My husband received a gift certificate for his 70th birthday to The Plaza Cafe. We both enjoyed the dining experience immensely from the minute we walked in the door. The food was meticulously prepared and the service was outstanding. Chef Gulija even made time to come out and greet his guests. We can’t wait to go back!
All I can say is wow ! I have been here several times this summer and every single experience has been amazing !! I have been in the restaurant industry for over 24 years and it's really hard to find restaurants that are consistent with food and service. Chef Doug is a master at seafood, me and my wife love to sit at the bar and their manager Samantha always takes care of us, she is so passionate, a true professional. Our last experience ,we got there early and the chef did a tasting menu for us and it was spectacular !! Cannot wait to go back!
This is hands down the most perfect experience I have ever had at any restaurant. Starting with the fact that their entire staff is wonderful. I messed up my reservation and their hostess accommodated my mom and I immediately. The wait staff was attentive, courteous and efficient. Their chef is seriously talented. Our dinner was perfectly executed. The flavors were incredible which almost made me cry of happiness. As I said, this was perfect, in every way. I hope to be able to come back many times more.
What a memorable and incredible experience! I came here to enjoy a solo culinary expertise. I was greeted by the most welcoming staff and small team. I requested a mocktail that Oswaldo happily mixed up for me. I experienced a transformative meal. Not only was the meal incredible, but so was the late-night chat with Chef Douglas and his team. It was a quieter weekday night, and I felt as if I was a guest in their home. I will remember this evening fondly, indulging in delicious food, life experiences, travel experiences, and personal stories. Over the last 25 years, Chef Douglas and his team have taken pride in their art and provided the ultimate dining experience. I can't wait to return.
The Plaza Café provided my family and I a most excellent experience when dining in the hamptons. The ambiance was very well thought out, considering the cozy and familial, yet sophisticated atmosphere. Accommodating us was the warm and considerate staff; who took the extra effort to provide us with friendly conversation and to fulfill our requests. The executive chef is evidently very hardworking, serving dishes like their Montauk Pearls on the Half Shells, Tuna and Crab Tian, Macadamia Crusted Mahi Mahi, and Plaza Café's Lobster and Shrimp 'Shepard's Pie.' Ultimately, my family am I found our trip to last about 2 hours and enjoying it the whole way through. Would definitely recommend to someone hoping to have a heartwarming evening.
Genuine five star quality cuisine at its finest! Never a disappointment. In fact, always an amazingly tasty pleasure! Now that the season is back in full swing, we will be regular fixtures at the Plaza CAFÉ. I highly recommend the seafood pot pie adorned with those tasty potatoes toasted on top as well as the Shrimp Fettuccine with prosciutto and Halibut entrees! The oysters topped with caviar were also amazing. Premium top notch cuisine driven by expert preparation, not by the social media clout that trendy subpar restaurants rely on to drive up their reputation and numbers. Treat yourself, don’t cheat yourself. I cannot recommend Plaza CAFÉ enough!
Are you in the mood for love? While in relationships, it takes two, here you can be on the receiving end and need to raise your fork and glass repeatedly to your watering mouth effortlessly. Sweetly located off Hill Street, just a bit west behind the Southampton Movie Theatre is the Plaza Cafe. Truly a gastronomic delight and visually appealing, definitely romantic. The staff is most welcoming and attentive. Our recent server, Maryelle, was attentive and professional. The chef here deserves five stars plus rating as each entree is presented with style and taste worthy of being in the running with the best. Our foursome was also enjoying the unique theatre combo, so we dined on a three-course selection and made the 7:00 pm play of Mama Mia at the Southampton Cultural Center, within walking distance. Among our first courses, we enjoyed an excellent fish soup in a spiced tomato based broth filled with fresh shrimp, clams, and calamari. The salad was crisp greens, walnuts, and goat cheese and presented well as quite a healthy choice. Our main courses included Pasta Bolognese, which was declared by two tasters as out of this world. The Pan Roasted Chicken was moist and flavorful and served with Mushroom Polenta and Sauteed Spinach. Truly a plentiful dish! The Cod entree was both delicious and a visual feast for the eyes. On another evening, I opted for the Lobster special. A two-pound lobster comes topped with Shrimp Tempura with aioli cream on a bed of Asian Slaw. While we left little room for dessert, one can't pass up Grandma's Chocolate Cake and Creme Anglaise. The chocolate icing tastes as rich as eating an entire frozen Dove Bar, and the cake is moist and creamy. So when in Southampton, do call ahead and make a reservation for Dinner or Brunch at the Plaza Cafe. Celebrate life and a meal as it was meant to be savored and enjoyed. Living and dining here is a beautiful thing!
Everything was amazing. From the parking to service. Food was hand down excellent. We went for Valentines Day. They had an amazing lobster tasting menu. Mmmmm
This is a cozy place for a winter dinner - I am sure it is great in other seasons too. We had the price fix, great price and very helpful staff.
Great seafood dish. Fresh and delicate. Calamari and humus is a must-try. All deserts are made in house.
Delicious and fresh seafood. Great decor and bar design. Super friendly and attentive staff.
The Plaza Café is one of the best restaurants I have been to on Long Island. Not only was the food absolutely DELICIOUS but the chef/owner came to every table and our server, Erin, was beyond sweet, attentive and personable. We had the duck two ways and the lobster/shrimp shepherd’s pie which was PHENOMENAL. Seriously, we loved the vibe of the place, the people who worked there and the food. Again, shout out to Erin who was the best server of all time.
Recently on a little getaway to celebrate being together with family from other states since COVID. We went to South Hamptons. I placed a take out order at this lovely establishment-the young woman who took our order was warm, intelligent and very helpful accommodating my dietary needs. The food was excellent- the best restaurant in South Hamptons- I took out from 4 other places during my stay. A real winner!!! Keep it up- worth traveling back there soon.
We went to Plaza Cafe this evening and had an outstanding dining experience. The seafood was as fresh as it gets, the preparation created a balance of flavors that only the best chef-artists are capable of creating and the presentation was a feast for the eyes The service was very friendly and the bar well appointed. Everything was served with excellent timing in an environment that is relaxed, comfortable and perfect for a truly enjoyable dining experience.
No other way to celebrate my birthday other than with my best friend (my husband) and this restaurant. The food was extraordinary, the atmosphere cozy and inviting. With a large fireplace to boot! So often, owners opt for gas, I always enjoy the smell and warmth of a real fire, this fireplace will not disappoint you. The chef made sure to stop by, he was interesting and we enjoyed speaking to him. Last but not least, our server, Erin, was by far the most informed and enjoyable person we have ever met. We will make sure to go back as now this has become our favorite place to go to whenever we are out east. .
The best kept secret in the Hamptons. We have thoroughly enjoyed The Plaza Cafe every time we are here. The staff is terrific- the chef masterful.
Having eaten a few meals here, my appreciation for well crafted cuisine has grown tremendously. Many kudos to the Chef Doug Gulija, and Giovanni as well as Oswaldo, our most gracious server. Many good tidings I wish to your business.
Great meal, great service in a beautiful room. We highly recommend the ceviche, but it’s hard to pick favorites - everything from cocktails to dessert was so good!
The Plaza Cafe is far and away the best restaurant on the south fork. I give it 5 stars because the food is extraordinary, especially the fish dishes. Chef Giulia uses the freshest and most local ingredients available. That matters to me as a Slow Food fanatic. The service is polished and the decor is cozy, yet elegant.
This place is our little hidden gem when it comes to good eats! Food is always a mouth exploding happiness! The owner is also the head chef and his creations are overly satisfying. Prepares different specials according to whats in season and fresh. Enjoy!!!
We stopped in for cocktails before attending a local event. The drinks were well made and the ambiance was elegant.
Plaza Cafe is cozy, lovely, and truly enjoyable. Everything from the service to the dessert was phenomenal. The staff are kind and fun, but know when to leave you alone. The cocktails, apps, entrees and desserts are flawless. We can't wait to go back. Exceptional.
From coming in the door, nothing but 1st class treatment from the entire staff. The food was the best we have ever had in Long Island. The Plaza is simply the best.
Amazing dinner at The Plaza Cafe. The food was delicious and service was great. What a wonderful restaurant.
Went with a friend to Plaza cafe for dinner recently. I had the swordfish which was out of this world and my friend was raving about the local striped seabass. From the flavors of the food , the top quality of ingredients & the mastery of food presentation - it was like eating in a Michelin start restaurant. And the evening was topped off with the flawless service of our waiter Xavier. We will be back!
Last Friday, my friend Inge Tiemens and I went out for an incredible dinner at the Plaza Café in Southampton to celebrate her birthday. The atmosphere, the excellent service and the food itself turned the whole evening into a special and delightful event. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Mr. Douglas Gulija’s cooking skills are truly impressive and the evening was worth every cent we spent. Thank you so much!
Wowwwww, we were beyond impressed with this place—it actually surpasses the hype! The food was phenomenal, the waiter was incredibly kind and gracious, and the chef himself came out to ask how we enjoyed our food. We will always come back to this gem whenever we visit Southampton!
This was our first time dining at the Plaza Cafe, and it was excellent. We were greeted so warmly by the hostess, and attended to quickly by the waiter. The food was outstanding--perfectly cooked, seasoned and presented. We had the baby gem lettuce salad and seared calamari first--both were scrumptious. For our main courses we had the tilefish and the lobster shepherd's pie, also so tasty and beautifully presented. Dessert was the pumpkin torte with pepita brittle--a perfect way to end the meal. My only criticism is that I felt the ambiance was a bit cold--a very large room with a vaulted ceiling all painted white was not very homey or inviting. We were told that the Plaza Cafe is moving down the road and I'm sure the ambiance will be more welcoming and cozy. Even if it's not, we certainly look forward to returning for the outstanding food and service.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Plaza Cafe in Southampton, NY. Our server, Oswaldo, was attentive and personable, providing excellent service throughout our meal. He made sure we were well taken care of. One standout dish that I highly recommend is the Lobster-Stuffed Squash Blossom Tempura appetizer. The delicate squash blossom, fried to a light crisp, was generously filled with lobster, creating a wonderful balance of flavors and textures. It was a unique and memorable dish that set the tone for the rest of the meal. Overall, The Plaza Cafe offers a nice dining experience with great service.
I can't say enough about the Food and Service that The Plaza offers. The Food: You can tell that Doug, the owner/chef cares about your dining experience. Never had I had a more personable exquisite meal. He really knows how to cater to your taste buds. Fine Dining At It's Best! The Staff and Service: Very Friendly, Attentive and On Point! Just Wonderful!
The ambiance and service were lovely. Our meals were prepared excellently. We had the tuna and crab tian, lobster Shepard’s pie, black cod special, and the apple pecan pie which were all delicious. 10/10 would recommend and will be back!
Easily one of my favorite restaurants on the east end. Amazing service, amazing atmosphere and a chef/owner in the kitchen who consistently hits it out of the park. The only true NYC quality meal you’ll get in the Hamptons. Everything is made in house from apps to deserts. Can’t say enough good things about The Plaza and Chef Doug, if you haven’t been what are you waiting for?!
We had an outstanding experience -- superb food, beautifully presented. An attentive server. A beautiful fire in the fireplace, making for a cozy night of pure enjoyment. Highly recommended!
The food is consistently top notch. No otherseafoof restaurant comes close. The service is always friendly and welcoming while maintaining a professional level. We will miss the Plaza Cafe.
Fine dining at its best. A memorable, tasteful and delicious culinary experience with an attentive and friendly wait staff in a relaxing sophisticated atmosphere. A must visit if you’re looking for a reservation for dining at a Southampton staple that’s not loud or crowded but is really cooking!
I've been to the Plaza every time I've been to Southampton and the food, the experience and the service is always amazing. Have you ever had a meal that you can't stop talking about it? It happens every time I eat there. The oyster appetizer and the lobster dinner was so good...I really believe I moaned out loud. It's truly the "must go there" spot in Southampton.
We had a fabulous anniversary dinner. I chose the restaurant since almost every item on the menu had something with fresh local fish or seafood. The swordfish and sea bass were both spectacular. The sauce complemented the fish without hiding the great flavor of the super fresh fish itself. The skin on the sea bass was nicely charred giving the dish a slightly smoky flavor. Appreciated the chef coming out in person to help us select a local wine to pair with the meal. Ginger ice cream was a great finish to a memorable meal. Thanks again!
Fresh perfect seafood. Absolute find dining. Crisp elegant decor. Crisp elegant plating. Simple & delicious menu. 5 fresh local catches perfectly prepared 5 tasty , well composed seafood apps I tried them all. We were four, but I ordered five prix-fixe and tasted or ate all. I only eat once a day, so it's like a viking bar mitzvah. Service was excellent We didn't have a reservation but the hostess was lovely , welcoming The wait staff were superb. All showed extra effort, and even participated in my guest's silly tiktok (* We were the last out, so the place was empty by then lol) The only thing that gives them a ninety nine, instead of a hundred points On the entire menu, there's only one non seafood. Item, and that is rack of lamb, which they were out of even though it was only eight o'clock and not super crowded. When you only have one thing for nonfish people, you can't run out of it. Even if you did run out of it, i've been in the business you go out and buy a couple ribeye steaks wherever however Fortunately our non-pesca is both Norwegian, and a bit of a drinker. After two well made cocktails she enjoyed the salmon* , albeit on childhood auto-pilot :) *It's actually super great New Zealand Ora King salmon , the same cook for myself, and perfectly prepared.
This place is conveniently across the street from the South Hampton Inn. It was our first time trying this place. The service was fantastic and the waitress/manager was super helpful with accommodating us with our food allergies: Gluten, Dairy, Tree Nuts, & Raw Eggs. The chef changes modified some of the dishes for us and everything still tasted delicious. We enjoyed he Tuna & Crab Tian, Grilled Seafood Tacos, and the Steamed Local Black Sea Bass. They have lots of seafood and everything is prepared with very tasty and interesting ingredients. The menu is quite exciting and not like typical boring seafood restaurants that just drown everything in butter. We will definitely return.
We are so glad to have tried this place despite the word "cafe" in its name. Everything we ordered was delicious, and beautifully presented. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Really like the decor, simple, clean and peaceful. Definitely on the return list, and if I were you, I would ignore some of the not so positive reviews of the place and give it a try!
Delicious and fresh food. We came here to celebrate our engagement, nice for special occasions. The crab and tuna tartare appetizer was delicious. Fantastic service and you can tell the chef not only cares about the food but also in the service to make sure his customers are enjoying themselves.
I can’t believe I haven’t eaten here before…it was fabulous!! Everything was delicious and special. Room was great, fireplace was perfect. Service was excellent. Looking forward to coming back!!
Absolutely Amazing! Chef put every bit of love into each dish he prepared. From the octopus to the seafood shepherds pie and wagyu steak and completing it with apple pecan cake could not have been tastier!! The bartender made delicious espresso martinis and our night was absolutely perfect!
The hostess abd her wait staff were on point! Very attentive, but didn't hover. The fish was so perfectly cooked & better than excellent! Kudos to the chef, who came around to make sure everything was to our liking, and it was! Everything was excellent!!
We had the most delicious meal at The Plaza Cafe in Southampton! It was by far the best meal we had on the island! Chef & owner Doug has a hands on creative approach to a wide variety of dining options. Our server & hostess Sam went above & beyond to be sure our experience was top notch! Our delightful, romantic evening by the fireplace was a night to remember!
We came for dinner before a show that was a package deal so it was a prix fix menu so my wife ordered cocktails as well as our full meal - app, entree and dessert. I also mentioned to the waitress that I would want to order a glass of wine with my dinner. Our app - soup - arrive before our cocktails. Then when our entree arrived there was no sign of our waitress to order a glass of wine. She showed up when we were more than half way through our meal so I ordered my wine then. Finally, our dessert arrived and the waitress came by a few minutes later when my wife ordered an espresso. As with the last time we ate here the espresso came when dessert was finished. Based on the fact that we've had two bad experiences as far as the service goes I've lowered my rate from 3 stars to 2. It's too bad this place can't hire quality staff since the food is always excellent.
Based on the reviews here my Fiancée and I decided to give this place a try. However, when we came in there was literally no other customers there which was super awkward and felt like I could not have a conversation with my date. First off, the prices here are extremely high. $8 just for a soda?! The menu is very limiting and it is $85 a person for a two course meal (not three). I thought the food was okay nothing special. There are many other restaurants in the area that are far better and far cheaper.
This is bad experience I ever have. This is supposed to be a great night for us. What I have tonight is “wagyu steak”, I have wagyu so many time and this is not a wagyu, I shared with my friend and they all think is so bad, is like Costco cheapest steak maybe even worse. The chief come of too us and should me some kind recipes from his supplier. What i want to say here is that I recommend to try a wagyu first and change your supplier. Oh BTW don’t combine the steak with soy sauce, you can have so many better options and you choose the bad one. I’m sorry for your taste。
Was recommended to try this restaurant this evening. Huge mistake. Food was absolutely awful. The tile fish my husband ate was tasteless and in a flavorless sauce with barely recognizable potatoes. I ordered shrimp tempura which was not tempura at all , merely shrimp heated in a yukky sauce on top of some tasteless slaw. The salad with roasted beets was also awful. The restaurant was empty , the server was struggling but trying , the price was deplorable for the low quality food. It was such a shock in a place like Southampton. The other choices we have had here were much much better.
Should have known when a place this pretty was mostly empty on a holiday weekend... Bland and mediocre (and expensive). So many better places in the Hamptons. Added after owner comment (minus one star for service) Since you felt the need to respond and attempt to recount our conversation, let me remind you that, (a) when you called, you mentioned that Friday was a disappointing crowd but that you were booked all weekend. When I checked Resy, there were available reservations every 15 minutes from 5pm until 930pm; and (b) we said the appetizers were “ok” - which is not what I expect at your price point. And at least we can agree the food was bland and that there are so many better places in the Hamptons. Maybe some more time in the kitchen and less time disputing customers?
