We celebrated my Mom's 80th birthday here and rented out a room for the special occasion. We requested that the bartender create 2 special cocktails for the event, and both were delicious! The service was top-notch, and food was amazing! You have to try the mushroom souffle! I am so grateful to the staff for giving my Mom a wonderful birthday celebration and look forward to many more meals there.
One of the best Italian restaurants in Boston! The food, wine, desserts, service were all exquisite!
2025: We went to il Capriccio for my husband's 70th birthday. We hadn't been there since they changed locations. There are a couple main dining rooms, which are very homey, and a couple small dining rooms for small groups. The food was exceptional as always. The service top notch. They change menus monthly, with some items staying on perpetually. (The porcini dish was taken off the menu a couple times over the years, and customers complained so much that they put it back on - never to be removed again.) My husband had the tuna tartar for his appetizer and the carbonara (with a poached egg on top) as a main. Our friend had the porcini souffle for the appetizer and the duck for her entre. I had the porcini souffle and the halibut. All dishes were excellent. It is always a 5-star experience. 2018: We don't go to il Capriccio very often simply because it is a fairly expensive restaurant. It is always a huge treat when we go. We look forward to it all week. The service is excellent. The wine selection extensive. The staff wine recommendations are always good to fall back on if the huge wine list is too daunting. The food is always perfect. Some of our favorites: porcini souffle (they've taken it off the menu a couple times but always have to put it back on because people complain so much); tuna tartar with warm homemade potato chips; gravlax with white anchovies; carbonara with a poached egg on top; the lamb and duck are always great; the chicken schinitzel; and a chocolate budino molten cake for desert. Five stars - always.
I had the pleasure of dining at IL Capriccio in Waltham, MA for our annual dinner, and it was an outstanding experience. Everything from the service to the food was impeccable. The highlight of the evening was definitely the soufflé di porcini; it was a culinary masterpiece! I highly recommend IL Capriccio for a delightful dining experience.
Always loved Il Capriccio's food but never liked their ambiance/decor of previous location. Now with the new space down the street, it's a much better experience, and their food was just delicious and beautifully plated. Sommelier Jan is always so informative and gracious!
Food was great, service was fantastic! Restaurant layout was good and design was very cute! Parking was available behind the place. Everything was clean and well maintained, would definitely go back!
A different twist to Italian cuisine. We never imagined having Bokchoy in an Italian dish :P The drinks are nice. The food tasted great. Highly recommend booking in advance since the place is on the smaller side and tends to fill up really quickly. Ample parking available on the back side of the restaurant. Dressy causal dressing recommended.
Food was good. Service was excellent. Fastest I’ve had food come out at a higher-end restaurant like this, and the place was far from empty. Server was great and once I mentioned an allergy, he was very attentive and catching all the places the allergy may apply in what I ordered. I had the gnocchi and it was good but a bit too soft for my taste. Dessert was great.
Had a pvt function room with a door for privacy for a party of 16. While nice to have, it got a bit stuffy & warm in the room, but the service & food were excellent! Some apps & desserts are large enough to share, so ask your server for advice. Feb-2024: Lucky us, another biz dinner at this warm & inviting Italian classic of a restaurant that deserves its accolades! Party of 12 in a separate room, we all enjoyed delicious food delivered with excellent service! Highly recommend this restaurant over & over again! 👏
We had a private room for 9 guests. It was very quiet, even though there was b-day party next room with a few young kids. It was for a business dinner. Food was really good, fresh pasta, I had the lobster/corn risotto. Great wine list. The waitress was very attentive, great service
A perfect bistro-like contemporary setting. My duck pappardelle was a bit interesting but the salad with figs hit the spot, and my friend said her lasagna bolognaise was wonderful. I ate more of the baked Alaska than I'd like to admit 😅
Amazing experience! The staff are welcoming, attentive, and made my anniversary special. They also gave wonderf recommendations for food and the meal was delicious! Highly recommend going here for special occasions.
.ore than just your typical red sauce haven. Extremely creative and tasty dishes go beyond the Italian cliches. Veal scalapini was layers of mushrooms, veal, Spinach and other ingredients.
If you are looking for an ever changing inspired Italian menu, with light and tasty food, you will enjoy Il Capriccio. Very few places around Boston match this level of quality. Wine list is inspired. And for those nights, very nice Virgin cocktails.
Excellent high end meal in Waltham. The mushroom souffle is a signature dish with great sauce. The Tuscan kale ceasar salad is likely the best kale salad I have ever had. The chicken schnitzel main is a bomb of flavor. Strong, attentive service from the staff.
We arrived greeted by a nice open and clean space. They drinks were good with goof Italian wines. The calamari portion was small and not that great. The Halibut was fresh, but not as favorable and cost $42. Service was prompt, but a sloppy being not as polished as a Boston restaurant. The dessert was good, but canollis are missing. Overall, staff need better training. Sauce and Food need to come up one notch. There are much better local places for the price such as The Chateau, Frattelis and Lucia's in Winchester.
We came here for our anniversary. It was an unplanned venue but they had availability at the last minute. We used to come to this restaurant at the previous location on Main and Prospect St. My memories of this restaurant was quite fond. Unfortunately, I cannot say my experience at the new location was good. The atmosphere and decor are great. The parking is fairly convenient; just wished that you can enter from the parking lot instead going to the front. The least impressive part of this restaurant is the food and value. The food portions are pretty small for the price. The food is just “ok”. There are many restaurants in a “lower” tier that are better. I would try other places before considering here, such as Fiorella’s in Newton or any place in North End. The service was a bit slow (they apparently forgot us). Once they knew we existed, the service was more prompt.
Keep in mind that other people in my party seemed to like what they got. The veal, one of the most expensive things on the menu had a strange taste. I love stinky cheese like Gorgonzola but perhaps this kind was not a good pairing. Next time go with the Bianco Gorgonzola DOP. the Apps were good including the mushroom thing and the tuna tar tar. Desert was ok.
We are frequent diners and last night NYE service was rushed and below par. Although the food was good we were rushed in and out on NYE in under an hour. Hoping this is a fluke but very disappointed
This place is very disappointing to someone who is from Italy like myself. I went there the other night with my girlfriend, hoping to get a good Italian male like they have advertised. It was all about that. I will say that the facilities is clean and very nice. The people were nice and polite. The service was decent, but our server had the personality of a field mouse and did not smile once. I have to say the Bolognese was excellent. But my girlfriend had the real scallopini and it tasted like it wasn’t fresh and it had been sitting around in the freezer for a while. We also ordered Appetizer. This was just an appetizer that was on their website that pictured Sabrosada, prosciutto, and cured sausage. It was anything, but that. You had cheap capicola and imported ham, and the rest of the meats did not meet fair quality I thought. For what they charge you for you could go find a better meal elsewhere twice. Not to mention, the menu is lame. They have more seafood dishes than anything. They should just label themselves as a Mediterranean restaurant or a seafood restaurant. Because this isn’t even close to what a real Italian restaurant is. I think these people need to take a trip to Italy and find out what real cuisine in Italy is like. I posted a review on open table and they responded with given my girlfriend a $100 gift certificate and stated that pictures on the Internet, he has no control of. Really? You have no control of what is on your website? That’s Ludacris! And a lie! Quite honestly you never get a second chance to make a first impression. I wouldn’t go back to this restaurant if you paid me and gave me a free meal. I honestly wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anybody or any of my friends. There are so Many more better restaurants on that strip than this one. Don’t waste your time! This place is trying to be a knock off of the Capriccio’s in Providence. Well, I have some news for them, you’re not even close! You guys aren’t even in the ballpark! Like I said, don’t waste your time or money!
