Quaint little restaurant. Very friendly , food was good.
I happened to visit on a quiet morning. #butfirstcoffee critical!
Wonderful place great food and hospitality.
Great bakery! I had a delicious croissant!
Great place to eat good food good people I recommend this place
I love this place! Good food!
Very nice little eclectic spot for great bites. Tomato bisque was exceptional and the Blast was really a blast! The owner truly cares.
Love this place. Great food and chit chat from the staff. Highly recommend!
Really fun place for great food and conversation. If you are in the area, you should stop in. You won't regret it!
The food was very good and the gentleman working there went above and beyond to be kind to my daughter. Please give this place a try!
Got the bagel sandwich it was fresh and flavorful and the staff was friendly
It was a Fantastic lunch as Always! Tony and his crew are great! Thank you for all you do! ❤️
Exquisite food! A joy of a place! I happily drive over an hour each way to have a meal at the Black Cat.
This is a wonderful cafe, great food and a great owner.
A lovely little cafe that serves amazing food! It is a must to stop and eat here when you are in town!
I loved the thanksgiving sandwich and the almond latte was phenomenonal. What a cute, great little place!
I just loved the Cassandra club and the goat cheese Mac and cheese and it's all great prices
The desserts looked great, but I had a BLT ,best I've had , delicous.
Cozy environment... Delicious food...price was right...The service was a bit slow when I went, but they were will busy...
Love this place, I have been having breakfast here with my Mama for years and we love it.
I love this place. U always go here.
Great place, good sandwiches, everything fresh, coffee good, try the espresso!
Like this place to have lunch. Moderate priced, good quality. Give it a try
Usually see the owner when we are here, good sandwiches and a friendly staff.
Outstanding small restaurant. We loved it. The food and service was unbelievable and the atmosphere of the Cafe is very cozy and quiet. We will most certainly be back again and again.
This place is awesome! We visited Sharon Springs out of season, and I think we were the only non locals dining. The staff was great, the owner was friendly and made a point to come ask about our meal, which I love. I accidentally left my ID there- when I called and they couldn't initially find it they went out of their way to search for it, talking to me all the while and making it kind of fun, actually. We would never eat anywhere else when visiting Sharon Springs in the future
I never would have stopped here if a friend hadn't taken me. If fact, I wouldn't have even turned down the street off the main highway. The four of us had various sandwiches which were outstanding. If you want a breakfast or lunch spot worth trying, instead of the ordinary chain place, cardboard food substance, this is your place.
Such an amazing cafe! It's worth the drive for this place alone! I can't wait to return.
Stopped by while passing through (2nd time here) and love their homemade sandwiches (we had the Reuben and the grilled cheese) and matcha iced latte. Will come back to visit again!
Food was great when I went here. Had the Thanksgiving Day sandwich and the turkey and stuffing was delightful to say the least. The waitress was new so there were a few hiccups in getting our food but she was beyond kind so I totally understood. I'd gladly come back here and have the same thing again!
What an amazing place to go. Food is outstanding and so much charm. A must go to place. You will do so happy you did. The Mac & blaak to die for. My mom and sister raved about fresh roasted turkey sandwich. Very original but with a twist
Fantastic, rich, authentic experience! A muddy Sunday morning I accidentally walked in in search of coffee. I sat at an charming old table -- whispering of many owners through the century-- and had to have an old fashion doughnut: delightful! Quality and charm is in every inch of this wonderful treasure!
Atmosphere is cozy, eclectic, friendly, relaxing, inviting, artistic, etc. Tony & crew are engaging and fun. Now the food! - DELICIOUS, fresh, local, satisfying, top-of-the-line menu offerings, creative, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Black Cat Cafe will not disappoint! We travel Route 20 from Western Massachusetts to the Finger Lakes a couple times per month, and BLACK CAT CAFE is always our FIRST CHOICE to stop in for breakfast, lunch, or anytime for outstanding, gastronomical satisfaction.
Love this place, and the owner is fantastic. Had the most amazing meals. It's worth the ride to take a scenic ride to this historic village and get a bite to eat.
Black Cat has genuine, home cooked food. The French Toast is coated with cornflakes, and is very tasty. The staff is friendly, and the atmosphere is on point. I highly recommend this place.
We are purchasing a home in town and we stopped in for lunch. It was the greatest sandwich I have had in a long time.
Wonderful little cafe with delicious, wholesome food. The chicken salad on raisin bread was fabulous! Soup was excellent also!
Delicious food, vegan options amazing coffee, cat themed decor is so cute, local artwork hanging inside. Love it
So yummy! Unique flavors... homemade vinegars, dressings, bakery! Everthing offered is scrumptious! My favorite... the Lebanese Mesa Platter!
A friend came down from Sacandaga Lake, wanted to take a nice ride on a fall day and eat lunch somewhere. We visited the Black Cat Cafe! The owner is friendly, generous, and kind. Wonderful atmosphere. My friend ordered the reuben (which was a mouthful!). I wanted everything on the menu but settled for two mini quiche with side salad. So simple, but delicious. The lettuce was crunchy, the tomatoes red and sweet. I tried all three dressings: garlic, fig, (can't remember the third) balsamic. We found another couple to visit with. Even the other diners were friendly. We will definitely be back to try the salmon & cream cheese sandwich, the curried chicken salad on raisin bread, and the Thanksgiving sandwich. The owner said he had some tomato basil soup and would make us grilled cheese, which were not on the menu. Totally accommodating! We'll be back!
Delicious food and nice environment! Really nice drinks and food options
Stopped in for a lunch with my sisters. The food was delicious. I had the curried chicken sandwich! Our server, Calista was exceptional. I will be back!
Nice small cafe with a wonderful owner. Food is very good!
Super nice guy fresh coffee and delicious donuts will be back to try more
Sunday is the day my sister and I take my 88 yr old Dad out for breakfast. Haven’t been happy with our experience at a Cobleskill Diner in the past, so we decided to take a scenic drive. We googled restaurants and The Black Cat came up. We found a diamond in the rough. What a quaint little cafe that reminded us of the 50’s. Food was yummy and the owner was very accommodating. Will definitely be back.
The steak sandwich is the world's best, if available. The breakfast potatoes were great as well. Actually, all the food at our table was exceptional and unique. I found this place on-line years ago and really wanted to try it. Today I had clients that wanted to view a few homes in Sharon Springs. It was the perfect restaurant with professional table service along with quality food options, served without a long wait. If in the area, this is the premiere, go-to, breakfast and lunch. The ride to the area is beautiful. This might even make for a romantic destination spot.
We stopped at Black Cat Café on a whim for breakfast and were so glad we did. At first, the place seemed a little quiet, but we quickly realized it was just the off-season and the café sits tucked away in a small, charming town off the main road. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, the kind of place where you instantly feel at ease. The coffee was outstanding — smooth, rich, and clearly made with care — and the food was surprisingly fantastic. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, far better than we expected for a spontaneous stop. Sometimes the best meals are the unplanned ones, and this was definitely one of those.
We stopped here in the middle of a road trip because it had outdoor seating and we had our dog with us. The staff immediately brought a bowl of water out for her and treated her kindly. The food was outstanding. I had a bean soup that was delicious and an outstanding salad with gorgonzola and figs. The figs had been soaked in balsamic vinegar, so were juicy and flavorful. I didn't bother with dressing because of that. The owner came out and chatted with us for a while, making it feel even more welcoming. I expect we'll stop there again.
The Black Cat Cafe shares the vintage charm of Beekman 1802 and the rest of Sharon Springs. With a relaxing atmosphere featuring vintage tables and chairs, plentiful bistro window seating, and excellent service. As well as offers a surprisingly large and creative breakfast and lunch menu. All gourmet prepared by the owner and chef, who obviously enjoys interacting with his guests, which is extremely rare now days. We had the Wild Julia sandwich along with a bowl of homemade Tuscan bean soup and Orange Blossom Lemonades. All superbly prepared from obviously fresh ingredients. As well as enhanced by their selection of Black Cat balsamic drizzles. Our only regret is having visited Sharon Springs so many times in the past without visiting the Black Cat, assuming it might offer a limited menu and seating, which definitely wasn't the case and won't happen again. If perhaps you've done and wondered the same, definitely give them a try!
The Black Cat was a pleasant surprise. We were in Sharon Springs to do some shopping and the Black Cat was next door to where we were, so we stopped in for lunch. The decor is tastefully funky. We talked to the owner, who is somewhat of the town historian, and got a pretty expensive history of the area. The menu is small, but there was plenty to choose from. I got the Thanksgiving sandwich, and it was loaded with turkey and stuffing. My wife got a BLT which was great as well. This place is good enough that it warrants going out of the way to sample their cuisine. We will be back!
If you find yourself at the Canajoharie Exit on the New York Thruway around lunch time, exit and drive south for 15 minutes to Sharon Springs where you will find the Black Cat Cafe and Bakery. Treat yourself to the daily homemade soup or fresh green salad with figgy balsamic vinegar and one of the eclectic sandwiches that have been perfected by the owner/host, Tony, over many years. The picture shows 1/2 of the Thanksgiving Everyday sandwich to the left and 1/2 of the Reuben sandwich to the right. The turkey is roasted on site and comes with delicious homemade cranberry sauce and stuffing, and the corned beef is the leanest and most delicious I've had in a long time. It is also possible to order boxed lunches delivered to the Glimmerglass Theater in Cooperstown. We've always enjoyed these meals when attending performances there. After lunch enjoy browsing nearby shops, including the Beekman 1802 Mercantile. POST-PANDEMIC UPDATE-1: The Thanksgiving Everyday Sandwich is just as good as ever and it's just as much fun catching up on the news with Tony as you enjoy your lunch in his unique cafe and bakery.
We stopped by here for lunch. It was my spouse and I, and our son. Immediately the staff and owner made us feel welcome. We ordered quiche, thanksgiving everyday, and goat cheese Mac and cheese. Everything was fantastic, some of the best I've ever had. You should definitely check this place out. You will not regret it. Excellent.
Having fun in Sharon Springs. This is one of very few places to eat and fortunately a very good place to eat! Good selection and great desserts.
This is a lovely cafe with fresh homemade and locally sourced food. I love sitting outside and enjoying lunch in this eclectic setting.
Friendly owner and service. Cute place for a snack and a break while exploring the town.

Friendly owner and service. Cute place for a snack and a break while exploring the town.
My friend and I stopped in for lunch after visiting Slate Hill lavender farm. Very friendly staff and comfortable space. We shared the delicious mini meza with wonderful hummus and gigandes beans and we each had carrot soup. My friend had the gorgo salad (balsamic figs were nice) and I had Wild Julia grilled cheese without bacon. The cheese wasn't really melted but the pepita seeds and hot sauce made it unique and tasty. We also got some dessert to go. Really lovely lunch. I look forward to returning.
Such a hidden gem in the Sharon Springs area. It’s on what felt like a side street but more like home. The space is cozy and warm even on a cold, rainy day. I was headed to VT and stopped for a quick bite to eat. The hot cup of tea did wonders for my soul as did the conversation with Tony. Such a wonderful host. Food is fresh and tasty. Cookies are wonderfullll! Will absolutely stop in again if I’m out that way. Cheers!
I was looking for an oat mylk chai latte that wasn’t corporate (like Dunkin which I find unpalatable). This place is charming! I had the corned beef reuben which was so fresh and homestyle that it felt like I was at my grandfather’s in homemade QUALITY. I love the options they offer. They seemed to get backed up with just 5 individuals separately dining, so don’t come for food if you’re impatient..but it’s definitely worth the wait.
This little place with old wood floors that creak into a calming harmony as you shuffle to your table is out of this world. It's not your typical upstate New York dining experience. The food is great. The service is personable. The menu has flair. The space is small and charming. We parked in the back and as we walked up the steps the smell of goodness hit us. We were all excited to see what they had to offer and no one left hungry or disappointed. It is more expensive for the area than other options but it was worth it for local fresh wholesome ingredients mixed up in an elevated brunch experience. I will be dreaming of the quiches and assorted pastries until I make it back to this little slice of transformative dining in the area.
Very nice atmosphere and great food. The owner was very friendly. We came when it was closed (the snow had to be shoveled first), but he let us in to order and apologized for not having everything on the menu ready. The food was delicious nonetheless.
I had the pleasure of visiting the Black Cat Café, and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The food was incredibly fresh and full of flavor—you can tell they put real care into every dish. From the first bite to the last, everything was delicious. The real standout, though, was the outstanding service. The staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive without being overbearing. You don’t always find that kind of hospitality, and it made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Whether you’re passing through town or staying a while, don’t miss this spot. A perfect mix of great food and great people—I’ll definitely be back!
Sitting here a month later, using some of our Black Cat Garlic Balsamic and remembering how great this cafe was. It was an amazing lunch and I wish I lived closer-- get the Thanksgiving Everyday and grab a bottle of the balsamic for the road!
Our family discovered this place on a day trip to the area. Incredible hospitality with amazing food! It was a real treat.
I'm not a big fan of donuts but the one I got here was so good I'll have to come back. My partner got a chocolate croissant and loved it too. The coffee was good, but the desserts are the real star of the show. Also the owner and cashier both were very polite and helpful! Thank you so much
Stopped here with a friend for a bite, and will have to come back next time in the area. We ended up talking with the owner for nearly an hour on the business itself, food, gardening, our cats, and everything in between. The space, hospitality and food were all amazing. Highly recommend!

Excellent food. Need to change up the food choices a bit.
Funky coffee house with salads and muffins. Recommended.!
I like this cafe a lot. I've been here once before. Their food is still very good and still handmade. I recommend it if you can stop by.
Great unique foods. Great service, love the inviroment. I had carrot ginger soup turkey sandwich and a latte. Was delish!
REAL FOOD in a vintage no frills ambience. It's comforting to discover. in a slick world of fancy pants eateries.
We have been going to the Black Cat since it opened. Everything is good but especially enjoy the soups and baked goods.
Super cute cafe, really enjoyed my lunch date here.
Average food quick service. Pricey for a lunch place. Overly cozy seating
Cute and cosy, food good. A little salad on the side would be nice addition.presentation so,so
Stopped in while visiting the area for quick lunch today. Decor is wonderfully funky, menu is small and limited. My friend and I both got the special - a grilled cheese with hot sauce and bacon. Was delicious. The cookies were got for dessert were also delicious (and massive). Service was pretty quick.
Great little place, but please know that reservations are required for parties of 4 or more. So, if you have even a small family, don't just stop. Call ahead. It is not on the website, only on the scanned menu.
Stopped here for breakfast about a month ago when visiting the area. I can't really comment on the food since I only had a simple breakfast sandwich, but it's a charming cafe with friendly service. The rain pouring down contributed to the aesthetic. Coffee was good.
Food was quite good, though some in my party didn't care for the soup. Eat outside. Proprietor is engaging and successful, but came off as rude to his staff.
Enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner sandwich. Haven't been there for some years, but l still have my Bl Cat Cafe hoodie!
Cute, good food. Chairs were a bit wonky. Had to switch mine for one that didn't have nails sticking up from the seat. Otherwise, very good.
Quaint friendly little cafe. Only suggestion is they should offer chips or pickles with their sandwiches. Otherwise the BLT was good and so was the coffee.
Food was good, service was alittle slow but overall good place
The sandwiches have alwsys been delicious, but 3 times in a row we bought baked good, such as croissants to go and they were stale.
An odd place. Food was quirky, although one us enjoyed the Thanksgiving sandwich. The grilled cheese had saugy bacon, some type of seeds and a lot of hot sauce on it. Wait staff was inexperienced and unorganized.
It is a very charming cafe. Food was good. Staff was not attentive and pretty erratic. For the prices the presentation left a great deal to be desired. Three of us ordered sandwiches that were unceremoniously placed in front of the wrong people... plated were... the sandwiches. No sides, no 'pretty' ... just sandwiches. Order taken by owner who was completely distracted while we were ordering. Watched as a couple near us got their order in increments and, once again, plopped on the table as the waitress immediately fled. For a $40 plus bill this was a somewhat unsatisfying lunch at a venue that COULD have been 90% better. We will NOT be recommending this place to any of our friends. We also ordered iced teas .. at $3 a pop....maybe 5 tiny ice cubes and drinks were pretty much room temperature.
Pros..Beautiful atmosphere love the decor and the warmth of this place..the own was so nice he came over to the table and made small talk with us..i really enjoyed that...cons...I got a freezing cold muffin😔😔😔 it was at least 2 days old but the worst part about this is that they didnt even warm it up before they served it...that has never happened before!

Stopped for a sandwich at lunch time the staff was great. The sandwich was good but all you get is a sandwich no pickle no chips nothing and the price was outrageous I probably won't be returning
Atmosphere and service were good, but the food was disappointing. Corned beef sandwich was no comparison to a favorite from a Schenectady deli. Cider donuts were hard, bitter, and bone-dry. Plus actual dirt in a salad's poorly rinsed lettuce. Shame because the place was charming.
I thought the food was so so for the price. My french toast barely touched the egg dip, in fact one side did not. 1and 1/2 slices of bread sprinkled with cornflakes to me is not worth 10$. Breakfast choices were very limited. Cute place... city prices.
Was just okay. Small portion and not enough vegan options.
Nothing special about the food Place was not clean Won't go back
Visited this location 2 times, both experiences were bad. The owneris rude and since we were poets during one visit, it was like he didnt want us to be there. He was rude to his help too.
Beware the Fig-Balsamic Truffles. I bought some at their stand at the Cooperstown Farmers Market. First of all, please price your items. I picked these up to look at them and the woman said, "That'll be $13." Well, I didn't feel like I could put them back down, so I shelled out 13 hard-earned dollars for the box of four and prayed they were as delicious as they sounded. Well, they are not. Far from it. The balsamic used is not a sweet, aged variety. It is sharp and totally overwhelms. You wouldn't know there was chocolate or fig in these. They would be better suited as a topping for a green salad than as a dessert. But who wants a $13 crouton?
A disappointment, limited menu. Poor service, got nothing with a sandwhic h that arrived 10 minutes after everyone else got their lunch. It was terrible. I was expecting a cold turkey sandwich it was hot and greasy. Owner was a talker.ugg we couldn't wait for him to leave us alone.
