We visited here 5 years ago and sat in the courtyard. I was impressed with the food and ambiance. This time we sat indoor and it was beautifully decorated. Super glad they the food maintained the same quality. Chicken and vegetables were both excellent. My husband loved the steak too. Portion was big and we only ordered entrees and didn’t order any appetizers. Def the best restaurant in Solvang.
My wife and I went here last night for our 21st anniversary dinner and it was absolutely perfect. Our server was super kind and explained the menu to us. We started with the seasonal salad, which was spinach with some roasted beets and figs and pistachios. It was super good for our main entrée. My wife went with the salmon and I went with the steak Fritos. Our server told us that the duck fries were legendary and he was not incorrect. We really enjoyed our meal here and we ended it by getting the caramel crème brûlée. The service was great and we really enjoyed this place. If you’re interested in coming here I would definitely put this on your list.
The service was great and the food was full of taste and flavor. Next time we go back to Solving we definitely will be eating here. We had breakfast we plan on having dinner next time we come back. A must eat place!!
Tried this place for the first time and it wasn’t disappointed. Love their outdoor terrace and its dog friendly restaurant. From the patio I can see like a little area where there are seats and fire pits for you to drink wine and chill. Their calamari dish was so crunchy and flavorful as well as my salmon poke dish. Short rib and cheesecake were very good as well. I wouldn’t mind coming back when I visit this town again.
Had the salmon on my 1st visit and it was very good. The short rib is also very good and tender. Service was great and I would def b back. Blood orange drink was good but not strong.
Everything was great. We had the short rib, watermelon salad, green olives, and the soup of the day, which turned out to be cheeseburger soup. Surprisingly, it was really good. It even came with its own potato chips on top, which made it even more fun. The food was fresh and well-balanced, and the service matched the quality. Nothing felt overdone or fussy, just solid flavors in a nice setting. If you’re in Solvang and want a reliable, well-executed meal, Mad & Vin is a great choice. Also, get the soup if it’s cheeseburger day. Seriously!
Terrific restaurant that we enjoyed a couples birthday celebration. Farm to table quality food, with a creative flair. Similar to restaurants you'd find in Copenhagen. Ample wine and beverage selection. Surprisingly large portion for entrée. Delicious and fun deserts. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive. The price is reasonable for such a nice setting and great food.
We really enjoyed their food and drinks. They have a daily happy hour deal from 4-6pm ($4 off bar menu, $3 off wine and cocktails, and $2 off draft beer). We ordered some calamari and duck fat fries along with some beer and cocktails. I loved their jalapeño cocktail called “lava lamp”. The atmosphere was great and very welcoming. They had open seating anywhere outside. You do have to order with them inside but they’ll bring it out to you once ready.
My boyfriend and I celebrated his birthday here, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. We started with the calamari and two mixed drinks. The calamari was perfectly cooked and served with jalapeños, onions, and lemon slices that added a bright, flavorful kick to the dish. For drinks, we tried the Mad Captain—smooth and flavorful—and the Blood Orange Sour, which was even better, with a bold, citrusy finish we loved. For our main course, we ordered the Braised Short Ribs and the Filet. The short ribs were incredibly tender and full of flavor. While the filet was cooked slightly more than we requested, it was still tender and very enjoyable. To finish off the evening, we shared the Butterscotch Crème Brûlée. Our server made the moment special by adding a birthday candle and singing Happy Birthday—such a thoughtful touch. The dessert was just as impressive as the rest of the meal: rich, creamy, and perfectly caramelized. The staff were warm, attentive, and made sure every detail was taken care of. The ambiance was romantic and inviting, making it the perfect spot for a birthday celebration.
A local spot in the heart of Dutch-inspired town, Solvang, Mad & Vin is a breath of fresh and farm from the surrounding area in The Landsby hotel. Locals get free corkage, otherwise bring in your favorite bottle or pick from their selection. The portions are LARGE, so don't let the cost scare you. You're definitely getting what you pay for (in all the right ways). We had the burger with duck fat fries, and the stuffed poblanos. Looking for a good, sizable burger? Here you go. Want a flavorful dish and don't mind if it's vegetarian? NAILED IT with the stuffed poblano. Harrison was the cherry on top of a great meal. Attentive, helpful, and kind. Kudos to him and the restaurant.
Their Happy Hour Daily 4p-6p.. Mad & Vin is located inside the Landsby Inn . I went straight to the bar.. I ordered their Happy Hour Draft Aguas Santa Imperial Messican Lager with Fries cooked in Duck Fat .... DELICIOUS... my tab came out to $11.96 USD..!!!!!!
We come for multiple meals every time we are in Solvang. It's delicious. We love the atmosphere and the service. This time we had the NYE special Surf and Turf and the banana bread pudding. We also had the poke appetizer. All delicious. I recommend the Calamari appetizer over the poke, if you must choose, but both are excellent and satisfying. Give Mad & Vin a try. You won't regret it!
This is place needs to be on your list of "must go places" when you visit Solvang. We eat here everytime and the food and service is always amazing.
Wow, Mad & Vin totally blew away my expectations. Their charcuterie plate was the best I’ve had in ages, and the first one to include enough bread right out of the gate. The meat and cheese selections were excellent and the quantities were more than most places, and a great value for the price. The accouterments were also excellent. We also had the pork belly (excellent) and the calamari. I have to say that the calamari was literally the best I’ve ever had, I cannot overstate how excellent it was. Every bite was better than the last. We also had brunch the following morning and it was also wonderful.
We headed over to Mad & Vin for Sunday night dinner while staying in Solvang. We were served by Alejandra who was friendly and attentive. We stared with a couple of dirty martinis and the farmer salad. Both were delicious. For our mains we got the mushroom pasta and the roasted chicken. Honestly, I’ve never written a review for a chicken dinner before, so you know this one has to be excellent. It was so good that I asked our server how it was prepared because my chicken at home is always significantly more dry. She told me that they brine it overnight, roast it in the oven, and finish it in a skillet. Way too much work to do at home but man it was the best chicken that I’ve ever had. The best meal that we had in Solvang.

The food was very good. The salmon was excellent and enough to share. We also had the brussel sprouts as a starter. One bourbon drink, water to drink, tip, tax, and we were at $100. Good , but a bit expensive.

We did not have a reservation but were able to get a seat at the bar section after waiting a little bit. We ordered the fig bruschetta and the mushroom pasta. Both were delicious. Service was quick. Shout out to our server Adrian!
The fig and olive bruschetta that we began with was perfect. We even took pictures and hope to replicate it at home... Fingers crossed. We had burgers that were done perfectly with truffle fries but if you're hoping to have a more high-end meal they have those too. Definitely give it a try.
Also came here upon friends' recommendation. It wasn't bad, but nothing as as amazing as at The Gathering Table the night before. We had the Butternut Squash Soup Special (I don't know why the chef thought it needs croutons.) and the Farmer's Market Salad, which was a simple salad of Spinach, Tomato, Red Onion, Orange Segments and Pistachios with a Lemon Vinaigrette. Nothing to write home about. We did get complimentary pita chips with a red pepper dip, and that was quite delish. For entrées we had the Pinot Noir Braised Short Rib with mashed potato and the Ora King Salmon with pearl pasta, julienned spinach and sautéed mushrooms with a lemon Beurre Blanc sauce. They were both very delicious, but not very imaginative, intriguing or fantastic. We opted for the Pumpkin Bread Pudding. It tasted better than it looked. :-) Service was good, but there was no extra care or attention given. (We had to ask for a Diet Coke refill twice, for example.) The whole place seemed a bit on the snobbier side. Anyhow, this place we don't need to revisit.
The duck fat fries and the beef was so good! The mushroom pasta was pretty good too. Huge portion sizes.
Went for a night cap in the bar area. Server was the sweetest and we had a nice ending to our evening there. Lots of seating and the ambiance is beautiful and romantic. Nice for couples, singles and groups.
The sashimi was good. The rest of the food we had was ok. Short rib was a bit dry but tasted ok with the sauce. Chicken was not our favorite.

We were prepared to order a nice dinner; however the dinner menu is very limited and we didn't find anything we wanted to order. We settled on the burger ($26) expecting something exceptional for the price. We were up-charged $2 to add a thin slice of cheddar. The burger was far from exceptional: large burger with bacon and very little else on it. $17 for a 4oz glass of house Cabernet.
