Was Kunden über HONDA-YA sagen
Honda-Ya is praised for its delicious food and excellent service. Customers particularly enjoy the takoyakis with cheese and yakitori. Some find the traditional seating uncomfortable, but regular chairs are available. A common complaint is the automatic addition of the tip to the bill.

Craving yakiniku good place but can be a bit pricey. The chicken thigh with tare is good.
So glad we found this place. We have a new late night sushi spot to go to and we tend to be night owls most nights. The food was delicious and the service was amazing. You will have to wait, but really worth the wait. On a Wednesday night at 11pm we waited 30 minutes. But again, so worth the wait. We had the salmon skin roll and it was ok. We also had the sexy roll and 5 mix sashimi plate and both were amazing 🤤. Big parking lot. The place is ♿️ wheelchair accessible, but I can see how some areas inside might be tight for a wheelchair. Outside seating available on certain days.
Food: 4/5|Service: 5/5|Atmosphere: 5/5 This restaurant really captures the spirit of a classic Japanese izakaya — lively, cozy, and full of energy. The menu is extensive, with nearly a hundred options ranging from yakitori and fried bites to noodles, rice dishes, and grilled items. The skewers are the standout: well-seasoned, nicely charred, and great for sharing. The yakisoba also has that nostalgic savory-sweet flavor that really feels like true izakaya comfort food. Some of the fried dishes were enjoyable, while the sashimi felt more standard — decent, but clearly not the main focus here, which fits the concept. Service was warm, attentive, and efficient despite the crowds, and the staff handled the busy environment very professionally. The atmosphere is where this place truly shines. Compact seating, lively conversations, and a social, casual vibe make it ideal for gatherings and long chats over food and drinks. Be prepared for a wait (often around an hour), but once you’re seated, it’s a fun and engaging dining experience that delivers an authentic izakaya feel.
I had a craving for yakitori and decided to revisit Honda-Ya in Tustin. It’s been years since my last visit, but the food and energy here still hit all the right notes. We came around 8:30 PM and the wait for two was about 25 minutes — not bad considering how packed it can get. The ambiance is cozy and bustling, with warm lantern lighting, wooden decor, and that nostalgic izakaya charm. You can hear the faint sizzle from the grill and laughter from nearby tables, which just adds to the whole experience. We sat at the bar and ordered a mix of skewers: chicken thigh with sauce, shishito peppers, quail eggs, scallops, pork belly, and a few adventurous organ meats. Everything came out perfectly charred and juicy. The chicken thigh with sauce and shishito peppers were absolute standouts — smoky, flavorful, and addictive. The bacon-wrapped tomato remains a classic favorite, bursting with flavor that balances perfectly with the saltiness of the meat. To pair with the skewers, I had the Honda-Ya Original Beer — malty, smooth, and without a bitter aftertaste. It complemented the food perfectly. Service was quick and friendly, even with how busy it was. Skewers were an easy 5/5, ambiance 4.5/5, and service 5/5. Prices are on the steeper side for yakitori, but given the quality and atmosphere, it’s well worth an occasional visit. Pro tip: sit at the bar for the best experience — you get to watch the chefs work their magic right over the grill.
Great place to eat. The wait wasn’t too long. We sit at the bar it was fun to watch them cook. Tasty food nice atmosphere.
I had the pleasure of dining at Honda Ya in Tustin and their skewers are exceptional. Each skewer was grilled to perfection, with the meats juicy and flavorful. The variety on offer was impressive, allowing us to try everything from chicken to tender beef and succulent shrimp. The atmosphere was cozy and the service attentive, making for a delightful dining experience. If you're in the area, don't miss out on these delicious skewers!
We visited during lunch time, so there weren't many options. However, the food was amazing! We ordered several types of stew and all of them were delicious. I highly recommend the beef tongue, pork belly, skin, and chicken cartilage. We also loved the vibe of the restaurant - it really felt like we were in Japan.
I came back to Honda-Ya again last night, and just like every visit before, it absolutely did not disappoint. From my very first time here to now several visits later, this place continues to deliver consistent excellence in both service and food. Even when it’s busy or winding down toward the end of the night, the staff never misses a beat. Our servers are always incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely make you feel welcome without being overbearing. They’re quick to take care of anything you need and always maintain such a pleasant, professional attitude. As for the food—absolutely phenomenal. Everything is prepared with such care, and you can tell the chefs put real attention into both the flavor and presentation. The lamb is hands-down my favorite—perfectly seasoned and tender every time. The pork belly is a close second, rich and flavorful with that perfect balance of crisp and melt-in-your-mouth texture. I also highly recommend the Japanese beef, which is so juicy and savory, and the soft shell crab, which is lightly crisped and full of flavor. And then there’s the miso soup… wow. I always end up ordering two or three bowls throughout the meal—it’s honestly the best I’ve ever had anywhere. I don’t know what they do differently, but it’s rich, deeply umami, and incredibly comforting. It elevates the entire dining experience. Yes, Honda-Ya can be a bit on the pricey side, but every single dish is worth it. The quality, consistency, and atmosphere make it more than just a meal—it’s an experience. This has become one of my go-to spots for a reason, and I’ll keep coming back as long as they keep serving food and service at this level.
I love this place so much. I came here 3xs already. I took my family here especially my mom was so excited to have some dishes that you couldn't find at any other resturants like this place. It reminded me of back home in Okinawa. It's so hard ti find a good Okinawa resturant. It took me way back. My mom was even delighted. We ordered so much and highly recommend everything here. The customer service is amazing. Auntie that works here she's super sweet and she's so attentive. Very good hospitality. She just adds to the experience. She ensured we were well taken care of. We sat in the tatami room. So warning to those who have a bad knee or weak back. But it's a pleasant experience. The quality and price of the food is great affordable. And if your looking to have a good time and enjoy yourself whether it be with friends, on a date, or with family highly recommend you will feel like your part of the family coming here. Can't wait to go back because the food just melts in your melt..so delicious.
Came here for lunch and Yakitory don is an amazing deal! Good amount of food and everything was delicious. We ordered Yakitory don, some skewers, potato salad, and yakiudon. On top of skewers, I highly recommend yakisoba or yakiudon also.
Honda-Ya in Tustin is an absolute gem. The food and prices are fantastic, and everything we ordered came out quickly and fresh. I tried the prime skirt skewers, sausage, garlic shrimp, jumbo shrimp, several of the soba options, and the asparagus wrapped in bacon — every single dish was packed with flavor and cooked perfectly. You can really tell they take pride in both the quality and consistency of their food. The servers were incredibly attentive without being overbearing, which made the whole experience even better. If you’re looking for great Japanese comfort food and a lively, welcoming atmosphere, I would highly recommend checking this place out.
Honda-Ya offers a fantastic dining experience with a lively, welcoming atmosphere and an impressively extensive menu. There are plenty of unique and creative dishes to choose from, making it a great spot for anyone looking to try something new. The food quality is excellent, and the service is attentive and friendly throughout the meal. Overall, it’s a great little date-night spot that delivers on both flavor and ambiance.
Excellent food, lively atmosphere. We loved sharing family-style at our table while drinking warm sake. Sushi was good and all of the grilled food top notch. We thought maybe our server didn't like us, but she was just overwhelmed with the busy evening. She was very nice towards the end of our meal when things were calmer in the restaurant.
Muy buena comida y servicio excelente solo que para mi edad .. sentarme en el piso como lo hacen los asiáticos es muy incómodo pero para eso cuentan con sillas regulares.. lo recomiendo
Exelente servicio yakitori sabrosos potbelly beef tongue Japanese 🍡 beef .
Comida deliciosa y excelente ambiente, recomiendo como entrada los takoyakis con queso
Servicio muy rápido y rico ... Para entrar si te demoras un poco
The food was amazing. The servers were very attentive and nice. I was not prepared for how big their menu was. I enjoyed most of things we tried. I was disappointed in the beef teriyaki which was way overcooked and dry. The sashimi and yakitori is what you want to stick with. Located in a shopping center. Lots of free parking, although it gets crowded.
It's on the expensive side, but if you crave good Japanese skewers, this is the place to be. They seemed to clear the plates really quickly though, which may make you feel rushed. Overall, great ambiance and delicious even if expensive.
I absolutely love this place! I’ve visited several times and finally had to leave a review. I brought my daughter and some friends, and everyone was so impressed. The food was amazing, everything we ordered was delicious and melted in your mouth. Especially The Yellowtail Belly Sashimi $19.95 was super fresh and flavorful, and the Japanese Beef $17.85 was incredibly tender. The prices are fair, and the quality is excellent. This time, we ordered a lot for just the three of us. When I got home and looked over the bill, I noticed we were charged for the Bacon Asparagus $10.50 but it was never brought to the table, that was a bit disappointing. I usually take pictures of everything that comes out because I love sharing on Yelp, and it wasn’t there. We sat on chairs without back support not the most comfortable, but it was still a nice experience overall. The service was outstanding, our server was so sweet and attentive, making sure we were well taken care of. Whether you’re coming with family, friends, or on a date, you’ll feel right at home here. Can’t wait to go back but make sure to check your bill before you leave. Be prepared for significant waits, especially on weekends and during peak dining hours and limited parking !
My husband and I stopped here on our way back to San Diego from Long Beach. This was one of the restaurants that was open late night. The restaurant is cute, I enjoyed the vibe and enjoyed the menu with the pictures (super visual person). We ordered the potato croquettes, a Sexy Roll and the Tonkatsu Ramen. I do not recommend the ramen, it was not good and the taste of lemongrass was overwhelming. We enjoyed the croquettes and sushi. After reading other reviews I would try the skewers if I went back.
Esta bien el lugar, pero ellos solos ponen el tip y no avisan, de ahí ahí en fuera la comida es rica y es rápida.
I have been a loyal customer of Honda-Ya for over 20 years, consistently coming back because of the great memories and experiences I’ve had here. Today, I visited again with friends from Torrance and LA, while hosting from my home in Irvine. For me, Honda-Ya has always been more than just a restaurant—it’s been a place filled with memories. My wife and I had our very first date here, and it was also the very first restaurant I took my child to. This place has always carried a special meaning in my life. When it comes to the food, it was exactly as I remembered from my first visit two decades ago—comforting, consistent, and enjoyable. Unfortunately, the overall experience today was far from the Honda-Ya I have loved and supported for years. At some point during our meal, I couldn’t help but feel that we were being rushed to leave. Our plates were being cleared away before we were even finished, and without any prior notice, we were suddenly informed about a two-hour dining limit. It was frustrating to hear this not when we were seated or placing our first order, but in the middle of our dining experience, as if we were being hurried out. Only later, on our way out, did I see the posted notice about this policy. But by then, the damage was done. Basic courtesy and common sense would suggest that such an important rule should be communicated upfront, not enforced mid-meal in such an abrupt manner. What makes this experience even more disappointing is my history with this restaurant. During the pandemic, when I was worried Honda-Ya might not survive, I consistently ordered takeout every week to show support and do my part as a loyal customer. That was how much this restaurant meant to me. Tonight, the four of us spent $403 within two hours—easily the highest per-person spend I’ve made here in all these years. And yet, despite being among the most loyal of customers and spending generously, I felt I received the worst treatment I’ve ever experienced at Honda-Ya. It’s truly disheartening. I will always cherish the memories I’ve made here over the past two decades, but after tonight, I can no longer see myself coming back. In the end, what hurts the most is not the money spent, but realizing that the place I once considered special no longer feels the same.
Oh how this place has fallen. It is now basically a Mexican restaurant attempting to serve Japanese food. I challenge you to find a single Japanese person in the kitchen. When tasting the food, there is a complete lack of the signature care and pride in the preparation that you would typically expect of a Japanese restaurant. All 10 of the skewers we ordered were very overcooked and dry, and over seasoned. Even the Hamachi Kama was black, burned, and dry. The salmon sashimi was sliced razor thin, talk about cutting corners. Our last dish the snow crab zoushi never arrived, and after sitting there for 20 mins we finally got a waiter to confirm it was never put in. After spending $60 a person we were left hungry and very upset. It seems the owners have cashed out and let this place auto run on cheap labor. Good for them, bad for us. I will say the chicken meatballs were delicious and very smoky. So if you want to have some meatballs and some mediocre overpriced sushi with chaotic service, enjoy.
Honda-Ya has been one of our favorite restaurants, which makes this experience especially disappointing. While dining, we observed a large COCKROACH on a wooden pillar next to our table in the dining area. The staff offered a discount, which we appreciate, but the situation was concerning from a sanitation perspective. I hope the restaurant addresses this issue promptly.
