Tip: Don't let the train station location scare you; the noise is minimal. Also, the rib and rotisserie chicken plate is massive, enough to feed two diners.

The unique setting restaurant, situated in the heart of downtown San Mateo, has garnered a reputation for its exceptional pizza offerings. In addition to their renowned prime rib and Mediterranean Sea bass, the restaurant also provides a delightful selection of two sides for the prime rib meal, with a mandatory inclusion of Caesar salad. The Caesar salad is widely regarded as one of the finest in the region. The restaurant’s extensive wine and cocktail list further enhances the dining experience.
Family had a lot of time before having to take a flight out of SFO, so did a quick search for local restaurants and decided to try Rise. It's a short drive from the airport and there's a fair amount of parking available. The reviews were excellent and the pictures looked great, so we were really looking forward to a good meal before a long flight. Rise is located next to the train tracks and looks like it may have been part of a station or something before. But the decor is great and having trains come by just adds to the experience. Rise did not disappoint at all! We ordered a superfood bowl with chicken, a mushroom pizza, and the roasted branzino (fish). The branzino was excellent, well cooked and seasoned and came with mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus, both of which I'd recommend. The superfood bowl was good but outclassed by the other dishes. It was definitely tasty and healthy. The standout for me was the mushroom pizza. I wasn't actually in the mood for pizza, and I don't just order mushrooms as a topping, but this was my wife's choice and I ended up having about half of it because it was so good. We wrapped everything up with their delicious cheescake with crushed cherry topping. Our server, Ameer, was fantastic and gave us some great recommendations. Highly recommend!
Unique modern atmosphere. A delicious menu choice with variety. We had the woodfired Margherita pizza. It was delicious. The atmosphere was relaxing and had good vibes. The service was wonderful, and would highly recommend this. The next time you are in San Mateo, and are craving Pizza.
The food here was really flavorful and I love that they offer both rotisserie chicken and pizzas. The restaurant does both well. The rib and rotisserie chicken plate is massive, enough to feed 2 diners. The fries were really tasty, and the interior has a comfortable and chic vibe, and you can watch the trains go by as you eat. Reservations aren't strictly necessary. My husband and I will definitely return.
This location was recommended to me, yup by yelp. We ordered: Pitman Family farm local chicken half with Mac & Cheese and Sweet potatoes as their sides, BBQ Beef Back Ribs and Margherita Pizza. It was a lot of food for 3 of us. Everything was so good and tender. I don’t normally like Mac & cheese but theirs was so good. For drinks: Wood fire margarita, peacock Daisy and the mule train. The woodfire margarita is not your normal margarita. It taste Smokey and spicy. Tallarin on the rim. I liked the mule train better. For dessert to share: Banana Cream Pie. That was yummy too. We would definitely come back but order less. :)
Love the interior of the building, which was probably converted from a formerly train facility? Very warm and welcoming. We made a mistake by forgetting to request for gf pizza crust ($5 extra) until when the salad came, but they made it happen without any fuss. The Italian Chopped salad (small) was fresh and lettuce was crispy. The Brunch pizza was great. Both were just right for 2 people. We’ll definitely be back.
Carne Pizza was great, I also got the meatballs which were tasty. I'll be back to try the Beef Ribs + Peach Pie. The patio seating was nice, 1st time I had heard of this place.
Green salad was a 1/2 size, but very big quantity and tasty enough. Pizza ovens are visible in the open kitchen. Tried 3 different pizzas. All were pretty good with the good charred crust. We also tried the roast chicken and it was fine, not great. Dining room is IN the train station and the trains come by every few minutes.
We had the Carne Asada pizza, Fungi Pizza, shared the Mac & Cheese (big bowl!) and Truffle fries. ALL so good! We WILL be back! I really want to try the Prime Rib and Ribs. Don't let the location next to the train scare you. It is very quiet and you will barely notice it.
Delicious pizza, good portion sizes, great atmosphere, and well staffed. Only can be loud sometimes due to the train. Usually easy parking. I love the mushroom pizza with honey and chicken parm.
Everything I ordered was delicious (see photos). I am a pizza snob and this pizza did not disappoint! My only issue is I sat at the bar and there was only one bar tender and it was pure chaos for her. She handled the crowd extremely well. I recommend they have two bar tenders during busy hours like the Friday night dinner rush. If you are looking for a solid menu with different options outside of pizza, I recommend giving this place a try.

My good friend celebrated his birthday over the weekend at this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised at how fantastic it was. He rented out the private space in the middle of the restaurant and I believe Linda, the manager, was our main POC for the night. She was so attentive, very kind, remembered everything that we requested, and beyond friendly the whole evening. Linda really made the evening go perfectly. The food was really great too!! Would highly recommend and we will definitely be going back. It was our first time there and I'll definitely be back.

A very nice pizza and grill restaurant right next to the San Mateo Caltrain station. The pizzas were good, very filling. We tried the pesto shrimp and spicy sausage with honey pizzas, recommended by our waitress. Both were delicious, especially the spicy sausage one with honey, quite an ingenious combination. The pizza crust was thin but chewy, similar to the Neapolitan style. Service was friendly. Price was reasonable.
My work always orders the pizza from here. I always enjoy. So 4 stars because they are doing it. The service was friendly in person, the pizzas are decent. Edit: adding a review for the desserts. The best dessert was the brookie; the cheesecake is a little strange with the cherry, and the caramelized bananas are delicious.
Imma day late on this but, you know?!? I saw this place on Bay Area Check Please. The pizza that was shown is what cause my attention . Ish looked HELLA good. Plus, I never had wood fire pizza. The lady an I came here to eat on 11/11/25 at bout 12/1230p. It wasn’t too busy. Was pretty good crowd. Had bout a <10min wait. Not bad. We had the wood fire buffalo wings and the wood fire Brussels sprouts to start. Both were dope. Seasoned very well. I had the Carne pizza(which was the all meat) with extra cheese. Nice and meaty. My lady had the vegetarian pizza(nah! I ain’t try that). She loved it. The dough was cool. I’d say it was priced well. My personal gripe and why I only gave four stars was they don’t have a soda fountain for refills. Food is nice. I mos def will be back. Thanks to Bay Area Check Please.

Good pizza and salads. Service is attentive and the space is expansive and well designed. Plenty of options for seating. The truffle pizza was a 7/10, the health salad was an 8/10 (could have been a 10/10 if it were less oily), and the pepperoni pizza was 8/10. Prices are decent and the bathrooms are very clean.

Seven dollars for the tiniest little thing of fries. Burger King gives me better fries at twice the quantity and half the price! Pizzas were serviceable. Too much sauce. Even I can do better with a home gas fired pizza oven. Gets the crust real soggy and floppy. Good overall crust thickness. Toppings largely good. Kinda cute place in the train station. Not too loud either. Love seeing the trains pass by. Not bad but if I want pizza there’s other spots and if I want to be in San Mateo there’s other restaurants I prefer.
Beautiful establishment with mediocre pizza and ok service. Margarita Pizza was a 5.8.. Light char , ok taste , case of the Fresno Flop !! Chassis needed to be much firmer and crispier . Beautiful establishment, decent service , just not a great pie ..
3.4 stars Sometimes I crave for a good pizza and this place pizza is not oily. It has good amount of ingredients in every bite. I told them I wanted my crust well done and yet the middle crust is soggy. Sigh! I do not think pizza should be a floppy when held. Hold the slice and it should be straight! As a thin crust bottom!
Very noisy. We were seated in a separate area from the main dining room, and even with a small dining crowd, it was loud. Food was OK, but nothing special. One couple ordered a pizza to split, and my wife and I got our food and had it almost eaten before their pizza arrived. Server came and explained that their pizza had to be remade as the first one burned. Server was preoccupied. We had planned to get dessert, but eventually walked up to the cashier area and paid. Our server was chatting in the hall. Menu looked great, but we won’t return.

just went for lunch 2 ppl: 1 coke 5.5$, 1 mezcalpotian cocktail (17$) great, 1 magherita (20.5$) good crust but that's it! very light filling and test blah 1 ham & roasted pinapple (22$) good crust but that's it! very light filling and test very very blah Total with tip 110$- NOT WORT IT! instead check Pausa in san Mateo: pizzas are a bit more but very tasty & original and a full other original dishes, or check Vesta in redwood city: great tasty, more choice & cheaper
Service was amazing super polite staff, everything was also clean and uptodate. Food was good tasting but way over priced for the quality. Toppings on the pizza was bare BARE minimum and the cust in the middle was soggy completely falling apart just picking it up meanwhile the crust was burnt and huge. Others at my table got other non-pizza dishes that were better, but I came for the pizza 🤷🏽♀️
