Of all the innumerable number of fried chicken sandwiches present in this area of Seattle, I think this is probably the best one This isn't the biggest sandwich - that belongs to Impeckable, with its HGH-fueled Godzilla chickens. It's not the crispiest either - I would say Impeckable beats it there too. Where this excels is in the seasoning and the overall flavors. Firstly, the chicken patty is seasoned remarkably well. It's the best I've seen outside of Dave's Hot Chicken. Despite the fact that I got the medium heat (I would've gotten the hot had it not been for the extra 50 cent charge), this was still smothered in a spice mix. When the chicken turns such a deep red color, even on a medium spice level, that tells you a lot of flavor was gained in that process. This is something you felt while eating. While not really spicy, you definitely felt the presence of the seasonings a lot. I would definitely get the hot next time to feel it even more. The inside of the chicken patty was surprisingly fantastic. Despite it being chicken breast, it was immensely juicy - some of the best chicken breast I've had on this type of sandwich. The meat was very thick, stayed perfectly cooked throughout, and if I didn't know any better - I'd think it was dark meat, which is a huge plus. The rest of the sandwich complements the chicken patty very well. The bun is really well toasted, and it's a King's Hawaiian roll - giving it a very sweet taste. The daikon pickles add even more sweetness, which just enhances the contrast of the sandwich even more. Lastly, a generous amount of mayo gives this a ton of moisture and prevents you from getting any dry bites. This sandwich cost about $15, which is expensive for a fried chicken sandwich, but not terrible considering the location. The only issue I had was the lack of crispiness. There was pretty much zero crunch at all to this - the chicken patty tasted pretty soft, like it hadn't been fried at all. Overall, as I mentioned, this is my favorite fried chicken in the South Lake Union area, because it gets all the supporting pieces of the sandwich right. 8.5/10
My favorite chicken sandwich in the city. As with other Ma’ono locations, they deliver very tasty friend chicken in a nice setting. This location has a nice looking dining area with counters for quick bites and tables for longer stays. Great for the area whether you want to pop in or sit for a while. Service was great, friendly and attentive. The food is the main attraction and worth seeking out. It’s only the basics with chicken and fries but they do them right. The spice levels don’t mess around and bring an actual, tasty, spicy chicken. Rachel’s Ginger Beer for their beverage offerings is great as well. A premium experience for premium chicken.
The chicken pop-up at Rachel’s Ginger Beer serves a solid chicken sandwich and fries. I usually get the mild chicken sandwich—it has a good cayenne-style chili flavor with just the right amount of heat. Definitely a reliable option if you’re in the area.
I got the plant based fried “chicken” and it was so delicious; I got it with a side of corn! I love a good fried chicken sandwich, but was curious about their non-meat option. Definitely would go back to try a real fried chicken sandwich.
I went to this place on a food tour last year, and now every time I'm town, I have to make a stop to get some fried chicken and honey mustard sauce. This chicken is fantastic. It's juicy and tender, and you can choose the spiceness for the breading. I'm also very much a sauce girl, and I could eat buckets of the honey mustard sauce, which has a delightful kick to it that pairs so well with the chicken. I do have to say, the potato mac salad was not my favorite. It didn't taste the same quality as the chicken and it too dry for my tastes. In the future, I'll just stick with getting the chicken. It's right next to the Amazon spheres, so you can watch the crowds while you eat, and they share space with Rachel's Ginger Beer so you can have a tasty drink with your food. (I highly recommend the pink guava Moscow mule.) I'm already looking forward to my next trip to the area.
I love this place, they have the absolute best fried chicken, their sandwich is to die for I recommend mild spice for a good balance of spice and flavor. Being attached to Rachel’s Ginger Beer makes this whole place fantastic.
A chicken sandwich shop in the same place as Rachel’s ginger beer! It’s an excellent pairing and I really liked the chicken sandwich. It was perfectly juicy and had crunchy skin
Great spicy chicken sandwich, love the crunch of the chicken and toasted buns.
Chicken was so moist and crispy. Came out pretty fast and the place is coupled with rachel's ginger beer which is a great combo!
Really tasty chicken sandwich. Chose the hot chicken and it has the right level of spice. Chicken was tender and crispy. Had a soft serve ice cream to cool down, was yummy.
Sharing the same place with RGB, you can order fried chicken and ginger beer right next to it. Great combination. I enjoy the spicy chicken fingers with honey mustard dip sauce. It is hybrid between American style and Korean style, the chicken is marinated for enough time and pretty flavorful. Would be even better if juicier.
Really enjoyed this take on fried chicken sandwiches! Solid texture and crunch all together! Chicken was very nice and overall enjoyed the fries too!
Visited Seattle for a weekend and this place was recommended by a friend. The menu was pretty limited but the food was incredible. Seriously one of the best chicken sandwiches I’ve ever had.
One of best ice creams especially for summer evenings! I tried their pineapple dole ice cream (around $5) and it had the right amount of sweetness and pineapple flavor.
Super tasty fried chicken! Brought a group of interns on a tour and they loved it. Thanks Sylas and Eat Seattle Tours
Nice fried chicken while the maximum hot level is not that spicy if compared to authentic Nashville hot chicken.
Great chicken with a view of the spheres, good choice of sauces and levels of spicy (including non spicy for kids).
First timer. Chicken fingers at medium. Still spicy, tender & and delightful! I'm trying the drumsticks next.
The chicken is awesome! Advice is to order ahead for takeout instead of having to wait for the food.
No joke, the first time I had Ma'ono's chicken tenders, my immediate first thought was "Wow, I did not realize chicken tenders could taste this good". They are truly phenomenal. The chicken itself is super tender and moist, they have just the right amount of breading, and the spices they use are nice and flavorful without completely overpowering the taste of the chicken. The only other main item I've tried is the chicken sandwich, which is also quite good, though I personally prefer the tenders, maybe just because you don't have the bread getting in the way of the chickeny goodness. Side-wise, their fries are good, nicely seasoned, and I also recommend trying the potato mac salad if it sounds up your alley. I assume the others are good but I haven't tried them yet. Bottom line though, you gotta try this chicken. (and get some ginger beer too while you're there!)
Very good spicy fried chicken for relatively reasonable price considering the location. Quick service and nice staff as well. Note to self: order the top tier hotness level next time
Spending 24 hours in Seattle and I dropped by for a quick bite after seeing the reviews. Chicken sandwich was huge and tasty. Quite a generous portion. Service was very friendly & quick. Loved it.
Quite possibly the best fried chicken I’ve ever had! I got the drumsticks and the chicken was juicy and the skin was extra crispy. I got it “hot” and it was covered in seasoning and very spicy indeed - I like spicy food so it was great for me but be warned! The ranch went well with it as well.
I'm usually not big on fried chicken but this one's different! Best fried chicken I've tasted, perfectly crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside and the best part - the spices! You can get the chicken in 5 spice levels (Naked, Mild, Medium, Hot, X-Hot), I typically go for the hot which when paired with the sweet pickles and mayo in their sandwich is bloody delicious!! Cannot recommend this place enough.
Had a craving for fried chicken and a co-worker suggested this place. HUGE win for me. The drumsticks were delicious. Breading was crispy but thin so it did not overwhelm the chicken but balanced perfectly! Could not have been happier!
I've been here probably around 10 times. Best fried chicken I've ever had, and great fries too! Crunchy on the outside and juicy on the inside. I recommend getting the drumsticks and fries, the drumsticks are tastier and better value than the other options imo. Drumsticks cost $8 when I was there and were at least as much food as the other more expensive options. In general the food is quite affordable!
If you just want some crispy chicken strips this was great. it's a simple menu but I loved this. Such a great price for food considering the area. Chicken strips were so tender and big. Can't wait to try other dry rubs, heat levels, and menu options.
It took over 20mins to get my fried chicken sandwich order, but I gotta say it's one of the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had! Very tender and crispy chicken with delicious sauce.
Chix sandwich, mild, was super good. Perfectly cook, moist, thick cut. Potato Mac salad was a pleasant surprise. Great flavors, loved the fermented/or pickled veggies. Very solid.
Generous portions of tasty chicken at a reasonable price - a rarity in downtown Seattle. I'd highly recommend the chicken tenders and the kalua chicken (Hawaiian pulled chicken) sandwich. If you're coming for lunch, place your order online in advance since there's always a crowd.
The chicken is great-I always look forward to the chicken sandwich. The heat/spice is right, it’s crispy and cooked great, and the fries are the thin crispy ones. Don’t expect a crazy huge menu, there are just the essentials: fried chicken fingers, the sandwich, the drumsticks, fries. The daikon radish pickles are an awesome touch. I like to order the box of fingers and eat like half of them (weird, I know, but they’re usually large) then I have a side order of the daikon radish pickles and make a sandwich the next day. There have been rare moments when I have felt slighted on two fronts-and this is in regards to quality control-I have been disappointed at the size of the piece of chicken on the sandwich, or that it’s 1/3 breading. On my last order, I only had one small daikon pickle where they usually give you three. I’d already driven my pick-up order home and couldn’t do much about it that night. You can also get Dole whip (with rainbow sprinkles), which excites me because I can’t have dairy. Although I like Frankie & Jo’s (plant based frozen confections), it’s nice to have another dairy-free option in an area where two places selling Molly Moon’s are the front runners. Any place that can give be a non-coconut base is a plus in my book.
Fantastic fried chicken sandwiches with a nice selection of spice levels, good portions, great sauce ratio and in a comfy little ginger beer bar. Come here often and will keep coming back!
so sad i love maonos but my one time at this location just wasn’t great. no tenders :( the sandwich was almost $18 and when i opened it up the chicken covered maybe half the area of the bun. such a bummer. edit: i was reached out to. will change to 5 stars and see if my next experience is better. thanks for the attentiveness.
Ordered the fried chicken drumsticks and they are crispy and large sized. However, too salty without any of their sweet sauces to dip in. You have to clarify whether the first dip is free coz when you head to the counter, it’s says $1.XX. I would say it’s fair pricing for the setup and a pretty filling meal in view of the horrible inflation in the US.
Very decent fried chicken! The chicken is tender and juicy with a hard crunch on the outside. Personally prefer a lighter crunch but that’s on me. The flavour is on the crunch primarily, which makes the bite after the first slightly tasteless. They do provide you with sauce which helps giving it more flavours. Both the fries and chicken thighs are fried perfectly and the daikon helps keep the meal refreshing.
Great chicken, sides are a bit blasé, place is uncomfortably packed with people, not their fault obviously, but a testament to their quality. Hottest chicken wasn't overwhelming, but might slightly disappoint true spice heads. Will be returning for sure!
Nice little restaurant with delicious ginger beer shop attached to it. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich. The flavors were good, chicken was nice and moist with a good crunch. My only complaint was the shredded lettuce they placed in the sandwich. Because it’s shredded so small it kept falling out everywhere from the bun. Everywhere 🤣 I think it would be better to not shred the lettuce so it actually stays on the bun with the chicken. I’m grateful for the food in front of me but that was the single most irritating chicken sandwich experience lol!
Great chicken sandwich! Seasoned fries are ok. Potato mac salad was quite disappointing tho. It was really thick and dense. Not like I was expecting at all could only eat one bite of the ~$4 side. Otherwise great lunch spot that wasn't too busy
Idk if I came on a bad day (Friday evening) but it was not as good as I expected. Chicken was small (smaller than the bun) and I got the hot spice level, but it wasn’t even that hot. And the sandwich alone was $17 ish after tax too 😭😭 I’ll stick to shake shack I fear
This place does fried chicken a bit differently, super crispy skin and lots of breading. Bone in was decent, but tenders were pretty overcooked and more dried out. Fries pretty good.
They charged $4.50 for this many fries 😡chicken was good though
Picked up a 3 piece chicken fingers with medium heat and bbq sauce. It was super spicy and while it tasted good going down, did give an upset stomach a bit later. Would skip this stop.
It's really hit and miss. You can have days with the most amazing delicious chicken (and drinks!), and other days it tastes like two day old reheated KFC. While I don't think it's the restaurant as such, but rather the people on shift at any given time....having it so inconsistent is not a great experience.
Chicken is great but I was charged an $0.08 bag fee and I was eating there. I didn't want a bag. I don't want to give them money if they are sneaking in extra fees. Just increase the food price. I'm going to find a more honest chicken place.
Food had gone downhill so much. They took out the drumsticks and chicken fingers for completely unknown reasons, and now all they serve is the lukewarm chicken sandwich. I would only be going to the U Village location from now on.. this one had become an utter disappointment..
Went for lunch. Got the sandwich and fingers mild. Saw it on Google maps and saw the reviews were good. They did NOT meet expectations. This chicken was not good, to me.
Paid $15 for the driest fried chicken sandwich I've ever had in my life, and it didn't even include fries. For $15 that chicken better be JUICY. Maybe wealthy amazonians don't complain, but for a place that ONLY makes chicken this is sad.
Food is good, hits 10 out of 10. Service vary based on the cashier’s mode and tipping!
Edit 11/1/2024: More crummy service. Today I ordered 2 chicken fingers. I got back to my office to find that there was only one order in the bag. Called and it goes straight to VM. Edit: So today ordering electronically bit me. I showed the gal at the register that I got an error while ordering in person. When I went to pick up my food I had two bags there. Double order! Please work with the service who provides your online ordering to correct this! Original review: Absolutely the best chicken in the area. Deducting one star because ordering electronically is burdensome and frustrating.
$20 for a Cold Sandwich and a Side of Gaslighting I came to Ma'Ono and ordered a chicken sandwich. Twenty bucks for a burger, basically. I sat right in front of the kitchen exit by the bar, the exact spot where staff walks out with food. After about 10 to 15 minutes, a cook walked out with a to-go bag in his hand, looked at me, and asked, “Hey, what’s your name?” I said, “Mikey.” He never said, “Here’s your food.” He held the bag like he was scanning the room, looking for someone, not like he was handing it to me. Then he walked away toward the food pickup counter area but never set the bag down. He just stood there for maybe 30 seconds at most. I wasn’t even looking at him at that point because I figured that wasn’t my order. I assumed if it were, he would’ve said something and handed it to me when I gave him my name. But nope. A few moments later, he walked right back and gave it to me. I opened it, and the chicken was cold. I went to the counter and let the staff know. The woman brought it back to the kitchen, and the same chef came out and tried to pin it on me. He said the sandwich had been sitting there for ten minutes and that they would remake it this time, but that I needed to be more careful not to let it sit too long next time. What the actual hell. The sandwich was never sitting there. I was seated right in front of that exact area, and no food had been placed there before or during that whole time. No one else walked up. I saw the whole thing happen in real time. The cook asked my name, walked away like it wasn’t mine, then came back and gave it to me without a word. That is not customer error. That is weird. That is confusing. And it is one hundred percent on them. And the cherry on top? After I calmly explained all this to the front clerk, the cook came back and gave me a full-on stare down. Like he was about to start something over a sandwich. Like I’m the one who did something wrong. What kind of insecure energy is that? Yeah, alright, bud. Tough look. Too bad you're stuck serving food with that attitude. No excuse for it. This wasn’t just a cold sandwich. It was a cold, dishonest, and a disrespectful experience. Total lack of professionalism, accountability, or common decency. If this is how you treat paying customers, don’t be surprised when they stop showing up.
