Red Wagon BBQ is a family-run gem near Homestead Heritage, known for its friendly service and delicious BBQ. The brisket, jalapeño grits, and homemade sides like beans and banana pudding are highly praised. It's worth the drive, but arrive early as they sometimes run out of food.

My husband and I are big fans of the Red Wagon BBQ! The food is very delicious! We have tried the All American cheese burger, 2 meat plate, Mac-n-cheese, the Haystack, and Wagyu beef ribs at different times. Tonight we did the Barbecue Bowl and Loaded Baked Potato. Both were delicious! The owner is always smiling and most pleasant!!
Had brisket, mac n cheese and fried jalapeño peppers. It was so good, I came back the next day and had the burger. I'm a burger guy and have had some good hamburgers. This exceeded my expectations by miles, and I'll say it's in my top 3 hamburgers.
So i brought my wife to waco for her Birthday. So we wentto Terry Blacks..."best bbq right"...WRONG had the dog with us and i got mest to go so we ate in the parking lot. Sausage was meh, Briskit was not tender...was dry...best thing was the fat.... spent $70....sorry WASTED $70....GOT back to our cabin and saw a sign for Red Wagon BBQ ....we really wanted some good BBQ and had our fingers crossed. so ordered and took it out to the car and ...WOW...Id eat that briskit all day everyday if i could Turkey breat i recommend too ..we got cole slaw, Mac-N-Cheese to LIVE FOR. And Thank you Lord....a place that knows how to make REAL HONEST TO GOODNESS HOME MADE "NANNER PUDDIN"....AND TASTED like home made cookies too in it. Guys keep it up....You're doin it right. Great BBq and not near as expensive Good BBQ takes allot of work ...Great BBQ is almost impossible ...these guys are doing the Impossible. If youre staying in downtown Waco, dont fall for the Name, may be a famous name, But if you want Real BBQ and Real GREAT BBQ...take a 20 min drive and you wont waste your time. By the way, true story, our dog wouldnt eat Terry Blacks.... Devoured Red Wagon right along with us.
A delightful, off the beaten path, small family owned BBQ restaurant. I got the the brisket tacos..amazing! My husband got the BBQ bowl. He really liked it. And then some delicious banana pudding to finish off a great lunch. The owner and the young lady who helped us were very friendly. We will definitely be back when we make back to Waco again.
We catered my father's memorial service in Austin with Red Wagon BBQ. It was OUTSTANDING!! Multiple guests told me, "This is the best BBQ I've ever had - even better than Franklin's" (a legendary BBQ in Austin). Highly recommended.
Hands down, the best barbecue I’ve ever had. Their smoked turkey is incredible. Their brisket…wow. Michael, the owner, is a great guy. Go check them out and don’t forget to try the banana pudding also.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Best barbecue in Texas! The meat is perfectly smoked and flavorful, and the sides are all homemade and absolutely delicious. You can tell this is a family-owned and operated spot because of the care and pride that goes into every plate. Highly recommend!
Excellent brisket and turkey. A little pricey but the quality is excellent and so is the service. Will be back and it is so close to us an added bonus for us
My now-fiancé and I visited from Australia in March 2025, and from the moment we walked in, we were welcomed like old friends. We had the pleasure of meeting the owner and his lovely wife, and the whole experience felt less like dining out and more like being invited into someone’s home kitchen. The food and service were nothing short of extraordinary, and in a trip where we visited 10 BBQ joints in 14 days, this one was a true standout. We’re already planning another trip from Australia next year — and this spot will absolutely be on our must-return list.
We had the barbecue bowl and smoke turkey sandwich. The turkey was AMAZING. All of it was really. The turkey was perfectly moist. Also side of beans were some of the best beans I’ve had.
We went to Homestead Heritage first on a Saturday, and was told that their restaurant was only taking people that had reservations. They told us about a BBQ joint about a mile and half from there. People say that it's the best BBQ in Waco, I say it's the best BBQ anywhere. I had the brisket tacos, and they were phenomenal. Perfect flavors and texture. The mac n cheese was also delicious. The owner couldn't have been more helpful and polite. I highly recommend this place. You won't regret it. Three of us ate there for about $40.00. I have paid way more for not as good. Bypass all other restaurants and give this a try.
We came in for dinner and it was amazing. Great food, friendly service, and clean. Glad we tried it and if you haven't, please do!!!
Really chill bbq experience had low hopes tbh since its in gholson 💀 but the counted guy was cool and recommended the jalapeño cheese grits made this trucker happy
my son and I went this is our first time there (I saw a friend talk about it) for lunch today, it was really good. I'm glad we went (we got ours to go). My son and I were very much impressed! Everyone was very nice and patient. They are very reasonably priced!
Loved the brisket, turkey, and wagu sausage! I can't begin to brag on the coleslaw with cilantro and the beans were amazing! The potato salad was super fresh and the fried okra was delightful! Would come back!
Low key comfy place. friendly people. great food! brisket sandwich was moist and tasty-sliced and prepared in front of you. our sides were tangy and tasty also. good. fair pricing. we drove 8 miles for it, worth the drive. will go back.
The friendly staff welcomes you in with a smile and the incredible aroma of smoked meat. Michael was friendly and explained all the menu options to us. The food was incredible ! I had the brisket and turkey. Can’t wait to come back!
Great bbq and the beans were amazing! Got one of the beef ribs and definitely was worth it. The sausage was great and the brisket was so juicy. A great spot to try if you are in the area!
This place is delicious!! I got the Brisket Bowl and it was absolutely amazing! Brisket, sausage, beans, Fritos, and cheese…a perfect combination. The homemade ranch and banana pudding were to die for!! The stuff was super friendly and the restaurant was very clean. The close when the food runs out so better go for lunch or an early dinner, it’s worth it.
BEST BBQ IN WACO - WORTH THE DRIVE. (There is plenty of indoor seating.) Red Wagon is just a little past Homestead Heritage and has everything a great BBQ joint should have. The owner, Michael, is excited to greet his customers after spending all day making tender and flavor- infused meats. The sides are on-point. It’s obvious everything is scratch made since each side is like its own flavor bomb. The mac and cheese is made with real cheese. The beans are by far the best pinto beans I’ve had in years. The coleslaw is crisp with hints of cilantro and without globs of mayo. The coleslaw is made with dill and pairs well with the salty, savory meats. And, the banana pudding is made with real whipped cream. The hospitality is so good that you’ll not want to leave!
Came out to Red Wagon BBQ to try it out and process why someone having a wonderful time "just dating" would not speak to me for a week. Actually, less of that. This food was too good! I had the BBQ bowl which was the best way to sample their best offerings. Brisket was wonderful. Sausage was amazing. Sauce was simultaneously sweet and vinegary which I like. Banana pudding was delightful. "Not too sweet" which he said and I saw in lots of reviews. I only had a couple of bites and I only ate about half the BBQ bowl. I also enjoyed the Jarritos Pineapple soda. It's decorated for Christmas and is totally adorable. There a room off to the right. Looks like it needs a party. Has a spot for a band. It was busy for a Saturday to my eyes. Usually a BBQ place is practically empty. At least five cars of people came in before I even walked in. The man I'm assuming is the owner was super sweet and very welcoming. This is a wonderful place. I'll definitely be back.
Delicious brisket, okra, cole slaw and grits! These Colorado girls are happy! Dont forget to buy the fudge. It's amazing!
Amazing brisket and service! Make sure you try the jalapeño grits, there’s nothing like them! But totally underrated is the Sweet&Smoky Burger, hands down the best burger I’ve ever had, and I’m not exaggerating!!!
Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant while visiting the homestead heritage. Food was incredible, some of the best brisket I’ve ever had (which is saying a lot considering I’m not a huge BBQ fan). The service was so wonderful, truly some of the kindest people who own and operate this place. Definitely pay it a visit if you’re ever in the Waco area! (Pictured is the loaded baked potato, and my friends got the haystack and loaded Mac and also loved their food!)
Best BBQ in Waco. Brisket is top notch. Ribs, chicken and sausage the best around. Prices are very good. Love this place.
My friends and I were visiting from out of town, we found Red Wagon close by and decided to give it a shot. The staff were very friendly and the BBQ was delicious! The fried jalapeños were my favorite 😋 Definitely worth the visit!
We were undecided on what to eat because the choices were so good! The hamburger was amazing and the bun ridiculously good! Friendly people, great experience and will be back.
This barbecue was amazing. The brisket was great and the wagyu beef rib was one of the best ribs, pork or beef, that I've ever had. The coleslaw also had cilantro and garlic in it which was extremely unique and delicious. Highly, highly recommend this place. I'll be coming back a bunch.
Stopped in and saw they had a burger on the menu. Since we already knew this place to have AMAZING bbq, we tried the spicy and sweet burger. It was absolutely amazing! What a neat little gem of a place this is! We will be regulars!

So delicious. I’m not an overly sweet bbq type of girl, so this bbq was perfect. We will definitely come back when we come back to Waco. The brisket tacos and fried jalapeños (and ranch) were so so good. Service was great. All people there were giving and friendly!

Me and my family came during a time we most restaurants were closed, and they served us with a lot of kindness and intentionality. To follow the wonderful customer service the food was also delightful and I loved how they had barbecue sauce ready for us to use at Will :) Not to mention, this is probably one of the best banana puddings I’ve ever had. It doesn’t taste like fake banana bananas, and the cream is nice and thick with a touch of cinnamon.
Took a detour from the Austin to Dallas drive to check this place out, super friendly service and GREAT food!! The wagyu beef ribs were unreal and the banana pudding was the best I’ve ever had. I wish the portion size for the meat would’ve been a little bigger but the portion size of the sides was more than enough.
What a hidden little gem. You love barbecue? You will love this place. The smoked brisket is tender. juicy and full of flavor. The chicken was tender and moist. The sides are great. The portions are plenty .The prices are good .Great value for the money. You get a lot. The service was friendly. You got to try it !!
This was out first visit to Red Wagon BBQ just a few miles from Waco, and what a great surprise. A throwback to a family run restaurant not seen much these days. The folks providing service could not have been kinder or more helpful. The brisket was juicy and perfectly seasoned, and the sides more generous and flavorful than any other BBQ around. If you are looking for a delicious meal in a peaceful setting, you will find it here!
I ordered the one meat plate with brisket, beans, and fried okra. All of it was incredible. The bark on the brisket wasn't overpowering, the beans were seasoned perfectly, and the okra was made to order and was delicious. This place is definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.
A hidden gem on 933. It is worth the drive. We order 2 3 meat plates so we could try a little bit of everything. They were out of ribs (it was 5pm). We had turkey, chicken, wagu links and chopped brisket. Fried okra, Cole slaw, potato salad, beans. It came with all the trimmings. BETTER THAN TERRY BLACKS!!!! You can't even compare the two. This place is in a league of their own. The wagu beef link, nothing like it in this world!!!! Everything was above-above average!!! All of the sides were perfect. The employees are nice. You have to go, we will be back.

First time in Waco and I’m happy that we discovered this local BBQ restaurant right next to the Homestead Market! Red Wagon BBQ shares the same parking lot with the Homestead Market and the Quilt Shop, so parking is easy and the location is great. The BBQ food truck is pretty cute and they also have plenty of outdoor (shaded) seatings right next to their food trucks. I love the fact that they make so much efforts on decorating their dining space, and I recommend taking a cute pic of/with your BBQ right in front of the RW welcome wall. A very Texan vibe sure 🤠 Our plan was to order a brisket + sausage combo but the sausage was sold out by the time we ordered, so the server offered us all briskets. The owners are all very friendly and sweet. They’re very yummy, juicy and tender. Will definitely coming back to try their sausage 😋

Brisket was good, juicy ,good smoke flavor just needs more flavor then salt and pepper on the binder. That's just me though. $18 for 1/2 lbs of sliced pickles, onions, and 2 slices of homemade bread
