As a parent (and former teacher of science in secondary education), I can't speak highly enough of Suffolk New College. My Son has really flourished under the superb quality of tutors. As a student of 'Music Performance' he has experienced some great opportunities to meet people from the industry and help see a pathway into a career in music. The college is well resourced and if you are prepared to make the most of every opportunity a department like this can offer, I would find it harder to imagine a better establishment. Tutors with a passion for their subject and student outcomes is a core ethos. Suffolk New College has much to be proud of.
I spent two years at Suffolk New College on the Music Technology Course. This course is thorough and well designed, benefiting both those who are just getting started as well as those who already have some experience with Music Technology. Additionally the course approaches the subject from different angles, from live engineering to music production, providing the opportunity for students to shape the course to their individual interests. The course gave me the necessary skills and experience to apply for University. I chose to go to Goldsmiths where I am currently studying and loving Music Computing. By the end of the two years, students gain sufficient knowledge of the most up to date industry standard software and techniques. Whilst I picked the route of further education, these skills will also give a great head start in the music industry for those wanting to jump straight into their exciting career. The tutors (such as Craig Shimmon) are experienced professionals who are experts in their field. As well as passionately sharing their vast knowledge, they also wholeheartedly care about each and every student. They will put 110% into your education no matter if you're struggling with the material or soaring ahead. I cannot recommend this course enough. It is hands down the best education in Music Technology that you can get at this level. I made many wonderful and talented friends during my time at Suffolk New College and I hope you do too!
Had an amazing two years at the college. The course was very well planned out and the tutors were very helpful and supporting. Having been at a different a different college for another course this college would be highly recommended to anyone considering a college option. And the football team is a great thing to be a part of for comradery and learning new experiences
Had my hair trim at Suffolk new college on the 25th November. I am very happy with the result. Student who trimmed my hair has done a good job and the tutor was excellent I will use the college again Well done! Please keep up the good work and standard
My son with additional needs moved to SNC 2020 and I can not praise the staff enough. After years of tears and tantrums about going to school, he now goes without any arguments. He recently won a creative writing competition and this would of never happened if it wasn't for staff taking the time and energy to get to know him and understand how to get the best out of him. With the support of the tutors and Learning support staff they were able to get his thoughts and ideas onto paper, encouraging him to produce some amazing work.
Suffolk New college. My son went here. It's a lovely well set out building. It's got arts craft welding mechanics, hairdressing baby care, child care. Everything gave it such a name and it's all new and modern. Highly recommend it if you're 17 or 18-year-old to go to university in Ipswich.
So far my course is going well and I have good teachers which makes the course experience very pleasant. Great standard of teaching and the learning environment is outstanding. Much better than my previous college. The student support facility is also of a high standard.
I have just received my diploma with distinction grades and all thanks to a wonderful team at Suffolk New College in Ipswich, England. As an adult learner i felt anxious to start college, but deep inside i knew i need to take this step if i want to grow. If you are sitting on the fence right now, not sure if this is for you. Do it! Just sign up and the rest will be a lot easier, because there is a bunch of professionals who wants you to succeed, who wants to get the best out of you! This is exactly how i felt! Tutors and the whole support team have been there from day one, not only teaching me academically, but making me feel socially included, part of the family, no matter the age or other differences. I would highly recommend Suffolk New College!
I completed the level 3 Music technology course here. Cannot recommend this course enough! The most enjoyable and rewarding experience that I've had throughout education. The equipment is amazing, industry standard DAW's throughout all of the teaching rooms, an awesome post production suite absolutely kitted out to the max with gear you won't find at most colleges or universities. The course itself is remarkable, everything is a hands on experience, a lot of practical learning - you choose your path, the tutors guide you down it. Lessons were enjoyable, you do what you actually want to do. Every day at college was a day I'd look forward to! The tutors are also fantastic, big shoutout to Eli, Ash, Nigel, and especially Craig! The most friendly, laid back, easy going and welcoming guys I've come across! They also really know their stuff, I wouldn't have been half as good of a producer if it weren't for these guys. They always go that extra mile for you, even though they don't have to. Extremely supportive, your achievement is their priority.
The giant reclining ? is sited on the pavement area outside Suffolk New College. It's listed by The Ipswich Society as a public work of art to make a point to see if visiting Ipswich. However, it's not allotted it's own page on here, (as many other town works of art (even 'Digby the Octopus') are), so I'm posting the photos of it for the college building that it serves to represent. The intended significance of the big ? by the sculptors, Langlands & Bell, was to encourage those who behold it, to ask questions about everything. Due to the use of contrasting stone, one side appears black (Uruguayan granite), the other side white (Portuguese marble). It's a simple but effective design & maybe also a classic example of less equalling more? Ironically & unintentionally, the reclining ? is also the symbol for Alpha Course churches. Something that the local Ipswich group have also noticed & are using photos of the artwork to illustrate their publicity materials...
I had the best time here. I enjoyed the subject that I chose, gained new experiences and was able to make great connections with people who have the same goals and interests as me. The tutors were very professional and were good with helping students when needed. I have gained new knowledge over the period of the course and will be able to apply it in real life.
I have spent three years here at Suffolk New College, and I have enjoyed them. Very polite and friendly teachers, always happy to help the students. The area is quite busy, with University just around the corne. Alexandra park is just behind the college, allowing students to relax, and enjoy a quiet place. The college itself has many great facilities, easily available to students. Two small car parks available for use, with motorbike spaces available. The only problem I had at the college, was that things were very disorganized and often students would be notified last minute.
Teachers were so nice and understanding to me. If I forgot to pay attention to what the teachers were speaking about, they explained it again in a calm manner. They understood my autism and they helped me through my horrible time at farlingaye high school (PTSD Vibe...) and they helped me through it. I felt safe and happy there. There were no criminals that came into college (they taught us if there ever was one XD). I had a rough time on the bus one time because a man who smelled of alcohol threatened me because he thought I flirted with his wife and threatened to harm me, but the teachers helped me through it and I had to take some time off college to get it off my mind since I couldn't consentra when I was all shaken and traumatised because of my autism... I recommend this place if you're a student with a passion for finding a career for the future or if you had a horrible time at a certain school or PTSD. if you have a passion for taking care of animals, I would recommend Suffolk Rural (Otley College is what i remember)
I have mixed feelings about this place, it’s good but bad, I made friends there and good memories! Whereas when it came to uni they bluntly refused to help me as they said I need to wait another 2 years and I didn’t have time so I applied all by myself and got in without any help. So with that I say thank you and improve on helping students get into uni instead of keeping them away from uni
I studied art and design at Suffolk new college for two years and had a varied experience. It really changed me as a person and allowed me to be a lot more confident and sociable. Although, the teaching is very poor and you are made to feel as if the teachers don't have enough time or care enough to help with your work, constantly having to find them and ask for their help to always be told they'll do it at another time. I'm not sure if this applies to all subjects but definitely to the Art course. The teachers are good people but the majority are just not very good at teaching.
Although it's in the centre of Ipswich and there's a lot of "chavy" people the college itself is great. The support I have received is outstanding and the tutors are great. Student support is a great place for any issues you may have and are always willing to just sit and listen if you need someone to talk to. I highly recommend this college. However I very appalled by the attitude and tutoring I received from the Media tutors and I highly recommend you do not take any of the media courses.
My bike has been stolen. Apparently the rangers are supposed to make the environment friendly and safe.
Abysmal organisation skills. Then they have the cheek to blame the students that they put in charge of reception without the proper training. Whilst I was waiting for 40 minutes for my treatment I was fortunate to get to listen to the receptionist (maybe just a cleaner that wasnt busy today, who knows how the headless chicken roulette of who's on reception in this place works) calling a plethora of booked clients to explain that their booking is invalid as, and I am trying to quote word for word here " we only have a receptionist on tuesday and Wednesdays and the students have been a clueless lately as our booking system is down" first off, your booking system has been down for weeks, you should prob get that fixed ay? Secondly, how are you blaming the students for this? Im sure you chalk it up as very very valuable reception experience for them and definitely not a cheap source of labour amidst a struggling economy but when they dont receive any training or guidance, its just a joke. Now my missus called you on monday morning to book me as her client today. What happened to that booking? Are you gonna blame it on your system being down or the incompetence of your staff/the chimpanzee that you think will be fine to intricately and meticulously perform the actions of a receptionist despite the system being down, all because he knows how to pick up the phone? Yes I am an enraged 20 something year old that you can write off as not having a clue as to the intricacies of running an organisation of this scale, if that makes you feel better about not having a clue about it yourself. I will be back to complain officially, fortunatley for you when I went back to reception after being told my booking didn't exist, there was conveniently no one there for the 10 minutes I waited before deciding to leave an impassioned note on your seemingly pointless booking forms. Sincerely yours, Cole Smith
The collage was good at first. Although me and my partner had issue where this person was spitting on her face. I made lots of complaints by emails and confronted him and his parents by Facebook and he wouldn't stop. They suspended me stoped me going to collage for 2 weeks they ruined my saftey and hers. We dont feel safe or okay and mentally we feel horrible in collage. The teachers was very discriminating towards me, Disrespectful and clueless. Very rude and we still haven't gotten enough support and the student was committing crimes in collage. Nothing happened very unhappy.
Had a great tutor here for my two years. The Personal Development stuff is highly unnecessary and my PD tutor is one annoying individual. Second year the college sabotaged our course so almost all of us fail by not repairing a crucial piece of equipment that we require to do our work. Thank you SNC.
