Mel's raised prices, like everyone else had to. The difference is, they upped their game to match the increase. This is a very underrated restaurant with the rare cooks thst can really cook. If I didn't know better, I would think we were in Mexico, judging by the food. (That's a huge compliment coming from me)

I'm an overseas tourist here on business and I was taken here by a group of colleagues. The service here was was exceptional. Friendly, courteous and attentive without going overboard. Stand out dish for me, the pineapple chicken hard shell taco. Would definitely recommend Mels as a place to stop and eat.

This particular Mels left my family with a customer service experience worth 6 stars. The waiter Chris and the busser (didn't catch his name) were beyond excellent. They were charming, funny, and genuinely friendly. Both were attentive to my kids, and every detail of our order right; Chris was even generous with requested extras. The food itself was standard American Diner style fare, but better than I remembered. Nothing looked or tasted like it had been refrigerated at any point, and the portion sizes were quite fair. Even though seating was space out due to COVID-19 restrictions, every table seemed to be having a quality time, and my family was no exception. Would visit again! Unfortunately, I didn't think to take photos until after the meal was done. P.S. The Espresso shake with cherries was very, very good. Perfect balance of being thick but not too thick, sweet but not cloyingly so, and the ground espresso beans brought both flavor and a delightful element to the mouth feel (don't lie, that's a big part of milkshakes).

I love old school diners and Mel's Drive-In is one that would take you back in time. Great music from the 50s playing on the jukebox and excellent food I strongly recommend it.

The food here was very good, I am not the biggest fan of breakfast so kept it simple with an omelette but I really enjoyed this and was surprised by how nice it was. The decor was really cool and fun to see everything, the service was decent - not particularly friendly but nice enough.

Great food and service. Upgrade your breakfast and casual dining. My friend visiting from San Diego wanted to dine at a popular chain. I refused. I’m not a diner girl but this place was awesome. Fresh squeezed orange juice. My little guy order fried chicken and potato salad. I ate classic 2 eggs, bacon and crispy hash browns. We loved it all. My friend loved his steak. Our server Julie was fabulous and helpful. I’m definitely going back to try the burger and potpie.

As a fan of the long ago show, One Day at a Time, I tend to eat at Mel's whenever I'm in the neighborhood. The day before yesterday was one of those days. The service was efficient and friendly, and the food, organic and delicious. I had the 4 cheese grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread. It was delicious, but it could have been better if the chef had used port wine cheddar instead of ordinary cheddar cheese. Chef, please email me when you make the suggested change in the recipe for grilled cheese sandwiches. I'll come back and re-review the grilled cheese sandwich. I also had a cup of meatball soup. It was outstanding. There's free parking and outdoor seating with a peaked canvas roof. It's entirely open on all four sides, an ideal arrangement during a pandemic. This restaurant is accessible to differently abled patrons. If you're in Sherman Oaks at mealtime, I recommend Mel's Drive-in on Ventura Blvd.

This Mel's location is about as good as it gets. First off the place is clean and well managed. Staff is attentive and on top of it. You might go to another Mel's in LA and feel like you're a cancer cell looking for a favor, not here!!! Good food, quality people who give a crap! It works every time!

Love this place and its early schedule - a great breakfast available at 06:00, commuting in early from the Inland Empire. Timmy, the ever-present morning shift host, has worked at this location since it opened in September of 1989!

Love Mels drive in style, a must stop to eat in LA. Deserts and shakes are definitely worth it, love the vintage and retro coin machine juke boxes! Don’t recommend the turkey plate that I took the last time as it was not as great and a bit filthy with a bunch of sauce-cheese or something but yeah! Cool visit on our day off, will visit soon.

I've been coming here since the 90s. Bought lunch for three last Thursday. Rost beef sandwich, two patty melts. The total was over $89.00. One person ordered a Root beer. It was $5.50 ! It's too pricey. Every time I come in, the menus are changed . I'm not crazy about what you omitted and then replaced it with. It even looks like the music selectors at each table are new. The problem is you keep raising the prices so often that a lot of the old regular customers are deciding not to continue coming here. Too bad, because I always enjoyed the food and it used to be affordable! Even though we're in Sherman Oaks, this ISN'T West Hollywood ! They were always high priced and in with all the latest fads in food !

Mel’s is a dinner, the food very good if you go in with that in mind. The milkshakes are fantastic, the kids love them. The atmosphere and nostalgia are A+ I have had only good service and experiences at the Sherman Oaks location. If you love dinners you’ll love Mel’s.

The best part of this place is they have the most amazing waitress, i love her, don't know her name. She makes me want to go back everytime, super nice lady. They have great breakfast and coffee. Outdoor and indoor area.

I ordered the Short Rib slider it was yummy. It came with Creamy Tomatoe Basil Soup and it was delicious! My bf ordered the Eggcellent Breakfast Sandwich with fries and get loved it. His daughter ordered the Sunrise breakfast sandwich in which she loved too. It came with seasoned potatoes. The portions were great. We had left orders to take home. The place is super cute & clean. She's so nice & has the brightest smile. My boyfriend and I were dining and this younger couple could not pay for their food. For some odd reason their card would not going through. I'm noisy so I was kind of listening. The manager did his best to try and work it out with the young couple discreetly. Needless to say, my bf and I paid for their food and let them know so they could stop stressing out. The only reason why im telling this story is because the manager was so nice & I love that! He cares enough to be discreet & help the young couple. I love the positivity.

We had a fantastic brunch at Mel’s Diner! My 12-year-old son loved the experience. We ordered the Denver omelette, loaded with mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, and cheese—every bite was delicious. My son got a Belgian waffle that was perfectly cooked, and he enjoyed it thoroughly. One of the highlights was having our own jukebox at the table, where we could play a great mix of songs from the ’50s, ’60s, ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. It really added to the fun and nostalgic atmosphere. And a special shoutout to our waitress, Dalia, for her wonderful customer service—she made our meal even more enjoyable. Highly recommend!

This place was awesome!! I came here on graduation Day June 9th, 2020!! Class of 2020! The food was amazing, I got the original Mel’s Burger and Nachos!! The waitress I had was very nice, she got me graduation balloons🎈She goes to a sister school of mine! I meant to tag her on Instagram but I can’t remember if her name was spelled Zeraiza or not. She was very nice an professional and nice. I want to thank her so much again! With COVID going on and all, she made my day that day!! I will be visiting again soon 💖

Food was delicious. If you are vegan they have a vegan milkshake any flavor. My friend ordered a impossible Burger and fries she loved it. I order the Santa Fe chicken salad with chipotle dressing it was delicious. I had to travel 1hour to have lunch here it was well worth the drive. Beautiful restaurant. Very iconic.

Passed by this place thousands of times I’ve the past decade and never stopped by. I’m happy that I finally did stop! Ordered the Patty Melt with curly fries! It tasted great and fries with ranch really hit the spot! The staff are super friendly and the pictures on the wall and music box at each table gives it a very old school vibe that you used to see in the movies. Place is also kid friendly and they have drawings and coloring pencils for kids. Since the COVID they added an outside seating area which is really nice if the weather is not too hot. I just have to mention the niceness of the staff! They come and actually have a conversation with you unlike most places that the waitress just brings the food and runs off to the next table.

We've been here a few times, but finally remembering to post a review this time! We sat outside on the patio this past visit because we brought our dog along with us. The outside patio was a cute little space with heaters. The food was delicious as always, and staff were very friendly. The server even told us about his childhood dog so it was a nice connection. I recommend eating inside when you can though because it's a cool old school vibe. Also, the hot chocolate was amazing and a lot bigger than expected!

Our first time coming to this diner and we love it! The warmth of the staff was a reminiscent of the 60s diners vibe. There are mat choices of food and it was good. As it is on Ventura Blvd so parking can be a little challenging despite the little parking in the back. And of course the vibe of the diner was vibrant.. we will be back.

I sometimes come here for breakfast on the weekend mornings because I find this place truly relaxing. It has that “oldie” atmosphere which good, quiet music is a part of and the food seems to be made with better ingredients than most other places. Also, there are organic options for some things so that’s another place. A special shoutout to Ramiro for the consistent, excellent service that he’s been providing every time I come here!

Decided to try out this neighborhood place, finally, and I'm really glad I did. Got up early and decided to go out for breakfast, thought I'd try Mel's. It was early, before 7am, when I arrived on a Friday so it was quiet. It smelled really good as I walked in, so my taste buds were already waking up. Was helped and seated immediately, and after a quick perusal of the menu I chose the Bomb Breakfast Burrito with grilled potatoes, absolutely delicious! The accompanying coffee was also some of the best I've had in a diner. I will be making this a regular spot, highly recommended.

So honest time. Only reason I found or even knew about this place was due to the fact it came up on an episode of the Golden Bachelor. And I said to myself that reminds me of an old Diner I used to visit when I was a kid. The location we went to on our to our Thursday Night Football Game was in Sherman Oaks on Ventura. The place looks like it was one of their first locations, your greeted right away the moment you walk in and everyone is dressed like the 1920’s. They have something for everyone’s indulgences. I got one of their burgers on grilled sourdough and their crisp fries with a side of ranch. Everything was perfect! I enjoyed every minute of it and I’m sure you will too.

What’s not like an amazing old school diner? I ordered home-made corn beef hash and two eggs over easy with hashbrowns and endless coffee sour dough toast unfortunately not in the photo. Please forgive me it was early hence the pace was very quiet. I also had a hangover helper juice would highly recommend this place to anybody And the staff were amazingly nice. Will definitely come back tomorrow morning.

this is one of my favorite mels in the los angeles area. it is always super easy to get a seat no matter what time it is! our server was chris and he was so fantastic. he was super sweet and funny and had amazing service. his attitude was the top of the cake! he made sure we had everything set and the food was delicious!!! he also taught us a little history facts too 😊🩷 he was amazing!!!! i had an awesome time, thank you all!

Mel's Drive-In is the perfect spot for a classic American diner experience! Their brunch is delicious, with fresh produce and perfectly cooked eggs. The juices and smoothies are fresh and yummy. I could feel the strong ginger in one of them. I saw a lot of family dining here. A great spot for brunch with family and friends! Parking in the back although space is quite limited.

I tried coming here before and there wasn't any parking on the lot so I left. This time I came on a Wednesday night with my kiddo and there was plenty of parking. The place is really cute as it tries to keep the old school diner atmosphere. But on the other hand the food isn't old school, kinda a little higher end than your traditional diner. Prices for dishes range from about $18 and up which is high for a diner. I got the patty melt. It was cool. Had great flavor just wasn't as melted as I would like. Got my daughter the kids breakfast. She like the French toast. I actually tried her French toast and I was rather tasty and had good flavor. The "adult" meals were pretty expensive but the kids meals were really reasonable like $5 or less. So great place to bring small kids for the price. We also shared a milkshake. Pretty good milk shake too and the give you a lot. Overall, cool place to come if you're in the valley. I would come back just not too often.

I ordered the homemade corned beef hash expecting hash. It was a grilled Pattie (like a hamburger Pattie) except corned beef. Not what I was expecting. It just flaked apart once I moved it with my fork. I’ve had sliced corned beef and eggs before but they let me know that’s what it was. Just wanted some hash.

Food is good but not remarkable. Cute diner and friendly/attentive wait staff. If I was hungry and happen to be passing by, sure I’d eat there again. Otherwise, wouldn’t make the drive to seek it out.

Classic diner experience. Just like American Graffiti. The mushroom omelette was great. Nicely done with onions and green peppers. It came with grill potatoes which were tastey slightly peppered and cooked just right. Mom smiled as we left the restaurant in the blue eyed girl mustang.

I took my date to eat a quick breakfast, and we were surprised with our orders... We ended up staying longer than expected. During our stay, the staff were friendly and attentive with my coffee mug. :) The environment was energetic, and customers were eating and enjoying their conversation. Came here for the first time last week and it was great! I always drove by it I was in the area but I finally stopped in and got some food and it was great! My fiance had the biscuits and gravy and said those were better than another place we went to that claimed they had the best biscuits and gravy in LA.

It’s a solid restaurant to enjoy American classic diner style eat out. Good for casual gathering with local friends in the Sunday mornings. But if you take your international, non-American friends to there, they’d love the experience for sure. Classic burgers and shakes with the jukebox.. That’s what they’d love to taste. Wish this place opens 24 hours.

I ordered Chili Cheese Fries as an appetizer and ordered the short rib Grilled Cheese sandwich. My partner ordered the Mel's Cheeseburger. The food was pretty delicious. It was fresh, fries were crispy and so was the grilled cheese bread. It was busy so there was a wait but nothing too bad. You can listen to the music playing in the background while you wait! I love the ambience of this place. It just makes you happy. Recommended.

Really tasty breakfast food. It was on the pricier side but the meals were very filling. I loved the retro diner vibe of the restaurant. Our server was very sweet and knowledgeable about the (very extensive) menu but they seemed to be a little understaffed, it was a bit difficult to wave someone down to get the check after we were finished. This place is great!! Came here to eat dinner on a Friday evening and it was a relatively pleasant experience. The food was tasty, I ordered the clam chowder with chicken tenders. The clam chowder was very delicious, and the tenders were good but a little bit hard to chew and more on the bland side. The vibe of this restaurant is what really stood out - perfect old school, vintage style diner. Their amazing shakes here are also something positive to consider. Will definitely come here again, the location of this restaurant is also very convenient.

I can't remember why we were in the area but we needed a bathroom and food so I brought my child here. Nice aesthetics and jukebox in each booth. There were a lot of choices on the menu. Caesar salad was huge and good. I got something with red meat and it turned into two meals that day so the portions are large. Parking limited but available. We rarely eat out in restaurants anymore but this was a good spot and not too unaffordable. Everything in California is overpriced now but this diner had prices comparable to other diners so it was fine. I enjoyed the aesthetics (autographs and photos on the wall) but my kid had no idea who any of these people were. Wolfman Jack, etc, plus Marilyn & Elvis, etc.

I ordered the New York Steak & Eggs also wanted it to be Medium Rare. But cutting it open it looks like the steak is still mooing.

The service was wonderful. The food was only so so. My ham and cheese omelet was very dry. The burgers were good but the fries were very hard. They have impossible burgers which is very nice.

Probably the most mediocre burger I've ever had, had absolutely no flavor, had to order chilis just to be able to taste something. The wait to be sit was long for no reason (I was alone) and everything is overpriced. Feels like your paying for the nostalgia more than anything..

A mixed​ bag... It's far more expensive than the portions and quality warrant, and that alone would be enough disincentive for a return visit. Despite that, I'm tempted to give 4 🌟 s based entirely on the outstanding service. Jessica was so accommodating and imperturbable. She comes across like a genuinely kind lady. This place is lucky to have her.

Rating this dive 3/5 because I was disappointed in the cleanliness. The concept is awesome, the servers were friendly, the food was fair. Not like how it used to be. Please keep this place up. Start with a deep clean and a new bathroom. You can afford to make some changes. I mean it's a cool place shame it's so dirty. Made me very sad.

Hello hungry Valley peeps! Lets get straight to the point. Judging on pricing to taste. The food is mediocre. Possibly even a little over priced. We got the “Famous Mel Burger” with a side of sweet potato fries and some mozzarella sticks. The taste of the burger was nothing special and a bit overcooked. Much like McDonalds, this patty was mostly likely frozen along with the fries. There is no doubt that the mozzarella sticks were frozen as they came hard as a rock, greasy, and looked far from fresh. The shake is probably the best thing on the menu and the silverware is a tad bit old. I would say the unique experience of the restaurant does somewhat make up for the lack of food quality, as it does have a nice 50’s vibe with it’s own radio filled with classics on each booth. The food server was very helpful considering the lack of help in the restaurant. The restaurant did refund us the Mozzarella Sticks as the server noticed that we did not enjoy them at all. Overall we would this Restaurant a decent 5/10. Thank you and stay hungry :D

Service was good, atmosphere was great—it's Mel's, that's the value proposition here—and the food was reasonably good; but shrinkflation has definitely arrived in the form of a minuscule BLT and majuscule prices on everything, with nothing much in the way of cheaper items. (It's Mel's, that's the value proposition here.) Heck, the menu is printed in like 8-point font so they can cram it onto a bifold for some reason. It was nice to give my kid the Mel's experience, but I'm not hurrying back.

Pretty good diner, though a little too busy with not enough folks working there, so the service was lacking. They have outdoor seating with space heaters. The heater doesn't do that good of a job warming up the area though - we were kinda cold throughout lunch. Ordered a few things at the table. I tried the curly fries, pancakes, and the Mel's Patty Melt. The Patty Melt is super oily, but the meat was good and had plenty of sauteed onions inside. Pancakes were decent and curly fries were good. Coffee was just ok, even for a diner. Overall, pretty good food, but could hire some more people.

First time coming ordered chilli cheese fries, Mel's burger, chicken tenders and Mac and cheese for the cost food was disappointing. Great place to see for it's history and vintage table jukeboxes.

My husband and I came in here and had the males a Patty melts unfortunately it wasn't all that satisfying I don't know it just didn't taste the same and a lot of other customers that were there this afternoon also said the same thing that the food really has changed the quantity and the quality I don't know if it's the way you prepare food or what but the food really didn't taste all that great the waitress you really try to work hard with us and trying to make it right but I'm not going to eat here again it's not like it used to be 4 or 5 years ago the food was really yummy and delicious I'm only giving a two-star for the food the atmosphere and the service was somewhat okay

This was our first time visiting Mel's for our date night! Food was pretty good and came out quick. Most memorable part about our time here was the server...Rosey. She couldn't care less about us, only came when it was time to take our order or bring us food never to check in and see how things were going if we needed anything. And when she did, no enthusiasm or slight smile..just plopped everything onto the table. However we did see her servicing and communicating with others better, the white people.

I had a very unpleasant experience at Mel’s Diner that left me feeling embarrassed and upset. From the moment I arrived, I felt unwelcome. The manager and another staff member whispered, snickered, and made disparaging looks and remarks toward me. It was incredibly unprofessional and made me feel judged and uncomfortable. On top of that, the waitress harassed and finessed me into signing up for an email listing, promising I’d receive free ice cream as a reward. However, when the bill came, I was told I would be charged for the ice cream and that they’d remove the charge and then recharge me again. It was such a complicated and confusing situation that left me frustrated. Honestly, I could’ve just gone to the store and bought my own ice cream without the headache and stress this caused me. As for the food, it was just average—nothing above or below expectations. It was edible and decent but not remarkable. I had the turkey dinner, which was a good portion, and the chicken wings, which were cooked very crispy. I was so embarrassed with how I was treated that I walked out of the restaurant upset and furious. It was not a great situation, and based on my experience, I cannot recommend anyone to visit.

My friend and I went here and are both sick now. We ate the jalapeño burgers, fries, and shakes… I’ve gone to other locations and haven’t had an issue. It may be the location or an ingredient that was expired or contaminated. Love Mel’s, but no food is worth this pain 😭

Went on a breakfast with an old friend because she recommended the place. Ordered chicken and waffles and the chicken tasted like straight fish oil or something 🤢 but it had a fishy taste completely killed my appetite. Other than that good atmosphere but this jukeboxes sometimes scam you and don't play a song either, do better.

I went to Mel’s on a Friday night, super excited to be there since I haven’t been in forever. We were greeted by a woman with long blonde hair. She was not friendly at all. I’ve been in the food industry so I understand maybe they weren’t staffed well or perhaps they were just overwhelmed. I get it all. My sister asked for a new drink since hers was flat and she didn’t really hear us she just quickly said “ I’ll take it off the bill then” with an aggressive tone. Then after she walked away, turned back and made a crazy face at us. I don’t know if she was racist but many other people got their food A LOT quicker than we did. She hardly asked if we needed water or anything. When she did she did it as she was walking away from us. She walked by me , stared at me for a moment and gave me a dirty look. I don’t know what her deal is maybe she needs a different job. Food was good but her energy and attitude were horrible.

Visit 6/18/23 Food was nasty. I’m a foodie and I wanted to try this location because it’s in my neighborhood. When I walked in there was a smell, I ignored it but was still skeptical. Some seats had stains, so I moved to another booth and ordered the garlic fries. The fries were basically store brand bag fries with a few pieces of cheese on them and they had rotten potatoes which I hate! So I ordered the free range country egg’s breakfast🤦🏽‍♀️my eggs were runny, potatoes over seasoned and undercooked the bacon was burnt. I ended up leaving and not paying for anything because I didn’t eat it. I’ll stick to the Hollywood location.
