If you drive past this place then you need to get off the highway and make a u-turn. This place is the best! Go in there and have them fill up a whole box full of kolaches and pastries and all the goodies. You're going to eat on it for like 3 days. There should be a law that you have to stop at this place every time you drive down 35 between Dallas and Waco.
Thank you Slovacek’s! Yes, the food is good, the place is clean, the shop is fun, BUT the changing table is AMAZING! I have a 10 month old baby and it is probably the best changing table I’ve ever experienced. Y’all even have a diaper genie next to it. 1000/10 Thank you!
This is a maximalist stop for sure! We stopped for lunch - regular sized portions, for a good fair price. Everyone is raving about the kolaches - my husband loved them. To me they were dry, I was a bit sad, maybe the day old kolaches are better for others like me that like a soft bread kolache. Plenty of things to look at and enjoy (or buy). Bathrooms are tidy. Over all we did enjoy our stop here.
I have to admit that I was a little confused when we pulled up looking for kolaches. So many tchokchkes! We had a wander amidst the wacky and wonderful outdoor selection. Metal pig statue that opens into a grill! We then moved inside on the hunt for those kolaches. Tons of gift items, insulated cups, and nutcrackers to see before we found the counter in the back. Huge variety. The staff was so nice and helpful! Those gently warmed pillows of love were worth the work! Tasty!!
One of my favorite places in the world. So many great choices for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and snacks. My particular favorites are the kolaches, the breakfast burritos, the sandwiches, and the cookies. This place also has a large and clean restroom and plenty of gas pumps.
A must stop kind of place. Bought the sausages from the deli for the grill on 4th of July, awesome!! Boughts snacks, sodas, and used the restroom on our drive to visit family for the holidays today. I just love going here, it's always busy, but worth getting out of the car for!!
Really cool place to visit. It kind of like Bucees meets small town Texas. Good food, cool items, and of course Kolaches of all sorts. People are nice as your greated entering, and you could get lost with all their collectibles and souvenirs. If you haven't been id recommend you make some time and check it out. Also they have a rest stop for your dog, how much better does it get?
To heck with the Beaver, this place is awesome for travelers!!! Yummy food, super meat market and plenty of gifts to browse through. There’s plenty of room for those of us hauling RVs. I saved the best for last: cute dog park. So many of us travel with our pets so this is super appreciated!!
I really dig this joint. Yes the sausage sammy on their unique bread is a must, and there is lots of focus on the nifty bakery, but I thought I’d share some pics of their top notch meat market which I think sometimes gets overlooked with all the offerings in the expanded shop. Don’t pass this place up if u can avoid it peeps.
This is one of the best rest stops I've ever been to. There is a huge selection of bread and kolaches and cinnamon rolls, there's something for everyone. Not to mention, they are all well priced. Everyone working here was super nice and helpful. Be sure to make this a stop on your next road trip!!
I am from Snook where the original Slovacek's is, so I usually make this my stop when heading out this direction. A huge selection of kolaches, sausage rolls and other pastries. Meat market, beer cooler. Clean restrooms, souvenir items, decor for the yard, Czech items, floral, and more. It's like a mini Buc-ee's. Check out the Christmas store next door. Nice dog park here. Lots of Exxon pumps for passenger cars and larger ones for RVs and trucks (Gas and Diesel). Large parking areas.
We stopped in on our way back from San Antonio, we had seen this place on the Texas bucket list. Great prices on gas so we filled up. Staff was friendly and bathrooms were clean. We ate a sliced brisket sandwich, it was so good I forgot to take pictures. We bought some souvenirs and some kolachies and the orange pound cake as well as some cheese and beef sticks. Everything was amazing! We also stopped at the Christmas store and bought a few things. This place didn't disappoint we will be back! If your in the area we highly recommend!
The store is a fun place to visit. They have tons of clever clothes and knickknacks. The bathrooms are well maintained. The staff is helpful and friendly. The kolaches are good. They have every flavor you could possibly want. Their sausage is fantastic. It's worth the trip for that. Love to get their bbq sandwiches and their stuff potatoes. You could spend hours there snacking and shopping. The dog park is nice if you are traveling with your pooches.
Their sausage is REALLY GOOD, it burst with flavour in your mouth. Cheese kolaches is soft and taste really good ( ask them to warm it up for you before you consume it ), so is the blueberry cream cheese kolaches . Their Cinnamon Roll is huge , soft and not too sweet which is my taste . The fudge is too sweet for my taste . The coffee is really affordable. I’ve came here 3 times in 10 days , Yes ! It’s that good 👍🏻
An incredibly fun to stop at spot when on the road. Delicious kolaches, oh and melt in your mouth desserts! Yummy snacks And so many Texas gifts! We noticed a really fun dog park also on the side. This is a great stop to fuel up, stretch your legs and do a little shopping. Customer service was excellent. Everyone was super nice. Definitely a must stop :)
I have always wanted to stop by Slovacek's when we travel back and forth from San Antonio to DFW. We finally made it. The reason it took so long to stop by is that they close at 9 pm. The Christmas store is only open 10-6, so we did not get to see that area. While it is still a gas station, it is also a great place to stop for souvenirs and food. They have a separate building called the Christmas shop, a lot of outdoor decor, a nice dog park, and almost anything you could want inside. It was not particularly busy when we went. They have a nice small meat market area in the back where you can purchase a variety of sausage and other items. Then there is the fudge, the vast amount of baked goods, and the bbq. We bought a couple of kolaches which were very good. The pastry was soft, and the sausage was tasty. We ate dinner there at the BBQ place. The brisket is some of the best I've ever had. It melts in your mouth and has good flavor. The ribs were fall off the bone and were also very good. The turkey was just ok. The sides looked good, but the casserole was not good at all even though it's a top seller. The rest of the sides were luke warm. The service in general was nothing special, workers did their job, they were not rude, but they didn't seem like they wanted to be there. Overall, I'm glad we stopped to experience Slovacek's. I would recommend everyone stop by at least once to say you have been and maybe pick up a souvenir and a baked good.
Slovacek’s is very popular. I knew it would be busy for a Saturday lunch time but didn’t realize this was the place to be. Expect to come early and wait in line for the food. The staff was very patient and helpful. I will say the kolaches are delicious so I didn’t mind the wait. I got the jalapeño popper, sausage with cheese and jalapeño and turkey & swiss. It’s a good size kolache so I should’ve just order 2. The jalapeño popper was my favorite. There is seating available to eat inside but good luck finding a seat if it’s busy. I loved the Christmas chachkis there. They had a separate building for Christmas decor as well. You will definitely will not be bored here lol We will need to come back to stock up on their sausage lol
Heading to San Antonio from Dallas I made a pit stop for a restroom break and breakfast kolache. I either stop here or Czech Stop across the highway. They are both known for a wide range of kolaches and other pastries. Slovacek’s is much bigger, newer, and cleaner. It has all kinds of foods you can purchase. It’s like a smaller version of Buc-ee’s but doesn’t have that Super Wal-Mart feel that Buc-ee’s has. I grabbed a breakfast sausage with cheese and egg kolache to go. Service was very good and the folks behind the counter were very patient with some guests who couldn’t decide from all the options they have. I will say I do still prefer the breakfast kolache from across the road better. They are both good, but I prefer the dough at Czech Stop. Everything else is better at Slovacek’s. I’m sure I will make many more stops on my travels back and forth between Dallas and SA.
Great kolaches. Plenty of fruit / sweet kolaches - we got apricot, strawberry, peach and they were all great. Sadly there are no savory kolaches without meat. They also sell a bunch of other things - meats, coffees, souvenirs etc. Location - exit 353 on I35. If you are driving from Dallas to Austin, it’s immediately after you exit. South west corner of I 35 and intersection.
My partner bought two jalapeño kolaches after waiting in line for 15 minutes and wasn’t even able to eat them. The casing on the sausage was so thick he couldn’t bite through it! Absolute waste of money
Ordered a Frito pie w meat from the Kissing Pig. I've been hearing about it for months from a co worker. Ordered and headed out down the road. Was looking for some brisket to realize it didn't have any . It was pretty good though and satisfied my hunger but not my craving. I did pay 13.99 though it was missing the meat. I shall return to satisfy the craving on another day.
