Nice little place just off the highway! They had very good fried fish, and shrimp! Excellent breading, nice and crispy!! The red beans and rice was excellent! The fried garlic cheese bites could have been a meal by themselves and were amazing!! Clean restrooms and nice staff! Thank y’all so much for the nice meal!

The food was amazing! My husband had the 3 fish, shrimp, and oysters fried with red beans and rice & fries, I had the 3 crab cakes & 3 shrimp fried with hush puppies and fries everything but the fries was homemade and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back!!

This was our first visit to this restaurant. Hubby and I ordered different menu items to compare wings and fish. Both were really good. The selection for sides were minimal, but ample with good choices to accompany their main menu items. The wait staff did an excellent job. Initially I was a bit apprehensive as so many of the wait staff were very young and I falsely assumed they would not take their jobs seriously as in so many other establishments. The young men and women working here were very courteous, attentive and responsible. The food was delicious with good portions. The sides are rather small, but still filled us up and we left with untouched chicken, fish and fries for our next meal. The restrooms here need more attention. Also, a plastic coated canvas sign out by their curb has been blown by the wind which had valuable information on it. We could not see the sign until we got out of our car and went up to read it. This was due to it being wrinkled and the high grass around it. Over all we enjoyed the food and service a great deal. You should try this restaurant, especially if you like fish or wings. We WILL return soon!

Philly cheesesteak was bussin bussin walked out w a full meal sandwich fries and drink under 15$ with a tip. The portions were good size too enough to have leftovers!

We had a party of 15 celebrating a birthday. They were very accommodating. The staff was very friendly and efficient. It took them no time to get our drinks to us. The waiter took our order and made sure if it was separate checks to start so there was no confusion later. The food all came out together and was hot and fresh. Wonderful atmosphere and staff.

Thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Service was excellent and was surprised the atmosphere was so chill. The coleslaw was freshly made, crunchy, creamy and perfectly delicious! The only thing is, it'd be nice to have coffee. We sure will be back to try the varied menu items!

If I could 10 star this restaurant, I would. EVERYTHING about this place was so great. The food is amazing. Not only their fried catfish but the coleslaw, the shrimp, and even their green beans were so delicious! The fried were nice and crispy. The server was fantastic. She was attentive but not overly. She was patient with our needs. I definitely am going back for some more. I HIGHLY recommend this place. First time ever that I tried fried green tomatoes and omgosh, I'm hooked! You've gotta go.

Tried their burger and fries the other day and loved it! Everything tasted great and the service was perfect- even though it was super slow she didn't come over and ask us a million times how we were doing. Their tea was also delicious! Wish I would have taken pictures but I was too hungry to wait!

Today was the grand opening. Their staff was friendly, courteous, and attentive. Their portions are huge and delicious! They offer catfish, tilapia, jumbo shrimp, gumbo, po' boys, burgers, chicken tenders, oysters, salads, and sides.

When I tell y’all this place has the best fried catfish and the shrimp were delicious. Wish this was in my part of Georgia. I really enjoyed my food and they were friendly and courteous. Food was hot and quick. Good decent meal.

The portions are great and very affordable. The staff is friendly and kind. You will leave full and possibly sleepy depending on your appetite. Be warned, the fish pieces are almost filets. I'll be back again sooner rather than later.

I really don't even know where to begin! I'm new to this area and was recently disappointed by another restaurant. Well, that didn't happen today! Everything was ridiculously delicious! Even my picky 6 year old couldn't help himself! Everything was perfectly seasoned and the portion sizes were perfect! The Red beans and rice need to be an entree because they were SO good. You guys could sell buckets of those beans and it wouldn't be enough! You all made a MS girl feel like she was home again. I'm so glad I tried y'all, this is my new favorite spot! 10/10

Has to be one of the best Restaurants in temple, with Texas serving you never know what you get but once I walked in I knew this was gonna be some of the best service I’ve gotten. The server was very attentive and kind and the fried pickles have to be my favorites, my husband loved his grilled fish! My children also loved it!

While “mapping” my granddaughter’s employment I saw Sam’s Southern and as the three of us Love Cajun decided to try. We were a bit skeptic as not many dining but what a surprise! We had okra, fried green tomatoes, fried shrimp, fish, crab cakes, shrimp por boy, fries, red beans & rice, cole slaw & hush puppies. We discussed whether to get grilled or fried but went with the fried. The serving sizes were huge (we had 3 takeout boxes!)and no oily greasiness!!!! The staff were all busy but friendly and prompt bringing iced tea refills so quick! We can’t wait to share our find with friends & bring our out of town visitors!! Thank you Sam’s Southern Eatery!!

Great shrimp and catfish! Maybe the best catfish in town. I asked for extra crispy and they did it right! Some of their plates are huge! My husband and I shared a large plate (3 shrimp, 3 catfish, 3 chicken tenders) and still had leftovers to take home. Hush puppies are good! I wasn't a fan of the flavor profile in red beans and rice, some spices were too heavy for my preference. But overall great food and friendly service, and a quiet atmosphere. We will definitely be back.

It's always the hole in the wall, unassuming places that are the best! That's exactly what we found at Sam's from the moment we were welcomed in. The ice tea was huge! Our meals, Catfish Po-Boys, served piping hot and so so good! Wasn't expecting the extra filet! Best, and I mean BEST Catfish in town! Brian, our server was the bomb! Oh! And dinner for 2 $21 and change!

UPDATE: 05-25-25. I got the 4 pc. Grilled fish dinner. It came with french fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies. It was so good. I actually ate three different times from this plate. It was just that massive. Everything was so tasty! UPDATE We hadn't been here in a very long time. But everything was still really, really good. I got #27, 3 fish, 3 shrimp, Cole slaw, fries...my son got #19, 2 fish, 6 shrimp, Cole slaw and fries. My husband got the Southern single hamburger and fries. I had mine grilled. Everything was so good. I'm sure we'll be soon. If I could give 10 Stars I would. I have never eaten there before but everything my son and I got was so good. I had the grilled fish and shrimp. And there was so much that I had another meal out of it. My son had the crawfish Po Boy. We did not dine in because I am so afraid to do that, so we did take it home. The only thing I did not like was the red beans and rice. The beans just had too much of a smoky flavor for me. But that's just my opinion other people may like it. We will definitely be back again

At first I was skeptical to come to this place based off what I seen on Google. Surprisingly it was definitely worth the visit and I’ll be coming back. The fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly, the shrimp was good, and the crab cake was good but would love for them to have a sauce to go with it. Outside of that the green beans and red beans and rice were decent. The staff were friendly and it looked fairly clean inside. Food was fresh/hot and came out fast! I will be coming back for sure.

We stopped at Sam's Southern Eatery as we were passing through town. We are so glad we did! This place is a 10/10! The sweet tea was freshly brewed and perfectly sweet. We ordered the fried catfish, fried oysters and fried green tomatoes. Each one was the best that I've had in any of those categories. Flavored and fried to complete perfection. The catfish was light and fluffy and crispy on the outside. The red beans and rice were also spectacular. Even though they were a side, they have main dish energy! The price point is absolutely fair. This place is a jewel. I highly recommend!!

I chose slaw and corn for my side while Rick chose french fries and red beans with rice. It was so fresh and delicious. Large portions and plenty to take home for two more meals. Wonderfully Amazing experience all around! Beautiful inside and out! The bathrooms are immaculate! Everything was seasoned to perfection! And I swear you cannot beat their prices to portion sizes! $25 fed me and my family and we still took souch home! (Pictured: chicken strips basket made to order with coleslaw and fresh cut fries, Grilled Oyster poboy with Mac and cheese, and an appetizer of seasoned cheese curds and fried okra! And yes that's a 1 ft by 1/2 ft basket FULL missing a few I snuck off lol for only $6) the only thing I wish they had was gravy! But other than that five star experience. Stop on by and ask for Maci she'll do you right everytime!

Pretty good choice when you’re hungry for fish and shrimp. I’ve always chosen fried, but a healthier grilled version is available. Served hot out of the fryer in generous portions for the price, the catfish fillets hit the spot. Most impressive is the size of the shrimp which can pass for freshly harvested. Two sides … red beans and rice along with a cup of tasty coleslaw and an extra order of hush puppies make the 3 pc catfish and 6 shrimp entree plenty to share. But the choices are many. This building has been home to many attempted restaurants, but Sam’s Southern Eatery is apparently in it for the long run. It’s tough to break that snake-bitten enigma that befalls certain buildings, but Sam’s seems to have overcome.

The environment was really calm and laid back which was great. The waitress was super nice including the waitress that greets and seats you. However, the green beans were spicy, the mac and cheese wasn't the greatest by far, and the burger was bland. On a positive note, the coleslaw was awesome, the crab cakes were amazing, and the shrimp was wonderful. Definitely stick to ordering the seafood here. The kids loved the chicken tenders though and they give a ton with the kids meal.

The menu is decent and made for more traditional fried and grilled meals. Had a fried fish and shrimp meal, the red beans and rice need to be a meal in themselves.

Fried fresh, hot, and appetizing! My review is based off a first impression. Don't let the quite basic interior (mostly wood) cause any wrong perceptions. There are a few frames or artwork, with a TV and music for dining entertainment. The unused bar area at the front could use some spirit, but for a Friday night, their dining room was pretty packed. Good indication! Yep, their great fried food hit the spot! We called in for a pick-up order: shrimp, crab cakes, fish, hush puppies, and fries with a side of fried oysters. I was craving those fried oysters. They aren't dinky little pieces either. They serve up some pretty large shrimp too. Of all the fried goodies we ate, I'd definitely have their oysters, shrimp and fish again!

Food is great!..everytime I go it's very consistent..the dining room could use some upgrades..better lighting..but overall customer service was great try them out!

Fish and shrimp are delicious! The 1st time we went, I ordered grilled Catfish but they brought me fried. That's fine, I was hungry and had been on the fence, but trying to be good, fate having other ideas. I did mention to the person who brought the food(not our waiter). 30-minutes later, Our waiter, who came over for the 1st time since we received our food, brings out the grilled catfish. I told them, "No Thank you, I'm full now". I WOULD NOT have liked to eat 30-minutes after everyone else at our table... We went again last night. I ordered everything fried as it was delicious previously and didn't want to tempt fate. Got our order, got extra tarter sauce and lemon brought to our table, didn't see our waiter for 30-minutes. No 2-minute food check-up...no checking for refills. I have been a waitress for 16 years of my life. Kids were all young but they need better training. Otherwise we left, full, fat, and happy. Food was delicious both times.

It could have felt more comfortable with some type of music playing, it was noisy from the loud staff in the background to loud basketball playing on the TV. Best catfish in Temple unless Chuck's reopens on West Adams with catfish on their menu.

Amazing food!!! The Philly is 100% worth getting. I'll just be asking for extra peppers/onions next time but regardless if I had it the way I did today then I'd never complain. Wonderful! My only reason for giving 4 stars is that it does take a good long while to make. That can be okay if you're going for dinner, but ordering ahead to try to do a quick pickup is pretty much impossible. It's a double edged sword bc that's means it is fresh all the time but it does make it hard to swing by and wait 20 minutes when you already ordered 20 minutes before even that. I just will ensure I'm not in a time crunch when I want some of the delicious food they make here. That's the ONLY complaint. Otherwise, it is clean, delicious, high quality, and the portions are far worth the price.

Good food at very good prices! This is one of the unassuming places I look for when I travel. It doesn't look like much and it isn't all done up but the food is great and affordable! Wasn't too busy but there is a steady flow. Decent sized place so families and groups are not an issue. Very low key, laid back. Food is definitely a good value. Catfish is very clean and has been properly trimmed! Would be on my regular visit list if I were a local!

Went here to try it out and see if it lived up to the hype. The service was good and pretty quick as they were a little busy for Saturday lunch. Ordered the Four Piece Fish with coleslaw and red beans and rice and the 25 Piece Popcorn Shrimp with coleslaw and Mac n cheese and extra hush puppies, we didn’t know each meal came with two hush puppies. Everything was delicious, except the Mac n cheese, it was cheesy but the noodles weren’t cooked long enough. Would definitely come back and try something else on the menu.

The food here is always delicious and fresh.  Their special Sam’s sauce will make you never want regular tartar sauce again.  I wish I had pictures of everything that I’ve had from here, but I’m usually so happy to get my food I forget to take pictures.  Their fried catfish fillets, whole catfish, shrimp (not pictured) and crab cakes (not pictured) will not disappoint!  The french fries and hush puppies are always great too.

First and foremost I was referred by family and friends to come try it out. Brought my mom cause she loves fish. We sat down and ordered and our food which came out within a short time. Food came out great. Upon the time we were eating and almost done I sat and waited for a waiter or waitress to offer a refill or ask if everything was alright, can I get you a box or etc. My dissatisfaction came when I sat there for over 30-45 minutes and still no one came even though they were going to some tables and standing by the register just chit chatting. I had to go ask for my own ticket and a togo box. Asked to speak with Manager, who came out. I introduced myself and explained the situation and that he needs better customer service. Waiters and waitresses were still standing around or sitting at a table. Yeah, I recommend to just order takeout! Definitely not a place for dining in!

Atmosphere is dark and outdated but clean. Nothing fancy but it's dark , with all the brown furniture, brown walls. Food portion sizes seem to have declined over the last year but it still taste delicious and served fresh. Employees can be a lot more friendlier. No smiles, no thank you come again, no have a nice day ......nothing. They say," Here's your order", hand you your bag and walk away. Plenty of parking and handicap accessible. No drive thru but you can call in an order and pick it up.

Your menu states "red beans and rice". This is second time we've received our orders with freholle beans and rice, with spicy red chareso type oil floating on top of the dish. I'm (we're) not a fan of spicy food. I'm not into purchasing heartburn. Please consider standardizing you cooking process, or change your menu to a customer choice. This has been happening on the weekends. Thank You!

My biggest complaint there wet too many flies! I was conflicted about what to order so I too a chance and tried the Philly cheesesteak. The waitress was friendly but she came back to the table too much. I just wanted to take my time and enjoy my birthday. She was very attentive unlike some other places you go too. I enjoyed the quietness with some of my fav music playing. This was my first visit and it was definitely alright.

My wife and I went here to eat. Their AC wasn't working properly or they just like it at 85 to 90 degrees in the dining room. Then they bring our food and I asked for tartar sauce and was told that was tartar sauce It Romoulde sauce. Even if they say it's tartar sauce, tartar sauce isn't pink.There was only one car in the parking lot, but the dining room had trash on the floor and under the tables. When we went to pay, they asked wife her,even though it was our waitress, my wife said her name though and the girl went into the kitchen and came back out to say your order isn't ready. My wife said you just gave us our food. We are here dine in. I Will say the food was good just so online or call in and pick it up. Oh get your own tartar sauce!

We came in a review from a friend but were thoroughly disappointed. We dined in, but had to eat with plastic silverware. We ordered the fried green tomatoes. They had no flavor, soft and were actually red tomatoes. I ordered the #31 which had fried fish, shrimp and crab cakes with red beans and rice and hush puppies. The red beans and rice were Felicia. Everything else was not great. The fish was hard with no seasoning and crab cakes were over cooked on the outside. My husband ordered a chicken Philly cheese steak. It was made with cubed pieces of chicken. He did not like the flavor either. Atmosphere was great and our waitress was attentive.

I walked in the door, the girl who greeted me was not very nice. I said that I would like to place an to go order and she snapped back “go the register!”. Her attitude and customer were garbage, I love the food but the cashier/waitress was wearing what looked like a sports bra and daisy duke shorts……come on really? That is so distasteful!!!

The food has always been good. Enjoy the cozy atmosphere. Unfortunately, I don't know if under new management or what but on November 14, 2021, it was not a good experience. The hush puppies were under cooked, no extra fish or shrimp. Told the wait staff about hush puppies and they knew they were mushy. No apologies or offer to correct the problem. Not sure about going back. Too bad cuz really enjoyed the food in the past.

Terrible service, adequate food. Not worth the trip to eat here. Both our orders were wrong, I requested grilled fish with red beans and rice and green beans. I got fried fish and sent it back. Got grilled fish back but coleslaw and green beans. Didn’t bother sending it back again. Simply put, the food was terrible. I had the catfish with red beans and rice. The catfish had good seasoning but the fish inside was mediocre at best... dry, flat and rubbery. Probably the cheapest brand of catfish I've ever eaten. Almost tasted like processed fish, not fresh at all. The beans and rice were mushy, more like beans pressed into a sauce. I couldn't find a whole anywhere. Glad I ordered the kids menu, because I couldn't fish the small meal... pushed half of it back, paid and left. I ordered water, which wasn't filtered and tasted like city water, which I couldn't drink.

I should have noticed the reviews about spoiled food and food poisoning before spending $30 on really dry catfish and shrimp cooked in dirty grease that you can smell with every bite. I only ate about a fourth of the meal before throwing everything outside from disappointment and disgust. I started feeling sick immediately and woke up vomiting that same night with food poisoning. Extremely overpriced for the quality and portion size as well. The sides were a fraction of what would've been served had I gone in instead of calling in for take out. Save yourself the trouble.

If I could give negative stars I would. This was the worst experience the food was horrible fish so over cooked you couldn't but it my husband's grilled shrimp look like it was smashed on a griddle and kicked around. Chicken had no flavor the ranch was rancid and when they brought our food out the brought a cloud of gnats with it. The service was horrible and the manager seemed like he had no idea what he was doing and I asked 3 times what kind of fish it was to be told catfish it is not catfish!

***CAUTION*** FOOD POISONING*** My family dined in at this establishment on October 30th. We ordered fish fillet with shrimps, hush puppies and fries. All was good until the next morning. I started vomiting in the middle of the night. I didn't think nothing of it, until my 1 year old started to vomit as well. Anyone with children would know how angry any parent would be if an establishment failed to upkeep their facility and caused their baby to become sick. We ultimately had food poisoning and we were out of commission for 2 days. Mind you this is Labor day weekend! I called the establishment the next day. Explained what happened to the employee and they said the manager Mo would be there by 1pm. I called at 2pm and explained the situation again to another employee and they said the manager isnt there and they don't know what time or if they will be there that day at all. I gave up calling again. It became pretty obvious that this business does not care that their customers are getting sick. Wish we would've checked their prior one ⭐️ reviews, as they mention food poisoning as well. The owners need to own up to the situation and resolve it immediately and apologize. Something which is not seen in any of their feedback. I will be focusing my energy in reporting this to the health department. As a first time father, it was almost terrifying seeing my one year old having food poisoning. I wish this situation on no one and would recommend against eating at this establishment.

I am from Fort Worth, I came down to visit and stopped and ate here and the food was absolutely disgusting! Employees was dressed very tacky and not professional at all.

Is it always that hot in there??? That's nuts.... the waitresses was horrible I gave a $20 to the sweet spanish lady mopping cause she was the nicest one there. I told her she was better then what they gave us in there. The woman explained that there'd be hushpuppies and we get only ONE tiny size of a quarter hush puppy. THERE IS NO CHANGING TABLE FOR A BABY WITH A BLOWOUT. Had to change him in the car. But shoot August heat felt better than in there. Im never coming here again.

Walked in and ignored by two servers. Seated ourselves and restaurant was so hot decided not to stay! No a/c! Fish and seafood in a hot restaurant is not good. Hope the kitchen had air at least.

The food was great! Although the service could have been better. I noticed that my server Cierra had an earbud in during my whole visit and seemed to be having a conversation with someone on the phone. At one point I was looking around for her but couldn’t find her, the other server working came to check on me and I ended up placing my order with her. Cierra came back shortly after and took care of me for the rest of my visit but I just wish she would’ve been more attentive.

This place used to be delicious and clean. Now, nasty and nasty. The ac has been broke for months. The bathrooms are so nasty I'm afraid to even walk in there to wash my hands. Not that there was any soap to use. The chicken strips were so hard I almost chipped a tooth. The hushpuppies were dry and tasteless. The rolls tasted like they were cooked in month old fish oil. Fries tasted like stale oil. Such a disappointment.
