The food is very good! And if you’re OK with paying for your food at the cash register and then having it served to you, then it’s great! The servers do try to make sure you’re OK too.
Stopped for a to go burrito. Place was packed but they still cranked out my large super burrito in like 3 minutes. Check it out!
Wow, the servings were huge! I got the Juevos Rancheros because breakfast all day, every day. Wife ordered cheese enchilada plate, Bug ordered a bean n cheese burrito. The Michelada was tasty as well!
This is one pricier taco joints in town, but we'll worth it. The quality of the food is top notch, but let's talk size. OMG my burrito (with extra meat) was HUGE! It was bigger than my forearm, and I'm not talking length. This was by far, the girthiest burrito I've EVER been served. I recommend Chelino's to anyone looking for an awesome, filling meal and will most definitely be returning.
Chelinos is not your typical walk in, sit down, and a wait person comes over and takes your order type restaurant. It is however a wonderful little Mexican Restaurant where you counter order from a scrumptious menu of fine Mexican cuisine. The place is typically packed with folks. My wife and I love it. If you enjoy well prepared Mexican cuisine; you owe it to yourself to give it a try. Colin and Lorraine
Good food very Authentic, I had the tacos and my friend had enchiladas and it all looked good. Service was great. Only critisism is the salsa they need to make a good salsa that has a little heat.
Best place for Mexican food in Santa Rosa hands down. These folks care about their business and the quality of the food they serve. I've been coming here for years and have never had a bad experience. Great service and great people.
Parking is awful. It's driveways are accessed by 4th Street and college Ave, so a little dangerous. Dinning area is in par with other Latin food diners so it could use improvement. But you come for the food and chelinos is among the best in Santa Rosa and the complementary salsa is hot and flavorful and I hear their cheladas are good and made with any beer you like. Both my father and mothers cousin are regulars. I recommend all to give them a try.
Great Mexican food, wonderful staff, cool atmosphere. Also good for gluten free food, though they don't have a menu for it specifically. I have celiac disease and have never had a bad reaction.
Chili colorado awesome. the one place to get all around good food nice friendly and have been in business for tons of years there was a lady who use to make tortillas by hand I loved to watch her I haven't seen her in a long time at the college ave area restaurant. Sebastopol road is where I took my family and started eating the food and they split to different locations it took awhile before I found it again
The portions are giant here. I love that they have authentic plates you can't always find at other places. My husband loves cabeza tacos and tacos de lengua, menudo and pozole are also a hit in my family. (Sorry for my spelling 😂). Quick and friendly service.
I come from Rohnert Park, food is always great, I live Chelino's! Anytime I want a burrito 🌯 I drive up to get one (the only place I eat burrito's!) Love you guys! I tell all my friends, this is the place to go!
After years of searching for the perfect chile rellenos, Eureka! I found them at Chelino's in Santa Rosa, CA at the corner of 4th Street and College Avenue. The chile is just right, not to spicy and doesn't overwhelm the freshness of the light tomato sauce. The cheese is well melted and not too much. But the best part of everything is the chunky onion and green bell peppers. I enjoy the rellenos when ever I'm in Santa Rosa and will continue to do so as long as I can!
Huge burritos. I can eat a lot, but a super carnitas burrito from Chelino's is on the short list of meals I can't knock out in one sitting. Hopefully soon they get the Salsa bar back, it had 6 or 7 salsas and peppers, onions, radish. I would go here before Covid and just have chips and salsa it was so good.
I literally come here every weekend. It’s my favorite Mexican restaurant. The staff are very kind people. The food here is always delicious and it never disappoints me
Fast friendly service. Professional services. Great variety of Mexican food got menudo and super nachos . Menudos are very big portions. Me and my husband could have shared a plate😊😍
I'm mexican and I can say this is one of the best authentic Mexican restaurants in the county...prices are a bit high but you gotta pay for quality. 100% recommend
Almost missed it when we were in Santa Rosa for Dr appointment. Great food. Delicious fish taco with their special and large chili rellenos burrito!!! Great variety of freshly made Mexican food. Combo plates and special dinner menus. You order and pay before you sit to eat. Cantina style and do have outdoor dining. Handicap accessible. Looking forward to returning on our next Dr appt.
Okay, this place is doing such a great job. The portions are the most generous I've seen in all the town of Santa Rosa and surrounding. I also don't get sick from their Carnitas, which I can't say for any other restaurant. Their Horchata is FIRE! I'm willing to bet they make it in house. My only thing they can do better is serve more limes.
The location and the locale is not the best. But what keeps me coming back is the excellent service and the amazing food. I have eaten here regularly for years and they never fail. Everything on the menu is great. The best are the shrimp dishes. They load them up and cook them perfectly. My personal favortie is their lengua. YUMMY
I've been there twice now. Went there on Mother's Day with a friend. We both got a rose with baby's breath as we were leaving. The food is one of the best Mexican restaurants around. They're pleasant and eager to please. Good Mexican restaurants are hard to find.
Amazing food and super friendly staff. My only "complaint" is they hand out the chips and salsa as if they are made if gold. My #1 favorite Mexican restaurant in SRosa and we go there regularly for work lunches.
We’ve been in Sonoma / Napa doing the wine thing for over a week now. It’s our last night before flying back home and had to have good Mexican. Stopped at Chelino’s because of reviews and glad we did. Excellent and fresh. Don’t hesitate.
Friendly local Mexican restaurant. Tables/booths inside. Very generous portions, good food. I had the combo with Chile relleno, enchilada, tamale, rice & beans. Excellent food, friendly staff. Serve yourself soft drinks. Large screen tvs on walls with sporting events.
I've been coming here for over 15 years and it is by far my favorite Mexican food spot in the city. I have tried many other local taquerias however nothing compares to Chelinos. Can be a little pricey compared to other places but the taste pays for itself.
We love Chelinos and have started ordering on a weekly basis. Food is cooked to perfection and is so healthy and fresh! Highly recommend.
OMG.. BEST MEXICAN FOOD EVER! My sister & I had dinner 2 go Friday & it was so awesome, we came back next day! I'd drive from Pollock Pines just to eat there again & that 145 miles. Worth the drive & staff/chefs are authentically THE BEST! Got our picky orders Spot On! Take the extra time 2 go here. OMG, CAN'T SAY ENOUGH HOW AMAZING FOOD IS!🤸♂️
Chicken enchiladas here are hella good here like the dark sauce on them. Haven’t been in the restaurant just ordered delivery
I just happened on this taco shop. All I can say that IT ROCKS. I'm from San Diego ,and now live in Ft Bragg ,and the only thing I miss is the Taco shops. I've been to Santa Rosa 2 times in the last 3 days and have eaten here 2 times. Give it a try. The tacos and burritos are some of the best I've had in Northern California. I will be back the next time in town.
The food is soooo good pretty expensive. I’m not really sure why but taste amazing. Customer service could be a little bit better chips and salsa aren’t really my favorite but overall really good restaurant
Everyone is so friendly and helpful, and the food is AMAZING! We got tamales and enchiladas, they were both delicious. The food was very fresh, and the meat was so tasty!! The inside is also super cute and so very clean. We were just passing through, but we will stop by again when we are in the area! Thank you for a great experience!
I literally eat here 3 to 4 times a week. It's the best Mexican food I have had in a long time. Chelino's can get pretty busy, and packed, but I feel like the staff do a good job of helping people quickly and working through the lines and orders. I have eaten here at least 50 times and have only had an issue with my order once- they fixed it very quickly. Everyone is always so friendly here, as well. Honestly, after writing this review, I am probably going back today for lunch.
Can you say incredible customer service! I just went there to get a re do for my grandma, not only did they treat her like family but they made her the best shrimp cocktail she's ever had, and she's 87 years old! They put 3 times as much strimp for her! She was so surprised when I brought it to her, she almost got emotional from how good she was treated, it warmed my heart! This is the best Mexican restaurant I have ever been too! and when I say their shrimp are huge, I mean huge!!! no ocean taste, they taste great! And u can tell from their 5 star rating, that it's a place u just have to try! And dont be intimidated if it's straight packed! That just tells you how good their food is! they are so fast! And their food is a taist of authentic Mexican food from back home! Stop by as soon as u can
One of my favorite places to eat in downtown and college area of Santa Rosa. Free parking. Great vegetarian and vegan options. Tasty and authentic Mexican feel good comfort food. Fresh chips and salsa bar. Clean bathrooms. Food is fast staff is friendly!
Absolutely delicious, only place we could find for real food since we were on mandatory evacuation but stated and only left to search for food. So thank you for being open. Had the Wet Super burrito with Grilled Steak with Verde Sauce...yummy and gigantic had 2 meals.
Been eating here since they opened. Family owned and run...authentic Mexican food with great quality which is priced fair for what you get..since made to order they are very accommodating to your likes...for example i like chicken breast so for a little more they give a lot more. Staff has always been very helpful and friendly, and the food has always been of good quality and quantity.
We've had their Asada Tacos as well as their Al Pastor Tacos. The tacos were pretty good. But we love their Wet Super Burritos. Typically order to go, and one burrito is more than enough for the two of us. The Al Pastor was very well seasoned and the sauce is nice and spicy.
The steak chimichanga is the best ive ever had. the smokey flavor of the steak. whatever oil they fry it in. I love the dark green sauce. the cheese. the rice it all works so well together. and the price recently went down to 17.63 so now i can buy two and not feel so bad. thank you to the owner and staff im a big fan lol.
One of the best Mexican restaurant in town. I come here for great food, consistency, and food done right. 🌮 🌯
Food was amazing great flavor and my kids loved their burritos.
Knew we were in the right spot when we noticed we were the only white people in the place at first. Service was off the chart good. Super friendly folks. Food was excellent authentic south of the border good. Atmosphere was cherry, clean not too loud. Was a very pleasant experience. We met my mother and her significant other for an impromptu dinner. Price was reasonable as well . Outstanding menu!! Kid friendly as well. Parking and acsess was decent.
I have only ordered from Chelino:s through doordash mostly for their delicious chicken tamales. This time I ordered a three meal with relleno, tamale and enchilada asking for all sauces on the side. They graciously complied to my request and the food was delicious!
By far the best Mexican restaurant in town. Always consistently top notch food and experience. I’ve been coming here since they opened and even when they were part of Pepe,s, which has changed hands and went down hill, but these owners know how to cook great food. I will always come here for real good food.
I cannot believe how this restaurant only has a 4.3 rating — it should be a solid 5! I tried the burrito à la carte shrimp and the shrimp quesadilla with chips (chips are on the house), and I still can’t get over how great everything was. Even the service was excellent. Once a month, we drive there from San Francisco just to have this food. They always serve fresh, clean dishes with amazing house-made sauces.
We were here on a weekday at not quite 5 pm and it was easy to find seating. You order your order at the counter and it's brought to your table in a very timely manner. Great selection including vegetarian options. Food comes in very generous portions and is delicious. Service is very friendly. We certainly will be back.
Enchiladas with the most delicious sauce, terrific shredded chicken tacos, delicious ground beef with melted cheese, my daughter loved the dishes. Many families were enjoying their dinner when we went to eat. Chelino’s restaurant is a family favorite in a neighborhood diner like atmosphere out of a film made on Highway 12 into Downtown Santa Rosa.
What a find this place was in Santa Rosa. Dying for a snack and Michelada we stopped here. Order when you walk in at the counter with an expansive menu I had no idea what to hope for. Watching the drink being prepared must have been like watching DaVinci work, it was out of this world. The green spicy sauce was delish on the enchiladas and the burrito was enormous. The service was fast and attentive. The restaurant was clean, hospitable and well lit. There is even outdoor seating. I highly recommended this one.
Spent most of my childhood using this place as my preferred take out, never had a poor experience once. If you're looking for the perfect example of California Mexican cuisine this is a good place to start. I recommend any burrito wet with red sauce.
Easy to call ahead and order by phone. Great breakfast burritos. Big fan of the salsas. Often a short to long line of customers. Pozole is awesome (check availability) too.
Very good typical Mexican food. Walk up, place order and they bring the food to you. Refried beans were a little watery but excellent fresh salsa. Portions are huge. All the typical food choices from tacos, burritos, combos as well as breakfast. Would definitely make it a regular stop.
I've been here over 100 times. Good reason for that. Decent salsa bar. The only reason I haven't been here as much is because it's a 10 dollar burrito. And with the burrito lottery, it's not always worth it. Sometimes not as good or big as others.
I've been going here for years, and as the economy changes, and as the business gets more success, the prices have been changing and the food itself has been changing. What used to be a 5 star to me is now a 4 star. I'll stop by if I'm in the area, but it's not my first choice anymore.
They were very fast in preparing my take out order. The whole family enjoyed their dishes! I will definitely go back.
I have been going to Chelino's for about 4 years. The food is very tasty, always made to order & large enough portions that I end up taking some home. My favorite right now is their tostada.
All I have had is their breakfast burritos(with bacon) which have been sincerely my favorite in all of Santa Rosa. Paired with the green salsa it is a fantastic breakfast. That alone deserves the rating of 4 stars but the restaurant itself holds it down with traditional Mexican ambience.
I live a couple blocks away so my roommates and I eat here often. It's great. Nothing fancy but the flavors are on point and the staff are all kind people. If you're in the area don't hesitate to stop by.
Been coming to this place for decades. Nice clean Mexican food with a somewhat authentic taste. A little Americanized AKA not that greasy.
A great restaurant but a little pricey for Mexican food. Its well worth it anyhow. The service was great fast and reliable. The atmosphere is superior to most Mexican restaurant if you want to compare it
Chelinos is by far and away the best Mexican restaurant for quality of food. Everything is always delicious. I love their grande combination and they have amazing refried beans. We go there regularly when in the mood for the best food. Other restaurants like Juanita’s, Mocajentes, El Charros in Santa Rosa or Sonoma Eats and El Molina Central in Sonoma have delicious food but not on the level. Unfortunately, Chelinos is quite pricey $$$ comparatively to the others. Maybe it’s just true that you get what you pay for. The food has always been excellent but prior to COVID, the prices were incredibly reasonable and they used to have a deluxe salsa bar which sadly has never returned. There was also an incredibly warm, welcoming atmosphere as employees made a point of connecting with customers. Don’t get me wrong, the service is still just fine but it’s nothing to write home about. 1. Less warmth and service 2. Pricey menu 3. No salsa bar (trying to save money?) We used to only eat at Chelinos, but now we spread ourselves around because of the aforementioned reasons. BRING BACK THE SALSA BAR!! But, if you love quality Mexican food like most Californians, you are missing out if you haven’t been to Chelinos.
This review is based on the Caldo de Res (beef soup). I came 2 days in a row to order it, I really like it on day 1, so I came back the next day. Same results, a huge bowl, plenty of meat and veggies. Soup just hits different on a cold, rainy day. Broth was tasty and served hot, so be careful. My only complaint would be the price, $23 for the soup.
Food was good and portion was good as well. Ordered two hard shell tacos, a tostada and a sude of refried beans. The beans were a bit too runny for my taste. The rest was just okay.
Passably good Mexican food for a bit more than you should probably spend for the quality and tastiness. Better, less expensive food down the street at El Patio. The drive-up diner ambiance is interesting.
Food is good. Had the carnitas dinner plate $18.95. Easily had two meals out of the portion size or one very large.
Its more like 3 1/2 stars. Its hit or miss for me in this place. Some things are great like their mole and fajitas and some things are "ehh" like their chile verde. The tacos are ok but they put pico de gallo instead of cilantro and onions. Thats not my personal preferance.
Go grab some tacos and Rosa de Jamaica (not too sweet, not too tart)! Their salsa bar os great for those who like extra spicy. But watch out if you can't handle spicy, even their mild has a kick!
I did enjoy my food the portions were large and the meat was tasty. It wasn't anything out of the ordinary so I thought it was priced a little to high. Also I asked for some ghost peppers on my nachos and they didn't cut them... I dont know it just felt kinda lazy.
Updated…still great but has become super expensive. What you pay for now, not worth it. Seriously the best burritos in town. Great service. Worth the wait in line or the hold when calling in an order!
Not from Santa Ross so don't know what the quality to price ratio is here. But got a burrito, 1 beer and a very small bowl of quacamole for $28. Guacamole was Avocado only. No tomatoes, lime etc. Burrito was filling, but not in any way memorable. This place would not survive in the Bay Area but people seem to give it good reviews locally so maybe it's good for Santa Rosa.
Authentic Mexican food? Sure. Prices, a little high. $10 for a basic burrito, $12 for the super upgrade. The food was average. The salsa bar with two varieties of Pico de gallo was excellent. The staff was ok, but couldn't explain things in English. It's a clean restaurant. The weekday lunchtime line is lengthy. Prepare to wait to order. Nobody comes to your table to take your order. The atmosphere is seating at long tables but there are also private booths or counter seats. The bathrooms are along the side of the building, not inside. You will need a key. The food? My carnitas super burrito was standard. I added salsa from the salsa bar to add some taste. I've had more tasty burritos elsewhere. This restaurant receives a 3.5 rating.
I had the fish tacos, they were seasoned well but I wasn't crazy for the coleslaw it was just the vegetable without any seasoning The chipotle sauce was good just a little spicy for my taste. My husband had the menudo which tasted really good and it was a great portion. He took it home for the next day
Food, meh, guacamole fantastic! My moma, who's from Oklahoma, can make a better taco or burrito than this place, and my mom best dish is biscuits and gravy.. so her being able to compete with the folks in the kitchen making tacos and burritos doesn't say a whole lot for their skills.... however, whoever is making that guacamole... two thumbs up, baby!
The Food is Good. I know about authentic Mexican food so I can say its Good, but nothing Special. The meats are well cooked and seasoned well enough. The service is also Good. They are timely when abiding to your requests. The prices are a bit higher but its expected in Santa Rosa nowadays. Its usually Busy on weekends but they deliver fairly quickly considering. Some of the salsas are not fresh but most are Good salsas and they have variety from Non-spicy to spiciest. If you have never had authentic Mexican food, and don't want to eat at taco trucks because many are not sanitary, this would be as close as you can get without spending way too much.
My girlfriend ordered fish tacos that were very fishy smelling and inedible. I got an al pastor burrito that was sloppy and tasted of canned ingredients. I don't understand all the rave reviews for this place, it is not good.
Food is kinda good and the people are nice but they always get my order wrong whenever I eat there
Wait in line to order meals that are kind of expensive, then find your own table. Food delivered suspiciously quickly, and was not very good. We have given this place two tries, different times of the day, and were disappointed with the food each time. Staff not helpful, and rather unfriendly. We'll go to our old neighborhood standby Santa Rosa Taqueria in Montecito Center. The food is better by far, and cheaper, with a friendly staff. They do a massive take-out business, but have comfortable table service as well.
I confess, I don't get the excitement over Chelino's. I've only been once, but the food was ordinary at best. Every restaurant can have an off day, but dry meat and stale, room temperature chips that taste like they came out of one of those giant, warehouse-store bags of tortilla chips left me disinclined to go for a second try.
6$ tacos they were big though I ate 1.5 tacos less then 5 minutes after leaving my stomach started gurgling I almost shat myself something wasn’t right! It could be sanitizers they use and not the actual food food. Taste was fine. The restaurant was freezing like I was outside. I probably will never go back.
I’ve been to this restaurant twice (dine-in and take-out). This place was recommended by a coworker, so I was excited to check it out! While there, the table we sat at the sticky and it really smelled bad. It was so gross that we actually had to move. In general, the dining areas are old, rundown and lacking in atmosphere. Kind of disappointing when you’re at a restaurant with loved ones. We had the beef and chicken enchiladas and chips with guacamole. The beef enchiladas were excellent! The guacamole was very good and had a lot of lime in it. I didn’t miss the cilantro though. 😕 I called in for the to-go order. The beef enchiladas were so good, we decided to order them again for lunch. However, what we received was cheese enchiladas which really sucked! We called back to tell them they gave us the wrong food, but they insisted we ordered cheese enchiladas and wouldn’t help us. It’s ridiculous (and lame) to insist that I don’t know what I ordered. 🤔Bad form and bad customer service. The cheese enchiladas were so bad I did not eat them. 🤢 So I lost $20 dollars and the gas there and back. The restaurant didn’t care about that so…they lost this customer.
Bad experience there tonight. On the menu they listed large guacamole $7.99 OK. She rang it up at $17.99. when questioned about it, she just casually said “oh, the menu board must be wrong.” We asked for an adjustment and she said no. What was even worse, I had to add four or five different spices and condiments and some tomatoes to make the guacamole even edible. Our last time at this restaurant.
We used to LOVE coming here with our family for over a decade. Just eat there and was sadly disappointed. The enchiladas and beans were microwaved, making the tortillas chewy and tough. Really bummed.
Place wasn’t packed, customer service was okay, I ordered 1 taco, 1 wet burrito, taco was okay, but my burrito came out dry, had to tell the waiter and sent it back, meat tasted like it was boiled not fried, the salsa was pico, overloaded with tomatoes. And 6 dollars for a bottle coke?
Do yourself a favor and go to Chevys or Taco Bell instead. Not good at all and very, very overpriced. Tilapia fish they serve are widely known to cause cancer due to specific farmed nature of that fish. Fish tacos and beef tacos were tasteless and bland. Truly unimpressive. Other meals were extremely basic and non remarkable. I would not go back again.
I'm a Chilli relleno fan. I hadn't been there before and decided to try it out. Hands done the worst chili relleno I've ever had in my life and I'm in my 60's. I didn't care for their gritty beans and the rice was blah. Never again for me.
I called in an order, drove 10 minutes to pick it up. It was 8:47pm, all the doors were locked i knocked on the door 2 separate time in fact 3 different employees saw me and ignored me. So i left i called the restaurant and told the lady ehat happened. I was really looking DH oward to returning and having a burrito and a fish taco. If you close at 9 pm why lock the doors before even though they have phone orders that need to be picked up? Owell they lost a customer. I ended up going to jack in the box the drive thrugh actually lets you get your food! In case anyone wonders.
They were very rude. Treated me badly because I had an ada animal with me. They do not like animals, staff is drinking while the work. Very unsatisfied with the staff and their work ethic.
Haven't been here for 5 years since I moved out of the area. They remodeled and updated the place. Ordered menudo and chillaquiles with red sauce. Menudo was gross. Chillaquiles were not chillaquiles they took tortillas and smothered them in red sauce then a layer of overcooked browned scrambled eggs sprinkled jack cheese on top. Chillaquiles is fried tortillas that u then add scrambled eggs to then sauce then Cotija cheese. I see why they have you order and pay beforehand so u can't complain. We ate a few bites and just left. Waste of money.
Probably the worst pozole I've ever tried. Completely void of salt and flavor, it tasted like pork water. Half of the "meat" was just hard grissel and bones. Very disappointed as this is one of my favorite dishes to eat.
Came to chalinos to try food.last time I ate here was over 5 years ago and food was decent then. My experience now. service was ok Only thing about that was, I ordered an enchilada Plate and then ordered two Enchiladas on the side., Server had told me that the extra enchiladas come with rice and beans, but never did. Food was okay.but To be honest Lack the little bit of that extra Seasoning. And then on my extra Enchiladas, that didn't come with beans and rice. The tortillas were raw like when I say raw. I mean, it's almost like they just took it out of the package. Softened it up for a quick second and threw it on the plate. Took my first bite an automatically hard Raw tortilla. My experience here Wasn't exactly the best.
The food and service here are amazing!!! The main dishes were filled with flavor and I kept complimenting my dish. Unfortunately the prices are so outrageous. The menu shows one price, but the price you pay is double what you see. False advertising at its finest. Paid $75 for 2 people before tip.
