This is a fantastic authentic Italian restaurant. The quality of the food is great, it is what you’d get at a high end restaurant in Italy. I recommend the chicken parm and you can’t go wrong with any of the pastas!

Have been coming here since I was a kid and the food never disappoints. Now as an adult, there wine select is amazing, and the biscotti with the check is the best part.

Always the best food! It’s always jam packed in there but they keep it organized. The service could be better, they gave us (and charged us) for sparkling water when we asked for tap but not a biggie!

really good classic italian food. the calamari was perfectly cooked and crispy, and comes with plenty of fresh tomato sauce. the lasagna special was so hearty and cheesy, but kind of fell apart. the gnocchi special was also very good and was cooked nicely.

Old school Italian restaurant, classic spot on the upper east side. This spot is always busy for a reason, the food is excellent and consistent and the service is impeccable. You can sit at the bar, but there are very few seats, you need a reservation even on a quiet day…

Your basic old school New York Italian restaurant. Food was great, especially the lasagna (a special). Not as many traditional choices as I would have thought. Service was good, but a bit too eager to snatch plates and never brought more bread, even though we asked.

This might be my favorite restaurant in NYC. I’ve been here 3 times in the past month and each visit is better than the last. I love starting off with a salad or the beef carpaccio or the mussels. Then for mains, the best things to order are the steak and the PEA PASTA (I forgot what it’s called). Any pasta you get will be delicious—lasagna (Sundays only), penne ala vodka, or the vongole. Don’t miss out on their dessert! Our faves were the chocolate lava cake and the cheesecake 🤍 We loved pairing our meal with a glass of Cabarnet or even their espresso martini’s! A special shout out as well to Manny, our waiter every time we visited. He was one of the biggest reasons we keep coming back! Thank you for the great service and food!

My family and I have been patrons for years and the food is constantly delicious. Fresh pasta, mouth watering sauces. I’m also obsessed with their melt in your mouth fish dishes. It’s loud, it’s cozy, it’s a classic NYC Italian restaurant!

Everything was perfect. Most delicious Italian food I’ve had in a long time. The service was stellar, pleasant banter and although it was a packed house they never rushed us. Had a delicious chilled cosmo, crispy warm soft bread, mozzarella that melted in my mouth and the special cream rigatoni with peas and ham. My friend loved the Chicken Parm. Hope to be back soon. Outside seating too but inside is so fun.

This is a bias but accurate review because this is our regular spot. Elio's has the best Italian food in the city. It feels real, it feels upscale, its crowd its older, its family run. Get the duck prosciutto. The minestrone is the best in town. The fried zucchini is better than french fries. You will see celebrities and politicians. It's a great NYC staple.

Wow. Phenomenal. First time dining there but it felt like we were family. A fantastic atmosphere with great service and a beautiful setting. And the food was exceptional!!! I had the ravioli which was one of the best I’ve ever had, the sauce was delicious and they weren’t over filled, perfect balance. My boyfriend had a chicken dish with rosemary garlic and white wine sauce which stole the show. We’ve never had anything like it. AMAZING. Great dinner spot, great drinks and exceptional service. Make a reservation to ensure you get a seat as the place was full shortly after opening at 5pm for obvious reasons. DEFINITELY coming back here.

Had my birthday dinner at Elio’s. When making our reservation for dinner, we informed the staff that we have a stroller. They advised us it gets busy at 7pm so 6pm works best. (Loved that they told us before hand) We were welcomed by really friendly staff members and was seated by the back in a corner where we could have our stroller beside us. We ordered fried calamari and the server was proactive in advising that we should go with half portion so that we had space for dessert (sure enough, half portion was just right for 2pax). We had spaghetti special, ravioli and molten choc cake (think we should have gone with tiramisu😩). Food was great and service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. Note: this is the first restaurant where we do not have to ask for water refill. They were quick to top up your water. Really enjoyed our visit and shoutout to the server (whom I can’t recall his name) who served us😊 Definitely a place to revisit.

Great Italian food at this local hang out. Cindy Adams from the New York post was dining in the restaurant when I was eating. She was sitting right next to me at the table near the bar. She was super nice and seem to enjoy the food there. The owner was very nice and was walking around making sure everyone was happy with everything. The food was the star of the show with the social crab being perfectly cooked and in season perfect. The chicken that my friends ordered was also amazing and it was all white meat with perfect seasoning and sauce. I normally don’t eat chicken with this chicken was perfectly done. Also came with amazing sausage which also I don’t eat but was also perfectly done. Also order a side of angel hair pasta with sauce and that was also amazing. For appetizer we had beans and shrimp which was also great. Basically nothing to not like in this restaurant. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to have the best Italian food on the reside

Elio’s has been around for decades. It’s a classic UES home styled Italian restaurant. The food is good quality and the vibe skews more adult. I had the chicken parmigiana which was great and an aperol spritz. The menu is large with lots of selection. It gets a bit noisy with how echoey the room is.

I got food poisoning. Hair in my food. I sat alone at the bar- as it was the only table available. Service was kind, but felt like every question I asked was an inconvience- even ordering. The pasta was great. Zucchini fries tasted fishy. Hair in my bread baked into it. Also $80 for a 1/2 order of pasta, zucchini fries and a single glass of wine is steep

Only giving two stars as the restaurant had a fabulous old school nyc Italian vibe. Everyone dressed very nicely. I have lived in UES for 10 years and have been to many Italian hot spots. This was not one of them. Food was meh nothing to write home about. Then when we’re charged for our bill we noticed we were over charged by $80 more than what was listed on the hand written bill. No apology given once we pointed out this issue they just voided and recharged my card. Could have easily offered a free drink or dessert to make up for poor service.

The food was good but do not leave your umbrella at the front. I had a good meal but losing your belongings at the end ruined the mood for the entire night for me. This restaurant's system for checking your belongings is lackluster, and the waiter was not sympathetic at all, instead choosing to joke that he liked to call the restaurant's umbrella bin the "black hole of umbrellas." Overall the ambiance was also pretty crowded and loud. Yes I am just salty about losing my nice umbrella. I would give the food a 4/5 and would echo others in saying that the service was a 1/5. For food I would recommend the broccolini, soft shell crab, and chicken parm.

Incredibly pretentious staff. The service was unorganized, and we had to place our orders over and over with different waiters. We had most of our entrees left over and asked to get it boxed and they threw them out. They waited until we paid the bill to tell us, and their remedy was a small slice of tiramisu. Additionally, they checked everyone’s coats upon arrival, however even after asking they did not take ours. When sitting down, the restaurant was so packed that staff would accidentally hit our heads with things they were carrying without apologizing. Average food, overpriced, horrible service, go literally anywhere else- not worth it. Dirty martini was good though.

Don’t go and try and sit at the bar. Bartender was one of the rudest humans I’ve ever encountered in my life. Hopes if he just doesn’t look at you that you won’t ask for something. It was honestly very weird.

With one exception being the veal piccata, which was quite good, the other items were mediocre at best (brussels sprouts and mussels — both with bland dressing/sauce, and the chicken paillard was among the worst entrees I ever had — tasteless and looked like poached chicken — after three bites I mentioned to the waiter who essentially said “this is how we do it.” He eventually asked if I wanted to order something else though it was obvious that he didn’t want me to and unclear whether we would be charged for an additional order. Seems people only go for the buzzy atmosphere and hopes of seeing a celebrity. An unpleasant experience. Much better quality food at many other UES Italian spots.

Diner-level wine.. for 25$ a glass! Chicken dishes full of bones for $57! It's just a snotty rip-off. If you want quality try Bottega on 2nd and 70th or plenty of other restaurants a block away.

I wish I could leave this a higher review but the staff treated me and my family horribly. My father-in-law, who was visiting from out of state for the night, has severe skin cancer on top of his head and recently had invasive surgery to take out the skin cancer. He showed up to the restaurant with a luxury Driver’s cap on because his head could not be exposed to the air after the surgery. The waiters asked him to remove his hat after we sat down, to which he responded explaining his health condition. They were extremely rude and did not care and insisted he still take his hat off. You could tell he was obviously very embarrassed to even mention that he just had treatment but they didn’t care and they made him take his hat off or leave the restaurant. It ruined the whole dinner because my 75 year-old father-in-law was very embarrassed about the experience. I wanted to leave, but we had already sat down. It totally soured our evening and I will be sure to tell my friends about how we were treated. I’d expect so much more from a restaurant that many consider an UES institution.

The food sucked, over priced and over salty. The staff never came and asked how the food was if we needed more drinks, nothing. It’s filled with tourist so disappointing. Everything is so over priced!! Glass of wine $25/30 and cocktails $40 on my bill I don’t mind paying for a good drink(s) but these weren’t along with good prices being different than provided online. Overall if you’re a real New Yorker or looking for good Italian food in general stay away!!

The food was solid, but the experience was ruined by their lack of transparency. We were shocked to find out we were charged $30 per glass of prosecco, with no mention of the price on any menu. When we asked twice to see a wine list for by-the-glass options, they refused to provide one. Our four glasses totaled a shocking $120, which was more than any Prosecco bottle (and some of the champagne) on their list. We felt completely misled, and it left a bad taste in our mouths. We live in the neighborhood, were excited to try it, and honestly will never go back or recommend to anyone. There are so many truly delightful Italian options in the neighborhood — eat at any one of them!
