We had a group dinner here and they were extremely accommodating. Had our table in a separate room (entry). Great flavor and interesting mix of spices. I tried the scallops and salmon -- both prepared perfectly (not overdone, Great texture). The octopus appetizer was a huge hit at the table. The servers were very attentive but not too much. Highly recommend.
This fine dining experience was quite unique. It takes place inside a Victorian house. The modern Californian cuisine with an Indian fusion twist was creative and delicious. Plus, you have the flexibility to choose from a 3, 4, or 5 course menu. Definitely will come back to try the other items on the menu.
Probably had the best meal of the year at All Spice this evening. Phenomenal Vegetarian multi course menu with an equally good wine pairing. Can’t believe I went many years without coming back to this space. Excellent service from Rome too.
Truly special dining experience. The outdoor dining space is attractive and comfortable. The menu can be ordered in 3-5 courses. Wine pairing is $10 per course. We were celebrating an anniversary and opted for champaigne. I started with potato croquets which were incredible. There were two vegetarian starters but I went with the non-salad for something more unusual. Absolutely delicious with varied texture and tastes along with very fresh green and vegetable components. For my main I had the polenta. Polenta is a common vegetarian option and when I see it I have doubts. This was INCREDIBLE! So creamy, it melted in my mouth. The tastes hit several different notes all played in an outstanding, enjoyable cuisine chorus.Peaches! The cheese cake texture let you know great care was taken in its preparation. I'd never had a brulee topped cheesecake and it is amazing. The bread and spread and pea-based tasters added to the top-notch eating. Thank you, All Spice!
Tucked away along El Camino is this quaint and lovely place that serves Modern Californian Cuisine. You can select 3, 4 or 5 plates from their tasting menu. But whatever you decide to order, expect to have a delicious and satisfying meal. Highlights were the Yuzu-cured salmon crudo, Crispy Thai-style chicken wings, and Iberico presa acorn-fed pork steak. The desserts were equally sumptuous. The staff is friendly and not overbearing. One of the better meals I’ve had as of late.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary. 4 stars for the food, rounded up to 5 overall. Decently priced tasting menu with a variety of choices. My hubs and I decided on 3 courses each (2 appetizers and 1 main). My two favorite dishes were the complimentary chilled butternut squash soup and the peach and tomato tart. The soup was an excellent start especially on a hot day! The tart was so good and had hints of truffle. Since I've never had venison, I gave it a shot. Unfortunately I did not enjoy this dish as much but I think it's more that I don't like venison vs how it was prepared. It reminded me a bit if how lamb tastes and I do not enjoy lamb either. I was very jealous of my husband's oxtail though. That was amazing ! Everything was presented/plated very well too. Service was also excellent. Very friendly staff and attentive with refilling water quickly and went off their recommendations for some of our choices. The restaurant was also super cute in a converted house with its own parking lot. It is tucked away from the street though and you could easily miss it (thank goodness for Google maps!). The lot was full that day but we were able to snag street parking right behind the lot.
I really like this fine dining restaurant. The food presentation, taste and variety does elevate the level of experience. Been to many high end restaurants, but for the price point and service (nothing extravagant but attentive) this restaurant shines. All the dishes were thoughtful and had plenty of umami. Worth going back again when they refresh the menu. The menu is somewhat prefix as you can choose from a few options. Overall a great restaurant to visit.
Best in San Mateo and the food is at Michelin one star level. Love the aged beef scallops onion soup and black cod. Well we actually liked everything, including the bread and butter. The restaurant is behind other buildings at the main street. Plenty of parking and not too many people there for weekday night. Also very glad to see when the check came, no ridiculous so called employee benefits fee added like many other fine restaurants thought they are entitled to charge their customers. Love everything and will be back.
Wow, I really love this place. World fusion cuisine at its finest. Every dish is a unique adventure of exciting colors, aromas, flavors, and textures. The dining experience is almost like a mini vacation to a new country you have never been to before. Each plate is a beautiful work of art, blending exquisite sights, smells, and tastes. Everything on the menu is fantastic. Cannot wait to go again. Many gluten free options.

Very nicely done, 2 friends and I went and each had the 3 dish option and it was just the right amount. Great ambiance, nice owner and great food!!

My wife and I have been going to All Spice for the past ~4 years. It’s one of our favorite restaurants ever. Incredible food and drinks, staff, atmosphere, and consistency. I can’t remember a dish that wasn’t well-cooked. Lots of flavor in their dishes. They never disappoint. Although I wish they’d bring back the mushroom crème brûlée!! We’ll certainly be back soon!
Excellent experience tucked away in a corner of San Mateo that I didn't know existed. The restaurant looks like it must have been a house but tastefully and quirkily decorated as a higher end but cozy local fine dining destination. Service was extremely warm and friendly and the dishes were laid out beautifully and artfully. I understand it used to have a Michelin star and service and plating seemed to reflect it. I thought the food was delicious - venison was very tender, not gamey at all and the "haute dot" sauces were packed with flavor but a few other dishes didn't quite reach perfection (for ex.: butternut squash cheesecake had a great flavor profile but the crust was on the mushier side). All in all, a solid experience and one of the better fine dining establishments in San Mateo.

Tried out this well-reviewed restaurant. Good ambiance near the highway exit, yet surprisingly serene. Convenient parking available. Despite being a weekday evening, the restaurant was lively. While the atmosphere matters, the focus remains on food quality. Soft bread, but the soup had an unusual curry-like flavor. For appetizers: Poached, chilled calamari, and Smoky shrimp with spiced watermelon. Both delicious, especially enjoyed the texture of the calamari. Ordered Miso marinated breast of squab and Australian wagyu coulotte steak for mains. Personally not a fan of squab, preferred the Wagyu steak, perfectly seared on the outside. Desserts: "Pineapple Express" cheesecake and Cake 'n Ice Cream. Cheesecake tasted mediocre, and both ice cream and chocolate cake were average. Red wine pairing was okay, and reasonably priced. Dinner is worth a try, but for special occasions like an anniversary, might explore other options.
I had been wanting to visit this place for a long time and somehow never found the right time to go. I was pleasantly surprised to know that they had begun brunch services on Sunday and finally gave it a shot. The outdoor patio was nicely decked up with a welcoming atmosphere and the hostess was kind enough to turn on the heaters for us in the mildly cold conditions. We ordered an Avocado toast, Cajun Shakshuka and a Cadillac of Pancakes. Now speaking of a fine dining restaurant, the fundamental principle is that along with providing a gastronomic experience, they ensure that you can taste each of the flavorful ingredients that make up the dish. I was glad they did not let us down on this particular aspect. The presentation of each dish was great even for brunch items. The only letdown was the Shakshuka which didn’t really feel like one. The avocado toast was great with a good number of toppings to go along but note that the avocados are sliced and placed instead of being smashed and spread on the sourdough bread. The Cadillac of pancakes baked in oven were the killer dish spectacular visually and in taste too. The berries, jam and the cream on the were an amazing combo to go with the pancakes. Would love coming here again and try their regular dinner menu too once but meanwhile, if you would like to have something extravagant for brunch in a fine dining setting, this would be a great choice of place to visit.
Was here for dinner as part of a corporate group. We had a pre fixe dinner and choice of appetizers, entree and dessert. Located in a nondescript portion of el Camino of San Mateo, I was pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere and quality of food at this establishment, which is definitely Michelin worthy. In case there’s any doubt, I would hardly characterize the food as Indian. I went with the seafood route - halibut for appetizer and salmon for main. Artfully presented and full of different flavors, the food was pretty amazing. Will definitely consider coming back. Service was attentive.
Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Overall: A great choice for prefixe. The extended review… Food: 4/5 - The menu set up is great with a bunch of different options depending on how hungry one is. I love that you can choose 2 entrees and 2 desserts if you so desire. Service: 4/5 - Friendly and attentive service. Ambiance: 5/5 - The setting is very nice. It’s a well set up restaurant that isn’t so claustrophobic and it’s definitely quieter so that you can have good conversation over a very well crafted meal.
A cozy fine dining restaurant with Indian notes. The courses were delicious. The Crudo was fresh and I like the pineapple accents. The ribeye was also cooked perfectly medium rare. The Lemon posset was also a refreshing way to end the meal. We were also served a complimentary amuse bouche to start the meal, along with bread and shallot butter. You have the flexibility of selecting which dish you want for each course, along with the number of courses you want for your meal. You can also select two appetizers instead of one appetizer + one dessert which I thought was nice. In terms of service, it didn’t really stand out to me. It took a while for the main course to arrive after the appetizer, granted our group was on the larger size. The interior is unique and cozy while being somewhat casual.

Nothing really stood out or felt memorable. The entree meat was tough to chew and overcooked, though the appetizers were amazing. Aside from one or two starters, the mains just weren’t that good. The dessert was decent but also nothing memorable or standout.

The environment was quiet and private, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. While the space has some character, the overall setting felt fairly average and did not reflect the level of a more refined fine dining environment. Despite these positives, the food itself did not meet expectations. Most dishes tasted very similar, and the overall flavors were consistently too salty, whether from the seasoning or the sauces. Even for someone who enjoys bold flavors, this felt excessive rather than intentional. The cod we ordered was also slightly burnt, which was disappointing at this price point. For two people, the bill came to over $250. While the ingredients appeared decent, the value was not there. Given the pricing, the dishes lacked refinement and balance, and the experience overall was not one I would recommend.
I went to the restaurant with a lot of expectations. However, we were very disappointed with the food. The appetizers were decent. Gnocchi was very dry and the cream was very tangy. The dessert was very sweet. The only silver lining was the staff, that was very friendly and paid attenton to our needs.

The service was excellent and very attentive. But the food was not worth the price. I ordered 4 dishes from the prix fixe menu, 2 starters, a main, and a dessert. The first 3 all had very similar curry flavors, so it felt like I was eating the same thing over and over again. Location is a bit hard to find, so slow down a lot or you'll miss the turn. I thought the facilities were fine, but they may want to fix the slightly uneven floors because they're interfering with the upscale vibe the restaurant is attempting.
