A surprisingly good find. We were looking for a nice place to ear nearby after the Maker's Faire, and in San Mateo. The place is a standalone charming turn of the 20th century house structure in the back of a parking lot. The service was excellent. The food was a delicious eclectic mix of French style (i.e., very pretty, delicate, lite) with Indian infusion. It worth experimenting as everything we tried was delicious. I rarely write a review but this was deserved.
Dinner as both food and a work of art. Located in a charming little victorian in the middle of a small parking lot (!), decorated in a quirky yet cozy manner. Owned by a married couple; he's the chef-artist and she runs the front of the house and is sommelier. You arrive to a warm greeting which sets the tone for the delights to come. There is a tasting menu of 3, 4, or 5 courses. Each course is a complex assembly of ingredients and tastes, meticulously constructed. One can only imagine the time and effort that went into the experimentation required to achieve the delicious results.
Inside is more charming than their outdoor experience. The food is excellent, innovative and well presented. Great for a date night or special occasion.
I last reviewed this fabulous restaurant shortly after they opened almost a decade ago... All Spice is better than ever in spite of this crazy time we are living in. Chef Chopra’s innovative cuisine is worth the flight / drive to San Mateo if you enjoy truly original cuisine with influences from all over the world. Whether the appetizers, main courses or deserts you won’t be disappointed.... Everything was absolutely delicious... For the record, we had Scallops (perfectly cooked) , stone fruit salad with frisée on a thin layer of smoked ricotta (delicious), Lamb loin and a steak both served with an array of veggies (cooked to perfection and beautifully presented), followed by a cheesecake and an outstanding malted chocolate kulfi (amazing!)... congratulations and thanks to Chef Chopra and his wife Shoshana for a wonderful evening... we can’t wait to go back!
The food is art. Even the beverages are wonderful. I chose a sweet chai iced tea and it's wonderful. Starting with pan seared scallops and then galloping into a sea bass that was extraordinary. The Indian chef is french trained and makes exquisite combinations that truly make the food, art.
Informal fine dining with a savory comfort-food-with-a-twist menu. I don't know that I would call it a $$$$ restaurant; I've had much less interesting meals for just as much (a little over $100/head including tip for appetizers/entree/dessert/wine) at garden variety hipster restaurants in San Francisco. A great date restaurant. The "wine on draft" is a saucy, very reasonably priced red that is perfect for savory dishes. The entrees and appetizers are filling/not small; don't know about the tasting menu. Not sure if I would tire of the menu if I visited frequently, but this would be a terrific once every few months stop, or more frequently if your friend/SO is enthusiastic. The malted chocolate kulfi: I am not a dessert eater in general, but wow. Unbelievable string of foodgasms.
Really amazing flavors and experience. I was surprised by the portion size, figuring it would be more of a tasting menu - it's not, it filled is both. Though choosing the 5 course over the 3 had the benefit of allowing us to try more even if we couldn't finish everything.
Enjoyed a great meal all All Spice and was pleasantly surprised by the bill. I got the sense that they aspire to be in the same league as Flea Street Cafe, at 70% of the cost.We had two appetizers: "Ode to my wife, part II" (not so good) and Scallops (excellent). The Sea Bass, Shortrib Vindaloo and Eggplant Dosa were all excellent. Price included one round of drinks, appetizer, main course, a couple of shared desserts, tip and tax. We'll be going back! Update: had another excellent meal! This is a winner!
This place had amazing dishes. It provides such a unique atmosphere since the setting is in a small house. Outside of the general menu they have a chefs tasting menu which is recommended for the full experience
I'm usually pretty skeptical of online reviews, but found the Zagat review to be spot on. It's easy to pass this place by - I did for a couple of years. It's set back from the road amidst a string of aging, non-descript, small business store fronts. The name - All Spice - suggested that this was just another of the many Indian buffet joints that dot the Peninsula. Nothing could be further from the truth. Though this restaurant clearly has Indian influences, they are just that...influences. I'd place the cuisine (and ambiance) much closer to Chez TJ than to Amber, for example. I'm easily bored by traditional menus, often finding only an item or two that really interests me. The reverse was true here: with so many creative and intriguing choices, I had a tough time ruling out options. Service was comfortably friendly, professional, competent, and welcoming - no stuffy shirts here. From a decor standpoint, this restaurant is in an old house - they have done a fine transformation, and the rooms are very attractively appointed with an appealing ambiance, but if you are looking for SF-chic, this setting may fall slightly short. Think romantic dinner for two, not high-power business event. Finally, we found the prices to be very fair for the value received.
Excellent food and a nice atmosphere. Not too many people thrth when I went, so I could see how it might be noisy if full. The fried quail was crispy and tender. Venison was juicy and flavorful.
Very interesting food! A blend of flavors you might not think to put together. Beautiful presentation. It seems that the Indian influence/flavor is less than it was a few years back but still wonderful.
Well, food was delicious, homemade vibes with all the secret sauce. Would go here over and over. Check it out if you like homemade food
The service was great! Our waiter was super friendly and accommodating with all our needs. The place has plenty of Purell bottles around, and all staff wore masks. A must visit!
Really fun fine dining experience. The ambiance is a little dated in my opinion but it's part of the charm of the restaurant being located inside an early 1900s house. The food was delicious though. My friend and I opted for the 3 course meal and that was more than enough while my husband got the 5 course and had enough to share around the table. The black cod crudo was my favorite dish but the bread and butter was also a top runner - and it wasn't even its own course. Photo of the menu attached for anyone curious.
This is my go-to place on special occasions. Highly recommend!!
Charming little place. It’s a little to hard to find among the houses. The service is attentive, and the ambience is warm. The food was great. They even made a special pasta for my daughter, which was not on the menu. My 6yo said it was the best pasta she’s had. The food was delicate, flavorful and very well presented. Highly recommend.
We had a fantastic 3-course dinner with wine pairings, seated outside due to Covid. They’ve done a great job to create a lovely ambiance. Every single dish was truly fantastic! The wait staff are wonderful. All Spice is a hidden gem one could so easily pass by. We very highly recommend it!!
Marvelous hidden gem. Wonderful surprises throughout the meal- beginning with an amuse bouche, warm bread with almond butter, and delightful service. Great wine list, not huge but hits the spot. Now open on Sunday and Monday nights too. Love the super cozy setting, we had a spot by the fireplace. We are so lucky to have this restaurant in San Mateo. Perfect for a special occasion, well worth seeking out.
Just had the best fine dining dinner we've had in a long time and can't understand why they don't have a Michelin star (our comparison being an establishment in Bernal Heights, SF that has a star and served an unmemorable prix fixe menu to us a few months ago). Flavors aren't overly delicate, textures are varied and fun, service is excellent, wine pairings work well, the little house is cute as a button (visit before they have to move - they have a 2-year lease left!) We especially enjoyed the butternut squash soup and the roasted squab, and even though we're not dessert people, we devoured the Earl Grey panna cotta and apple cake with berries. Yum 😋.
The hostess set the tone and welcomed my wife, son and me for our first visit here. Dining room is homey and intimate. Servers were attentive without being intimidating. Food was beautifully prepared. Very special. Don't skip dessert.
Cosy and elegant setting with welcoming feel. Upscale but not stuffy. Food was inventive and delicious. Skews toward the adventuresome with cross-cultural flavors and presentations. Food was fresh and plenty of interesting vegetable-centric offerings. Delicious seasonings and sauces. Staff was welcoming and helpful; they were able to accommodate some mix and match requests from the menu. They paired a glass of wine excellently with my spicy scallop dish.
Hands down the best restaurant on the peninsula! The food is always amazing, service is highly knowledgeable and attentive. This is our go-to for special nights out. Food is high end, fresh and ingredient focused but the techniques the chef uses to turn up the flavors and textures are mind blowing. Things usually have an eastern flair but this is not standard Indian food nor is it standard "fusion" food. The menu evolves regularly but you are always going to be happy with a scallop appetizer and a sea bass entrée but don't let that sear you away from the other great options.
Prix fixe menu offering either a 3 or 5 course selections. We found the pan-seared scallops, slow-roasted duck and chicken-pea Panisse to be interesting. The tenderloin steak was tasty. Our expectations were not fully met as we couldn’t discern that the flavor of the entrees were induced by the preparation, but rather by the heavy sauces. Set in a cute little Victorian house just off El Camino in San Mateo. Seating is divided in the little rooms, giving a cozy, homey feeling. The dishes are unusual and very tasty. This is a high-end restaurant.
One of the few fine dining venues offering food with an Indian twist, newly Michelin anointed All Spice is a unique and delightful experience. Unlike other establishments of this caliber, the restaurant does not explicitly offer a tasting menu, however the chef was happy to prepare one on request. The quarters are a bit cramped as the restaurant is housed in an old home, but the quality of the food more than makes up for the lack of "fine-dining"esque decorative features. As expected, service was attentive and friendly.
I'm not an adventurous foodie, but I like never-before-had flavors and amazing meals. The Thai wings are inter-planetary! Indian fusion, but not typical Indian. Very special, pre-covid Michelin Star restaurant... At very reasonable prices! Great, unique food; plus fantastic service. And it all happens in a secluded Victorian building that's a hundred years old... Don't miss out before it's an office building.
All Spice is a hidden gem, literally and figuratively. You might drive right by it and never know it's there. The food and service are excellent. If you're looking for some elevated and unique cuisine, give All Spice a try.
My husband and I went to All Spice for my birthday. Restaurant is owned by a husband and wife tandem and was impressed the wife was there that night seating and talking to guests. Food is great! French-inspired food with some hint of Indian spices. I loved the chocolate dessert I had. This restaurant definitely deserved it's Michelin star
Amazing unique food. The chef always has something great on the menu that changes from time to time to give you something different. If you have any food/allergy concerns, the wait staff will make sure to let the chef know to accommodate. If you call ahead of time, you can get something special made sometimes if the chef has time. The flavors, texture and spices are always well balanced and leaves you wanting more. I love how each bite from a dish gets your taste buds and senses working and allows you to analyze what you are eating while enjoying it. I don't like bland food that I eat because it's good and that's it. If I want that then I leave those dinners for a simple restaurant or a diner. I like a full experience of eating my food while appreciating different aspects of it's flavor, body and presentation. Did I mention the wait staff is always friendly and super attentive. Kudos to the chef, kitchen staff and front of the house for making a wonderful dining experience each and every time. One more thing, try the Kulfe if it's on the menu when you go! If you love rich flavorful chocolate then get it. I'm forever addicted to it lol.
This is my first review of a restaurant ever and I have been to a lot of fine establishments. The reason I am righting this review is that All Spice was one of the finer meals I have had and this includes some of the finest restaurants in Manhattan. The experience was done at 1/5th the price of comparable quality food. The decor may be done on a budget but if it that translates to the bang for the buck we got I will take it. There was attention to detail on everything. Bravo, bravo All Spice!
If you're in San Mateo and looking for a place to take your date...this is the restaurant you want to be at. The fusion Indian-New American cuisine is superb and delicious. It's food you want to photograph then eat. Then eat the photograph. That good. Bravo to the owner, the chef and the staff. Everything is spot on; from the location, decor, service and food... Oh and the menu changes every few months... Can't wait to come back again!
Outstanding food preparation and presentation. Unique fusion menu. Intimate, relaxed environment, located in a small home converted to restaurant. A table in the front room, near the fireplace adds to a special atmosphere. Restaurant location behind other small retail and across the street from residential, might at first be off-putting, however do not let that deter you from enjoying one of the best restaurants in mid-peninsula.
Group meal for work colleagues. Superbly executed...a great experience all around
We came to "All Spice" to celebrate a special event in our life. We only recently learned about their Michelin award. Amazing! Lunch was great because they provided their PreFix menu. The cost was very reasonable for only $35 which includes tax and gratuity. They offered two options for each course of their prefix. We both shared the salad and mushroom soup. For the main course, I had the cod, while my Sweetie had black rice vegetarian sandwich. And for dessert, their homemade ice cream hit home run. Very delicious! I like their decor. Reminded me of Moulin Rouge. A bit hippy, a bit bohemian, with a twist of East Asian and Modern Indian theme! Their service here was excellent. Very attentive. We're going to have to come back for more and explore their dinner menu. I was told that their lamb is fantastic.
Great fine dining experience across the board: food, service, and a unique atmosphere in a small and special space. Highly recommended!
A beautiful interior and soft lighting made this place very welcoming Then the wine sections are great ( had a glass of Syrah-2017 which was the best ever ) Food were such high quality and plate setting were eye pleasing ! You can choices 3,4,5 courses to enjoy ! Overall ! 5 stars with relaxing atmosphere
The whole experience was amazing. It's set in an old victorian house converted into a chef restaurant. each room has no more then 3 tables. gives a very intimate dinning experience. We choose the 'sample chef's tasting menu' and were not disappointed. 6 course meal which was work of an artist. One of the best I've ever had! It's ain't cheap, but a meal I'll remember for a long time
Like the flexibility of the hybrid prix fixe menu - first time I saw this. One can choose 3/4/5 items from the food list. The restaurant is inside a (retrofitted) cottage and has an intimate vibe.
We’re never disappointed when dining in or ordering from All Spice. The food is consistently tasty, creative, and beautifully presented. A true favorite!
This is a review for their takeout. We ordered a dinner for two so we can dine at home and prepare other options for my daughter. I was impressed that the packaging had zero plastic - even the sauce containers! 👍 Food was also plated spectacularly in the takeout containers. It tasted amazing. We had the lamb and red snapper. It was easy to order everything online. Made it super convenient with the takeout option. Will return in the future to check out the dine-in experience.
Had a wonderful celebratory dinner with my fiance. From when we entered go when we left, the services and courteous staff made our evening amazing. Food was amazing across the board, special shout out to the Custard Cake, the perfect end (nearly) to a wonderful dinner
What a special wonderful joy. Everything about this experience felt like this wonderful combination of eating at one of the best restaurants while at the same time feeling like you are eating at a friend's house who just happens to be one of the best cooks in the entire world. The food is cooked and seasoned to perfection. It is unique and "foody" but still feels approachable (just trust me). And then you combine this with the kindest team of people who make the entire evening so wonderful. Go. Eat. Enjoy
An incredible meal in a cozy environment, a wonderful experience. Fantastic vegetarian options. We will be back!
Loved my experience here and look forward to coming back in the future. Everything was delicious and the service was exceptional! The dessert my husband ordered reminded me of the enchanted rose from Beauty and the Beast but better because it was chocolate heaven. It was beautiful and the taste was magical. We also ordered the venison and beef cheeks and I'm pretty sure I was dancing in my seat the food was so good. Would highly recommend coming here for a nice dinner out.
Thoroughly enjoyed my dinner here!! I am a vegetarian and it is a little hard to find a find dining restaurant offering vegetarian course meals. All Spice had a vegetarian friendly menu so I was really excited to try this place out! The dishes were absolutely DELICIOUS, starting from the jasmine scented butternut squash soup, the Kebabs, delicata squash and the caramelized orange cheesecake. The flavours were wonderful! I never thought a squash could taste that delicious!! The restaurant had an intimate setting with only few tables and it was just the perfect place for my date night. The staff were friendly and were very accommodating. I am definitely going here again and I highly recommend this place for your special date/anniversary night!
Incredible elegant with a variety of dishes in a restaurant that still manages to seem homey. The wait staff took extreme care of my party's dietary restrictions, and made sure to check up on us fluidly. I would highly recommend asking your waiter/waitress for recommendations, as they are highly knowledgeable of the menu and comprehensive pairings across courses.
My wife and I really loved our meal at All Spice. It definitely lived up to its reputation. The service was fantastic, and the food was wonderfully executed. The best part of the restaurant really must be the location though. It's set in an unassuming home, just off El Camino Real. You would never think there's a Michelin-starred gem tucked away inside. I would highly recommend this place! Our dinner included: - Pecan sourdough bread with seaweed butter. I don't usually like sourdough bread, but this was probably the best sourdough I've ever had - Amuse bouche: Eggplant wrapped in zucchini, topped with beet puree - Tamarind glazed scallops with charred hearts of Palm and shrimp mousse - Hen of the woods mushrooms with crunchy enoki, truffle foam on a bed of pine nuts - Striped bass with quinoa - Steak and bone served with pureed potato and daikon radish
Got the $60 Three course takeout. They even contacted me with the substitutions for that night's menu. Ordered the Salmon and wasn'tdisappointed... It was fantastic--well seared on the outside and perfectly done on the inside. And the seasoning was great. No picture because my camera malfunctioned and it was already eaten by the time I realized. The Gem salad was good, classic romaine with lots of tasty bits. And the desert was very easy to eat. The restaurant looked like a date night spot, very cute.
Went here to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. It's been years since I came here and did not disappoint. Still a very cute ambiance, very professional service, and lovely, amazing food! We did the 5-course tasting menu and it was perfect. This is a wonderful special occasion restaurant.
We had a group dinner here and they were extremely accommodating. Had our table in a separate room (entry). Great flavor and interesting mix of spices. I tried the scallops and salmon -- both prepared perfectly (not overdone, Great texture). The octopus appetizer was a huge hit at the table. The servers were very attentive but not too much. Highly recommend.
This fine dining experience was quite unique. It takes place inside a Victorian house. The modern Californian cuisine with an Indian fusion twist was creative and delicious. Plus, you have the flexibility to choose from a 3, 4, or 5 course menu. Definitely will come back to try the other items on the menu.
Probably had the best meal of the year at All Spice this evening. Phenomenal Vegetarian multi course menu with an equally good wine pairing. Can’t believe I went many years without coming back to this space. Excellent service from Rome too.
Truly special dining experience. The outdoor dining space is attractive and comfortable. The menu can be ordered in 3-5 courses. Wine pairing is $10 per course. We were celebrating an anniversary and opted for champaigne. I started with potato croquets which were incredible. There were two vegetarian starters but I went with the non-salad for something more unusual. Absolutely delicious with varied texture and tastes along with very fresh green and vegetable components. For my main I had the polenta. Polenta is a common vegetarian option and when I see it I have doubts. This was INCREDIBLE! So creamy, it melted in my mouth. The tastes hit several different notes all played in an outstanding, enjoyable cuisine chorus.Peaches! The cheese cake texture let you know great care was taken in its preparation. I'd never had a brulee topped cheesecake and it is amazing. The bread and spread and pea-based tasters added to the top-notch eating. Thank you, All Spice!
Tucked away along El Camino is this quaint and lovely place that serves Modern Californian Cuisine. You can select 3, 4 or 5 plates from their tasting menu. But whatever you decide to order, expect to have a delicious and satisfying meal. Highlights were the Yuzu-cured salmon crudo, Crispy Thai-style chicken wings, and Iberico presa acorn-fed pork steak. The desserts were equally sumptuous. The staff is friendly and not overbearing. One of the better meals I’ve had as of late.
My husband and I went here for our anniversary. 4 stars for the food, rounded up to 5 overall. Decently priced tasting menu with a variety of choices. My hubs and I decided on 3 courses each (2 appetizers and 1 main). My two favorite dishes were the complimentary chilled butternut squash soup and the peach and tomato tart. The soup was an excellent start especially on a hot day! The tart was so good and had hints of truffle. Since I've never had venison, I gave it a shot. Unfortunately I did not enjoy this dish as much but I think it's more that I don't like venison vs how it was prepared. It reminded me a bit if how lamb tastes and I do not enjoy lamb either. I was very jealous of my husband's oxtail though. That was amazing ! Everything was presented/plated very well too. Service was also excellent. Very friendly staff and attentive with refilling water quickly and went off their recommendations for some of our choices. The restaurant was also super cute in a converted house with its own parking lot. It is tucked away from the street though and you could easily miss it (thank goodness for Google maps!). The lot was full that day but we were able to snag street parking right behind the lot.
I really like this fine dining restaurant. The food presentation, taste and variety does elevate the level of experience. Been to many high end restaurants, but for the price point and service (nothing extravagant but attentive) this restaurant shines. All the dishes were thoughtful and had plenty of umami. Worth going back again when they refresh the menu. The menu is somewhat prefix as you can choose from a few options. Overall a great restaurant to visit.
Best in San Mateo and the food is at Michelin one star level. Love the aged beef scallops onion soup and black cod. Well we actually liked everything, including the bread and butter. The restaurant is behind other buildings at the main street. Plenty of parking and not too many people there for weekday night. Also very glad to see when the check came, no ridiculous so called employee benefits fee added like many other fine restaurants thought they are entitled to charge their customers. Love everything and will be back.
Wow, I really love this place. World fusion cuisine at its finest. Every dish is a unique adventure of exciting colors, aromas, flavors, and textures. The dining experience is almost like a mini vacation to a new country you have never been to before. Each plate is a beautiful work of art, blending exquisite sights, smells, and tastes. Everything on the menu is fantastic. Cannot wait to go again. Many gluten free options.

Very nicely done, 2 friends and I went and each had the 3 dish option and it was just the right amount. Great ambiance, nice owner and great food!!

My wife and I have been going to All Spice for the past ~4 years. It’s one of our favorite restaurants ever. Incredible food and drinks, staff, atmosphere, and consistency. I can’t remember a dish that wasn’t well-cooked. Lots of flavor in their dishes. They never disappoint. Although I wish they’d bring back the mushroom crème brûlée!! We’ll certainly be back soon!
Excellent experience tucked away in a corner of San Mateo that I didn't know existed. The restaurant looks like it must have been a house but tastefully and quirkily decorated as a higher end but cozy local fine dining destination. Service was extremely warm and friendly and the dishes were laid out beautifully and artfully. I understand it used to have a Michelin star and service and plating seemed to reflect it. I thought the food was delicious - venison was very tender, not gamey at all and the "haute dot" sauces were packed with flavor but a few other dishes didn't quite reach perfection (for ex.: butternut squash cheesecake had a great flavor profile but the crust was on the mushier side). All in all, a solid experience and one of the better fine dining establishments in San Mateo.

Good food. Way too quiet. Wished it had gone the wooden-table/vibrant-music route (like State Bird, Bar Tartine etc), rather than the white-tablecloth one. Why keep the fun/lively vibe just on the plate?
Wonderful gem! --exceptional flavors; delicious blend and balance of spices. The squid starter was outstanding. --great execution, e.g., the fish was perfectly cooked. Believe me, easier said than done. --warm ambience that welcomes conversation and laughter --very friendly service. Yes, we'll be back and we recommend without hesitation.
A few friends and I had dinner at All Spice. We really loved the atmosphere. The restaurant is in an old house. So, it feels very cozy and intimate. The food was pretty good. It was less Indian and more on the side of American Contemporary. The menu changes very frequently. So, you always know that you are eating something fresh and new. Make sure to try the snowglobe dessert. It is really fun to watch as they finish the dish at your table.
On my scale, four stars means excellent. Five stars means best I've ever seen. The meal I had here was excellent. We ordered three or four courses each, and we ordered one or two desserts each. Everything was excellent.
Adorable indoor decor, phenomenon service manner, and off-street parking space available. Love the appetizers, we ordered the special - quail and wildwood mushrooms which was our top favorites. For the entrees, we ordered gnocchi, pork belly, and the fish with wagyu beef fat. The last one is the best, the fish fillet is really fresh, tender, and juicy as well; also the kale and green beans stands out by themselves. They did offer us bite sized marble cake with chocolate cream as parting gift. Overall, it’s a great fine dining place in peninsula area.
Overall good experience. A lot of Indian influences in most dishes. Scallops starter was excellent. I have enjoyed all courses with one exception of a octopus starter. It was prepared nicely, soft inside crunchy on outside with zesty sauces on the side, however I couldn't taste octopus, the texture was velvety soft but the octopus seafood taste was gone. All deserts however were fabulous. Service was good but understaffed however we never waited too long for our waiter.
Tried out this well-reviewed restaurant. Good ambiance near the highway exit, yet surprisingly serene. Convenient parking available. Despite being a weekday evening, the restaurant was lively. While the atmosphere matters, the focus remains on food quality. Soft bread, but the soup had an unusual curry-like flavor. For appetizers: Poached, chilled calamari, and Smoky shrimp with spiced watermelon. Both delicious, especially enjoyed the texture of the calamari. Ordered Miso marinated breast of squab and Australian wagyu coulotte steak for mains. Personally not a fan of squab, preferred the Wagyu steak, perfectly seared on the outside. Desserts: "Pineapple Express" cheesecake and Cake 'n Ice Cream. Cheesecake tasted mediocre, and both ice cream and chocolate cake were average. Red wine pairing was okay, and reasonably priced. Dinner is worth a try, but for special occasions like an anniversary, might explore other options.
I had been wanting to visit this place for a long time and somehow never found the right time to go. I was pleasantly surprised to know that they had begun brunch services on Sunday and finally gave it a shot. The outdoor patio was nicely decked up with a welcoming atmosphere and the hostess was kind enough to turn on the heaters for us in the mildly cold conditions. We ordered an Avocado toast, Cajun Shakshuka and a Cadillac of Pancakes. Now speaking of a fine dining restaurant, the fundamental principle is that along with providing a gastronomic experience, they ensure that you can taste each of the flavorful ingredients that make up the dish. I was glad they did not let us down on this particular aspect. The presentation of each dish was great even for brunch items. The only letdown was the Shakshuka which didn’t really feel like one. The avocado toast was great with a good number of toppings to go along but note that the avocados are sliced and placed instead of being smashed and spread on the sourdough bread. The Cadillac of pancakes baked in oven were the killer dish spectacular visually and in taste too. The berries, jam and the cream on the were an amazing combo to go with the pancakes. Would love coming here again and try their regular dinner menu too once but meanwhile, if you would like to have something extravagant for brunch in a fine dining setting, this would be a great choice of place to visit.
Was here for dinner as part of a corporate group. We had a pre fixe dinner and choice of appetizers, entree and dessert. Located in a nondescript portion of el Camino of San Mateo, I was pleasantly surprised at the atmosphere and quality of food at this establishment, which is definitely Michelin worthy. In case there’s any doubt, I would hardly characterize the food as Indian. I went with the seafood route - halibut for appetizer and salmon for main. Artfully presented and full of different flavors, the food was pretty amazing. Will definitely consider coming back. Service was attentive.
Food: 4/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Overall: A great choice for prefixe. The extended review… Food: 4/5 - The menu set up is great with a bunch of different options depending on how hungry one is. I love that you can choose 2 entrees and 2 desserts if you so desire. Service: 4/5 - Friendly and attentive service. Ambiance: 5/5 - The setting is very nice. It’s a well set up restaurant that isn’t so claustrophobic and it’s definitely quieter so that you can have good conversation over a very well crafted meal.
A cozy fine dining restaurant with Indian notes. The courses were delicious. The Crudo was fresh and I like the pineapple accents. The ribeye was also cooked perfectly medium rare. The Lemon posset was also a refreshing way to end the meal. We were also served a complimentary amuse bouche to start the meal, along with bread and shallot butter. You have the flexibility of selecting which dish you want for each course, along with the number of courses you want for your meal. You can also select two appetizers instead of one appetizer + one dessert which I thought was nice. In terms of service, it didn’t really stand out to me. It took a while for the main course to arrive after the appetizer, granted our group was on the larger size. The interior is unique and cozy while being somewhat casual.

Food was very average for the $200 that we paid for a three course meal for two. Expected way better for the steep price point. Ambience was great though!
Its gotten great reviews and we went in with high expectations. The pictures sure looked great. We had reservations for 6:30 on a Thursday and we were the only ones there at first. Eventually about 1/3 of the place was full. They have outdoor seating right now though we sat inside by the fireplace. The ambiance was very nice. We wanted to order five dishes and share them but that's not allowed so we had to order one more so that they fulfill the requirement of 3 dishes each. The one dish could only come from the appetizer or desert men so we added a desert to take home. Seemed silly to have such strict rules so that they can charge more for the same food. Got some nice wine to go with the meal including some champagne and then a carafe of red which was quite nice. I'm not sure what it was but likely a blend with light smoky hint. Had several dishes and the ones that stood out were the octopus and also the scallop appetizer. The octopus was served on a creamy chickpea mash. Would get those two anytime. The mains were steak and also squab...aka pigeon...which is a rare treat. Both were good dishes. The Hawaiian dream desert was also ok. If you like the combination of something really sweet and tart at the same time, you'll like this. We took home the cheesecake though its teeny tiny in case you are expecting an actual piece of cheesecake. Bottom line is that I was glad to try it but its not a place I'd run back to. For an over $300 meal for two, I really expected something a bit different.
Appetizer and main course is actually good, but the warm apple cake is too sweet for us. The problem is the the waiting time between each course is way too long, most of the customers just sit there with empty table, waiting for their next course, we only spent 30mins on eating, for the other 1.5hr we are just waiting. One last funny thing is after all the courses, the waiter brings us 2 small cakes to taste, but all the forks and spoons have been taken away, we have to call the waiter to bring us the forks, waiter seems surprised that we need forks, so we are wondering if we should eat the cakes by hands now. In general, I don't think we will visit this place again cause I really don't like waiting too long
Nothing really stood out or felt memorable. The entree meat was tough to chew and overcooked, though the appetizers were amazing. Aside from one or two starters, the mains just weren’t that good. The dessert was decent but also nothing memorable or standout.

Great ambiance and excellent service. Place was nice and cozy with a homey feel to it. However, food was over priced for what it was. If I am paying over a hundred on a bill I would expect to at least get some filtered water instead of Tap water they were serving. Wouldn't say I will be coming back here any time soon.
The environment was quiet and private, and the service was attentive without being intrusive. While the space has some character, the overall setting felt fairly average and did not reflect the level of a more refined fine dining environment. Despite these positives, the food itself did not meet expectations. Most dishes tasted very similar, and the overall flavors were consistently too salty, whether from the seasoning or the sauces. Even for someone who enjoys bold flavors, this felt excessive rather than intentional. The cod we ordered was also slightly burnt, which was disappointing at this price point. For two people, the bill came to over $250. While the ingredients appeared decent, the value was not there. Given the pricing, the dishes lacked refinement and balance, and the experience overall was not one I would recommend.
I went to the restaurant with a lot of expectations. However, we were very disappointed with the food. The appetizers were decent. Gnocchi was very dry and the cream was very tangy. The dessert was very sweet. The only silver lining was the staff, that was very friendly and paid attenton to our needs.

The service was excellent and very attentive. But the food was not worth the price. I ordered 4 dishes from the prix fixe menu, 2 starters, a main, and a dessert. The first 3 all had very similar curry flavors, so it felt like I was eating the same thing over and over again. Location is a bit hard to find, so slow down a lot or you'll miss the turn. I thought the facilities were fine, but they may want to fix the slightly uneven floors because they're interfering with the upscale vibe the restaurant is attempting.

After a great experience the last time we visited this restaurant, I'm disappointed to say that we had the complete opposite experience this time. And sadly this review isn't even about the food, it is about the absolutely poor service and attitude we received. My husband, son and I had sat at a table where the sun was bothering us. When we pointed it to the waiter, he shrugged it off vs. trying to accommodate when there were at least 3 empty tables around us in a practically empty space. The attitude was basically 'deal with it'. He then decided to move us to another table but while doing so, gave us a look and attitude as though we were really causing some inconvenience to him. He was visibly making a face trying to accommodate us. We didn't feel welcome and decided not to dine there. I should add that we are not the kind of people who expect the world, we have over-tipped at restaurants especially during Covid times to support the local community. All we ask in return is a welcoming approach towards guests. This is very unfortunate and we will never dine at this restaurant again.
