A good experience all around. Went for lunch on a Saturday. They sat us in the back by the bar so I don't know what the front dining area is like but it doesn't matter since the food was so good. We started with karaage (fried chicken thighs) with a tasty miso- based dipping sauce. Knocked my socks off. Then we devoured the smoked duck salad which was an excellent melange of textures and flavors. I also ordered the flight of sake. We ordered the spicy tantanmen Ramen. They have a variety of Ramen and you can go gluten-free and/or vegetarian if so desired. The tantanmen comes with a gorgeous hunk of crispy pork belly. What impressed us the most were the desserts, believe it or not. The tangerine sorbet and the vanilla cream Gelato were superb. Service was attentive and friendly. I highly recommend and will go back.
5 stars isn't enough for this place! Incredible food and atmosphere! We travel an additional 45 minutes in our 2.5 hour drive home for the food. We always make the time to stop by when in the area. The walls are covered in cool art and the waitstaff are friendly and relaxed. Ramen Gajin is the best ramen I (we) have ever had! We always get the pickle plate as well. I have the veg ramen because it is creamy, savory and is packed full of veggies with two extra eggs. (I order an extra 6 min egg) my sons have the pork tonkatsu and my husband likes the veg as well. This last time we visted we had their day's special appetizers, the brussel sprouts (deep fried with an amazing sauce dip and spices) and hand rolled dumplings (savory and tender). Make a reservation they are always packed. You will not be disappointed! Here is a picture of the pickles, we ate the ramen or inhaled the ramen so fast forgot to get the pics!
Superb ramen — both meat (pork) and vegetarian. The vegetarian uses an oat broth, which sounds weird but tastes delicious. For those who don’t eat pork but want meat, add karagi chicken to the vegetarian broth. The owners, who also own a Thai restaurant in Sebastopol, know how to create an excellent but down to earth restaurant.
I had the Spicy Tan Tan Ramen, which I asked to have about medium spicy, it was perfect! My husband had the Pork Tonkotsu Ramen and he liked it alot! My parents got the Chicken Shoyu Ramen and they really enjoyed that. We also ordered the Karaage chicken and the little gems salad which had butternut squash, thinly sliced persimmon (I think), along with other items and it was all really, really good. I'm glad we got to enjoy lunch at this restaurant.
Ramen Gaijin was amazing! The bao buns were incredibly soft and flavorful, and the gyōza were perfectly crispy with a delicious filling. Great service, great vibe definitely coming back for more! The heaters outside are nice and toasty!
This place is AMAZING!!!! Let me start by saying we made reservations for 7:30 and as was expected they where busy. Talking with both hostess they did everything they could to get us to a much wanted table shortly after our reservation and with prompt service. So the drinks came out - not what we expected so we let the server know we would like to make a different selection- she brought back our new drinks and proceeds to take our order.. after about 12 min' our soup came to the table;; Now like I said they where very very busy and when our meals came my ladies Ramin was lacking broth and some key vegetables. We called our waitress over (Lexi- supper sweet) and like lighting eased our assures with the help of the manager. Man, this girl not only came back to us with a piping hot ' perfect bowl of Ramen but with a smile and personality and demeanor that assured me my dinning experience was worth every penny. - man to top off any issues- (at this point they went above and beyond to kill any) Ramin Gaijin and family ended our meal with a Black Sesame Seed sorbet '. This is a restaurant that deserves our business. Keep Ricking!!!!! Thank you again Gaijin, you will be seeing us again shortly. 💯🥰😇.
We wandered in just ahead of the dinner rush and luckily snagged 2 seats at the chefs counter which was quite fun to watch the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. They have pork in a majority of their dishes but the ones without were exceptional. Add a fried chicken thigh to the ramen bowls you won't regret it!
I was blessed to be able to try so many of their dishes. This was my first time here and I loved it all. All the dishes in my photos were each so different and had their own unique vibe. They were all memorable. I went for lunch on the weekend andcwe sat outdoors. Our server was attentive polite and answered any questions we had about the menu items. The location is good with parking near by. If you haven't tried their food you should go asap.
Ramen was good got the tantan ramen. The pork belly was very nicely cooked I want to say one of the best restaurants at the pork belly part. Good flavor. Ate outdoors under the patio heaters it was comfortable. Service took some time to get seated on a Saturday night. Gets busy. I’d say the reason it was not 5 stars was the turnover wasn’t as fast as I think it could have been to get people in and out of there. Been to many noodle places that have quick turnaround.
We ate here for lunch on a Thursday. Service is very good. It took a little longer than we expected to get our food but the server was very nice and did a good job checking on us and making recommendations. Our group was in the mood for ramen. We enjoyed the spicy ramen, the vegetarian ramen, and the regular ramen...all were very tasty and filling. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for lunch on a cool, autumn day.
I’ve never been disappointed by a meal from this restaurant. They truly have the best vegetarian ramen I’ve ever tasted. Although I adore their cocktails I opted for a Golden State Cider which complimented my meal nicely. The ramen is packed with so much flavor and delicious goodies- I especially love the crispy tofu wedges. The ambience is chill with moderate noise. Service was adequate. I love the murals on display.
(Updated with review from my second trip): This time I ordered the spicy tantanmen. Pretty good! 7/10. Would add a Kotteri (rich) option where you add a lot more sesame paste. The broth was a bit too watery for my liking. The Chashu stands out. Everything else was good but I would really recommend adding menma (bamboo), this is pretty essential. Still would like to see the back counter be used as an express lunch area with ramen only on the menu, at more reasonable prices. 35 bucks for a ramen lunch is pretty crazy. I’d be here more often if I could walk out of here for under 20. Service was much better this time. (Original review follows) As a 20 year resident of Tokyo with 2,000 bowls of ramen slurped, I have to say I was not expecting a whole lot but I was pleased to find this to be a more than passable ramen. I ordered the Shoyu ramen with scallion topping and Sapporo noodles. (Rye noodles were the default but let’s be real that just makes it a soba. I found it ridiculous that I had to pay to switch the noodles) Soup: seafood and animal stock, probably chicken and pork. Good dashi and tare combination, making this a rich but not overwhelming soup that was very repeatable. 8/10 Noodle: the Sapporo noodle was fine. I would have preferred chijire style noodles with slightly higher water content but it had a decent chew and most importantly they didn’t overcook the noodles. 6/10 Toppings: the pork belly was the best part. Well cooked, tender, and it was a generous portion. Well done! I’d go easier on the soy and add a touch more sugar and mirin to give it a better salt to sweet ratio but it was fantastic. The egg was executed well, but nothing mind blowing. The kikurage mushrooms, while not traditional, worked. Leek could be slightly thicker cut as it lacked the presence to stand up to the chashu. Can’t believe they charge two dollars for a tablespoon of scallion. It was needed to add more punch to the anemic leek topping, but come one guys, two bucks for this is ridiculous - just throw it in the noodles and stop nickel and diming. Chashu:9/10 Rest of the toppings: 4/10 Service: nonexistent. Waited five minutes just to find a waiter so that I can pay. Do they actually expect a tip? I received my noodles over the counter from the friendly kitchen staff. I left a small tip but this further deteriorated the value factor. While there was certainly room for improvement, this was good ramen for the US and probably the best I’ve had so far. 30 dollars for a bowl of noodles plus a tip is crazy though. For 20 I’d come on the regular but the value is sadly not there to warrant more than a couple of visits a year. Thanks for the delicious bowl and hope you guys take this constructively. How about lunch specials, guys? That’d go a long way toward making a regular customer out of me. Some cold noodles (hiyashi tantanmen, anyone?) would be awesome in the warm months too.
Came here as we heard the ramen was the real deal. The noodles were cooked perfectly - al denté. Toppings were also nice and plentiful. The tonkatsu broth, however, lacked depth of flavor. Had to add a lot of togarashi spice to jazz it up. Service was very friendly. It was quite loud inside though, making conversation a bit difficult.
My husband and I recently spent a long weekend in town and decided to try this place based on our hotel’s recommendation. The atmosphere was fantastic—cozy, welcoming, and perfect for a nice meal. The service, too, was spot-on; our server was attentive and friendly. We ordered the Spicy TanTanmen, and while it had great potential, I found it a bit on the salty side. The broth wasn’t to my taste. On the flip side, the margarita was delicious and definitely a highlight of our visit. One thing that caught us off guard was the additional “health surcharge” on our bill. Has anyone else noticed this? It’s a bit unusual, and it left us feeling perplexed. Overall, while there were some hits and misses, I’d say the vibe and service made it worth checking out. Just keep an eye on the salt levels and those unexpected charges!
Poor communication when delivering the order the names were different than the items ordered. When someone requested no egg and it was delivered with egg they told them to " just take it out". We received our appetizer halfway through our main course we had to ask about it when we received our main course. Not very professional in my opinion.
Our experience here was quite terrible. There was prejudice at play. If you look a certain way, primary skin color/race, you will be treated differently. Our waiter was short and rude with his replies. It’s like he was trying to make us feel stupid for our questions about the menu or making a change to our order. A group who was light skinned came after us and received their order almost immediately. They accidentally gave my dish to that table, I understand it happens sometimes but in this case it was just annoying. After that everyone at my table received their food after an hour wait. I waited another 30 minutes for them to give me my dish. The waiter never checked on us besides bringing out the drinks/food. We had no water left for awhile, no one noticed, we had to ask for more water. After it was obvious we weren’t happy he ignored us completely and someone else came to apologize and take care of us. Food was okay, not like the BEST ramen we’ve had. But makes it taste even worse with this type of service and lowkey racism. I’m not a food or customer service snob but this just sucked.
Full disclosure. I am vegetarian so I am only rating the vegetarian ramen. They only have one option with the shiitake broth. To put it mildly, the ramen was very disappointing. Believed the hype train and followed the Michelin guide but this was underwhelming . Lacked flavors, lacked salt. I had to ask for extra spice to make it adequately palatable. They do not belong on the Michelin guide and are clearly resting on past laurels. No idea what the meat flavored broth tasted like so this review is only for vegan/vegetarian.
