Mario's Bar & Grill

We went here on a Friday in January. It was karaoke night and it was so fun. A lot of locals and a really nice vibe. We had some food as well, really delicious smash burger and a Greek inspired souvlaki with chicken. All home made.

The bar was newly renovated by Amy and her boyfriend, and her choice of decor created the cutest and coolest little setting. And there was a local playing live music the night we went there. Amy (also the bartender and a former chef in Portland) helped me pick out two drinks I really enjoyed and garnished them with a fresh edible flower from a vase - that was so cool. The food was delicious - really small menu that changes each day but we had fish and chips with local rockfish and a smashburger, and you could tell the fries were entirely homemade and just perfect. Such a fun evening and we were especially grateful for Amy writing down 10 more cool restaurants for us to visit on our road trip north (she used to be a head chef of a restaurant in Portland).

Outstanding bar. Great comfy vibe. Delicious cocktails. Unparalleled ocean views. Occasional sea lion chorus. The friendliest, coolest, nicest staff. No, I don’t have any vested interest in this establishment and I don’t know anyone who works here. My wife and I stayed in Shelter Cove a couple of nights and we went here for several hours this evening and had the BEST time! Five stars. Highly recommended.

My husband and I spent a night in shelter cove and went to Mario’s for dinner and a beer. The owner is so personable and has monthly rotating chefs. We had Chef Mama Mo’s rockfish sandwich, blackened rockfish tacos with fried flour tortillas, and loaded fries. The decor is really, really thoughtful and well done. Would recommend this gem to anyone!

A bar program that actually rules in the middle of nowhere?! Best Patio on the whole coast of California to rip cigs? Food and guest kitchen pop ups?!? German friendly and coolest bartender in Humboldt. Will be back.

I remember my first time going to Mario's because I'd never seen a nicer view anywhere. The interior decoration is adorable, and the mixed drinks are exquisite. Lots of space. A romantic getaway but also a great meet up spot for friends. Many food options.

Definitely the best bar i’ve ever been to in Humboldt and possibly the best bar i’ve ever been too. I come out to the cove semi regularly and this is the place I’ll always go to. They have a wide variety of beverages alcoholic and non. They put little flowers in the drinks. The food has routinely amazed me. Last time I was there I got an amazing Chicken sandwich. Ive also had Lumpia there, sushi, picked vegetables. Honestly it’s a great bar.

Mario’s in Shelter Cove is exactly what every small town needs—a no-frills, good-vibes bar where the locals are welcoming and the energy is real. It’s not trying to be fancy, and that’s what makes it perfect. Cold drinks, solid food, and karaoke nights that turn into something unforgettable. There’s a beautiful simplicity in a place where you can laugh, sing badly, and feel like you belong. Mario’s gets it right. Five stars for the heart and soul.

This is a must stop on my list when I visit family. Great food, drinks, and the owners are wonderful. Go out back and see the views and play a round of corn hole. They offered a wonderful, fairly priced brunch this Memorial Day morning. We had Shrimp and Grits, and the Country Breakfast with coffee. Service and view were WOW!

I came Upon the bar kind of by accident, kind of by necessity and it was one of the best random occurrences. Amazing view, and delicious food but really there is something magical about it as a place. I felt like I had stumbled into a place I was meant to be. I would highly recommend for any wayward traveler or intentional visit. And if you get a drink made by the proprietress you are as lucky as they come.

Great place, I flew in to hike the lost coast trail with only 8 wooden kitchen matches. The nice lady behind the bar lent me a lighter for the hike from Matole to Black Sands! Thanks Lady! Also best brownie I ever had.

I love the local dive bar feel and was excited to try Mario's. I was following them on Instagram and saw the new menu posted in advance. The atmosphere wasn't very welcoming. We were obviously the only patrons that were not local. The food was good, but the portions were small. We ended up having to eat on a sofa.

The fish and chips were good but not great. The beer batter was too soggy with oil but the fish itself was delicious and cooked well. The fries were also very good but I had to get up twice to get ketchup since their bottles were almost all empty. I did non try the drinks so I cannot review them but it seems like a great place for drinks! A lot of people told me they enjoy them. The ambience is great with a mix of options for the kind of setting you want to have your meal in.. however the food is paramount so I can’t give a full 5 stars not try the drinks so I cannot review them but it seems
