Oveja Negra is exactly what Santana Row does best—bold, welcoming, and effortlessly social. The food is vibrant and beautifully presented, the cocktails are playful without being gimmicky, and the atmosphere feels curated for people who actually want to linger and connect. What really stands out is how naturally the space supports community energy: families, couples, and groups all coexisting without it feeling chaotic. It’s the kind of place that elevates the entire Row and would pair perfectly with light, family-friendly live entertainment or pop-up moments that enhance the guest experience rather than distract from it. A great example of how Santana Row succeeds when food, atmosphere, and shared experience are in sync. BTW short ribs are definitely delicious!
From the very first moment, they made us feel welcome. The food is exquisite, and the service shows true passion for what they do. A place that exceeds expectations… thank you, Chef Pedro.
I had the pleasure of dining at Oveja Negra during my stay at the Hotel Valencia, and I can confidently say it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. I made a reservation and was greeted warmly upon arrival. The service throughout the evening was impeccable—attentive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. The food was phenomenal. I started with the octopus, which was perfectly tender and flavorful. The sea bass was equally impressive, cooked to perfection with a beautiful balance of textures and flavors. To finish, the rice pudding was simply divine—rich, creamy, and the perfect end to a fantastic meal. The ambiance of the restaurant was elegant and inviting, adding to the overall experience. It was the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to linger and savor every moment. I absolutely loved my evening at Oveja Negra and will definitely return the next time I’m in town. Highly recommended!
Finally came here after walking past it for years in Santana Row. I wish I had come sooner because I feel like I had been missing out. Came for dinner and had the tapas and paellas. We had both the rabbit and lobster paellas which was very flavorful and full of toppings. I only wish there was more of a crisp on the bottom, but it was still good and I’d get it again. For tapas we got the octopus which was amazing, the patatas which was solid, and the cauliflower which was refreshing. I was so happy with the meal, we came back in a few days to try the breakfast. It was a good breakfast but it was just American style, not anything Spanish or special there. There’s not a lot of breakfast places in Santana Row so it’s still a good spot for it, especially since they open early.
Food are good, flavorful. Seafood in paella were fresh, flavor was rich and balance. The seafood paella we had here is better than those we had in Cascal. No socarrat but I have yet to find a paella in the US that has a proper socarrat. The search continue. We also had octopus and beef cheeks. The mushroom next to the beef cheek really stood out. As in most restaurants, foods tend to be more salty than I prefer but that’s just me. The manchego cheesecake exceeded expectation. Not as sweet as most, the way I like it, and it has more depth to the taste. The only complain is there is no sign to show that the restaurant is hiding on the 3rd floor. Added bonus is they have outdoor seating for my dogs 😍
Located within Valencia hotel, it’s a little hidden. It’s on the 3rd floor across the hotel reception, so just take the elevator up. Tastefully decorated with live music playing, this place is a hidden gem. We loved the Sea Bass, the seafood paella and the roasted cauliflower. Must try in the dessert is the Torrija
Must try!! Beautiful outdoor dining that gives true European vibes. A wonderful menu - we tried 4 dishes and each was delicious. The Patatas Bravas are a non-negotiable. The beef cheek with mushroom purée is also a go-to. Vegetarian paella was a ‘maybe order again’ for me, but my fiancée loved it. The mushrooms were good, but could be skipped if you order this mix. The live music truly added to the atmosphere, and the staff was welcoming and accommodating, offering to bring us a heat lamp in advance. Would not hesitate to visit again.
We had an excellent breakfast at the hotel Valencia's restaurant "Oveja Negra". The avocado toast was A+ (I asked them to cook the egg all the way through), here's a photo!
Celebrated my wedding anniversary here! It was wonderful. The hosts and entire staff were polite & friendly. Our food was ready within 20 minutes. We loved the atmosphere. This place is perfect for any occasion. I recommend the patatas bravas, they are very tasty and you can’t get them anywhere else!
We had a beautiful time in this wonderful restaurant. It was an evening with friends. Devoured the yummy food and the gambas were to die for. Even the sea bass on a bed of artichoke was delish. I loved my sangria. I would love to sit inside next time for a more wholesome experience. Definitely a must try.

Cool space! The inside was busy when we visited so we sat outside which was nice! There is a small balcony with the street view which you can have access to through the inside bar. There are a few seats available there as well. The service was good and the drinks were okay, too, but not something different than other bars. The vibe is cool! So check it out!

5th time dining and what I can say is food is consistently good. Great ambiance is service is always warm. Will continue to come back
We really loved the atmosphere! Gorgeous courtyard with a fountain and lovely lighting. Good food. Decent wine list but only a few Spanish wines unfortunately. The service was extremely slow. Waited for the bill for 30 minutes, another 20 to get out of there.
Located at Santana Row, inside the Hotel Valencia. Take the elevator up to the third floor, same level as the hotel check in and bar. Food was good and for the most part, won't disappoint. It's not the most flavorful tapas or paella I've had, but satisfying. If the claim is fine dining, then there's some work needed to improve the experience (would have appreciated a different set of flatware and silverware between courses). Staff was friendly.
Oveja Negra is located on the third floor of Hotel Valencia in San Jose. It is a tapas restaurant that serves small, flavorful dishes. I recently tried a few of their dishes, which were good. I will definitely be back to try their paella next time, as it looked amazing. The restaurant has a nice setting and the service is excellent.
If you are looking for Tapas style dining experience in little bit business style setting you can’t go wrong with Oveja. Hidden on 3rd floor of hotel Valencia serves exception food with excellent service! We were a party of half a dozen and pretty much ordered everything from food menu and everything was delicious. Been to Santana Row hundreds of times but never explored this place until today when it was recommended by a colleague. They can do a better job in marketing this place! Not super upscale but you will get bang for your bucks.
Feels very secure and cozy. Most of food is excellent. But, serving is quite slow and the meat was too overcooked than my request.
Oveja Negra has an awesome vibe and atmosphere! We loved that it was quieter and outside so we could enjoy the beautiful evening. The food was good and we ordered the squid ink paella and a number of appetizers to share. Both the white wine and red wine sangrias were yummy but had notes of lychee which was unexpected. Being that I am from Spain I noticed that not everything was true to spanish cuisine. But there was definitely a couple dishes that were spot on like the patatas bravas and the cheese and meats plate! Enjoy!

The service at the restaurant was excellent, from the warm welcome by the host to the attentive care of our server. We started with the appetizers, and they were enjoyable, both the croquettes and the octopus were great. Unfortunately, the paella was a major disappointment. It was burnt on the bottom, and the burnt flavor permeated the entire dish. The only other flavor was an overwhelming amount of garlic, which overshadowed everything else. While I typically enjoy paella with a “crispy” bottom, this was not crispy at all, just charred chunks of burnt food that were unpleasant to eat. The restaurant itself is beautiful, with a lovely ambiance, and the service was top-notch. However, given the quality of the paella, I wouldn’t return, especially with Suspiro down the street offering a far superior version of this classic dish (and much cheaper too).

Food was not worth the price. Charcuterie board had obviously been made in advance and sat for a long time before being served. Same with the dessert. Short rib was just roast beef not actual short rib. Interior is concrete all around with no acoustic padding so every sound rings out like a gun shot. No one was out to greet guests. We had to have hotel staff go find a host to seat us. Minimum tip option ended up being over $40 or about 1/3 the cost of the bill.

The place is nice but the food was horrible. Nothing was seasoned. The meat was raw or medium rare. Not one course was enjoyable. I had to eat somewhere else after dinner. For $200 per person and even $30 for an additional cocktail, I won't return.

I had my 60th birthday celebration with about 14 of my closest friends. Was not at all impressed with the food! Everyone there said how I cook better pallea! I did not find one piece of chorizo and barely tasted any saffron. I felt I was overcharged for the quality! The bread I ordered was $60 and I did not think that they spent more than $20 to make it, but the worst was the seafood pallea it came with shrimp with heads and eyes! The service was okay I was charged a $50 cake cutting fee but my friends actually cut it themselves. The ambiance was okay and the sangria was just blah at $50 per pitcher none the less I'm grateful that the restaurant could accommodate my guests, but very dissatisfied in the servers they only came to bring food, never once asked if we needed anything else! Because I'm an excellent tipper I over tipped the restaurant, and I'm about to email the manager to have him send me an itemized receipt! Overall I said I would maybe recommend the restaurant to others, but I will be honest about my experience! Maybe because of the economy the restaurants have all gone down, I feel this is the case with this restaurant. But when one spends nearly $1000 for mediocre food one wants to let others know about their experience! Overall I left unhappy! I rate the restaurant and the food two stars ! The service 2 stars and the ambiance and location 4 stars so I'm giving an overall three stars rating.
