Great food, had the quesadilla and corn as well as the fish and chicken tacos. Everything was really good. Save room for desert, the lava cake engulfed in white chocolate is amazing!
Everything we tried was delicious. We had guacamole, tacos (steak, fish, and lobster), carne asada, and some melted chocolate over a lava cake with ice cream and caramel dessert. It was so so good!!
Loco Mondays is one of the hottest dinner parties in NYC we’ve ever been. The DJ played the best hits all night long. He is a GOD! We visited this trendy Mexican spot after a tour in The Gallery. They offer tasty food presented in an extraordinary way with great desserts and cocktails. The service was excellent. It’s perfect for late-night food. It is situated in the Dream Downtown hotel so you can get some sleep after the amazing party.
First of all, if you are not ready to have the culinary experience of a lifetime, turn around and go somewhere else. The food in this place is out of this world, great flavors and variety, one of my friends literally said the tacos she ordered changed her life, LITERALLY! The drinks are amazing and the overall vibe of the place is perfect. I went there with friends with no expectations and left already wanting to go back. The pleople are chic and glamorous but not pretentiotious. I cant say enough good things about bodega negra. One last thing: tip generously because the staff is beyond amazing and they deserve it.
Omg this place is super cool and food was top shelf. Host and waiter both ultra professional. Vibe in the room was cool. Loved the tacos. Green rice was great and the beans were slow cooked and perfectly seasoned.
Absolutely great atmosphere. The food was delicious and the margaritas excellent. It was for restaurant week and the menu delicious. Our server, Lawrence, took great care of us. Can’t wait to come back again!
Get here before 8 and enjoy their 8 specials before 8pm deal. The margaritas are fresh and delicious. The street corn nachos are amazing and a large portion. Guac is Fab. Quesadilla too. Terrific service. Great food and drinks...at least before 8.
The pork belly app is really good, highly recommend. I didn't do the restaurant week menu, opted for the chorizo Mac and Cheese and it was excellent! Beware it packed lots of heat but still tasty.
What an amazing cuisine. Best Mexican dishes I've ever had, the meats and seafood were bursting with flavor and they have an extensive drink list. Definitely Will visit them again soon.
Dined here for restaurant week which is a good deal. The ambiance food was amazing and I was surprised that the portions were size-able. I had the quesadilla rustica, the carne asada for my entree and churros with hot chocolate for dessert and everything was delicious. Kudos to the courteous and efficient staff as well
This restaurant is not only beautiful but the flavor of the food is a treat for the palate. Lawrence our server was awesome , very knowledgeable and offered great suggestions. We will definitely be back!
Came here for happy hour with a friend. Isabelle the bartendar is really nice stand makes a great spicy margarita. We ordered the guac and chicken tostadas. Excellent. I will make sure to return. Good vibe.
This was my favorite Mexican restaurant in the city. Love the ambiance, decor, great customer service. The food was absolutely delicious! My favorite dish was the lobster fajitas. Unfortunately, they are closed now. Hopefully they will reopen.
It was a LIT spot for a date on a Sunday night with a sweet Nordic thang. Not too loud or crowded like on Mondays or other day during the weekend. The decor had a very sexy environment to set the mood and get it poppin'. Food was dank AF and was brought out stupid quick. Prices were a little on the higher side for the type of food but shawty gets what she wants. Bodega Negra was MAD NICE. Highly recommend!
Be sure to come with a big group so you can sample a bunch of dishes. Our favorites: honey ribs, steak fajitas, soft-shell crab tacos, tuna tostaditas, & of course the Don Huevo. Excellent drinks too!
Place is really good. Service is really good. Hostesses need to care more about guests. I approached them struggling with my English and they acted rude. A bit more patience to non native-speakers would be fantastic!
It is a cute little spot where the waiters are very engaging and friendly. The margaritas were my drink of choice they were made very strong. The presentation of the food was very nice. I had the chicken quesdillas and beef tacos very delicious along with dabs from the selection of hot sauces. For dessert I had the huevo it was a pleasant surprise. The white chocolate ball was melted with hot caramel with a chocolate cake inside. It is a sight to see so cool.
Went there for my birthday dinner last Saturday and was pleasantly pleased with this place. Not only was the decor intriguing but the ambiance & music as well was all so cute! Real chill vibes and now let’s speak about this Quesadilla Rustica - let me just say it was so delicious! Definitely will be returning. And our waiter was exceptional as well.
I booked Bodega Negra for my husband's birthday party and it was SO good. Melissa Moon helped me coordinate and she was simply the best! Patient and responsive with all my questions. Her customer service skills really helped make the experience all that much better. The day of, entry was easy, food was delicious and the music was bangin! I highly recommend.
Good food, intriguing environment. I walked by the restaurant and was drawn in by the signage. So glad I tried it. Great food! Yucca fries were good and loved the soft shell crab tacos. Try and catch the happy hour if you can.
Our server was incredible. I did not get his name because it was loud and there was a big group of 13 of us. He was attentive, accommodating and very sweet. Only complaint is feeling a bit rushed mod meal. A busser came and took all of our plates and we clearly still had food on the table. The issue was correctly quickly and we weren’t treated any differently afterwards. Drinks were phenomenal Blood Orange Palomas were amazing! Carne asada also ridiculously good. I would definitely recommend this spot. Cool decor too!
I loved the service here. It was a very nice hangout type of place and has some great food items. The prices and a bit higher but it's still a great place to go. I went for my father and step mother's anniversary and we enjoyed it very much.
I truly loved my experience here. We were here celebrating an important event and I had a minor so they seated us immediately. The food was delicious- appetizers, drinks, and dessert. It was a lounge vibe but very chill. 😍
WOW!! Very fun and entertaining environment!!! The music was great the drinks wee great and the food is something that you definitely dont want to miss out on. We tried almost all the tacos and its impossible to choose a favorite!!! Will be returning on our next trip to NY!!! And aslo recommend to all our friends as a "must do" if visiting NY.
Try this place! The standard house salad is a huge portion, well priced, really a nice dish. Presentation is colorful. Taste = top notch! I had the tuna ceviche. It's an appetizer portion, so don't expect to be filled up. However, the flavor is amazing! Best ceviche I've had. Spicy? Yes. But not at the expense of savoring the unique tuna, cilantro, and other saucy flavors. Happy eating!
Food was great! The tacos were delicious. The drinks were very good. The desserts were amazing as well. We went for my birthday. This made my special day great
Great happy hour! Items for 8 bucks before 8pm. Try the nachos & guac. Very delicious. Classic margarita is the best way to go, the other drinks on the happy hour menu were ok. Looking forward to going back there with more friends!!!
Delicious Mexican cuisine. Their soft shell crab tacos and duck tacos are to die for. Their fall off the bone ribs are delectable and delicious. Their cocktails are unique and fun! This was a fun place to be for our girls night out on a Monday. Def will go back soon.
Food here is DELICIOUS and there are so many great options! I had the green basmati rice and the quinoa salad which were both delicious and fresh, the service is outstanding and the atmosphere really tied it all together. The food and drinks were fresh and the food came out in a reasonable amount of time. I would definitely recommend it at anytime but what’s really convenient is that there is 2 really nice bars located in the same building. One bar is called PhD (upstairs) and the other one is Electric Room (downstairs), so this place is perfect before a night out in NYC :)
Everything we ate was delicious! The food was fresh and tasty. The cocktails were creative and there’s a fun vibe to the restaurant. With the music levels, I would say it’s best for dinner/drinks with friends! Ordered: 1. Sweet Potato Empanadas 2. Pescado al Pastor Taco 3. Steak Taco 4. Guacamole
The short review: 100% recommended, won’t regret it at all. There are so many great things about this place. I visit this restaurant during the restaurant week, starting with a happy hour margarita at the bar, very decent considering the price of it. As soon as I got to my table, the ambience was so immersive surrounded by the dimmed lights and barrels on the walls. But the true experience came with the food. Coming from a Latino culture, the dishes were mastered to almost perfection. Real Mexican blue corn flautas and queso fundido with chorizo we’re amazing, but the chicken tacos were the star of the show. For dessert, the tres leches cake was stunning and presentation can’t be better. I will definitely come back to try the other options in the menu, and as I said, you won’t regret to spend a great date here with a club fresh atmosphere.
Had a really great time here. Friday night music was fantastic and our waiter was so knowledgeable and friendly. We had a nut allergy in the group and he was great about mentioning what should be avoided or put on the side. We never felt rushed and the food and drinks were all delicious. We had the chicken & chorizo fajita (meat was so tender), chicken tacos (tasty, but too small for the price), yuca fries (for a side this was a large portion), sweet plantains (hit the sweet spot). We also had the white dome lava cake dessert.
Oh my god every bit of food that entered my mouth made it water even more. Portions were great, taste and texture well balanced, and presentation was clean. Our servers were extremely attentive, asked about our allergies, and pointed out when dishes either contained a food that one of us could not eat or had it on the side. They paid even more attention to where they placed the dishes so as to not have a ton of meat in front of the vegetarians and peanuts in front of me. Everything came out in perfect timing. I enjoyed the dark, grungy ambiance as well. Will definitely be back!
One of the Best Mexican Restaurants in New York City! Located in the Dream Downtown Hotel - immediately upon entering Bodega Negra, we noticed that the decor was so chic! The lights are dim, they have a disco ball, boom boxes on the wall, and gorgeous decorations. It’s a very intimate setting. The staff was so nice and seated us to a beautiful corner booth. We ordered drinks - a mojito and the Smoking Scorpion. I’m a big fan of scotch and this drink was excellent! It has Glenmorangie aged 10 years and the cool part is the flaming smoked Sea Salt. The manager brings it out for a wonderful presentation. The drink - WOW. It went down so smooth and I would come back just to have it again! I would definitely recommend getting it even if you don’t like scotch! They’ve mastered this drink. It was only $19 too which was surprising for everything that went into it and the presentation. For the food, we got chips with guacamole, the Mixta Salad and Fajitas. All were excellent! The red wine vinaigrette on the salad was the perfect touch and this salad was a nice portion size for only $12. Too many Mexican restaurants I’ve tried in the city struggle to make an awesome Guacamole. Bodega Negra’s medium Guac was unreal. So fresh, tasty, and just the right touch of spice at the end. We didn’t get the tacos but they looked so good too! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and will be coming back again!
Came here before going out and I'm really glad I did! The food was so good. I really loved the pizza. The salad was really good as well. I also really enjoyed the black beans and the green rice. The service was really great as well and I went with about 10 people! Servers were very attentive! Would love to come back here again!
I have no words to describe how amazing the food was. Drinks were great, nice vibe, music, fast service, and didnt have to make a reservation. Highly recommended for any occasion. The desert is a must. Main courses are expensive, so i recommend you get a couple appetizers that will get you full enough to not even want a dessert. But then again, leave some space for their delicious and famous desert.
We got the pork belly and the corn for appetizers and tacos for the entrees. Everything was good and cocktails were nice too. The scorpion cocktail has a nice show with it too. Do make reservations and they do take large groups too. We had a Good fun dinner experience. Will definitely go back.
Really good food but loud as hell and definitely more of a party dinner place. Very trendy and cool. Think tacos and tequila at a super decorated swagged out spot with a DJ spinning the dinner tunes.
I loved it, I went for my mothers 53rd birthday and they gave us sombreros and mustaches, lol so mex tex (flip hair)... Our server was our highlight, her name is Isabel, probably with double L idk, but she was so sweet and warm and attentive !
I came here for the 1st time with friends. We reserved a table and was seated at a round table in the middle of the floor. Had the pleasure of meeting one of the staff , older black gentleman with soft gray hair , making what I believed he called a smoking scorpion. He even extended the courtesy of me watching make the flaming drink for another table. I appreciate that experience because is was quite busy even for a Thursday night. Food was filling. I don't remember the name of the exact dish I ordered but it was shrimp on a skew on top creamt coconut rice.
Bodega Negra is an extremely hip bar / restaurant serving very good food. I think the food, the service, and the ambiance are all 5 stars. Price is a big negative -- really out-of-pace with what is offered. What to order: the quesadilla rustica is amazing -- just enough heat to wake you up and make you take notice. Then, head for the tacos: lobster, duck, steak. The best taco is the duck taco. Stay away from the lamb taco -- it's really average. Drawbacks: price, price, price -- then the drink menu. Beer and wine options are embarrassing.
Dine in for a friend's bday and I have to say my experience was great. The scene was very dark but romantic. Plenty of ppl dinning on a Saturday night. We had reservations for 10pm but wasn't seated until abt 10:30-40. The hostess explained the wait wouldn't be long but after 30 mins and watching several other parties be seated I asked again what was taking so long? We finally were seated and I got a chance to view the menu. Several great options to choose from but DISCLAIMER: the food prices are very expensive. Appetizers start ard $20 pp. We ordered the duck and lamb tacos. The duck was ok but the lamb was great. Drinks are really good but also expensive. This is a perfect date to take someone if you really want to show off. Dress casual but trendy and afterwards you can try your luck upstairs at the bar in the Dream hotel which is for the upscale partier.
Great decor, exceptional tequila selection, delicious food with interesting variances on Mexican dishes. Excellent service. Loved the Dia de Los Muertos menu. Portions are a bit small for the pricing and the sound level is really too loud for normal conversation if you are in the main dining room where the DJ plays.
Located in the trendy (read: expensive), Dream Hotel Downtown, this dark and sexy modern Mexican restaurant offers the perfect balance between sexy and romantic. Perfect for both a date night or just grabbing drinks while people watching. And the people are gorgeous. The staff, the patrons and the many hotel guests you run into while navigating to the restrooms are all dolled up for a night on the town. We had the Don Huevo, the Tres Leches Cake and cocktails. Very good all around. Would go back for dinner.
A trendy upscale Mexican restaurant that specializes in agd tequila and mezcal. Very noisy and crowded, but the dark atmosphere hides the other tables a bit. Drinks are fantastic with a good selection of tequila and mezcal, including some spicy fiends that go great with the food. The mezcal has a great smokey flavor and goes so well with slow cooked meat. The food was also superb. The gucamole was very fresh, bright, and crisp and the chips were excellent. The jalapeno poppers were good, but could have been spicier and smokier to add more full flavor. The quesadila was like a pizza and just incredible. The tacos are meant to be shared family style, so bring a few friends to, like pokemon, try them all. The Peking duck ones were nice and citrusy, though the meat was hidden a bit by the flavors of the sauce. The pork were also good but a bit dry and lost in the toppings. The chicken was excelent and shone through the cheese and guacamole toppings. The steak was also good and well seasoned. The crab was far and above the star. It was crispy, tangy, and crabby in all the right ways and just beautiful. For desert, the flan was pretty good, though honestly much alike any other flan I've had. The Don Huevo is super unique and must be experienced. It's a giant sphere that they pour hot chocolate over which bursts and melts the shell, exposing the chocolate goodies inside. So good. The service was a bit disappointing as the drinks and food were great, but they didn't seem to make much effort. The bartenders were spacy and the waiters bored.
The place is pricey ($8 for a Pacifico beer is a ripoff) - but you are paying for the package. Place is trendy, low light, loud music and at a cool spot in NYC. If that's what you're going for then it is ok. We had the guacamole (which was average),the rustic quesadilla (very nice crispy pizza feel to it) and the tacos - beef and duck. The tacos where the high point of the meal - very good indeed. For desse we had the specialty desert, which is awesome if you are a chocolate person. The margarita selection wasn't large but they were ok. The service is quite good - punchline is: if you want to go to trendy place for drinks and apps, this is a good option, but for meals NY has better places to go.
I liked the food and the atmosphere alot. Great for a small group (6-8 people) Stay away from the cooked fish items, except the fish tacos. Rest of the menu was phenomenal. Service was ehh
Loved the vibe of this place! The food was great and the drinks were super strong. We came here for my sister's birthday and I was immediately taken back at how beautiful the inside of this place is. The service was friendly right off the bat and the drinks came out quickly. Our server even gave us some free tequila shots to celebrate my sister's birthday! I ordered the scallops and they were A+. Would definitely get these again. The margaritas were pretty large and they also have one of those dome desserts where they pour chocolate sauce on top and it reveals the dessert underneath. The basic white chick in me loves these desserts, even if they aren't blowing me away taste-wise. Great spot!
Social media really hyped up this place with the melting dome desert which is initially what peaked my interest. The mood music was great, mostly 80's/90's classic rock, contemporary house which was really enjoyable. The decor was unique in design with wooden kegs on the wall as a design which reminded me of my time in Dublin, Ireland. The lighting in there was eerily dark that it was difficult to see across the room or even take a picture. When I was able to see. . It was a waiter or busboy staring at our table to see if we finished our meal to pick up the plates or needed additional beverages etc. Just a friendly suggestion, adding a bit more lighting will bring more life to the establishment & create a fun environment. Food was okay, I've had better Mexican food from small business owners for half the price and with 2x the amount of food served. The desert that I was so excited for didn't meet my expectations which was a huge disappointment but the overall presentation was great! It was a birthday celebration and I asked if they can write "Happy Anniversary" and they did on a custom printed banner (extra brownie points, thanks) over all I gave 4 stars because the service was great! Would I be a returning customer? Not likely, but thank you for the experience!
I went on a Thursday at 6:30 with a group of 8. Ambiance: Place is vibrant, music is super good and loud (so not ideal for deep conversations). Decor is funky. Food: I don't think I can remember all the things we ate but I'll mentioned the dishes that stood out to me. The soft crab shell was amazing. The ribs were tasty as well as the chicken tostadas. The steak which you can make your own fajita with, also yummy. The guac was yummy but portions too small. Tuna Ceviche was super tasty but the portion was barely enough for a baby (and you're expected to share). For dessert we had the Don Huevo, churros and tres leche cake. They were all amazing but I loved dipping the churros in the don huevo caramel sauce the best; you should try it. Service: Out waiter was amazing but our drinks too longer than the food to get to the table so they might want to hire an additional bartender. We got free drinks at the bar in the back which was a great touch. Overall I was glad I came to this spot. This is ideal for large groups and special occasions.
It's a super fancy place. Good for big occasions like BD or Anyversary. The food was really delicious. Our waiteress was nice. Our table was kind of small for the group if seven people. They got a DJ who is playing the music non-stop. Overall Bodega Negra is a good restaurant. The bill came out for $400 for party of seven including cocktails.
Been here a few times over the years. The food, drink, and ambiance have been consistently very good. Service has been fine; never great, never bad. Must order: Smoking Scorpion cocktail (just go to the bar and order, you'll see why) Don Huevo dessert (odds are you'll see someone else ordering it and say WHAT IS THAT; get this) Should order: Quesadilla Rustica (essentially an open face Mexican pizza) Bodega Guacamole (I'm a very tough critic when it comes to guac but Bodega Negra passes the test) Chilaquiles (not sure if they're on the menu anymore but were absolutely delicious) Can order: Tacos (Skirt Steak, Soft Shell Crab, Pork Belly) Don't have to order: Enchiladas Sarape (very forgettable)
Great food & lively atmosphere. I came for a birthday party and had a great time with friends. The food lived up to the reviews and presentation was nice. I would say the menu is a bit pricey for some items especially the pitchers of sangria and the cost per glass. But if you go out to a restaurant downtown you're usually going to pay a bit more. Portions look small but are very filling. I would come back for more tacos with a side of the guacamole. The steak tacos were my favorite. So tasty and full of flavor. It was delicious! Great experience in my opinion.
Really enjoyed this place. The food was great. Our favorite by far was the shrimp tacos. The lobsters tostada and the pork belly was very delicious as well. The drinks were awesome as well. The decor is nice. Dim lighting perfect for an evening date. The staff is very attentive and service overall was excellent. I would definitely recommend this to anyone that enjoys tacos but also wants a upscale experience to it.
Went for Summer Restaurant Week 2019. The decor is beautiful. Our server was so polite and sweet. She explained the different menu items. We ordered the tacos. Surprisingly the veggie taco was great. We also enjoyed the pork. The chicken taco was too salty and the beef was lacking something. We ordered the Don Huevo additionally for aesthetic purposes. Overall great experience and service.
Cool vibes but I totally recommend going on one of their event nights for music and dancing (like Monday’s or Thursdays). Loved their Don Huevo dessert but the dinner was pretty average for the price point. Good drinks, fun neighborhood — new shrimp tacos were the highlight
A cool pricey Mexican restaurant next to the Maritime hotel. Interesting food menu for a Mexican restaurant. We had the appetizer tower which was plenty of food for 4 people. We weren't even hungry after that but we decided to try some entrees. Had the lobster and pork tacos. They were kind of boring but the Mac-n-cheese was good. Finally the white chocolate dessert was interesting as well. They have a good selection of drinks and tequilas and the service was great.
*The only thing holding me back from 5 stars are price + music* This is a stellar spot. Every dish packed a flavorful punch: highly recommend the corn and crispy pork belly to start. The duck tacos were also incredible. The seared tuna felt a little lack-luster, but this also might have been by comparison to our other dishes. Loved the churros and espresso tequila dessert shot.
The food is good but quite expensive! The portions are not very large for the amount of money that is being spent on it. I was especially disappointed that the entrees didn't come with any sides. This is a good place to go, but be prepared to spend a pretty penny!
Pricey but good ... Stopped in for brunch after the Equinox Highline and ordered the French Toast, Eggs and Bacon... was like the only one there and the wait was about 20 mins. At least it did not disappoint... the portion was huge (as you can see) and quite tasty! That bill tho... you definitely gonna pay that tourist type tab being that Bodega Negra resides within the Dream Hotel.
Overall it was a an ok experience. This is mainly because we had a 9:15 reservation and had to wait 1hr. and 20mins to be seat because an error with their reservations. They did the best to make the best of the situation but by that time the mood was down. Good food and nice upbeat ambiance.
The ambiance is nice! But my advise to you is to eat a hot dog or two before coming to eat here!!!! The portions of the food are SMALL (appetizer sized) compared to the $$HIGH PRICE TAG$$ overall feel was nice but dont forget your check book at home. -tacos are smaller than the palm of my hand.
Had a mediocre experience, this would be an ok place for groups. This restaurant was insanely dark and hard to see, could have partially due to Halloween decorations. Our waitress was slow, but her colleagues filled in the gaps. The food was ok. Ate a non traditional open faced quesadilla which had an oil sprinkled on the top that give it a strange aftertaste. Really enjoyed the side of plantains. Didn't have dessert, but their presentation at other tables was impressive.
Ok spot. Very hip and trendy in the dream hotel. Food and drinks were ok. Nothing special.came here for a company party. Not sure if I would go out of my way to come back. Cocktails are really sweet, and strong, hard to drink. They had tacos and mini burgers ( not exactly Mexican)for us.
Not impressed. The desert deserves 5 but as overall 3 stars. The drinks are different and yes, they are good. The food was well done, it was flavorful, at least what I tried but nothing impressive. The music is ok, even tho it was hard to hear. The space seems to be a bit crowded so it gives the feeling that we were on top of each other. Our waiter was nice but it seemed like he was overwhelmed. The fact that the place is dark...honoring the name the menus are hard to read. Nothing was explained so I ended up ordering meat with no sides...lol also, did not find a great variety on the menu, that also killed my mood. But the desert is worth waiting for 😁😋. The place is in lower manhattan next to a hotel so you can expect the price is going to be high. If I ever go back it won't be on a group.
This was my first visit to Bodega Negra, and unfortunately will be my last. My friends and I made reservations on a Wednesday for 8:30 pm on opentable. We got to the restaurant around 8:10 pm and were told to wait by the bar and we were assured the table would be ready soon. We sat at a little table by the bar and waited for a server to come take our drink order. That took 15 minutes in itself. It was 8:30 and we asked the hostess if our table was ready. They told us that our table was paying and that we would be seated shortly. Another 15 minutes passed and we were still waiting. When we asked how much longer we would have to wait the hostess stated that she can not tell us a time because she would be lying. We were told we could order an appetizer in the meantime. It was frustrating waiting for our table to pay because there were other tables around us that were not occupied. When asked about them they stated that those tables were reserved for other reservations. I am not sure what type of reservation system they go by but they need to work on it. Once seated, the server came over and we explained what had happened to us. He was very helpful and asked for our drink order and he was going to try to get it comped for us. However, the manager came over with shots of tequila instead of the mixed drinks we had wanted. He also had the manager comp the chocolate ball for us. He was the only pleasant experience and was genuinely trying to help us. It seems to be a pattern to not be seated on time even though you have a reservation. It wouldn't have been an issue if we did not see empty tables, therefore I choose to take my business elsewhere.
Typical no-care hotel food. Staff linger in the dining room and the food is edible but not what I would call good. We shared 2 of the Seviche dishes, shrimp was cooked (over cooked) so it was not seviche and had poor flavor and texture. The other was the snapper, this was better than the shrimp but not by much. We also ordered the chorizo empanadas, which were somehow flavorless. All in all it was a poor experience and I'd never go back.
Bodega Negra promised more than it delivered. Right from when we stepped in the service was reluctant or inattentive both at the entrance and at the bar. Our hostess at the table though was sweet, even though a bit whimsical. The drinks were a mix. Happy hour drinks a total fail. Fancy cocktails not too bad, but none was any better than the $18 cocktails at many other places in NYC. Food was a let down. The best items were average. Overall we were disappointed. Paid a lot for a hip place with eclectic decor, but a let down on food, drinks & service.
$19 for two tiny tacos! Unreal! Thankfully that wasn’t what I ordered but my friend was super annoyed (i would be too - it was like $5 a bite!). I ordered the veggie mole enchilada which was pretty good but very heavy. I needed to go to bed right after eating it. Overall this place had subpar Mexican food for outrageous prices.
I had ordered fish tacos and beans as To-Go order, and was charged for those, along with steak tacos. I am pescatarian and received four steak tacos. Crystal said that she would take care of this when I called back down to the restaurant but seemed to rush me off of the phone and did not ask for any contact info in return. The desert was also supposed to include some type of lime dessert , although all I received was a box of fruit. Yesterday evening I visited restaurant and did not have these issues.
Starting out positive, first impressions is great, and if you stay in the bar area it's good, but in the other sections of the places is so dark, it wasn't just slightly dim for mood lighting, it was almost lights out. My group is all you young and we had to use are flash light apps to see anything. So get a flashlight app before going you will need it. To the food first this place is really to expensive, they give you a little Mont of food for a huge price, smh. After leaving and a hour later or so I was hungry again. The quesadilla, guacamole, and the chocolate doom thing was the best but the other food was ok, many other places does it better and cheaper. Even though the quesadilla was the best, it was not worth $20 for a super thin crust with barely any cheese on it. It was almost paper thin, and to add topping or anything is around 5 to 10 more dollars o.0!!! For my entree I have a steak fajita, which was $41' they Said it was 10 ounces of steak but it was more like 5 ounces of steak to 10 ounces of vegetables, and I kid you not it was so dark I couldn't even tell what was one my plate only once I put it in my mouth. I would never go here again because like I said, there are many other places that do Mexican food so much cheaper for a better price, just smh XC!!!
I was so disappointed with the customer service. I had reservations for 10:45pm on October 10, 2015, so I arrived at 10:35pm. My boyfriend and I had a special date and decided to celebrate it at Bodega Negra. An hour passed and we still weren't seated while everyone coming in were being seated within 10 minutes of waiting. I asked about the status of my reservation and the host replied with "About a few more minutes." Those few minutes turned into more than 15 minutes. My boyfriend was already annoyed and just wanted to leave so we ended up leaving. Thanks for ruining a special night.
Horrible experience and will never come back! How can you teach your staff to treat guest soo bad?? This is supposed to be a good place and it was just horrible from the beginning. The STAFF AND SOO CALLED MANAGER IF THAT WAS HIM A WHITE TALL MALE was very disrespectful to me and my family talking down to us . HORRIBLE ZERO STARS IF I COULD .
SAVE YOUR MONEY. Dine somewhere else. Or at least DO NOT USE YOUR CREDIT CARD here.. pay cash. The server that assisted us Isabella added an unauthorized tip amount onto my card. SCAMMER/ FRAUDD Had to jump threw hoops to get the money she took refunded back to my card. I had to Call the restaurants accounting department fax over receipts ect. (thank God I saved them). Call the restaurant back, and get this... there were 3 managers on duty Crystal, Alice and Joe. None of them came to the phone... they just continued to tell the hostess to tell me to call the accounting department. Came here to celebrate my Husbands Birthday 2 weeks ago. Service was Blah. Food was overpriced especially for the small portions you get. I ordered the tacos and got 2 "Very small" Tacos for $23 bucks. The cheapest cocktail on the menu cost $18 and was super weak. Let me remind you this is for mexican food. If you go here beware pay cash do not give your card to these people. Or at least make sure your server isnt named Isabella.
Where do I begin, If you want to go and party thee environment Is a great place to do so. Unfortunately Thee food was horrible! I have never paid so much money for something so nasty, I heard from everywhere that the food is so great so I was truly excited but man was I ever so wrong. Service was okay but man would I have wanted the food to taste so much better then what It actually was. Please If you have any taste buds do not eat this food but if you go for drinks and a party then please by all means go rite ahead, I just have to give a bad review because the food was so bad I would never eat here!
