Amazing AUTHENTIC Mexican food. Have eaten here many times and it is always absolutely delicious. Staff is always very nice and kind.
Love the food. the best Mexican food. I am sad that its so far from us. But we will definitely be back and drive a 1hr to come and eat.
Always delicious and amazing food. Staff is super kind and hospitable. Love the inside decorations and music. I keep coming back!
Small town family owned business. Speedy service. On the square in Venus. Good served in a timely manner. Friendly staff. Some sweet pastries are also available. It's small and seating is limited. Good was good. Several options to choose from. Combo fajitas were served quickly. It was hot and tasted fresh. Chips and salsa are crunchy and you get two different hot sauces.
I have to say I've eaten it a ton of Mexican and South American Cuban and other food establishments but this was truly a treat. The food was very well made and you could tell that they use high quality ingredients and they really care about what they're presenting to the customer. Everything was fresh hot tasty and it was made to order and brought out quickly in the service was exceptional. Such a neat little location in the downtown area in the corner building. Beautifully decorated and a pleasure to dine in.
Sorry no pictures too hungry to stop and take pictures. The food was amazing, only $8.99 for two chicken enchiladas rice and beans! The music was nice and soft the atmosphere was quiet but comfortable. Let's support local!
Overall 5/5 experience! Delicious , authentic, and so so yummy!!
Lovely atmosphere. Got 4 fajita tacos and 4 barbacoa tacos, and let me tell you... Absolutely delicious. Not a morsel left. The beans and rice are phenomenal. Can't wait to try the other items! Check them out you will not be disappointed
I eat out a lot more now that I've found fantastic authentic Mexican food. If you have a chance, this one will bring you back.
Very nice! Excellent food! Clean and welcoming atmosphere
When visiting my mom, they have delicious vegan options for me while also satisfying my mom as well who is a very picky eater. Great place to eat!
Have been here several times & it never disappoints!! If you want authentic Mexican food - this is your place. The plates are generous & flavorful. Their staff is kind & attentive. The atmosphere is cultural and located in historic downtown in Venus, but you feel like you’re in a distant place when you walk through the door. Highly recommend!!
Stopped by here after hunting in the area. Very friendly staff and excellent food. The barbacoa was DELICIOUS! This will be the new stop while in Venus.
This place is truly one of a kind! The homemade Mexican food is consistently delicious, with rich, authentic flavors that make every visit unforgettable. Whether you’re craving breakfast, lunch, or dinner, they’ve got you covered with amazing options at any time of day. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a great meal. One of the highlights is the variety of salsas—each one packed with incredible flavor, offering something for everyone. Plus, they even have a small bakery and coffee shop, making it a great spot to grab a fresh pastry and a great cup of coffee. If you’re looking for real, homemade Mexican food that never disappoints, this is the place to be!
Casa J is an absolute gem, a needle in a haystack! You would never know such an incredible eatery could be found off the beaten path in Venus, Texas. Their food is fresh and made right before your eyes. This is not your standard boring "tex mex," it has a real authentic flair to it. I have never liked chicken enchiladas until I tried them here, and now they are my favorite!! The queso blanco and crema are perfect. My husband's favorite are CJ's nachos with shrimp. My girlfriends and I love coming on weekends for brunch, where you can get the most amazing waffles covered in whipped cream, strawberries, and almond shavings. The eggs and papas are incredible too. Truthfully, there's nothing I've had here that wasn't hands and shoulders above any other Mexican restaurant I've been to. I would make a special trip regardless of the distance for Casa Jacaranda! It's worth the drive! Don't miss it!
The owner Josefina really cares about her customers. Awesome food quality, service, authenticity, and presentation, along with good prices. The atmosphere is cozy and family-like!
What an incredible meal: Chips and homemade salsa were outstanding, great flavor with fresh made chips. Quesaberria was next. Awesome. Consume was very good. Huarache was next got the beef. Better than most. Put the red salsa on it and it was that much better. Ended meal with Flan and Churros. Hard to go wrong either way. Took home some bakery goods. Will update. 9/10 stars
Food was great! Service was awesome. Mole delicious.
Stopped in today as we were driving by Venus. I remembered the post, so, we decided to stop by. Wow! A small detail about us. We grew up in a Mexican household, not Texmex, so we actually don't care much for chimichaguritotacos and all of that jazz or places with hot sauce that says extreme and it's about as spicy as ketchup with black pepper. We ordered some breakfast burritos, and I hesitantly ordered the menudo. We're the type that ONLY eat homemade menudo because we've been disappointed so many times before that we don't even try. I asked the young lady at the counter if it was spicy, that smile said it all. She said it was for her... Nice.. Well, that was one of the best bowls of restaurant menudo that I have ever tasted. The meat was so clean, tender and soft. Broth really was spicy and delicious. The barbacoa tacos were not greasy at all. The salsas for the table were tasty and spicy. We spoke to the owner, Josefina, and she was so delightful. We live in Mansfield, but happened to go to the Venus one. Whether it's Mansfield Venus, we will definitely be back again. PS - the pan dulce was really good too.
Wow! Amazing food. I mean amazing. Had a party of 8. You order at the counter and find a seat. If you need help they will spend the time to help you. Home made....almost everything. I mean it. Everything except for the kids meal chicken nuggets. Is what I head. We will be back. Gluten free options available.
Several friends and I made the drive down from Fort Worth to beautiful downtown Venus, Texas. It was well worth the drive. Casual atmosphere. Cozy seating. Absolutely wonderful Tex-Mex and Mexican food. My grandmother from Mexico would make chicken mole for me as a special treat when I visited. The mole sauce on the mole enchiladas at Casa Jacaranda was the first sauce I have had in 50 years that was as good as my grandmother's. Go there and enjoy.
I love this place. Been coming here for several years as many as like 8-10 years And the breakfast has always been stellar.Food's good services, great, small quaint place. Gives me a sense of old mexico in the middle of texas. Today I was treated by the owner. She's an older lady that cooks incredibly well.
Oh my goodness I love this little place. Delicious white queso is a must. my roommate have the enchiladas while I have the street taco plate both were phenomenal. There was a small snafu where they forgot are chips and queso but it was well worth the wait. Overall a fabulous place definitely worth trying. Be sure and check the hours before you go.
Cozy & Hospitable!!! As soon as you walk in you're greeted with a welcome followed closely by the smells from the kitchen sizzling away. Both visits back to back left us feeling warm with full bellies. The cafe de la olla was spot on and traditional flavors tightly knit with meticulous care can be found in whichever dish you decide to enjoy. We'll definitely be back for more! #LosDeLaEfe
Great little Mexican restaurant bringing some life into downtown Venus, TX, serving up authentically delicious food. You order at the counter, which we found fast and efficient, then sit. In our case, food arrived within a minute or two of ordering, hot and beautifully composed. I had the huarache, a long corn tortilla topped with beans, rice, chicken, and a really delicious crema. I also ordered the chips & salsa; the chips are clearly house-made, on the thick side, crunchy and perfect for scooping the two types of salsa. The green salsa was pleasantly hot and well-seasoned, while the red salsa was very smooth and thin, a good foil for the sturdy chips. Everything was delicious!
If you enjoy small, unique, down to earth places to eat. This is the place to go. It's located in the quiet town of Venus,Tex. When you first turn onto the street stay on the look at as you might accidentally drive passes it. It's a small venue with just a few seats but don't let discourage you. When you walk in you feel at home. It gives you the feeling of walking into abuelita's house in Mexico. Their decor is on point and their food is just like abuelita's. This was our first time going so we made sure we each tried something different. The menu is not large so it makes it easier to choose. Everything is home made from the chips, to salsa, to their Mexican bread and desserts. For all those who enjoy some hot chocolate or coffee with their bread. They do have a coffee bar. What makes this place feel at home, is everyone is so helpful and generous.
If you want to experience authentic Mexican food this is the place!! they have their own in house tortilla factory and they make your own sweet bread; Everything from the ambience; Mexican style dishes; the music; to the décor is well done. this place would do phenomenally in the city but their in the small town of Venus. It's worth the drive!!!! We had chilaquiles; pollo en mole; mexican style Tacos. Did I mention they have several types of hot sauces, all delicious
So a friend recommended this place and we are so glad we went. The atmosphere is superb 👌 flavor profile of the food is 100% Mexican authentic (Not TexMex) The pan dulce (sweet bread) is baked fresh everyday and the texture and taste again, are 100% Mexican authentic! They can get pretty busy at lunchtime, so just be prepared to wait in line for a while...but it's worth the wait!
Great food, I had the quesabirria plate, very very good and my husband had the guisado it too great but one little thing they don't give you much bean, it's like a tablespoon, but over all very good food. GPTX
The food is so delicious! The tortillas are great! I absolutely loved the salsa Verde! They should sell that if they dont already!! I can't wait to bring my other half here to see how he feels about the food!
Great place to eat! A little restaurant, but great food! Service was great. With it being our first time here to eat, we were walked through the menu and the ordering process(where to order/pay). The food was phenomenal! We got the cheese enchiladas and the haurache with the spicy option. It definitely was full of flavor and it was a good portion! It had a nice kick to it as well. The chips and salsa were fresh. The queso blanco was great too. Moving out this way, this is sure to be a favorite spot of ours.
The food was absolutely fantastic. Everything is fresh, homemade, and full of flavor! The staff was friendly. The owners were passionate about their restaurant. The decor was unique, well thought out, and unique. We had street tacos, fajita salad, and fajita nachos. The nachos were over the top! Highly recommended! It's worth the drive from anywhere.
Friends of our recommended this place. Wow! Who knew a place like this would be found in Venus. Worth the drive is you are not local. The service and venue was great. Located on their old square in a brick building on the corner. The food is amazing! We ordered three different dishes and shared them all. Full of flavor and homemade. Their salsa is worth the extra charge. Their chips are also homemade and great! The dishes are presented amazing as well.
Food, presentation, atmosphere was 10/10. I felt like I was eating breakfast tacos made by my Abuela-Probably the best mexican food I have had in a long time!
Check the pictures out. The food look postcard perfect. And taste that way also.
Super authentic Mexican food, easily a 10/10! Every bite was packed with incredible flavor. It was so good that I literally had to order another plate because the first one disappeared too fast. If you’re looking for real, flavorful Mexican food, this place is a must. Highly recommend! 🔥
Atmosphere, service, and price are all excellent. Some of the best Mexican food I've ever had, and I'm 1/256th Mexican.
Best Mexican food I’ve had in Texas! So fresh, tasty, and made with love!! Clean, calm atmosphere- the perfect weekly spot.
Who would’ve known one of the best Mexican restaurants I’ve ever had would be right here in my tiny hometown 😊 everything was so fresh and the service was unbeatable
Wow! This is exactly the kind of place you hope to find in a small town. The food was absolutely incredible – you can tell they use fresh ingredients and put a lot of love into every dish. I had the street tacos and the flavors were perfectly balanced and truly authentic. As amazing as the food was, the service was even better. Our server was so friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. You don't get this kind of genuine hospitality everywhere. We will definitely be back and will be telling all our friends. Highly, highly recommend!
Amazing food and service! This was our first time and came from Fort Worth. We were with a big group and every person loved what they ordered. I had the Huarache Nopalitos and it was probably the best Mexican dish I’ve ever had! Everything was fresh and delicious. And the owners are so sweet and attentive. We can’t wait to go back to try brunch.
This is our goto in Venus and worth the drive. The Huarache is my favorite and it sERVES every time. Hubs went with pastor street tacos, tender and scrumptious. It’s never packed, so right in, order and be treated like family. Don’t forget the pastries! Pan delce, piña empanadas, and huge cookies.
Our family made a lunch stop in this sweet, little town, and the food at Casa Jacaranda was amazing! I had the huarache with nopalitos. It was delicious. So much so, no picture was taken. 😆 The husband had the tacos al carbón with fajita chicken. Two thumbs up! The kids had breakfast tacos and left nothing behind.
This is the main place my husband and I crave when we're away from this part of Texas. The ambiance is cozy and cute, everyone is friendly, and the food is a 10. It's always delicious, I've never had anything disappointing here, I'm sorry to make deciding more difficult but you can't go wrong! The mole enchiladas and tortas are my favorites so far 😍 We finally took my husband's family here, who were wanting more authentic and delicious food, and they've been raving about it since!
I travel all over Texas ...weekly. I've had a lot of bad Mexican food so I wasn't expecting too much from this place in the little town. However, I was pleasantly surprised. We were warned that the salsa could be really hot... it wasn't. At least not for our taste. I found the black salsa to be especially good. The staff were all very friendly and the food came out promptly. As for the food, I found the chicken fajitas to be very good along with the beans and rice. My friends had the green chicken enchiladas and the Huarache. Both reported the food to be great and were as surprised as I was. All in all, I definitely recommend this place. I wish all my experiences were this good.
Absolutely loved this place and location. I had already been to their Mansfield location and decided to venture out and go all the way to Venus Tx just for fun, it was well worth the drive. Their food is delicious and so authentic! They also have Mexican pastries (pan dulce) a lot of variety, the staff was so friendly and attentive. The aesthetics are so cute, makes you feel like if you’re somewhere in Mexico. I highly recommend any of their locations and their pozole, was on point by the way.
Great place to go to get authentic local Mexican food. Dining in is certainly a better choice than ordering to-go. The food is quite expensive for the portions that you get, but the flavor and taste makes up for the price. The churros are a personal favorite of mine as I order them by the dozen at least once a week.
Went there around 1 on Sunday. Not full service stuff. Must order at counter. Food was quick. Wife liked the quesabirilla with their chipotle salsa which was really good. I had chiquiles with verde sauce. The reason I'm giving a 3 on food is the fajita beef & barbacoa seemed reheated & it ordered over hard eggs in the chiquiles & got runny.
Update 8/24/25 Food is still great! We went last weekend. Their menudo is the best. Also ordered their chorizo and egg burritos. Very good. The food is great. The place is clean. Waiters are friendly. Menudo is the best. It’s a nice little place. You should give it a try. We drive from Arlington to Venus every couple of months to eat here and we have never been disappointed. However Now that the place has been there a while and it’s not a secret anymore so the tables are super wobbly from abuse. I know it’s hard to run a restaurant, but the owners should spend a few bucks on some tables otherwise someone like myself might slightly bump the table which would cause a tall Mexican coke bottle to tip over and hit a big glass of tea and spill it all over the floor. 🥴 Ugh! Sorry about that. The two tables we tried to sit at were very wobbly. I can take a little wobble on the tables but these were BAD! Almost to the point where I don’t want to come back for fear of getting a bad table again. We will be back and hopefully the tables get fixed or replaced. Fingers crossed. The food is really good!
Would've been 5, but the beans and rice well luke warm at best. The chille rellono was good with the chicken, nice size too. The mole enchilada was good would've liked it a little spicier. Chios and salsa and queso good, small portion of chips. Don't forget this is BYOB. Nice cozy place and even seating outside.
Very stingy with guacamole. Small portions. They charge for chips and salsa and give you 3 ounces of salsa for chips. Food tastes good. Barely understand when taking your order. To difficult I stopped going here. Barbacoa tastes like brisket
The food was quite delicious, and the salsa was fresh! However, the order taker got my order wrong and didn't seem to think it was my fault. Additionally, the bathroom light was off. I had to wash my hands in the dark. When I let the server know, she insisted on showing me where the light was. It was about 6 feet up near the door. But as you step into a very dark room, you will not know where it is unless you go there often or work there.
The Birria tacos - wow - rice? Amazing, enchilada? Good, chili rellano- my brothers favorite. Love this place. And the sweet tea is so good. food GREAT, service not so much
I really wanted to try it because it's a recommended local restaurant, but I have to walk away with just an average rating. The best thing is that the people are friendly and the atmosphere is nice enough. However, the food portion seems small, especially for the price. I paid $12.99 for the combo fajita plate that barely had any beef and no guacamole (costs extra). It came with flour tortillas, which I didn't try. I didn't like the rice or beans, but took them home for someone else to eat. Also, the chips and salsa are not free, but good. The green and roasted salsa are delicious. The red one is not spicy at all. The soda was $2.25 per can. You can try it for yourself, because everyone has an opinion.
We got there just after 1pm on a Friday. Three workers standing around. One other table with customers. Couldn't hear ourselves think over the music. Ordered at the counter and were instructed to sit at any (dirty) table we liked. We were told 2x the guacamole was about to be made fresh to go with the chips and salad/queso we had to pay for. I had chicken and cheese enchiladas with queso. Very little filling, so just flour tortillas and queso, all lukewarm. The 1/2 cup of guacamole arrived as we were finishing our meal. First and last time we'll go there.
Very very small tacos. Nice flavor but not enough meat to absolutely enjoy the taco. The sizes of rice and beans is way too small portions. Could be better if given more amounts of meat and rice and beans.
If you need proof that Google is loaded with fake positive reviews, come eat here. Service is awful. No speaky English. And the place absolutely REEKS of cheap cigars and/or cigarette smoke. And not in an enduring, "olden days" kinda way. I'll be sticking with Don Chano in Alvarado.
I had been here before and absolutely loved it, so this was a huge disappointment. When we walked in only one table was full. On a Saturday night. That should have been a clue. Paying for chips and salsa is just wrong. But we did and also ordered a side of guacamole, along with beef fajitas, a beef enchilada plate, and two sweet teas. We waited quite a bit and one of the employees brought a plate of barely warm fajita meat, some beans and rice, and a barely noticeable scoop of guacamole. No cheese or pico. That’s it. I went to the counter and the woman who brought the meat assured me the tortillas were coming. I let her know that I was there because we never received our chip, salsa, and guacamole, along with our drinks. She said something to another employee and I sat back down. They finally brought us some stale chips, a bowl of watery salsa that wasn’t even half full, and what had to be the smallest bowl of guacamole I’ve ever seen. I quickly looked at their online menu and saw it cost $3.50. Being that you paid when you ordered, I didn’t have the energy to argue. When we got the rest of our food and drinks, I asked if they had any silverware. Considering she’d been to our table twice, I was genuinely surprised that she was surprised we didn’t have any. Once we started eating, it was no better. The only thing on the table that was more than lukewarm were the tortillas for the fajitas. And they were tasty. That’s the only reason I gave the restaurant two stars instead of one. It would’ve been one thing had the place been packed. But cold food on a Saturday night when you are one of two tables in the entire restaurant is unacceptable. To make matters worse, their POS system asks if you’d like to tip when you pay, before you get your food. I tipped 20% and regret doing so. In all honesty, I never stiff anyone, but 5% would’ve been more appropriate. I don’t know what happened, but that’s not the same place I’d been to before. Won’t be back.
Such a highly recommended disappointment. I've lived in Venus 4 years and not sure if its the weekends or what. The asada is always overcooked I just spent 50 bucks and my family is asking why are these tacos so crunchy. Last time I got a torta, crunchy asada. This is our last time coming here, but just want people to know authentic food doesn't always mean its cooked right. I always feel like I'm eating meat from the previous week when I eat here.
I normally don't leave a bad review, but this is kind of worth it. I read all the other reviews, and almost every single review praised this place. I had to repeat my order quite a few times. They forgot our appetizer, and when I brought it up, they got the order wrong. They fixed it, cool! Then our food comes out, and my order is wrong. 3 plates (with a smalllllll portion of food), 3 drinks, and an appetizer later at $75 is ridiculous. It's just not worth the money. Especially with forgetting the appetizer, getting it wrong, and then getting one of the plates wrong as well. It wasn't over the top mouth watering delicious like every review says. I'm pretty sure the reviews that say "best mexican restaurant in town" is because its the only one. We won't be coming back and will be sticking with our places much closer to home with tastier food and bigger portions for half the cost.
Short response don’t eat here. Terrible quality and extremely over priced. Ordered a kid’s quesadilla got no rice or beans and cheese was burnt on quesadilla. Ordered beef fajitas with cactus got chicken with no cactus. Order a pineapple drink when I got there they said they didn’t have it refused to refund me just wanted to give me something else. Had to make 2 trips to get the right foot and the cactus was mostly onion and peppers very little cactus and they chard extra for it. They refused to remake the quesadilla. Oh and I paid 43 for this garbage.
I went to this restaurant many times back a couple of years ago as I live in Venus; I took a friend to lunch there yesterday 07/20/2025; the table was sticky which was my first clue; we ordered unsweet tea & Mexican coke....the tea came sweetened and had to return it; the Mexican coke had set out on the counter (I could see it) and by the time he delivered to the table it was no longer cold enough for a $3.25 coke! If that is any clue how long we had to wait just to get our drinks......At this point we should have left...but we did not. I ordered Chicken Quesadillas and the other plate was 2 Enchiladas. The Quesadillas had almost no melted cheese in them and the CHICKEN that was in them was just awful. I don't even know if it was real chicken or what....but it was awful. I ordered chips and salsa--just awful.....Some sort of homemade chips - the salsa was colored water with very little flavor at all. I was stunned! The last time I ate here with my daughter and kids it was good. NOT ANY MORE! $ cost was $33.00 for the 2 of us and it was Crap! I am not sorry....I am just being honest! Horrible food and very poor service and UNCLEAN sticky eating surfaces! I do not know what all these great reviews are about...but the food here is not good and there is no service.
I'm not sure where all these great reviews came from, but our experience led to "we will NEVER go back". We found nothing good, not the food, hot sauce, service or even getting our orders right. Bought "fresh baked cookies" on our way out and threw them in the trash when we got home.
