This small restaurant is located in a strip mall on Carson St. in old Torrance.. it was very busy and popular even on a Monday night! The food was outstanding starting with the beef salad.. it was very tasty and refreshing. Moving on the fancy sashimi was perfect.. very fresh and flavorful. Their beef is top notch whether it was the ribeye or the wagyu tartar service with uni and caviar.. the latter had a beautiful presentation and was equally delicious. The salmon truffle carpaccio was another winner. The service was nice and the counter seating was very comfortable. It might be a good idea to do a reservation especially if it is a busy night. the space is relatively compact and fills up really fast. This is a very authentic dining experience which has not been watered down for an American audience.. real deal outstanding Japanese food. They have tons of robata choices and their crispy pork ribs looked amazing.. def trying them on our next visit. If you love grilled meats and amazing flavor Izakaya Hachi is a must try.
Very authentic. Transports me to Japan. Every dish was delicious, exceptional, fancy. Highly recommend.
Met up with some friends at Hachi for dinner and this place definitely feels like a very traditional Japanese spot. The menu has a lot to offer and we went all out ordering a bunch of different things to share. The raw oysters were super fresh, pork belly was nicely grilled, and the scallops were on point. We also tried nigiri and sashimi — everything tasted clean and well-prepared. The snapper collar was a nice treat and the chicken karaage was crispy and juicy, perfect with a squeeze of lemon. One thing I noticed — they don’t even have a California roll on the menu. That’s when you know it’s the real deal, authentically Japanese. Service was friendly and the vibe is laid back, definitely a good spot for hanging out with friends over quality Japanese food.
Absolutely love the food here. When I come visit my family in LA they take us here, and I've yet to have a dish I didn't like. We always get the fried gobo, the jidori wings are really tasty, the beef tataki is some of the best I've had in the area. I tried a couple different things today the toro taku and the pressed analog, both were delicious and definitely something I'd get again. I wasn't too crazy about the Japanese potato salad with mentaiko, I feel like it needs a but more mayo. The karaage is also very tasty, and we also had some kaki fry which was very good and the crab croquettes are some of my favorite things to get here. Overall this is one of my top places, sometimes inconsistent and service can lag a bit, but it's never been much an issue to affect my review.
The food here tastes amazing. The “skewer” items are a very generous portion. Try the beef tongue. The meat is extremely tender and soft. The strip steak has a great sauce with it. The Kobe beef and uni sashimi is incredible.
Visited here in 2017, and had dreams over the years about how amazing the pork shabu/Ramen dish is. Back now in 2023 having visited Japan and eaten a couple dozen bowls of Ramen, and still this place is just as tasty as ever. All ingredients are super fresh, and the flavoring is just perfect. The place is nice too with a wood decorated facade, and the staff were attended helpful.
Place a reservation in advance. Walk in and you will find a lively and cozy atmosphere. The price reflects the quality of the ingredients. I ordered a hot tea, but they have a whole menu of alcohol and non alcoholic options. Everything I had was unparalleled in terms of freshness and flavor. Tuna Avocado Tartare - the first dish out, very fresh and wonderfully plated. Shishito Mushrooms - the bonito flakes were still dancing! I would get this next time, the season on the mushrooms was very deep and savory. Sashimi plate - there is a minimum order of 2, but it was well worth it. Uni Wagyu - My favorite dish of the night! Beef Tongue - I got this based on other reviews recommendations, and it did not disappoint. Kimchi pork - while very good, not something I would re-order. Pumpkin Zenzai - leave space. The flavor is worth it.
I was on a hunt for delicate Japanese food in LA area and this is the best! Sashimi is so fresh. Dishes are interesting. Thickest beef tongue cut ever!
First time visit in 5 years. I recall their foods are excellent. We ordered sashimi, some yakitori, salad, and etc. They were so delicious as usual. We definitely will go there again.
Great food in a nice atmosphere. I think this restaurant is specifically good if you are willing to share multiple small plates and spend a bunch of money on tasty little bites. The chicken karage was my favorite.
This is a late review from December, but better late than never cause this is my favorite Japanese restaurant in LA!! I loooove the ambience, the food, the workers, evening reminded me of Japan. Def try their chicken meatball skewers. Would come here more often if it weren’t for the commute. とても美味しかったです!!
great food! We asked for an assorted sashimi. It was great but turned out to be really expansive ($80+ for 24 pieces) but worth it. We were celebrating my husband's birthday there. We booked a booth with them. They have really good service about the cake. They helped us store the cake in the fridge when we arrive, take the cake out of the box and present to us. They can also provide lighter and candles if needed.
Food excellent. Staff beyond excellent! All the staff went out of their way to help me and my family get to our destination as tourists! Love this place and love their staff members. Fist 👊 bump to the staff!

Wonderful experience and great food. Highly recommend Hot Pot, Tempora and sashimi. Truly enjoyed our exerience... oh and don't forget the Sake... awesome
The food was great! The service was also good. My sister and I got cute pocket monster plates. Loved this place. Definitely coming back!
Very authentic looking Izakaya right in the middle of Torrance. Loved that the beer comes with frosted cold glasses and the atmosphere is super chill. Plates were a little pricey for the size, but everything was fresh and delicious. The wait staff was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.

Wonderful work dinner last night. The place was busy on a Monday night, which is always a good sign. Atmosphere was nice, very authentic Japanese feel. Menu was strong with a solid mix of hot and cold dishes and a refined selection of sushi. Some highlights were the shishito peppers and mushrooms and the duck. Wagyu skirt steak also a solid order. We did not order the hot pot, but it appeared to be a very popular option for other patrons. Service was friendly and efficient despite being very busy. If you are searching for quality and broad Japanese dining options, this place is for you. If you are looking for a "pure" sushi restaurant, the selection is very good, but perhaps more limited than you might find elsewhere.
The restaurant is not large, with compact seating, and only accepts reservations, no walk-ins. The service is very warm and the quality of the dishes is very high. I really liked it. Many dishes were so good that we ordered another portion after finishing the first. Delicious!
Top Items: - Beef BBQ Yakiniku Salad - Uni & US Kobe Beef Sashimi - Beef Tongue - Yuzu Pork Cheek --- Review --- This is a great and authentic izakaya spot nested in Torrance. They have a pretty large menu for both food and drinks alongside weekly/daily special (make sure you ask for it). You have the option to order their omakase (preselected items) for $58/person with 4 people minimum or order a la carte. I would say both options are equal value so I personally prefer to order exactly what I want. Similar to any izakaya places, the portion size isn't the biggest so don't expect to be stuffed. The food is good but not the best I've ever had. They can get pretty busy so reservation is recommended. Great service with attentive staff. Parking lot is small so you might have to park in neighboring strip malls or on the street. Expect to pay $70-100 per person. Worth a try! I'll be returning!
This is not a yaki-tori izakaya I thought it was. Their tapas dishes are more akin to a sushi bar than a easy going, casual izakaya. Even though we were dining in the parking lot under a popup tent, food felt a bit formal. Reservation is required. I visited on a Tuesday afternoon opening time. Nobody was there, but shortly after, a group of 5 people came to be turned away because no reservation - funny because they had so many tables open and no other patrons showed for at least another hour.

Tofu in the miso did not taste fresh, but shimeji was fresh. Everything else was fine. Atmosphere is nice. Service was nice. Wagyu was okay. Everything was okay.
I drove over 45 mins to meet my associate for brief biz meeting over beers with some izakaza foods. OMG, serves constantly ask us to order more foods and more drinks. We though it was good customer service but it was NOT. They ended to bring bills that we didn't even ask for bills. Most important thing is, the day I went was MONDAY. there was plenty of tables empty.
