I visited here in October 2023. I came across this place purely by accident. I had just arrived at Milan Malpensa and was on my way to my B&B lower down in Lago d’orta. We were early, so decided to take a trip up to Mottarone. My 2 daughter’s fancied lunch. Low and behold. We saw signs for this Restaurant. Parked the car and walked to the Restaurant. We were dressed in jeans and shirts. When I arrived at the door. I thought no chance of getting in here. Looked liked really fine dining. Very posh. Well a gentleman from inside approached me at reception. I asked if we were dressed appropriately. He said. No problem. We don’t judge you on how you look. Your here to eat. Please come in. Well I swear to God. Great view from the table. It was a Gastronomy of Food and Wine. We decided to have the Tasting Menu. With paired Wines. It was truly mind blowing. Every plate of food and wine was explained with great importance of were the food came from and were the grapes of the wine were grown. Mostly local. Each plate was truly married with a great glass of wine. We appreciated every great taste of the food and how delicately each plate was presented and made. The waiter was fantastic, with the choices of wine with the different food courses, we had ordered. Even if it was a tasting menu, The portions were, value for money. This place was an extravaganza. I am sure we will revisit. Many Thanks for such an enjoyable experience.
We spent a Sunday lunch time here and felt as if we were in paradise! Ivan - the most gracious host. We had not booked properly by accident but, despite being fully booked, he accommodated us. The service was impeccable - Ivan was attentive, knowledgeable and funny without being overbearing. The atmosphere was dreamy. Relaxing music on a beautiful veranda with spectacular views of Lake Maggiore. The food really was so delicious- we had three courses on the a la carte menu. Each dish seemed well balanced and imaginative but at the same time like comforting home cooked Italian food! Several/maybe all the dishes were created with local produce. The perfect blend of creativity and comfort. A very local dish in this part of Italy is ‘Vitello tonnato’ (veal with a tuna sauce). Being British - this is a strange combination to us and so I was a little apprehensive to try it but as they say - ‘when in Rome!’. It was so delicious and according to Ivan it really is made the ‘proper’ way at Villa Pizzini’. Suffice to say - top restaurant and made for the most magical afternoon. Can’t wait to return one day. Thank you Ivan!
Almost unbelievable location - it is on top of a mountain, 1400m above sea level. The views are incredible; you can look down and see all the towns around the lake, a god-like view. Beautiful dining room, tastefully decorated. Impeccable service. Inventive, creative food - I highly recommend "The Path" tasting menu, which contained at least two dishes I would rank as "the best things I have ever eaten" (and I have eaten many things in many places). Each dish is fascinating - Ivan explained where each item came from in detail (each dish represents a specific height up the mountain, with the ingredients being from that height). The non-alcoholic pairing was outstandingly creative and stayed away from simply "mocking" alcoholic drinks - I won't spoil it, but you should absolutely order it. Villa Pizzini should have a Michelin star - right now, it's "only" recommended, but that seriously undersells the skill, creativity and sheer joy of food on display here. If you love food, do not miss this place.
We hiked from Baveno to this summit, planning to eat simple at the top. Unfortunately nothing was open except this one. We directly felt uncomfortable as we were wearing running clothes and sweating. We dared to enter and ask if we could grab something, the only questions we got were: - are you hungry ? - are you thirsty ? Then you are more than welcome to sit where you want and enjoy some food. Then it was just an amazing experience ! Thanks again to have enabled us to live this, it made our day ! The service was very accommodating, the food was amazing…everything was so perfect ! Thanks again ! Worth the visit and experience 🫶
Absolutely magnificent dining experience. Each dish was more delicious than the last. We had the "Origins" menu and highly enjoyed the tastes of the season- mouth-watering saffron risotto, assorted pork, exquisite ravioli with truffles. The veal and cod were also impeccable. The desserts were cullinary heaven- tiramisu and pear with a white chocolate ball of deliciousness that can hardly be described. Perfection. I almost wept when the meal was done as it had been such a moving experience. Highly, highly recommended. Warning- the drive up the mountain may not be for the faint of heart, especially in rain and fog, but worth every hairpin curve and turn from Stresa. Wonderful and attentive host and staff, catering to every need and whim and whatsapping us to make it past road closures. My only regret was that it was dark and we could not see the presumably amazing view.
Excellent food, great view and a staff going the extra mile: The menu we choose was adjusted to be gluten free for me and pregnant-friendly for my wife! Definitely a rare thing nowadays. 5/5.
Stunning restaurant. We drove from Stresa which took just over 30 mins. Quite steep & winding roads leading you up to Villa Pizzini on top of the mountain with breathtaking views - easy to find on Google maps. The restaurant is a gorgeous property and the staff were great. Really delicious food with a great menu and you can’t beat the wine selection which offers by the glass and bottles. A true experience. Nice slow drive down the mountain after dinner! Must try restaurant if at all close by.
Didn't spend the night there, only had the chance to enjoy the restaurant end of August 2022. Hosts are super welcoming and gave us a great tip ahead of our reservation: come early to enjoy the sunset over the lake (lago maggiore). The food, service, wine selection were all amazing. This was one of the best experience I ever had. Can't wait to come back and enjoy an over night there. Don't hesitate to go there!!!
Amazing place! From the moment you park your car, you get into an incredible restaurant. I was welcomed by Ivan, the man knows and lives service. So professional and yet not pretentious. As for the food- it was an unique experience from start to finish. So delicious! Definitely one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to. I hope they’ll soon get their Michelin star, they are well deserve it!
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!! The food, the service and hospitality were brilliant - they even gave us blankets when we got cold! The 30 minute drive from our hotel was more than worth it - the whole experience was wonderful, and we’d definitely come back. I recommend the ‘2015-2022’ set menu with the 5 glass wine pairing - it was heavenly. As it’s a family-owned business, one of the owners, Luca, took care of us from start-to-finish. He told us to come earlier to enjoy a drink on the terrace, and helped us with the menu. All their food is locally sourced (literally from their garden), and the wine is divine. I’d give it more than 5 stars if I could.
An experience of a lifetime! Beautifully curated plates of the most delicious food you'll ever eat in a setting that makes you feel like you are on top of the world. The service was exceptional and the knowledge of our host on both the topic of food and wine was incredible. We ate at all three Michelin restaurants while in Stresa and, by far, Villa Pizzini was the best overall experience of the three. I just can't say enough about our fabulous meal.
My wife and I visited Villa Pizzini in July 2017, for a nice evening of food and wine. The service was very personal and extremely friendly, with background info on every drink or food you order. The owner (I suppose Ivan?) speaks with a very good English accent, and knows what he's talking about. All products were pure and full of taste. Thanks for the great evening, and we will definitely come back when we are in the area!
Most bizarre place. I tend not to give negative reviews so will give a short but, in my view, fair assessment. The rooms are clean but that’s about it. The location is uphill and not very easy to find. The rooms are very basic and decor is highly questionable. Painted tiles on the floor and metal doors don’t add to the warmth of the place. We didn’t feel at ease there. Seems like a place from a horror movie, if I am honest (it may just us). The host was alright but not too friendly, at least to us. We had dinner there and the menu was surprisingly expensive for what you get. I didn’t realise it was a bit of a fine dining (but for that the place needs to work on ambience and at least have tablecloths) but the portions were quite tiny. Breakfast was alright but again not hing to fancy (not a single vegetable?)… I wish them well but won’t be returning for sure.
Great food undermined by less great hospitality. The food is excellent and service is generally attentive. The views over the lake are nothing short of stellar. However they have a lot of rules for what and how you can order, and how you can eat it. They even went as far as denying my request of a fork instead acting in service of the guests and adapting. Quite expensive for what you get and my expectations for costs were not adequately managed. The cover and the antipasto were unexpected costs that amounted to roughly €40 extra per person, even for kids.
We booked a place for the evening and when we realized that we wanted to drive through the forest in the dark, we called to cancel. The owner of the restaurant informed us that he charges a cancellation fee of 65 euros per person!!!! We are 5 people and we decided not to pay for anything. We arrived at noon at the restaurant after half an hour of driving through the forest and when we sat down the owner of the restaurant informed us that because we were 5 people we should choose a tasting course that costs 72 euros. Inclood one child …… Nothing was tasty, my daughter had hairs in the fish, the second had eggshells in the gnocchi And we paid 420!!!!! euro Just shameless theft and no more words I've been to hundreds of better and less good restaurants, but I've never felt like I was cheated like today. Run away from this restaurant.
If your idea of a nice dinner is to drive extremely treacherous roads through a dense forest to arrive to the most condescending host imaginable, then this place is for you! The host/waiter is patronizing and snobbish; he did all he could to make us feel unwelcome - from criticizing our order to telling us how restaurants "normally work." Things you should know before going - you don't actually eat outside, where the view is - you eat in a stuffy dining room inside. Also, you have to walk an unlit, unpaved, kind of unsafe path from the parking lot to the villa - definitely leave your heels at home. Lastly, the menu strongly suggests (requires?) each person order at least two dishes, not including dessert, which is not only ridiculous, but also quite difficult given how limited the menu is. I would say unless you want to see just how bad service can get in a restaurant to stay away at all costs. UPDATE: All you need to do to understand what you're in for at this restaurant is to read the response from the owner below. That is exactly who he is. If you want that, you should go, by all means. If not, stay away. And for the record we ordered seven dishes, not two, some of which were actually very good, but his presence made them very difficult to enjoy.
I made a reservation for a restaurant with my family, the road to the restaurant is very long and dangerous, about half an hour drive in a tangled forest. We arrived 5 people and from the first moment they made it clear to us that because we are over four we cannot order from the regular menu but only the tasting menu which starts at 72 euros per person, we were with an 11 year old girl who did not eat half of the dishes, in addition one of the dishes had hair in it and the other had eggshells, and we did not receive any apology. The dishes themselves are made with a high technique but are not suitable for everyone, they have strong flavors. In conclusion, we didn't enjoy it that much.
