China Cuisine has excellent food and service every time! This family owned restaurant has great Chinese food and American food. Grab a ribeye steak and you will not regret it.

Ribeye was bomb, but I didn't know it comes on a hot skillet plate. Next time I will order med rare. Chow mein and rice were great as well!

OK first of all Scotty is the coolest dude you’ll ever meet in Shafter!! His son and him cook the best sizzling ribeye steak you’ll have maybe in Kern county worth a try for sure!

There's only one thing you need to know RIBEYE STEAK!! Nothing else matters! Although it's such a warm place where you're treated like family and the occasional lambasting from Scottie, wouldn't trade it for anything! Love our China Cuisine in Shafter!

If you're in Kern County and looking for an incredible Ribeye Steak. China Cuisine in Shafter, California, is where it's at! I just happened to learn about this location through Bakersfields Local Restaurants' Facebook page. Someone asked, "Best local place to take someone for a birthday steak?" and this restaurant had several mentions right alongside Bakersfields usual suspects (Horse in The Alley, Hungry Hunter. KC Steakhouse); enough to stir my curiosity and justify the 30-minute drive. My steak was well over 16ozs. and was paired with garlic toast, mashed potatoes and gravy (which were pretty plain, honestly), and came with a visit to the salad bar. You do have other side options of: rice (steamed or fried) or baked potato. The steak alone is absolutely worth it, but pair the steaks au jus with the garlic toast, and you have a duo that takes all the dining senses to a new level. Hats off to the chef. I'll definitely be visiting again.

Hands down, the ribeye steak at China Cuisine in Shafter, Ca is a steak masterpiece! I've been to steak houses and restaurants where steak is what they do. But I gotta tell ya, China Cuisine in Shafter. That's right a Chinese restaurant has the best steak! The steak was very thick and cooked to absolute perfection with just the right amount of char on the outside and a juicy, tender inside. I didn't think I was going to eat all of it but every bite was flavorful and seasoned beautifully, making it impossible to put my fork down. Trust me—this steak will leave your mouth watering and have you planning your next visit before you even leave.

After talking to some friends about having to drive to downtown Bakersfield for good Chinese food, they recommended this place. To me, it’s all about the chow mein, and today I found my new favorite place. It’s in Shafter but literally a super short drive vs downtown Bakersfield. The owner told us his story and was helpful with ordering suggestions. We’ll be back for sure!

I'm no expert, but it seems rare to find a Chinese restaurant in the U.S. that follows what I perceive to be a more Cantonese philosophy where a lot of focus is put on the natural flavors of the ingredients. This is a hidden gem for sure. Also, as others have mentioned, this place is known for having the best steak in the county. If you are more in the mood for good Thai food, then head over to the little Italian place across town.

Very yummy hole in the wall place. You can taste the homemade in their food. Cooked to order can't get better than that.

Very nice friendly staff they made me feel very comfortable like I was at home. The food was great and cooked fresh. Orders are huge we had lots of leftover food.

I’d give it a 5 for quality and flavor but my orange chicken was not as crispy!!! Still very delicious food! Definitely my go to in Shafter.

We've been wanting to try china cuisine for a long time after reading all the reviews online. I picked up my grandson from school and we went for an early dinner. We got there too early for the buffet. I was craving old style chow mein with crunchy noodles which I knew was on their menu. My grandson ordered the orange chicken which comes with rice. The sauce and crispiness was wonderful. He loved the first couple of bites. But afterwards said he was having a little bit of an aftertaste, he said it wasn't bad. But he liked it, and it was a nice large serving, not greasy, nice and crispy and the sauce was very good. They gave him a very small bowl of steamed rice to go with his orange chicken. I ordered one of the individual dinners that had chow mein, fried rice and sweet and sour pork. The chow mein was delicious. Just what I was craving. The fried rice was mushy. The sweet and sour pork had a very tasty sauce on it and was nice and crispy, but the meat was very tough and dry. I didn't eat the sweet and sour pork or the fried rice. I had enough chow mein left over to take home for later. They don't serve soup before the dinner or include an egg roll, like many other chinese restaurants do. They also add a 3.50% charge if you use a card to pay. I would like to go back and try the ribeye steak which everybody raves about but the next time, for chinese food, I'll stay local.

Food was good but service is horrible. We waited to be seated and then told to seat ourselves but there was not a clean table at sight, except the one by the door on a very cold day. Was brought some food but no utensils, kept turning to get their attentuon for hot sauce and I think I pulled my neck muscles! I'll try them again in a year

I Ordered combo A to go and the noodles and rice tasted stale and were a bit flavorless, the shrimp was alright but it was also somewhat flavorless and could’ve done better with some type of sauce.
