I may be a little biased being that I used to live walking distance to toms but holy cow what an amazing spot. It's the gold standard of hole in the wall restaurants. This place NEEDS more traction. It's ran by an older couple and they are amazing cooks. By far the BEST kimchee fried rice I've had in a long time, and their "Toms roll" is what I crave more than I'd like to admit. If you need some take out, I implore you to give them a try. I wish I could give more stars!!!
A great new find right up the street from me. The sushi here is good and fresh, at a great price point. They even gave us yummy tea while we waited. Will definitely be back.
First time visiting Tom's Sushi House. Owners are straight to business. Bulgogi bibimbap is what I had and it was done by the book. Rice was steamed very well. The vegetables were cooked very well. Spices and use of oils were done perfectly. Will be back
From the outside, it looks like a shack, but don't fall for it. GREAT food! HUGE portions. The gyoza are amazing. Sushis were so good! The service was quick and the food delicious. I recommend.
What a fantastic little place! The owners are so friendly and clearly take pride in their work. The sushi rolls are generous portions with heaps of fresh fish. I've tried the other sushi places in the area and this one is by far the best given the price point. I can't go too long before I'm craving this place!
Don't let the appearance fool you. This food is seriously good, reasonably priced, and the couple that works there are incredibly polite. They're quick to offer free cold water or hot tea, even if you aren't staying. The Santa Monica Roll is one of my favorite sushi rolls ever!
Hands down the most delicious sushi I've had in Los Angeles, and it's cheap too. The lady working the counter is very polite. Outside seating is sparse, as they only have three little tables, but that's good enough. You can enjoy outdoor weather and it won't be noisy either.
Toms sushi house never disappoints! I have tried all the bento boxes as well as a few rolls and obsessed! It is a small hut preparing the food, they do have outdoor seating. They do accept cash and credit/debit cards. My husband now knows this is my happy place! They are always consistent with quantity and quality. Please visit Tom's!!
Got this for my boyfriend and I for dinner. It was so amazing you must try!! We got the spicy tuna on crispy rice, crunch rolls and garlic edamame. we were surprised with how good it was!! and for the prices, the quantity was amazing. i will be coming back again! thank you toms sushi house!
Good quality and quantity of food. I get the bento box which is much more robust than bento box's at elsewhere. The sushi is mainly fish with a small amount of rice around the outside and very fresh. It is a very good value for the quantity of food. I would just note that the seating is outside and by a busy road which is not bad as along as you are expecting it. Parking is relatively easy.
Love hole in the wall places. Not only is the food off da hook, their presentation is amazing and the couple making the food makes it with passion and love. This is the kind of places I like supporting. They work long and hard for their money and they are passionate about what they do. I see them having a top notch restaurant in the near future. The owners are so kind and loving. This has become one of my stops in sm.
A lil sushi shack with rolls to go? Be impressed. Got a few good rolls and was impressed with all. The sashimi was fresh, the tempura perfectly breaded, the California roll even had something special about it. Stop by, get some rolls, enjoy yourself. **I'd like to thank the girl I went out with once from Hinge for this recommendation. Most memorable part of the date.**
Best sushi at affordable price. Owners are generous and very kind. Sushi is fresh, and they use allot of fish. Though the area is not the best they still do very well in their location. I recommend ordering over the phone for pickup so you don't have to wait outside :) Very good sushi
The food here was delicious and as I pulled into the parking lot to order I was greeted by a man wearing a predator mask twerking while removing his clothes. Made for an interesting wait for the food to say the least. The food here is worth the hassle and if you haven't tried it I say change that as soon as possible
A tiny little corner shop. I mean really tiny. About the size of one of those key maker shops you see in the far corner of a parking lot. BUT, there's no doubt about it. They have really good sushi here. If you want the food minus the sit down restaurant, this place is the best.
This place is so incredible - can’t emphasize this enough! This afternoon we happened upon Tom’s before heading to the beach - we got the Sashimi sampler and a spicy tuna roll and we can’t stop talking about them - so fresh, so well prepared, fast, easy, CHEAP, and so delicious. We are making a sushi stop at Tom’s a new tradition!!
Really quick and great tasting sushi rolls. Don’t let the appearance of this joint run you away. These are some of the best sushi rolls for the price and short time taken to have them melting in your mouth.
Absolutely delicious good, with great prices. Order was completed in 20 minutes, and I was able to walk and pick up. Thank you so much!
I LOVE the fact that they kept the wasabi and ginger separate from the sushi since I don’t like those and sometimes forget to ask them to hold that. 1st place I’ve seen do this and it made me so happy. Wish the cold roll was a bit colder, and I’m not sure if my cooked roll has half that may be undercooked, but it’s salmon and sushi so it should be fine. I wish they had included the eel sauce on the roll though cause I didn’t have enough on the side. The seating outside could be so much better but poor design and execution. If they remodeled the outdoor seating area and served alcohol this place could really get big!
We love Tom’s!!! The gyoza is my favorite thing on the menu, but everything we’ve had from there has been a 10/10. We pickup dinner from here at least once a week and recommend it to anyone who asks for a sushi recommendation. Love love love!
Not sure how I'd never come here after living in LA for so long! It's an unassuming little shop on Santa Monica but the rolls are fantastic! I feel like calling ahead for orders is the way to go since when I ordered in person the first time it took ~40 min to make (likely because they had so many orders!) - Tom's (5/5): The sashimi on top of the rolls is super fresh, and it comes with a nice salad on top! - Jack (5/5): I could eat this all day and still not be sick of it - and I'm usually not a spicy tuna lover! - Crunchy Dragon (4.5/5): It's great if you like Dragon rolls!
I love this place: Food is amazing, really tasty and fresh rolls. Food is also top notch, Highly recommend Tom's Sushi House!!
**HIDDEN GEM** This place is special. Don’t let the corner of Santa Monica Blvd fool you, Tom is an incredible chef and their sushi speaks for itself. You can’t go wrong with anything here, my personal favorite is the spicy yellowtail roll. Don’t sleep on Tom’s Sushi. Pictured: - big spider roll - spicy yellowtail roll - baked spicy albacore
If I could give Tom's Sushi House 10 stars I would! My friend and I stumbled upon this little gem after walking out of the bar across the street. It was perfect for a nighttime snack! Don't be fooled by its humble appearance, this is a legit sushi restaurant. We had the Seaweed Salad, Hot Night Roll, and an Eel Cucumber Roll. Everything was absolutely delicious. This is definitely a mom and pop owned business because pop was making the food and mom brought it out to us! Both of them were the sweetest, nicest people. I will most certainly be coming back again!
This is my favorite sushi place in Santa Monica. Even it is very small place, the food amount is never small. It is so good, and I don't want to write this review in google because I want to keep this restaurant only for myself. Because I live near here, I often deliver food when I feel so tired of cooking. After I met Toms sushi, I save my time because I never concerned about diner menu! Yay! They offer not only Japanese Fresh yummy sushi, also have Korean fusion style food. Strongly recommend Seared Salmon sushi & Caliente Roll & BBQ Bento & Kimchi Fried rice. Thank you for all the food Tom!
Rainbow roll and albacore cut roll are so good! Trying for my first time- I ordered ponzu but I should’ve trusted the process bc the mustard sauce is fireeee
Loved the sushi. I am going to bring my friends here. I recommend this to everyone. great quality sushi. Great bang for your buck. Even the portions are huge. Food coma.
This is THE hidden gem in West LA. It looks like a place you would never want to get sushi out of, but if you pass it by, you will miss out. Their rolls are huge and priced well, and their nigiri pieces are very fresh. The menu is small, but it has everything you need if you want to get a few pieces of nigiri and a roll. There's also some hot dishes, but I've not tried them yet.
Wow! I had no idea this place is so good. I ate at bunch of restaurants on Sawtelle Area and this restaurant in a run down strip mall was the best meal I had all week. I loved the spicy hamachi. My son had the chicken teriyaki bowl and spicy salmon roll. :chef’s kiss: Keep in mind there is no place to eat outside. I was staying at found Santa Monica by sonder which is literally across the street so I ate there
so good but be warned, the rolls are HUGE! the big spider (left) was easily over a pound. wish i just ordered one!!
Came here because a casual sushi place with fresh ingredient sounds really nice since I’m here to escape the winter. They don’t accept Amex which I found out the hard way but they accept everything else. The two HANDROLLS (they’re very generous with portions) were spicy tuna and Eel and avocado. INCREDIBLE. The ginger and wasabi was spectacular as well. G A hard yes from me and I’ll be coming here with each visit back to the area.
Convenient Easy parking for free Quick to make food Nice and hot!! Excellent quality Salmon isn't wild by default Open on Xmas day thank u guys we really needed that food on that day
Fresh fish, generous portions, and super friendly owners. Highly recommend the sashimi salad (Korean hwaedup-bop meaning sashimi covered rice). Make sure to ask for extra sauce.

This place was definitely a place I was a little sketched out to stop by, but the reviews convinced me otherwise. I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW GOOD IT WAS! I have lived in Santa Monica for 2 years now and this was my first time - some of the best food I have eaten since living in LA. Very fresh fish and unique flavor profiles. I got the Alaskan spicy roll and it was one of the best sushi rolls I’ve ever had! 10/10 recommend!!! The gyoza was also phenomenal - very flavors and the sauce was awesome! I will definitely be ONLY going here for sushi moving forward!
This place is truly the best! The salmon roll with cream cheese and the salmon mango roll are absolutely perfect. The fish is fresh and never has that fishy taste. I had it over the weekend, and I’ve been craving it ever since, only to find out they’re closed on Tuesdays. Oh no! Anyway it’s a flavor I’ll be thinking about all week!!!!
It’s a tiny little shack that offers take-out only. They don’t have much overhead, but they do have very tasty and fresh sushi at a discount. The average wait time for your order 10 minutes.
I went to Tom’s for the first time and the food was amazing! I got the beef bulgogi bowl and edamame and I was not disappointed. The service was great too.

Followed these guys on the great food truck and watched them win! So when my motorcycle honeymoon with my husband neared their establishment, we had to get a bite. WELL WORTH THE STOP!!!! The sausage was amazing and full of flavor. The best part of all was getting to eat two different fried rice ball combinations. So tasty!!!
I ordered delivery from them using Yelp. The prices on the Yelp delivery option differ from the prices on their menu. For example, the Philadelphia roll is $9.50 on their menu, while I paid $10.99 for it. I ordered the Philly roll, salmon roll, and fried California roll. Yelp charged me with tax, tip, delivery, AND service fees. I ended up paying $41 for only three rolls. Pretty pricey! With that being said, the sushi was delicious. This is why I'm giving them 4 out of 5 even though I paid a ridiculous price for only three rolls. Everything was fresh and tasted great. Next time I'll drive to the restaurant, stay and eat there instead of ordering delivery.
Good food. Call to place food order so you can pick up quick. Sometimes phone is busy. Have to keep calling. Or use Uber Postmates, Grub hub...
Great place for a quick lunch and fresh cuts of fish. They offer a variety of sushi rolls but we opted for the salad which was just enough to share between two people. At around $15, it was a pretty reasonable price. The taste was straightforward and satisfying.

The food has no seasoning and tho it may be of taste to some, it was not to us. Maybe we should not have expected the quality of a sushi place. However, the portions are big. Also, too much sesame seeds.
During the lockdown I ordered at the window and was the only person there. This place used to be run by a lovely family; now there's a rather unfriendly guy who went out of his way to be rude. I sensed something wasn't right while waiting for my food and later found a sharp object in it, what looked like bone. I wasn't sure what to think. Sharp things never end up in the food I cook for myself! Another bad thing was he handed me my drink in a can and when I asked for a paper cup: "No Cup!!"
Had an eel roll, it was barely edible because there were so many BONES?? If that wasn't bad enough, I had food poisoning afterwards. Only gave 2 stars because my roomates seemed to enjoy theirs.
There are better options in the area. The sushi was very very average (and I really don’t have high standards), but then again, I don’t know what I expecting from a street taco style sushi stall. The guy, I’m assuming THE Tom, was painfully rude, which sure made the fish taste extra fishy. My advice: avoid. Much better options near buy for better value.

I came yesterday ( Thursday June 17th ) , I work around. And the owner ( the cook ) shout at me and to his cashier ( I think his wife ) because I ask my order with no salad. Disrespect me , and yell at me I never got yield like that. I went there few times before and the person at register is always friendly But the guy behind got very mad and look like he really don’t like someone asking for anything. I don’t mind if they refuse to change my order but don’t talk to anyone like that , specially regular customers that lives close by. I usually tell people to go there but that experience was very bad. Anyways!
I really wanted to like this place but it was the worst sushi I ever had! I ordered over 60 dollars worth of sushi. All of the sushi had old rice and tasted terrible! I ordered and was told 25 minute wait but it was more like 40 minute wait. The crispy rice cracker was soggy. I had to remove the spicy tuna and had to crisp it myself twice on the toaster oven. On top of that I had the worst upset stomach for like 3 days. I recommend the sushi at Ugly Roll on palms. No thank you!
Ordered first day "spicy caterpillar roll" as per website. So second day I ordered it again but got the eel caterpillar instead. Thought I made a mistake! Third day, thought you know let me get the same as the first day, and ordered 4 spicy caterpillar rolls. Drove home 30 min got there and same eel rolls as day before. Called them, got hung up on, drove back and returned, wanted what I ordered on day one, and he refused to make it. Told me I was wrong although I showed him the picture on his website, 2 different websites in fact! This guy makes good rolls but horrible person in general. Not sure how he's in business!! It is a whole in the wall and I'm sure they work hard but honestly I'll go somewhere else. And we order for our business as well. Never again!

I had the sashimi salad rice bowl. There was barely any fish and the little that there was it was not fresh/cold. It had more salad and seaweed than anything.
