We stumbled upon this place when walking back from the lake. We were fortunate enough to get a table in the bar which turned out to be very lucky as it was fully booked that evening! I can see why. The service was top notch. Cozy environment which is perfect after a day of skiing. Most importantly, the food was amazing. Had the Creole poutine and the beef goulash, which was on special. The blackened chicken sandwich was highly rated by a friend too. Had the banana bread pudding and pistachio cheesecake for dessert. 10/10 for both.
TL;DR Great food, yummy cocktails, & fantastic people. Also, the cooks are masters of texture. Our party of 4 sat in the bar area to watch the game. Wish the TV wasn't as loud, but that's probably the only tiny drawback from our experience. Started with the tasty poutine that maintained its crisp just enough under the cheese gravy with some soft, saucy bites mixed in. We also devoured the melt-in-your-mouth brussel sprouts. The rest of our party had burgers as mains, which I think they liked. I was too busy relishing the bowl of gumbo and shrimp and grits to notice. Gumbo was rich but balanced. The kind of flavor you can keep eating and not get tired of. No salt lick feeling on my tongue at the end of the bowl, which I often get from other gumbos. Not sure if the shrimp in the grits was blackened, but it was seasoned strongly to give some kick yet balanced, again. Both the shrimp and grits were cooked perfectly - some bite on outside and plumpness on the inside. I like trying desserts at restaurants, and Toulouse's pistachio cheesecake didn't disappoint. I regret only ordering 1 piece for 4 of us to share, but I don't think any number of slices would be enough. The strawberry coulis balanced (again) the fluffy, nuttiness of the pistachio cheesecake. Delicious. I forgot to take pictures of the drinks, but all cocktails we had were great. I enjoyed the lavender French 75 enough to order twice. I tried some of the Naked & Famous, and although I don't love mezcal, it was one of the better mezcal cocktails I remember. From start to finish, service was warm and friendly. I actually felt like they were genuinely happy we came. It was such a strong impression that everyone commented on it as we dined. Shout out to our waitress, who I think was Alex. Gracious and attentive, like everyone else we met. I will admit the price seemed a little steep, but after we finished, I can confidently say the quality and execution were worth it. This place was so good, someone asked if they're a chain because they want to eat it again without having to drive for hours. Fortunately and unfortunately, they're not, so visit if you're in the area.
We ate here twice during our visit to Lake Tahoe. Once was for cocktails and dinner at the bar. The 2nd was for breakfast outside on the patio. Both experiences were lovely! From the kind and attentive staff, to the atmosphere, to the quality of the food, we loved everything and hope to be back soon!
We were so happy with the super friendly staff who helped us out. They were incredibly helpful in guiding us through the menu. Their recommendations led us to some truly flavorful food options. It was a delightful culinary experience thanks to their excellent service. We appreciate their warm and welcoming demeanor.
We really enjoyed our meal at Toulouse! The oven roasted chicken wings were perfectly seasoned, the chicken burger was juicy and flavorful, the penne pasta was rich and comforting, and the mushroom omelette was fresh and delicious. They were also kind enough to allow a few customizations, which made the experience even better. It is a bit on the pricey side, but I suppose that is expected in a tourist spot like South Lake Tahoe. Still, if they could make it a little more budget friendly, it would be perfect. Overall, the food and service were excellent and we left very satisfied.
I had an amazing experience here! The food was absolutely delicious every single dish was on point. The drinks were just as great, and the atmosphere was fantastic. Huge thanks to our server, Alexia, who gave us outstanding service and made the lunch even better. Definitely recommend this place!
Sandra and I were heading home from an out of town trip and stopped for lunch at Toulouse Restaurant & Bar in South Lake Tahoe. We enjoyed cups of gumbo, blackened catfish sandwich and a Toulouse House Salad. Yes, food and beverages were very good, but the best part was Ulises, our Server. When we ordered, he said he will start us off with the gumbo. We ask to bring everything because we had not eaten all day. He asked how come, which started an amazing conversation. Ulises made the experience for my wife and I memorable, and we look forward to returning again soon…thank you!
The food was amazing! The mushroom Ravioli and Steak were both excellent. The banana bread pudding was to die for. Great atmosphere and relaxed staff.
We stayed at the Station House Inn, which is basically connected to this gem of a restaurant. The food has a great modern Cajun vibe, but the place itself didn't seem to have a cohesive theme. Super friendly staff, but no one ever asked if we wanted a second drink or anything. No dress code. I really recommend their spin on poutine as a starter.
We had delicious steak, prepared "Pittsburgh style." The Happy Hour is very early. So we walked there from our hotel and had drinks and apps. A Sazerac was so well made, I thought I was in New Orleans, the wine list plentiful and we'll curated. We ordered the bone in steak and shared the entre right at 5pm, when dinner was first served.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting Toulouse, a New Orleans-style restaurant, thanks to a friend from the South. We arrived around 5 PM, just in time to enjoy their happy hour, which runs until 6 PM. The happy hour offers a fantastic selection of beers, wines, and cocktails, along with an enticing array of appetizers. Speaking of appetizers, the portion sizes were impressively generous—each one could easily serve as a main dish for just $10! We decided to try the gumbo, Brussels sprouts, and poutine, and I must say, everything was excellent. Our server was friendly and attentive, adding to the overall pleasant atmosphere of the restaurant. Recommend to make reservation, this spot is pretty busy during season.
I found this place by chance for Happy Hour on a Saturday night and am thrilled I did. It has a New Orleans theme, but not overdone. Alex, the bartender, was fast, fun, and very engaging. Two of the owners, Adrienne and Steve, were also there and were equally engaging. I met the cook and other staff as well and all were fun. I got the Cajun wings, and they were done perfectly! I then had the gumbo, which was unique as it was made with a very tender duck confit plus the typical gumbo contents. A little spicy for some, maybe, but perfect for me. Would I go here again? Absolutely!! T should too!
Had a delicious shrimp gumbo, wings, and steak. With a “Tahoe” mule. The service here was fast and amazing.
Being from New Orleans and knowing great Cajun meals, I was skeptical, to say the least. It was exceptional! We had dinner one night and lunch and lunch the next day. The service was excellent, the food was full of flavor very satisfying. I was able to meet one of the owners during lunch, a complete New Orleans dude. He makes a mean Margarita, too! The Gumbo has duck andouille sausage, yum! The base was tasty, as was each bite.
Toluse – Fine Dining with a Side of DJ Drama (and a Beach Nearby) Toluse is a must-visit gem in South Lake Tahoe—just a short walk from Lakeside Beach, which offers a $30 all-day pass (or $9 for single entry if you’re just looking to dip your toes before dinner). Pro tip: the beach closes around 9PM, but don’t be surprised if someone in a neon vest reminds you it’s private property like they’re guarding Fort Knox. Gotta love when an underpaid, overworked local townee takes their summer gig a little too seriously. Now onto the meal. The vibe at Toluse is elevated but unpretentious. That said, when we went, Station House Inn next door was blaring pool music like it was 2AM at EDC, not 6PM on a Saturday. At one point, the DJ dropped “Still Fly” by Big Tymers and for a second, we thought Toluse had a cover charge. Totally unexpected, totally hilarious—and oddly, kind of set the mood. The food? Absolutely worth it. We started with the house salad, which was simple but well done—just the right ratio of feta vinaigrette to greens, plus crisp red onions and cherry tomatoes. Then came the Cajun blackened salmon, grilled to perfection with a smoky char on the outside but still medium on the inside. It sat on a bed of quinoa rice, topped with sautéed mushrooms and fresh microgreens that pulled it all together beautifully. Bold flavors, balanced textures—no notes. Service was excellent. Our server, Chris, was professional, friendly, and clearly knew the menu well. He made great suggestions without sounding scripted or pushy. You could tell he genuinely enjoys what he does (even if it’s just part-time), which made the experience even better. Though we didn’t try them this time, Chris mentioned that the Wagyu burger and poutine are house favorites—and based on how good everything else was, I’d absolutely come back for those. Final Verdict: Toluse offers seriously good food, top-notch service, and a prime location near the beach. Just be ready for a little unexpected soundtrack courtesy of the neighbors—and maybe a security guard who thinks he’s Tahoe’s last line of defense. Either way, come hungry and leave happy
Great vibe, amazing customer service, and really delicious food at the restaurant. The location is perfect just a short walk from Lake Tahoe. Highly recommended!
We ate lunch here on New Year’s Day, our first time here, and it was fantastic! The atmosphere was quiet and the music was perfect for a relaxing lunch. The food was terrific, I recommend the shrimp and grits and for something different the pistachio cheesecake
If you’re going to spend money on a nice dinner, skip the cheap Costco fried dishes in the village and go to Toulouse. Our server, Alex, was attentive and friendly, and made sure our dining experience was top notch. The food was phenomenal, drinks were unique and well poured, and the atmosphere was exactly what we wanted for a night out. We will definitely be back, this is our new favorite spot in Tahoe!!
Great service, the waiter was on top of everything while dealing with many tables, it was pretty impressive. The bar made our drinks wonderfully, the Old Fashioned was killer. The food was on par with everything else, just awesome. Wife had the blackened salmon and I had the shell on shrimp. Overall, worth it and fun, will go back!
Great service, they were very accommodating with our (+ another party's) requests of socially distanced tables. The food was amazing. We started with the Blackened NY steak app and the horseradish was a perfect kick. BF got the Wagyu burger and it was juicy and soft. I got the Crawfish Etouffee with the Andouille Sausage and it had a mild kick to it that was enough to make you feel the heat but wanting more. There was also crawfish in every bite so it was definitely worth it and the sausage a nice add-on. Pours are great, the Old Fashioned with cherry juice was awesome.
A few friends and I had dinner there on Christmas weekend. We didn't have a reservation so we Sat in the bar area. It was festive, cozy, and warm, friendly service. I didn't get to try any of the Cajun dishes but had the special -- steak and scallops. At $54 it was not cheap but it was tasty and generous. Overall a good dining experience. This restaurant seems like a nice new addition to S Lake Tahoe.
Lovely outdoor patio especially in summer. During winter we also had a party here for Fat Tuesday Mardi Gras, the staff and owners are so cool! The food is awesome and the story is lovely. The place just added a happy hour too. Prices are a little high for my budget but the restaurant has great vibes and very nice location. Easy parking, free to park. Super cool place, nothing like it in tahoe.
Haven’t had a good burger like this one, perfectly cooked. The meat so fresh and tender. Medium is a good choice. Good services and nice atmosphere of seating outside bathing with a breeze and soft sunlight.
My group and I had breakfast twice within a week here, and lunch. We were pleasantly surprised by how delightful the servers were, and how delicious the food was. We stayed at the hotel next to it, Station House Inn, so it was convenient to where we were staying. Everything we all had was great!
What an ABSOLUTE unexpected New Orleans themed gem in South Lake. Service, food, ambiance…. I’d give it a 100 if I could! I had a pleasure and privilege to experience this awesome Spot! We had the good fortune to happen to patron on Mardi Gras to boot!! One of the 4 owners (ready their story!) Steve welcomed and adorned us with amazing marti gras beads, visited the table often, and our server (lovely French gal!) was so very attentive and sweet. Their prices were beyond reasonable for the quality of food, service and overall experience. We can’t wait to go back for brunch and much more! Great job team Toulouse!
Having spent my summers in Tahoe for the last 30 years, I have mitigated expectations of great food, and now Toulouse has changed everything. Not only is it good food, it’s great Cajun food! Shrimp and grits, poutine with sausage, blackened shrimp or catfish po boy - we had them all! Incredibly delicious! Casual environment with great, heartfelt service from staff (Niko rocks) and owners, great drinks. Nice place to sit outside with a heat lamp, or spacious inside. If you’re trying to decide, seriously just go and eat deliciously!
I’ve been coming here for a few years now! Great happy hour and delicious comfort food. Alex and Michael are the best bartenders and make top notch drinks! A little slice of New Orleans just steps from Lake Tahoe 🦞💙
Cute place to dine that was a little off the beaten path - lots of places to dine were of course at the bottom of the mountain but felt a bit touristy. Toulouse had a nice outdoor dining area and great food that felt more authentic. The Ahi Tuna with wasabi mashed potatoes was an incredible combo!!
We went to South Lake Tahoe over the weekend for a concert. As we headed out of town the following morning, we found a breakfast/brunch spot off the beaten path. I had the fried egg bacon and cheese sandwich on sourdough with country potatoes and it was tasty and the portion was great. My friend had the quinoa bowl and said it was good as a vegan option.
Toulouse in South Lake Tahoe is a fantastic spot with incredible food and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The menu has a great mix of creative and classic dishes, all beautifully prepared. The staff is attentive and friendly, making the whole experience feel special. Perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal and great vibes in Tahoe!
I had the pleasure of having dinner at Toulouse 2 nights in a row while in town from Chicago for a concert last week. Our group had the best time! The staff, the food and the atmosphere were fabulous. Alex from behind the bar was awesome, as was our server, Chris. The shrimp and grits, brussel sprouts and chicken wings are definite favorites. I highly recommend trying Toulouse if you have the chance. You won’t be disappointed!
Visiting South Lake from the Bay Area and saw the reviews for Toulouse so knew we had to try it and it 1000% lived up to the hype! Aside from the food being so flavorful and delicious the service was incredible the owner was so sweet and our waitress was awesome. We will definitely be back the next time we visit and will be telling all of our friends to come here when they’re in Tahoe. Fantastic experience here (and whatever you do … order the shrimp and grits)
The blacken salmon and shrimp with cheesy grits were amazing. The service was one of the best I have ever had. The best food/service I've had in lake Tahoe are so far. Would definitely be coming back.
This place! We loved everything about our visit, from the spot on friendly service to the fabulous food! The restaurant is cozy and keeps a style and vibe consistent with the beautiful region it’s located in, so it was just what we were after. The Brussels sprouts appetizer was exceptional ! The drinks and the bartender/ bar service were equally amazing. Don’t miss this place on your visit to South Lake Tahoe. We went there twice on our short stay, we loved it so much!
Shrimp & grits and Toulouse burger were great! Service was top notch, highly recommend this establishment for your apres ski needs. Our server from Aptos CA was so nice!
We thought it was small and may be not too much vegetarian options, but we were happily surprised! Brussel sprouts were a hit! Loved the mushroom ravioli. Alex, our hostess was wonderful!
We came to this restaurant 2 years in a row for my husband's birthday. The first time we had 1 pound of boiled shrimp to start which is the reason we came the second time. The blackened salmon is delicious. The atmosphere is enhanced with good music. I also love the people who work there: upbeat and enthusiastic. I enjoyed this restaurant both times, though I wish the boiled shrimp would always be available.
I went for my birthday with a large party (14 people), only calling ahead with a couple hours notice. Not only could they accommodate us, but all of our food came out at the same time and it was all hot and delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meal, and our very nice and funny waiter. If I’m ever wanting to celebrate a nicer occasion in this area, I will definitely be coming back! (specific foods we loved include the gumbo, the chicken caesar salad, and the steak dinner)
Went to Toulouse this morning for a nice breakfast. We arrived mid morning to an empty restaurant. We were greeted an seated. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits (?) and the "French toast". The food was delicious! I didn't expect to enjoy the shrimp dish so much. Slightly spicy and seasoned well. The French toast was amazing although, one slice was very VERY chewy. Maybe an older piece of bread snuck it's way into the batter? We ordered extra food to bring to the kids at home in Meyers. They were pleased. We would absolutely visit again.
Black Friday lunch 2025 Our group reached a little early before noon and the gentleman welcoming us was ready to shift the kitchen to lunch service - customer champ 101 !! Our hostess took our order and answered all our questions :) The blackened chicken sandwich, Brussel sprouts & shrimp with gumbo was superb !
Come by chance due to late check in in Tahoe. The restaurant was quite cozy, but a bit crowded, waiter had not such much time with us (group of friends 5 pax). Quality of food was quite well and gets a big portion in all menus. For me, I ordered Hamburger and it could fit all my stomach. You can park in front of the restaurant or besides, lots of empty space. At night it's really dark outside and inadequate street light, but if you come by car, it was okay.
Toulouse is a charming Cajun restaurant in South Lake Tahoe, offering breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. The menu is extensive, catering to a wide range of tastes. Since it was conveniently located near our hotel, we tried their breakfast, brunch, and dinner. Everything we ordered was delicious and well-cooked. Despite being a Cajun restaurant, the food wasn't overly spicy; the spice levels were well-balanced. It was easy to find a table even on a busy weekend. The service was prompt, and the servers were polite and charming. Here is what we ordered: Summer Bruschetta (Photo 1): The bruschetta was well-prepared, but the bread was too thick, making it somewhat dry. While the taste was excellent, using thinner bread could make it perfect. Blackened Ahi Tuna (Photo 2): Fish lovers should try this dish. I had my tuna cooked rare on the server's recommendation, and I enjoyed every bite. It's my second favorite item on their menu. Compliments to the chef. Blackened Chicken Sandwich (No Photo): This was my favorite item on the menu. The chicken was grilled black but retained its juiciness, with flavors enhanced by the charring. It was served with delicious fries. Compliments to the chef. Classic Eggs Benedict (Photo 3): The toast was well-cooked and served with country-style potatoes. The potatoes had a bitter aftertaste that I didn't like, but the toast was flavorful. Chicken and Waffles (Photo 4): The chicken was juicy with a slight sour kick, and I loved the fried chicken breast with spicy honey. 2 Farm Fresh Eggs Cooked Your Way (Photo 5): I chose bacon for this classic breakfast item. The bacon could have been crisper, but everything else on the plate was well-cooked. I enjoyed every bite. I paired it with English breakfast tea, but coffee would also complement it well. Pistachio Cheesecake (Photo 6): This was my first time trying Pistachio Cheesecake, and it was an excellent choice. Our server recommended it, and I practically inhaled it. The subtle pistachio flavor paired well with the strawberry garnish. This is a must-try. Compliments to the chef. Portion: The portions are sufficient for one person, not suitable for sharing. Ambience: The food is well-presented, and the restaurant has a minimalist decor. It is located just a block away from the lakeside beach. Overall: 8.5/10 IG: ritesh_reviews
We had breakfast at Toulouse. The restaurant has a large outdoor patio, so it's great when the weather permits. It was nice overall. The service was great. The food is just okay but slightly overpriced, to my opinion. You have your usual breakfast options.
When you are craving Cajun type food in the Tahoe area, this is the place to go. Extensive menu highlighting all the fine food tastes of NOLA. They have found a great source for fresh oysters and have added those to the menu!! The shrimp and grits were tasty and served in a good portion size. Somehow I lost the pic of the blackened salmon. It was a fairly overdone but still tasty. Service was friendly and attentive without being annoying. Prices were what you'd expect in South Lake. The inside of the restaurant is a bit dated and ambiance is pretty bland. Needs some
Tried out a new spot for us and found Toulouse, it was a busy Friday night but the waiter kept a friendly smile all the time. Food was different and I enjoyed what the chef put together.
This is not true creole. The closest I could get was a fish po-boy. It was ok...not great. My husband had the salmon which was partly dry (over cooked). For the price, I expected better. The service was fine, atmosphere was just ok.
The house salad is nice but extremely small portion size (more like a side salad). The steak was also good, but nothing special for the price. Slightly overrated for the food served and the atmosphere
Very nice local restaurant, staff was super friendly and accommodating. Food was ok, might be too spicy for some but there are options that aren't. Had plenty of Cajun and this just mostly seemed to have Cajun spice trying to make it Cajun. Shrimp and Grits had lumps and seemed to have been frozen and thawed. For the price, make the grits fresh.
Came here our first night in tahoe after seeing the southern cuisine. We arrived a little over an hour before closing. One table occupied that we could see from the door. Debated leaving at that point but the bread pudding was on my mind. Took a while before getting acknowledged and seated, despite catching a worker's attention at the bar. Noticed a few dogs inside in the meantime. We sat and ordered a couple drinks and food. I did change the order after placing and was accommodated. Noticed a couple more tables of people in the back. The poutine came out slightly warmer than luke warm. He brought my to go bread pudding at the same time. Upon clarifying that the blackened salmon would still be coming, he returned saying that itd be a while as they had to get it out the back. It unfortunately looked better than it tasted. Asparagus was overcooked. The couscous had no flavor. The salmon was cooked medium rare, which I'd never had before but the owner did say they could have cooked it to preference if asked. The mushrooms made the dish. Still had room for the bread pudding prior to leaving so I asked for the vanilla ice-cream that went with it. The server stated they were out of ice cream. Huge let down but that bread pudding was still warm and had a different, enjoyable taste with the caramelized bananas. The server seemed to be the only one and preoccupied with cleaning up to head out instead of providing good service, like offering to refill empty drinks. The owner very briefly came by and chatted a bit. She primarily sat and conneceted with the table next to us. Not sure she ever visited the 2 tables in the back. Definitely looking forward to trying other places after this visit.
The Cucumber Cooler mocktail and service were excellent. I did actually like the mushroom ravioli with added grilled chicken, but didn't love it. The shrimp and grits were a big miss though. The shrimp and ham were charred and tasted burnt while the overall dish was too salty. Toulouse is cute and has a nice, big patio with heaters and is in a great location, close in proximity to Heavenly Village. Lots going for it, but since the food was the weakness here, I would skip this one next time.
