was bursting with flavor, the tempura had a crispy exterior but wasn't greasy, and the dipping sauce was amazing. The price-performance ratio is very high for Santa Monica, the portions were generous, and two people were stuffed. Local recommendations are definitely reliable, and I'll definitely come back next time I'm in Santa Monica.

There’s a sushi restaurant in Santa Monica that’s been open for 40 years. A lot of people first came here in their twenties, and now that they’re married with kids, they still bring their children back to eat here 🥹 They relocated across the street due to area redevelopment, but the moment you step inside, you’ll feel that classic, traditional Japanese atmosphere is still there. The wooden interior, the sushi bar, and the large Japanese ceramic jars at the entrance really make it feel like you’re traveling in Japan 🇯🇵✨ They’re especially known for their Omakase. We ordered the $64.95 set, and the freshness of the sushi was on point. The pacing was just right, and you can really taste the care put into each piece 🍣 Uni lovers must try the Uni Toast and Uni Shooter — creamy, rich, and absolutely indulgent 🤍 Their bento is also excellent. The tempura in the tendon-style bento is super crispy, and the + $5 black cod is incredibly tender — a comforting, classic hot meal. One more big plus — parking is easy! Free parking in Santa Monica is truly rare 😭 If you’re looking for a place that serves authentic Japanese sushi, with history, character, and heart, this is definitely one worth saving ✨

After 40+ years of tradition, Noma Sushi has reopened in a larger, more beautiful space just across from its original location The uni scrambled toast is so unique. The crispy rice with creamy spicy tuna was another favorite. What we ordered: • Crispy rice with creamy spicy tuna • Uni scrambled toast • Sushi & sashimi deluxe • Baked black cod • Pink Lady roll • Grilled mochi with green tea ice cream

We ordered the Omakase Set Sushi, Maguro Tokusen, and Uni Toast — everything was fresh and well-balanced. The omakase set was a great way to try a variety of pieces, the Maguro Tokusen stood out, and the Uni Toast was rich but not heavy. The space is large with beautiful interior design and a great atmosphere. Would come back.

I had such a great experience at Noma Sushi. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious, but the omakase and the bento were definitely the standouts. The traditional Japanese atmosphere and décor make the place feel warm and authentic, which really adds to the overall experience. The staff was incredibly kind and welcoming from start to finish. I’ll definitely be coming back.

I had a wonderful experience dining here — from the moment you arrive, you can tell this place is something special. The exterior and entrance are beautifully designed, with thoughtful decorative elements that immediately set the tone. Walking inside, the space feels very spacious and filled with a strong, authentic Japanese atmosphere. What makes it even more impressive is that much of the signage and décor were carefully brought over from the original location, giving the restaurant a truly immersive and intentional feel. The food absolutely lives up to the setting. Their Omakase course and Chirashi Bowl are clear standouts — beautifully presented, great value, and highlighting the freshness and quality of the ingredients. The Bento Box is also extremely popular and easy to love. It’s generous, well-balanced, and perfect if you want to try a little bit of everything. Overall, this spot delivers on ambiance, authenticity, and food quality. If you’re looking for an elevated Japanese dining experience in Santa Monica, this place is definitely worth a visit.

New location and the decoration looks so good and it’s all Japanese style. Love the omakase set so much and the fish was so fresh. Black truffle salmon is a must order dishes. The uni toast was also really good we love the uni.

A hidden gem Japanese restaurant in Los Angeles since 1982. I recently went to Santa Monica and chose Noma Sushi for dinner. This place has been a local favorite for authentic Japanese cuisine for over 40 years, ever since it opened in 1982. It’s usually very busy during dinner hours, but I heard they recently moved to a new location, so we made a reservation in advance. The new space is much larger, and the interior still keeps that nostalgic, retro Showa-era atmosphere, which I really loved. Omakase Sushi The omakase is an excellent value. For $65, it includes appetizers, miso mushroom soup, a 10-piece sushi set, a hand roll, and tamagoyaki. The appetizers were light and refreshing, and the fish was visibly fresh with a rich, tender texture. You can choose the fish for the hand roll; I chose yellowtail, which had a nice chew and a subtly sweet finish. The tamagoyaki was lightly sweet with a hint of sake and very enjoyable. Uni Toast Their signature uni toast is around $18 and is an absolute must-order. It features creamy scrambled eggs and fresh, sweet uni on crispy toast. I would order this every time I come back. Custom Bento Box For a little over $20, you can choose two to three types of meat or vegetables. I selected the black cod, which costs an extra $5 and was totally worth it. The cod melted in my mouth and had a perfectly crispy skin. The stir-fried shrimp had great wok flavor, and the sashimi was also very fresh. This portion is more than enough if you’re dining solo. Kanpachi Carpaccio Thinly sliced kanpachi topped with roe and lightly dressed with yuzu, giving it a refreshing and clean flavor. Honestly, all of their sashimi is excellent because the fish quality is consistently fresh.

Noma has been in business for over 40 years. The restaurant is big and spacious with Japanese elements and decorations. The Noma Sashimi came with 15 pieces of fresh fish. The presentation was impressive. It comes with daily premium soup and hand roll. The omakase set sushi was also so fresh. The uni toast was yummy. The yellowtail belly was so fatty and buttery. There is a sushi bar where you can watch the sushi chefs in action. The service was friendly. They also offer complimentary tempura ice cream for birthdays. This was such a nice treat and dining experience.

12/26/2025 - Noma is a legacy restaurant with over 40 years of history. Recently, it was relocated to a new location just across the original location while preserving authentic sushi traditions in a larger and more elegant space.

Absolutely the best Sushi in Santa Monica and the West side. The new location is really beautiful. Spacious and a cool Japanese vibe and very comfortable. The staff is so friendly and helpful from the moment you walk in they try very hard to please each guest and our server helped guide us through the menu. The sake selection is great and some of our favorite dishes included the rock shrimp and miso cod. The crispy rice tuna was incredible salmon skin salad unusually delicious. Even the friend tempura ice cream at the end. The prices also reasonable for a restaurant of this high quality located in Santa Monica. We can't wait to return!

The chefs clearly care about quality and tradition, and the service is friendly and attentive without feeling rushed. We all have Betonto boxes, is basically a combo, I had teriyaki chicken and salmon teriyaki, and ice cream for dessert I forgot the name of it, clean, new remodel, cozy atmosphere perfect for a casual dinner or a special night out. Highly recommend if you love authentic Japanese sushi

I’ve been to Noma Sushi several times and it was always an amazing experience. My dear Japanese friend introduced me to it and we came here always celebrating our Birthdays and any time we had a chance to get together. Then when I moved out LA, every time I visited we always chose to meet at Noma’s! This year I introduced my son to Noma, he also loves Sushi and now it became his favorite as well. He immediately loved the authentic atmosphere and the fresh Sushi and wide variety dishes and especially the specialty rolls too. Then tonight I just found out that he chose Noma to celebrate his and his girlfriend’s dating Anniversary and I was so happy to hear it!! Thank you wonderful chefs and staff for such an amazing experience every time! ! I’m sure they will love being there tonight! 🎉💕Thank you for your wonderful service! Happy Holidays and may the new Year being you lots of happiness, best of health and great business too. Hope to see you soon next time I’m in Santa Monica. 🎄💖

Noma sushi in Santa Monica, is s 40 year old traditional restaurant, with a brand new location. Started with the omokase set which includes 11 pcs of their best sushi, a spicy tuna hand roll and a premium mushroom with miso soup. Quick sip of green iced tea before trying their Noma combo 3 item lunch combos. The first had chicken cutlet, bbq short rib, and California roll. Second had steak teriyaki, 3 pc sushi, and sashimi. I ordered the very tasty bulgogi, crispy sesame chicken with dipping sauce, flaky & moist black cod. Great food, ambiance, and plenty of parking in the back.

I'm so happy that my favorite restaurant **Noma** has moved to a new location! I went with my friends for lunch and we had delicious bento boxes. There is now a large parking area behind the restaurant, which makes it much more convenient to visit. The food is still just as tasty as before, and all the fish was very fresh. The interior has been remodeled and looks much more stylish and vibrant now, which I really liked!

This place is AWESOME! The food is great quality, the service is excellent. The Fatty Tuna, the Young seabream, Halibut, Albacore, the mackerel and finally their bubble wrapped green tea ice cream is incredible!! This is the 3rd time we're here and every time, it's an amazing experience. This place doesn't disappoint. The chef himself, the servers and everyone involved is extremely kind, helpful and very personable. I highly highly recommend this place. 💕🥰

Noma Sushi always has excellent service and fresh sushi! I don't like raw scallop at all, but I always like to try it in different places — we ordered a sashimi bowl and I LOVED scallop in it! Their amberjack, yellowtail and tuna sashimi were 20/10 to me! Noma sushi is the best! 🥰❤️

Hidden gem in Santa Monica! We stumbled upon this amazing Japanese restaurant while visiting Santa Monica with our family, including seniors and kids. It turned out to be one of the highlights of our trip. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and every dish was beautifully presented and full of flavor—from sashimi and sushi rolls to hot dishes like beef bowls and crispy karaage. The variety was impressive, and everything tasted authentic and well-balanced. Even our kids, who usually have small appetites, couldn’t stop eating! If you're looking for a cozy, delicious, and family-friendly Japanese spot in Santa Monica, don’t miss this place. It truly deserves more recognition!

Great sushi spot! They do offer a very large variety on their menu from fish to bento (with meat) to different types of rolls. You need to sign in outside for your party to be added to the waiting list, and once it is your turn they will come up to you. They have a system and just make sure you respect that as the entrance would get crowded very fast. For the food, we have our regulars items that we like to order. I do tend to order a bit too much - I feel portion are very decent. It has always been good and refreshing place. The crispy rice I prefer when they are smaller.

My friends took us to this incredible Japanese restaurant in Santa Monica, and wow! This place has been a local icon since 1973, and it’s easy to see why it’s still packed decades later. We arrived at 4 pm and walked right in (pro tip: avoid peak lunch/dinner hours if you hate waiting!). Many regulars here are Japanese locals who’ve been dining here for years, which is always a good sign. We ordered their bento boxes, and let me tell you—they’re a steal at just over $20! Each box was packed with fresh, flavorful dishes, all perfectly balanced and hearty enough to leave us stuffed. If you’re craving an authentic Japanese experience in Santa Monica without breaking the bank, this spot is a must-visit. Affordable, delicious, and oozing with charm—you can’t go wrong here!

Let me start by saying, I am not a sushi guy. I always had that barrier of eating raw seafood. I came here with a friend who promised they have cooked sushi. He ordered bunch of things that I didn’t even understand, some of them were cooked and the others were raw. He tricked me into eating some of the raw options, and oh my! It was fantastic!! No fishy taste at all, which was surprising to me. The place looks extremely authentic and ambience is excellent!!! Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. I loved everything about that place. 10/10. Would I come here again? Hell yeah!!

We loved old Noma can’t lie. It feels like they’re in an adjustment period to the new location. New location is beautiful and spacious, it feels like they are a little bit understaffed. Food continues to be absolutely incredible!

The food was decent. The time we waited for our food was ridiculous. My husband ordered a bento box that came promptly. We watched him eat and then waited and waited and waited. It was more important to fill their to go orders then take care of their guest. The excuse was we have alot of take out orders. When I asked would it go faster if I called in the order, he finally got them to make our order. Disappointed. Won’t be back.
