Oh my goodness best food I’ve ever had in Chinese food and I am very picky. This is one of those restaurants that you know is good because even the Chinese people eat here :-) they have a big family table and I’ve seen whole families come and get multiple dishes. My favorite thing is the stuffed eggplant off the dim sum menu but everything is so good !!Hidden gem for sure.
Mainly went for the Dim Sum. NOT disappointed, everything was wonderful. I went there on a Sunday, around noon, so plenty of seating available. Had the wonton egg drop soup, Shrimp rice paste, beef tripe, Shrimp dumpling with chives, siu mai, and the pan fried dumplings. Wonton egg drop was one of the BEST around Tampa that I've tried. Nice and thick with perfectly cooked wonton with a ton of flavor. Meaty, salty, with the silky wrapper. Shrimp rice paste is delicious too. Drizzled with the sauce and big shrimp. Beef tripe full of flavor, nicely cooked and a decent serving. Shrimp dumpling with chives also wonderful, lots of flavor nicely filled and tender wrapping. Siu mai is mot far behind. Came out nice and hot, meat really well seasoned. Nothing overly overpowering in any of them. And the regular pan fried dumpling also made really well, much better than your standard potstickers order. Quick service, as I said before I was there early. Added the qty in the sheet of paper for all the things I got and they brought them out as they were being prepped. Lots of businesses around so parking is a little limited, but place is relatively large so alot of seating.
Operating for 30 years with NO social media !!! Should tell you all you need to know. Amazing food. No it’s not a fancy or spruced up Asian fusion place.. it’s old school and refreshing because the flavor is out of this world. Best dim sum are the little hole in the wall places and this one is it!! My whole meal was under $40 and check out all I got!
This is legit, made on site, Dim Sum. I've had dim sum in top areas including London, Vancouver, New York, DC, Toronto and am very familiar with it. A lot of places bring in premade product and steam them (that's why there's such consistency across different places), but not here. This is clearly made on site and original. I ordered a wide array of dishes and they were all great. I would highly recommend the Ho Ho Choy to anyone who enjoys authentic dim sum. The only thing I personally prefer is the Hong Kong type of springroll vs the Shanghai version I had here. This is a personal preference, however the type served was still very good. Perhaps I missed it on the menu. The service was friendly and efficient, prices reasonable, and the ambiance was that of what you would expect at all small family type Chinese food establishment.
On a trip to Vegas, my wife and I tried a dim sum place -- one with the little old lady pushing the cart and everything. Surprisingly, even after accidentally trying chicken feet, she loved the place and the concept. (Even more surprising that she remembered it at all! She was hammered!) According to the underground dim sum network here in Tampa (not really a thing), this place has good dim sum. Just no little old lady with a cart. That would ha e been the only thing missing, cause the HoHo definitely doesn't lack on anything else! We ordered solely off the dim sum menu, but they have a full regular menu plus a hot pot menu!! Next time! I love hot pot! We had pork dumplings and shrimp dumplings and fried shrimp puffballs and an awesome beef noodle soup, and a fried noodle dish with seafood in an oyster sauce. The last 2 were full dishes big enough to split with 2-3 people (or more, if everyone just wanted a dim-sum size portion). It was all so good! Service was great too -- they started bringing the dishes out very soon after ordering, and it was nice they brought them out as each got ready rather than waiting for all at once -- so if you closed your eyes I guess you could just imagine the little old lady wheeling the cart around. All very friendly. The place itself is not in a real great area, and the building it's in was a tad sketchy too. (Oddly, the building strip had 3 Asian restaurants, a Persian restaurant, a Mexican restaurant and a Mexican food truck -- so it was like a Mecca of good eats). But the HoHo was clean and nice on the inside. You'll be fine, just go. Tell them I sent you. That won't help any, and they won't know who I am even if you explain it -- but give it a shot.
I stumbled across this restaurant and enjoyed our meal!! Everything came out pretty fast and it was all very tasty!! Recommend!! 10/10 *Shrimp dumplings *spicy beef tripe *chive pancake *pork rice paste * pork and century egg congee.
Came here for some duck and found they had a dim sum option. The menu is vast with great selections. The place also offers seafood platters. I was pleasantly surprised in the portion sizes. I ordered the duck, the seafood udon soup, and some small plates of boa
I was impressed with what they served its amazing food the service is awesome and a lot of options for dim sum (the only one I don’t like is the chicken feet it’s too much food color ) other than that everything is great love the duck
Delicious! Excellent portions and service. And roast ducks hanging in a glass warmer. Legit! Probabably the best Pork Fried rice I've ever had..And I'm sorta Asian! Pork chunks as big as dice! Highly recommended..
love love love! i highly recommend this place! the guy was really nice!

I've been going to HoHo Choy since the location on Ehrlich was open. It closed about 20 years ago. Fletcher is the original, and it's still the best. No one does giant, stretchy, delicious sesame + sweet red bean dimsum like they do. Daikon cakes are perfect. I make rice at home but sometimes... I need their veggie fried rice with extra bean sprouts. Yeah, the krab rangoon are quite good. They aren't bready or weirdly sweet and cake-like on the outside, the way some places make them. The outside is crisp and folded into squares for a pocket of filling. But that's really low on the list of what I go for. I know some people don't like how long something takes but the wait is worth it. They run a small restaurant, not a McDonald's. That's why the food comes out so well. I've never seen many people eating in the dining room. It's open and calm, very basic layout and minimal decor- which to me, means a lot more cleaning. Ick. HoHo Choy keeps it simple. Take-out is made to order. Try something you've never had before! Try the dimsum menu!
I’ve tried a lot of Chinese spots, not all of them were good HO HO CHOY is great when in doubt general tsou it out. The lunch special gets you a meal and egg roll or soup and it leaves me feeling like a fat pig. Best Chinese spot around give em some love😋
Best Chinese food hands down in Tampa area.... Beef with garlic sauce is amazing, they actually use real beef unlike all the others that are chewy and not real! Everything I have ordered have been great and good flavor!! Don't listen to the lies, I have tried every Chinese place around Tampa and they are all horrible.. This place is legitimately the only real Chinese food place to eat good food from and good prices for lunch special!

I grew up in the Boston area, renowned for incredible authentic Chinese food. I moved away and have lived in all 4 corners of the country and some states in the middle. Searching for great, authentic Chinese food again and I finally found it on a friends recommendation. It's an hour away from us but worth every second!! Being Florida, things can be less spicy than one would expect so if you want it a little spicy just ask, although it's all delicious either way. You will not be disappointed!!
Enjoyed dinner.... dine in brought us hot, fresh prepared dishes that were tasty. Atmosphere is dated but clean. Service was good. Friendly staff. Would I go again?. Yes.

Although the Congee was full of flavor, the rest of the plates were just meh..... I'll try it again to make sure they weren't just having a off day.....
Here for Dim Sum and it was hit or miss. Some items are ok, and some are disappointed. Using tea bags to me is considered cheating.....

Tried this restaurant based on reviews but a little disappointing. The restaurant decor was nice and staff was friendly, but had to ask for items instead of having it available during service, like drink straws and napkins. Extensive menu like a typical Chinese take out / dim sum. Not sure where to start on the food...The pork ribs was tough, gamey, and has on off smell. The chicken feet was bland and came in varying shades of red. Pork meat buns - the buns itself was soft and perfect, filling was a little suspect as you can't tell if it's pork as it was grounded up extremely fine and coated with a thick sauce. Custard cups was in a small side, tasted ok. Sesame balls was on point. Oolong tea was great, especially when washing off the after taste of their dim sum. We ended up getting a braised beef hot pot, took about 20 min, tasty but not a lot of beef, most are filler bok choy, onions and chewy/tough beef ligaments and gristle... The only thing we didn't try is their shabu-shabu, but I doubt it if we'll ever coming back to try it.

This is my second time at this establishment; I ordered 1lb blue crab, chicken feet, and pork fried rice. The blue crab were overcooked, mushy and mostly stuck to the shell; I couldn’t even eat the crab without chewing the shell with it (I ate one of each: the blue crab and chicken feet). The chicken feet were under seasoned and undercooked. The pork fried rice was the only good thing. I brought the crab and chicken feet back for a refund, and though I did get a refund for the crab, the owner threw the chicken feet away and said no refund. He asked me if I wanted him to eat the chicken feet and blue crab in front of me and charge me $120 for it; just blatant disrespect and inability to take criticism. Overall, I do not recommend. He did not throw the blue crab away, I thought maybe it’s to repurpose it and put it on someone else’s plate.
Terrible food , terrible service , and over priced. They woman and man at the register don’t even greet you. First and last time coming to this establishment that was also completely empty midday .Spent $30 on chicken, one egg roll, and crab Rangoon and could only eat the egg roll. Stopped here because it was along the way but definitely not worth it.
Sad, they changed the place and the food... Ordered twice for lunch and both times were horrible.. The hot and sour soup was weird tasting both times and both times were different? The garlic beef was very chewy nothing like before!!! And then I ordered sweet and sour chicken, how do you over cook the chicken and it's so hard and old tasting... So sad, this was my go to lunch special place but now it turned into a disaster and horrible food.. smh
