There are a lot of options for everyone at Japaneiro’s, including fusion dishes (like the chimi fries), vegetarian options and rolls, and plenty of cooked and raw options for sushi. We tried a little bit of everything, but I absolutely loved the chimi fries. They were crispy and topped with a generous serving of avocado/chimichurri and chili powder. The spicy sauce was also amazing. The spicy sugarland roll had fresh buttery tuna and was very filling. Parking was conveniently located with a free parking garage in close proximity to the restaurant I would love to come back and try some more dishes!

Visited this restaurant for a family lunch after perhaps 15+ years - diverted here as we could not get into another restaurant that was our first choice. Thought the place had expanded in space in the intervening years, but Amanda, our server, assured us that that was not the case. Service was friendly - ordered Edamame and Yucca Fries as appetizers and Personal Sushi Sampler, Korean “Guru Bowl” Poke Bowl (Beef), and Veggie Tostadas. Dessert consisted of Chocolate Mousse Cake and Berry Bread Pudding - a shot of Rum ordered separately to soak the bread really helped with nostalgia, after having repeatedly savored Louisiana Bread Pudding at the finest restaurants (not necessarily all in fine surroundings) in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, etc. Food arrived relatively promptly and tasted fresh and flavorful. The meal with tip set us back approx. $130 - not at all cheap, especially for lunch, and sans alcohol (except for a $7 shot of Rum). However, nice to have returned to what was a go-to restaurant 15 years ago!

Delicious Fusion Brunch with Great Service – Just Wish for Outdoor Seating! If you’re in the Sugar Land First Colony area and looking for an incredible brunch spot, Japanerio’s is a must-visit! This Latin-Japanese fusion restaurant offers a unique and flavorful menu that keeps you coming back for more. From the moment we arrived, the service was top-notch—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The food was absolutely delicious, with fresh ingredients and a creative mix of flavors that made every bite enjoyable. The atmosphere inside was lively and inviting, making it a great place to enjoy a relaxing meal. JOHN was take good care of us. One thing that could elevate the experience? Outdoor seating! With this beautiful weather, it would be wonderful to have the option to dine outside and soak in the fresh air. Hopefully, they consider adding this in the future! A small downside is the paid parking, which was a bit unexpected, but overall, the experience was still worth it. Japanerio’s remains a fantastic spot for brunch for us, and we will definitely be back!

If you are looking for a nice place to celebrate or just a great dinner date, I highly recommend Japanerio's! Every time I have come here all of their meals flavor and quality are way beyond average over other sit down restaurants. The beers and mixed drinks were also quality, anything you order here will taste great. For dessert the fried Oreos with ice cream are different and everyone enjoyed it. The booths have high partitions to give you privacy between tables, service was very friendly and informative. I love this place, if you are in the sugar land area, or willing to drive out to try good food, this place is a top pick!

Japaneiro’s has a unique Japanese and Latin fusion. The staff are super friendly, attentive and informative. The overall vibe is modern, chill and trendy. The food has both familiar but distinct elements that makes it worth trying at least once if you’re nearby, and given it’s in Sugarland Town Square, is a good chance if you’re visiting the area or live nearby. That said, the quantity is a bit on the lower side for the price. Still enough to be comfortable but you’re paying for the experience and location. The poke bowl costs as much as a sushi roll which seems like a good value but has a lot less protein than comparably tasting and priced bowls in Houston. Overall, still worth going for just be aware of the premium!

What can I say this place is amazing!! The fusion of Latin and Asian foods work so well. The service was outstanding and fast. We tried a few items off the menu that were recommended by our awesome waiter Johnathan. The beef tostadas and the tres leche were my number one choices. The crab Rangoon and seaweed salad was so tasty. There were a variety of sushi options and they were great and fresh. Honestly everything was so beyond words we will be returning soon. If you looking for a great meal and good service I would check them out.

This was my Birthday brunch. Our group included Birthday mom, Vegan daughter, and super hungry son-in-law. There was awesome food for every diet style. Our waitress was very warm and friendly. As we were first timers a really good wait staff is a real plus. The food was fresh. Veggies were pleasing and fried tempura was crunchy and not greasy. Surprise fried oreo and ice cream Birthday cake finished off a perfect brunch. Great place to dine, visit, have drinks and the prices are very reasonable. We will be back again.

Shame on me for never leaving a review here before. This restaurant puts most others to absolute shame. The mix of Asian and Latin cuisines is a perfect union. Their happy hour is truly bliss. The mojito was on point. The mango bliss was delightful. We ordered several spicy mix rolls, and they were awesome. We haven’t been here in years, and we asked for the crazy Irishman. Our server Ross (who was super nice) told us it hadn’t been on the menu in awhile, but they were able to make it for us, and it was like heaven on a plate. You cannot come here without ordering the avocado cream soup - it is worth coming for all on its own. This is one of the best restaurants in Houston, and that’s a tough competition to win.

Had a lot of fun ordering the sushi boat, since it was my first time. Upon first glance of the menu, I was pretty skeptical of the concept, but the sushi seemed fresh. It was all we ordered besides dessert and drinks. The Mochi Ice Cream tasted exactly like the boxes of My/Mochi you can get at the grocery store. The berry bread was very good. Tres leches was about what you’d expect. We were there for business so we made a reservation for dinner, so not sure about wait times, but it didn’t seem like there were many open tables when we arrived.

My friends and I had such a wonderful experience at Japaneiro's! We went on Friday afternoon for lunch. As we entered the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a kind waitress. She made us feel very welcome and gave us the option to sit outside or inside. There was no wait time and we were immediately seated at a high top table. My friends and I were then greeted by our server. She has such a welcoming attitude and was kind enough to address our questions and explain the dishes we had concerns about. We were so happy to have such a compassionate and thoughtful server who made the whole experience so much better! We were so happy to see the many food options on the menu as there were a variety of choices for all diet styles. There were vegan options, vegetarian options, and even nut free options! The prices were also very reasonable as each dish was around $15-20. We ordered Tostadas for our appetizer. It had a lot of flavor and was crunchy and sour, but at times the sour lemon flavor overpowered the rest of the flavors that were intended to be noticeable. For our first entree, we ordered the El Criollo Roll. We thought this roll was very delicious and well exceeded our standards! The texture of the El Criollo Roll was crunchy, from the plantain chips on top, and soft, from the rice and meat in the middle. The flavor and taste of this dish was exactly as expected by the menu, you were clearly able to taste the beef along with the plantain chips and avocados. The next dish we ordered was the El Gecko Roll. This dish was overall mediocre, it did not stand out to us. The flavors of the salmon and the unagi sauce did not clash well leaving an awkward aftertaste. The texture of this dish however, was great! The crunchy and soft blend from the tempura and rice was unique. The final item we ordered was the Austin Hippie, this dish was overall slightly above mediocre. The flavor of this dish was very vibrant and you could notice all the flavors and different ingredients mentioned. However, the texture was not very unique, it was just soft like most other sushi and had a slightly old fish aftertaste. Overall, we noticed that the food served was extremely authentic and was a clear display of the fusion between Latin and Japanese cuisines. Not only were the food options and service great, paying the bill was very quick and easy! Our group decided to split the bill and our waiter made the process very efficient and simple!

I visited for the first time over the weekend. The first thing I noticed was how beautiful this place is - great atmosphere. We sat a high top in the bar area. We ordered hot sake which was good. I cannot remember the name of the drink I had but it was heavy with basil - I love basil but it was far too much and drowned out the entire cocktail. The sushi, nigiri and edamame were nothing special - it was all good but nothing you cannot find at any sushi or fusion restaurant. It was a nice experience but nothing I would return for unless meeting friends and they chose it.

Sugar Land…we have a problem…the food was incredible and I could not eat any more!! Talk about freshness and well balanced cuisine. What a great fusion concept with perfect decor and friendly, attentive staff! Prices were on point and the location was perfect! Very disappointed! We won't be back. I used to frequent this place back in 2010 and 2011. I remembered it to be a great atmosphere with delicious food. I talked this place up to another foodie friend. We visited for lunch yesterday and we were both extremely disappointed with the food. The service was fantastic! Our waiter was a great guy and even when he asked how we felt about our food and we politely expressed our disappointment, he remained friendly and with a great attitude. The service is definitely not the problem. My friend described the food as bland. I agree! The food didn't look appealing and sadly it failed to deliver in terms of flavor. None of the food tasted fresh. It was embarrassing to have spoken so highly of the food here only to have my foodie friend be as disappointed with our meal as I was. Houston has an amazing food scene. I hope this place can lift their standard to what it once was. It was less than mediocre.

Honestly great happy hour, parking was not ideal. Service was subpar at best. Not sure what is it with this establishment but both times I’ve visited. My servers have forgotten or taken to long to check up on us. Although drinks are allowed to go out this wasn’t an option for my partner and I. Somehow the white people there were treated a lot better. Our server was definitely more attentive to all of their white customers. Not sure but this establishment was not POC friendly. Maybe check a different one or try a different happy hour if your POC. This location is extremely unfriendly and overall slow with service, food and drinks.
