Great little place... Plenty of outside seating to enjoy the sunshine very clean throughout with warm cosy seating areas inside. Love the wooden decor Great place to sit and chill... Dog friendly Richard was very hospitable
Amazing meal here this evening! Great choice on the menu and amazing value! Staff all friendly and helpful! 100% will return!
Came here tonight to watch the football. Staff were great. On the ball and getting drinks when needed. Food was really good as well. Staff grabbed people who were s little rowdy as well sorting them out. Very pleased we came here tonight as we got a last minute table. Ps.... It c'mon home!!
Glazed pork belly was absolutely lovely. Cooked perfectly. Atmosphere was great, lovely people in. Staff were very friendly and helpful! Would highly recommend visiting.
Cosy gastro pub with friendly service. The food was delicious and although they were short staffed the waitress was lovely and we felt very looked after. Also our table had a pretty anniversary card and rose on ready for our arrival. A small touch but took our visit from nice to something special. Thank you for a lovely meal and evening xxx
We LOVED our time at The Red Lion! Jess was amazing - brilliant front of house and so accommodating. We will be back! Thanks Jess :)
If you're ever in Woodbridge and fancy a proper pint and some honest, hearty grub, do yourself a favour and pop into The Red Lion on Thoroughfare. I stopped by recently and I’ve got to say, it’s exactly what a good English pub should be: full of charm, character, and warm hospitality. The place itself is a bit of history, a beautiful old building that still carries that traditional feel with the exposed beams and cozy atmosphere, but without feeling tired or outdated. It’s clean, welcoming, and has clearly been looked after. The menu is spot on, no pretentious nonsense, just good food done well. I went for the mixed grill, and it hit the spot, full of flavour, cooked just right. I saw a couple near me tucking into the plant burger and they looked well impressed, so there’s plenty for everyone, even the veggies. Drinks-wise, they’ve got a solid selection. I stuck with a nice pint of local ale, crisp, cold, and well-pulled. There’s clearly pride taken in the cellar here, which you don’t always get these days. The staff were friendly, attentive without being over the top, just decent people making you feel welcome. It’s also a dog-friendly place, which I love, always good to see four-legged friends being treated to a bowl of water and a few biscuits. And if the weather’s nice, their beer garden is a proper treat. Plenty of space, nicely kept, and a great little suntrap to sit back and enjoy a bite with friends or family. All in all, The Red Lion in Woodbridge is everything I look for in a pub, character, quality food, decent drinks, and a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. It’s the sort of place you leave already thinking about when you can come back
Great pub with a welcoming vibe and solid drinks. The best part is Jess behind the bar — she’s friendly, quick, and makes everyone feel at home.
Lovely dog friendly pub, staff were very friendly and kind, provided a dog bowl of water without us asking, then we're very kind and gave our dog a bowl of steak! We had a delicious lunch time meal deal which was excellent value for money £12 for a meal and drink. Would highly recommend. Great staff, food and atmosphere. Thank you!
Jess was amazing. Her hospitality was great and she brought such a great vibe. Would return just for her! :)
Took my daughter, grandson and elderly mother put for lunch at the Red Lion. We wanted somewhere accessible for my elderly mother with her walking frame. We were offered an ideal table, also near to the disabled toilet for her. The staff were all very helpful and friendly. Very pleasant welcome. We all ended up ordering just the lunchtime sandwiches and wraps, and a child's meal. Very good value at only £12 for lunch and a drink each for the adults. Food is freshly prepared, and good quality. My mother's crispy battered fish sandwich was huge and with chips. The chicken wrap was nice, but could have had a little more chicken in it. The child's meal was very good homemade battered chicken nuggets and chips and peas. Overall a lovely experience for lunch out, made better by exceptional staff.
The Red lion is a great place to eat, drink and be merry. Staff were friendly and chatty, atmosphere was great and the food was delicious. If you are in the area I would definitely recommend a visit.
Staff are always so kind and the restaurant is always warm, comfy to have a chat and meal. Highly recommend if you want a friendly atmosphere to eat and drink in Woodbridge!
Had such a nice time here! Came with a group of friends for a drink and had a lovely bar lady Jess. We then returned that evening because we had such good service and drinks. Also v affordable.
We popped in for a quick bite to eat and have to say how lovely it was. Will definitely be going there again. The atmosphere was lovely, the food came out in good time and it was very good value for money.
Sunday roast was delicious and very good portion size. Staff very friendly and couldn’t do enough. We wish you well at The Red Lion!
Really lovely, highly recommend. Best choice on the menu I've ever seen. Top top, top.
So glad we found this place on our little weekend break, such a great pub, cosy and the food was great, staff were so friendly and then after we finished eating there was an 80s and 90s disco and it was so much fun! Great atmosphere wish it was in my town! Can’t wait to go back!
We only had drinks but loved this pub! Lovely friendly ladies who served us made us so welcome. A total gem
We were delighted with the decor, friendly, very helpful staff.Myself, daughter and son-in-law and two children all thoroughly enjoyed our lunches.Extremely good value and asked for our compliments to be expressed to the chef, clean plates all round!! Thank you very much Red Lion!
Absolutely amazing experience.. Red lion is now better then ever with its new land lady. Food was so fast to come out.. And was so amazing. Especially the fish & chips. We'll definitely start coming back more often now that Mrs Katrina is running the place.
We had such a lovely afternoon at the Red Lion, we even returned in the evening! The staff were so attentive and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Shout out to Jess she was a legend, we will be coming back:)
New management and great new menu. My second visit and very impressed by the overall friendly, welcoming and personalised service throughout the evening. Special mention for Reece who served us, genuinely respectful and professional he made sure we had a memorable evening throughout. Well done!
Absolutely lovely gaff. As my gaze first fell upon this delightful establishment, I knew I was in for a treat. From the lively open mics, to the consistent quizzes, the Red Lion always has some exciting event to offer. Having tried the food here, the desert is an absolute stand out, tasting both fresh and homemade. The salted caramel brownie was enlightening, the sticky toffee pudding hit the spot, the crumble crumbled perfectly as it should. Phenomenal. Whoever made the deserts absolutely deserves a raise.
What a lovely pub! Such a nice, friendly environment with a great atmosphere. Jess was incredibly welcoming to us all and we would LOVE to return when we are back in the area. Thanks again Jess!!
Absolutely fantastic meal and experience. The food was excellent, fresh, well cooked, and full of flavour and the customer service was outstanding from start to finish. Staff were friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome without being overbearing. The atmosphere was relaxed and inviting, and it’s clear a lot of care goes into everything they do. Fast becoming the best pub in Woodbridge, and we’ll definitely be back again soon. Highly recommended.
Our first visit to the Red Lion. Had a very nice meal here this evening. Atmosphere was a bit muted but then it was a Tuesday night five weeks before Christmas. Skye looked after us well, was attentive and friendly, and paid us just the right amount of attention. Food was delicious. We both had a pie and chips. The pastry on the pie was nice and crisp, but you could still cut through it, unlike some pies we’ve had elsewhere! Skin on chips were good and the side of onion rings were very good too. Portion size just about right for us. Desserts were equally good - a doughnut with Baileys and a salted caramel brownie. Both tasty and well presented. Overall a thoroughly enjoyable meal. Well done to the Red Lion.
This morning, whilst driving past the pub, the owner ran out of the carpark and flagged me down, directing me to pull into the carpark and the traffic behind me to reverse to allow me to. Unknown to me, my tyre was completely flat, steaming and I was practically driving on the alloy! Without thinking he said "where is your spare I will change it for you" for this i was so very grateful. Unfortunately due to the car he was unable to do this but was happy for us to leave the car in the carpark and then later assisted my husband when trying to sort it out! It restores your faith in humanity when you meet kind, selfless people, and if this is any reflection on how his wife runs her pub I have nothing but praise! I also met her and she was just lovely as well! If you are looking for a friendly, kind and welcoming place to eat, check this place out! The menu looks amazing and great value for money! I cannot praise and thank them enough, they were my saviours today! Run don't walk...
Our first visit since the pub came under new ownership and really enjoyed it. All food was excellent and portions were generous, really good value too. Staff were very friendly and attentive, lovely pub atmosphere and already looking forward to returning.
Amazing food, first class customer service, reasonably priced and lovely surroundings. A perfect country pub experience. Family run with very friendly staff. Booked again for Mothers Day. HIGHLY recommend the Red Lion Woodbridge for a perfect dining experience.
Great food and great serivce. This experience has convinced my friend if you pay a bit more you usually get better food as she often prefers places like the thraser a chain and she often needs food reheated so far she has no complaints at the Woodbridge Red Lion. All 3 off us have really enjoyed our food. Rees been good attending to our every need regarding service as a waiter.
Really liked the marquee setup they've got outside, so even though it was a breezy day, we were comfortable inside. The staff were nice and friendly. The food was great, we had the beef brisket burger and the Sunday pork roast - both excellent! Only reason to knock off a star was because the quantity of the halloumi starter (the best halloumi fries we've ever had, by the way) felt small for the price. Otherwise, a great Sunday lunch!
Went for lunch & drinks deal that we saw advertised on board outside. Good burger & great chips. Well served.
We had a very nice meal at the Red Lion on a Saturday night. The food was excellent and reasonably priced and the staff, especially the manager, were very friendly despite being one or two people down due to illness, which affected the speed of service. One of our meals was left off the order by the manager, who was very apologetic and didn’t think twice about taking it off the bill. The bar area was very loud all evening but it didn’t ruin our experience. We’d happily eat here again.
Very friendly on first contact, great service, good food, all prepared with a twist and style. Piri piri chicken starter was very good. 1st main fishcake, crisp huge ball with lovely fresh fish and sauce filling, obviously handmade served with salsa and a mixed salad with side of sweet potatoes fries. 2nd main lassagne served with crisp but soft on the bite garlic bread. Little side salad would have been nice. All in all really good meal although the mains were a bit on the pricey side value for money. All said and done would certainly eat hear again just for the quality of food. Thank you.
Well, when I first saw the premises from the road, I was rather dubious about how it would be inside. External appearances are key....looked a tad unkempt. However, found it quite busy inside, and our lunch experience was very positive. The roast meals were excellent, as were the desserts so hats off to the chef! Service very good, and no long waits. Can highly recommend it.
Excellent service from Rees and Jodie who were fab in resolving a couple aspects. Both very profressional and friendly.
Nice pub with great staff and a nice atmosphere. Food looked really good but didn't eat there as I'm gluten and dairy free and they don't seem set up for it. GF and DF not mentioned on the menu and then some confusion trying to find out. Only one GF beer available. No offence to the freindly staff but the effects of gluten on some of us mean no chances taken
This place used to be incredible - decent paced service and delicious food with plenty on the plate. Having visited yesterday, it’s hard to say if we will be back again. Staff were very friendly and attentive, but it took between 1 hour and 1 hour 30 minutes for lunch to arrive. In that time, I saw a table of 6 get half of their meals 10 minutes before the other half. We ordered chicken schnitzel and chips, which was actually very good, but there was no garlic butter or lettuce wedge as described on the menu. This came out when asked. We also ordered a burger which should have come with two patties and sauce but came with one pattie and no sauce. On both meals, the portion of chips was very small, which is disappointing for £14/15 and the burger was tiny. The chicken schnitzel was plentiful though! Several people came in during our stay but walked back out as they were told that a food delivery had not been received, meaning they could only make burgers. It’s a shame that they could not get the burger order right for us, seeing as this was the only item on the menu. We didn’t complain but did mention the wrong food orders and the waiter was very polite, rectifying it with a free drink which we did not ask for or expect. I really wish the new owners the best of luck with this place and hope to see it restored to its former glory.
The Red Lion in Woodbridge is a lesson in knowing your lane. Two-for-£12 cocktails sound like a deal until you’re staring down a Piña Colada and a so-called Passion Spritz that both taste like flat soda water. The bar staff mean well, but it’s clear this isn’t their battlefield. Painful to watch, worse to drink. If you come here, don’t get cute. Forget the cocktails and syrupy mixers order a pint cider, keep it simple, and you’ll walk out a lot happier.
Not bad but room for improvement. Family with two kids went for lunch. When we arrived we got shown to a table and it was cleaned for us. Staff were friendly and helpful when taking our order, they also gave some colouring books and crayons to the kids. Kids mac and cheese was tiny and came with just one small piece of garlic bread. No where near big enough to fill our 8 year old up. Either portion size needs to be bigger or maybe a suggested age on the menu for only very young kids. Luckily I ordered the mixed grill with added scampi (delicious!) so had plenty to share. Burger and sausage and mash were also decent sizes and tasty. Would have liked to be given a serrated knife with the mixed grill as was difficult to cut some of the meat. Also our empty drink glasses were not cleared from the table throughout the whole meal even after ordering more drinks. Deserts were fine although one was forgotten, after we chased it up it came quickly. The mini crumble (very tasty with custard) was indeed mini, about 3 mouthfuls! Luckily the coffee was a good size to make up for it. Bit disappointing with the lack of range of cider options. Atmosphere was nice and friendly on a quiet Thursday afternoon. We’ll give it a second chance.
We went for Sunday lunch. The pub was welcoming and busy. Our food wasn’t as we’d hoped - food was lukewarm, and not especially tasty. We were served by Rees & Jodie who were superb and saved the day and the experience for us - thanks to them! I hope the problems with food were only a blip, as it’s a nice place to go.
Food was great, service was very poor. Had to ask for additional cutlery and napkins on for than one occasion, waited for 30 mins and had to ask for welcome drinks and bread which had been advertised, had to ask twice for some water, prosecco served in half pint glass at the valentines set menu which we'd booked for and only asked if we wanted another drink when they bought dessert out; and based on how long we'd had to wait for everything else we'd have left and been charged before it got to us.
Went for a meal with family and had paid £10 per person for the deposit. Came to settling the bill and was over charged £20 as the deposit wasn't deducted. No issues just refund the money so put my card back into the machine and put my pin in only to find out a few hours later they'd taken another £20 instead of refunding the money. Partner phoned and was told its all fine come in with the receipt and bank card and they'll sort it. Partner arrives only to be told that they're lying and receipt despite saying "sale" on it was actually a refund, quick screenshot showing it was taken out of my bank not put onto it put that argument to rest. Reluctantly they've given the refund however it is in cash as opposed to going back into my bank? Definitely won't be returning. Appalling from start to finish.
We booked a family meal here last night and we were very disappointed. It was very busy and it was obvious the location was understaffed ( about 35mins after arrival to take the food order) .Though despite looking extremely stressed our server tried her absolute best to deal with a multitude of issues with an understanding smile, the only positive I can give the night. Out of 9 covers only 1 was edible! The Sunday roasts were very poor, 1 thin slice of beef about the size of a beer matt, accompanied by a child's portion of cold vegetables. My wife's chicken was dry & cold and the meal was rejected after a 3rd attempt to rectify. The child's portion of mac&cheese was again insufficient ( about the size of an egg) very pepper spiced and refused by the children. To be fair they accepted the meal overall fell well short of acceptable and we weren't billed for the food. Lots of improvement required I'm afraid.
Met here with family for lunch and was very disappointed. The staff were friendly enough but not attentive and we had to ask a couple of times for service. They spent a lot of time behind the bar either chatting or in their phone. I ordered a glass of pinot Grigio which was not chilled when it arrived - clearly the bottle was not stored in a fridge. The food arrived quickly, and some plates were better than others. My Korean burger was very dry and the ‘kimchi’ was basically dry cabbage. My husband’s burger however looked good, as did the chicken and ham pie. The crab cakes also looked dry. Then we had to ask to order some desserts, and our plates were not cleared straightaway when we ordered desserts. The baileys doughnut dessert was awful. Dry cheap mass produced doughnut with the smallest scoop of ice cream and tiny drizzle of cheap chocolate sauce. Still don’t know where the baileys was. The Apple crumble tart looked stodgy and did not come with very much cream at all. I also got trapped in the disabled toilet whilst using the baby changing facilities, due to a faulty latch. I had to bang on the door to get someone to let me out. The staff were apologetic. All in all an expensive lunch which left a lot to be desired. Will not be returning.
Myself and my partner always used to enjoy a meal at this pub. We went today and the food and service was terrible. All we ordred was scampi and a cottage pie originally. We were then told they had run out of cottage pie so I asked for a lasagna instead, to then be told again about 20 minutes later that they had run out of cottage pie and I replied, yes I've re ordered a lasagna. It total we waited nearly an hour for food. Bar maids didn't seem to care about how long it was taking for food to come. The excuse was that it's not the normal chef, hes usally front of house. We were then told our food was being plated and not in a polite way. We heard the bell go, and no one went to get it. Instead the staff continued to have a lovely little chat behind the bar. My lasagna with dressed salad that came out was a baby gem lettuce with mayo and crispy onions slapped on it. My partners scampi was barely warm and the chips were hard. It had clearly been sitting on the side for a while. We left annoyed and hungry. We won't be coming again which is a same as we used to really enjoy a meal in this pub.
Food was mediocre but dessert then was terrible - it was basically burnt cake dough. Burnt black to crust. Really unfortunate as all dishes sounded like good food, if it had been a better cook. Service also wasn't good unfortunately, as the two staff members kept forgetting half of what was ordered, we had to remind them of several dishes we had ordered or were part of the main dishes we were supposed to have but had something missing. It was early in the evening so not particularly busy and apparently the kitchen staff had actually turned up late to work. Would be a nice pub as the interior looks nice and traditional but with food and service being like that, it's really disappointing.
Well, first time I've been here for years, meeting up for a meal with family. We booked a table in advance. We went to the bar first for a drink, the people behind us got served first, twice. When we had our drinks, we asked to be shown to our table, the waiter took us to our table. After a few minutes we had decided what to have, we managed to catch his attention to place our order. There was a long wait, about half hour. When the food came, fish and chips, burger and chips, garlic and herb roasted chicken and chips. The garlic and herb chicken was just cooked chicken, to be honest it looked like a dead cat had been placed on the plate, I don't know how you forget what the recipe for garlic and herb chicken is, there are three main ingredients, mine just had one. What made it worse was it looked so pale, the skin was on but had no colour, wasn't crispy, almost looked poached. I asked the waiter what the problem was, he said he'd mention it to the chef and to try and put it right, bought me out a little pan of garlic and herb butter, wasn't a great fix unfortunately. I wish I had taken a picture but I didn't, I tried not to think what it looked like. After we had eaten ( didn't take me very long, my chicken, which was meant to be half roast, was budgie sized) we asked for the bill, waited and waited, never came. We ended up leaving the table, going into the bar for another round of drinks, the waiter who we asked for the bill had gone on break, so we asked again for the bill. I asked if anything could be taken off the bill and the staff said she wasn't authorised but could get the manager from upstairs. I gave up as we couldn't wait. We left. I don't like leaving a bad review, I want to see this business flourish but the staff maybe need more training, and the chef certainly needs more training
Food was all what you could have baught from any cheep supermarket , amount of veg on my partners plate was more like what someone left on there plate, roast potatoes (3halfs) were cheap frozen ones 😡all in all worst place we have eaten. Shame because Red lion always served freshly made local meals 😕
