Extraordinary perch fingers and chocolate mousse cake, wonderful negroni, beautiful setting, and of course, the world famous Marion. The perch was fresh from the lake and I've not had that pleasure in half a century since my grandmother caught and cooked it for me.
Well, as Google said "I asked for directions to this place" which isn't true, I was looking at a Google map of Stillwater reservoir and clicked on the hotel because it was near the boat launch. Now Google thinks that I'm some sort of expert on this location and should be misleading the general public with a "review". So here goes. Even though I have never been to this place I can say it was very nice, or maybe it wasn't. The rooms had fantastic views of the lake, I think. The food was great but also not very good. There is plenty of ample parking but the lot is very small and crowded. The valet service while non-existent was very well run. The hosts Pete and Marie or whatever thier names are were very accommodating and not nice to deal with. The weather was warm with highs in the low teens and excessively calm with wind gusting to 45 mph. Sunny most days with overcast skies and lots of rain. I'd probably give this 1,2,3,4,or 5 stars, Hope this helps and don't forget to check out my other reviews on ridiculous items google thinks I should review like the 2 by 4 I bought recently at Lowes.
Stillwater Inn is a snowmobile must visit establishment. Marian and Joe have amazing homemade foods. Prime Rib special, fresh pickled beets is amazing. The rooms are comfortable and clean. If your a snowmobile enthusiast Stillwater Inn is a great place to refuel your sled and your body. I can't say enough good things about them.
A fantastic place. Marian and Joe are wonderful hosts. The food was great, the drinks were great. My wife, daughter, and I stayed the night and the room was clean and comfortable. An all around gem.
The gem in the adirondacks. Looking for a getaway... this place has it all. Good food and good drink AND very friendly people. It is a unique place and it's celebrating 100 years in existence. It's a beautiful place right at the end of the road. There are several hotel rooms and a 3 bedroom house you can rent. You can take the barge out to the norridgewock for a day of fun, drink and food. That's another review altogether.
Went there via snowmobile for lunch. Very nice. Prices were good. Food tasted good. You don't like salt. Tell him easy on the salt.
We had the BEST dinner at Stillwater! Marion is so accommodating and friendly. Everything is home made and the desserts are terrific. Thank you Marion and Bob!
The atmosphere is this place is like stepping back in time to another Era. Definitely recommend it! The proprietor is friendly and welcoming. The price is a bit steep, but that's what you get at a tourist place. We ordered some iced coffee and lemon iced tea. They were in extra large cups, and then we ordered the ice cream sundae and it was enough for two. Hopefully we'll be back sometime
Our family has been camping at Stillwater Reservoir for 30 years and I can't believe we have missed this gem until this year. The food was delicious and the fine dining menu was a pleasant surprise. Our party had Chilean sea bass, risotto, prime rib, seafood scampi and lobster ravioli, as well as wine and desserts, and everything was delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. We were treated like guests rather than merely customers. Marion went above and beyond and introduced us to her ducks and hummingbirds. This will be a new tradition that we will be adding to our annual trip.
This evening I met Marian and Joe Romano. In a tough situation, they were all smiles and full of understanding. Ill be honest,I was kind of rude to them and they turned the other cheek and killed it with kindness. I have not yet visited their well known Stillwater Restaurant and Hotel, but if it is any reflection of the owners, it will get 5 stars everyday. It was very nice to meet them both. If this will be the couple who reads this, I look forward to making the next conversation a better one.
I stayed three nights at the Stillwater Hotel. Joe and Marian are excellent hosts, working many hours to ensure your stay is satisfactory. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. My accommodations were very clean and also reasonably priced. Without hesitation I will stay there again. The hummingbirds were an added bonus!
This was my first time visiting. I would not hesitate to return! The owners are the nicest people and take great care of the property. Food is outstanding, rooms are clean and comfortable and the atmosphere is awesome! I would highly recommend this place. I am already looking forward to my next visit.
I head up to Stillwater two or three times a year to camp with my kayak. I usually pack up and head home. This time I decided to have lunch at the hotel. Not that three days of my camping cooking is bad but I was hungry. It has been years since I had the chance to eat there. I had a great lunch, great service, and a friendly server. So happy I stopped. Definately will stop again.
Take off point for Stillwater Reservoir canoe trip. Great service, food. A must stop before or after.
We didn't stay at the hotel but had dinner. View from the patio is awesome. Food was delicious and the service was good. A minor complaint was it got crowded and the patio filled up quickly . The waitress did her best to keep up and did well - but there was little help for her which made us feel bad for her as she was getting pulled in many directions.
Food were great. Staff were okay but still nice and the dogs were cute! One of the staff helped me on my questions about camping in the Adirondacks so that's cool.
Upon walking in, it looks like a very messy gift shop. Bar to left, diner to right. No signs stating whether to wait or seat yourself. No one came up to us (bar was full) so we seated ourselves. Waitress, Jessica, was FANTASTIC! Very attentive and just so friendly, made up for the unsure feeling walking in. We ordered our lunch of Stillwater Steak Sandwich and Bacon mac n cheese. The sandwich was really good, steak you could cut with a fork, the brioche roll needed a knife lol mac n cheese was overpowered by burnt bacon. There was no bacon flavor just burnt pieces. However i did eat it all because i was so hungry. The view from our table was beautiful with the fall colors. Overall. I would def come back to try other items on the menu.
Two of these Stars simply go to the location and the natural beauty of it. You can sit outside or belly up to the. The food is typical bar food and could use more love put Into it. However the destination is so unique your chicken fingers and fries will taste twice as good. As the name implies you can actually rent a room here, although this is one of the top places to camp in the ADK. Next to the restaurant New Management runs the general store. This place is a top destination for snowmobiling if you're into that! Nearby you can climb the Stillwater fire tower which is a great hike for kids.
The place is great and the food is good too. Best crab cakes ice ever had but me and my buddy had lunch here. We had the crab cakes, he had soup, and I had a salad. Each had a coke. $50. Really pricey but kinda understandable because the location. I won't eat here again unless I have a money to blow.
For the past 30 years, I’ve enjoyed all that Stillwater has to offer. The lake, the setting, the bar, the merch… an awesome stop off the trail. This winter was the worst service I’ve had in years. The waitress was rude and barely acknowledged us. The lackluster interaction was bland at best and when we’d given up on ordering dessert after an extended wait, she rudely scoffed “I’m the only server” … which was untrue. The fries were not fully cooked and soaked in oil, perhaps Ore Ida or at best similar to school lunch. The French onion soup was not baked or flavorful, merely a raw, chewy glob of government cheese. There was a dirty dog running in and out of the kitchen and religious garb strewn about. I appreciate a family owned business and all that goes into it, but perhaps it’s time to take a more reflective look at your family business practices.
My partner and I had heard nice things about this place but when we went, it was a completely different story. A very nice waitress Jess began helping us before a very rude lady came over and practically snatched the menus out of our hands telling us they had switched to dinner. She sent the server away telling Jess she would help us instead. She had no idea what drinks we had ordered and never came to tell us if the food we wanted was available and just put in an order. Before our food came she was mumbling about the table being reserved for another couple and we would need to move but lucky for us it was 4:15 and they weren't coming till 6... Why she even brought it up I don't know... very unprofessional. She never checked in to see how our meal were or offered refills. But she wasted no time chatting with people who seemed like "regulars". I guess new customers aren't worth the conversation. We pulled Jess aside and asked her who the owners were as we wanted to say something about how rude this woman had been to her as well as the complete lacking of customer service. It turns out the rude woman WAS the owner. We can see why it is for sale. The owners hearts are just not into it anymore. There was also a huge dog walking in and out of the kitchen and coming up to tables. After we finished eating we sat there for over 15 minutes with no sign of the owner. Jess had been doing her job and helping others and saw us sitting there idly and went to get our server/owner. When the owner came over she seemed annoyed saying Jess had informed her we didn't want dessert and were ready to leave. She told us how the dessert was homemade and wasn't happy when we reaffirmed we were ready to leave. Partially due to the fact the whole meal was awkward and uncomfortable because of her attitude. The portions were tiny for the price, one app, two drinks, a cheeseburger and a BLT cost 70 dollars! We felt very sorry for Jess as she was great but we will not be returning.
