Really excellent place for a drink and some delicious pub food. Found it on Open Table and the Google reviews were spot on. Excellent location and great for the whole family. Huge play area outside and a 5-a-side grassy area too. Food was delicious, service good...overall a real find.

Great food, very fast service, a beautiful location, plus a climbing flame for the kids with a slide.

The Cricketers hosted our wedding this weekend and were absolutely amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure we had a perfect day, all the staff were so attentive and helpful. The food was incredible and all the guests left empty plates. The Pavilion restaurant room is beautiful and looks fantastic in all our wedding photos

We recently celebrated the festive season here and I can't praise the experience enough! The service was exceptional, with attentive staff who really made us feel welcome. We had a few vegan and gluten-free diners, and they handled our dietary requests perfectly. The festive menu was diverse and everything we ordered was delicious. Overall, a fantastic night out that I can't wait to repeat!

Had a lovely time with Duncan and Steve, beer was very yummy. Toby’s service was so impeccable that he still leaves a smile on my face today; looking forward to his return. Good lineup of beers, cruzcampo is my favourite beer. The garden in epic, overall very good pub. Lovely stuff 🙏

I visited during Bonfire Night for the fireworks, and even though it was raining, the event was still thoroughly enjoyable. The place is very decent, spacious, and well-organised. The staff were absolutely lovely and made the experience even better. A really nice place to enjoy the night — I’d happily visit again.

I came across The Cricketers by chance on a motorcycle trip yesterday (Sunday). The service was excellent, and the food even better. I sat inside, admiring the cricket themed decoration. I had the Zigmac burger with added bacon, followed by ice cream and a Flake. I have already recommended it to friends, and will be back for a second innings ! Very well done indeed to the team.

Completey bowled over, a hit for six, with no boundaries. Words cannot express the gratitude and appreciation for the fayre provided by this outstanding establishment. Without doubt the best pizza I have ever tasted and feedback from her indoors confirmed the ribs as equally delicious. Megan your professionalism and engagement was equally impressive, infact some might say you have clearly REACHED! The Kings Ransom. This establishment should be proud to have you as their nightwatchman Overs too you!!!!

Having returned to this Pavilion for the Second Test, it was refreshing to see Megan once more entering the Session as Opening Bat ably assisted by Cerys who could be observed satisfying the locals with her skilful Run-rate between the tables. Their amazing performance ensured they piled on the positive scoring without any signs of the revered Golden Duck. As they headed for the Break for Tea it was clear that these two intrepid team players were clearly relishing their Innings by providing an excellent showing as we had previously witnessed during the first Test. The Roast Beefy Botham arrived with a sumptous Yorker or what the locals may refer to as the delicious All-rounder. Similarly,Joe Root Vegetables provided a delicious accompaniment due to the non-availability of an Alan Lamb. The Second Innings duly arrived in the shape of lemon and caramel sponges, a course not to be passed Bye, simply sumptous was the considered opinion from both Umpires and the course Bowled my Maiden Over. The Cricketers Arms Team are representative of a talented selection of individuals whose performances on Match Days continue to woo the crowds. I cant wait to attend the Third Test as they undoubtedly have the Edge on their opponents. HOWZAT! and thats me out !!

FOR MORE, GO LISTEN TO OUR PODCAST - PUBTROTTERS PUBCAST WE ALWAYS GIVE 5s AS ALL PUBS ARE DIFFERENT AND GREAT CONTEXT There is a partner and daughter and dog for a late lunch on a weekday. ATMOSPHERE Friday PM was really chilled and nice, roaring fire, great autumn afternoon SERVICE Superb, very kind, patient, and welcoming. STYLE Front is classic pub, back is like mini wedding venue. They have pub at front, which is great, very cricket themed (no surprises), then what looks to be new barn space at the back, which is very airy and bright. Also outdoor and kids play area. TOILET It's very sleek and clean, and it is a nice addition to the new elements i imagine from the old pub parts. PRICE Not bad at all, food very reasonably price, cant remember ilexact sums. FOOD & DRINK SUPERB non-alcoholic range. I was driving and was very excited to see 5 different non alco beers, as well as cider! Alcoholic selection was great. Partner had a lovely malbec. Food was incredible. However, we had to order a new dish as the pasta ragu had had 0 taste. I'm not sure if a vital ingredient was missed in the sauce or what. But they were very accommodating and the other dishes were lovely.

Second time that I've been here & it didn't dissapoint it's got a really nice decor and feel the food area is in a regenerated barn located behind the pub itself but it's all connected so it doesnt feel too like you are eating in the middle of the pub with all the locals its got a cricket theme running throughout which is cool (loved the coat hooks on an old cricket bat) and an open kitchin with a huge stone pizza oven. I can imagine in the summer it would be lovely as the barn has double doors all down one side which open onto a field with further outdoor seating. The young girl who served us was polite and eager to oblige all our requests and we had quite a few (being a party of 9) but she accommodated them all. The food was superb and real value for money to start o shared a pulled pork flat bread from the specials which was a decent sized portion even between two of us it tasted fantastic for main the pizza I had (the Googley)tasted delicious freshly baked in the pizza oven. Everyone elses food also looked really good a couple that stood out for me was the tempura prawns and the chorizo and pork sausage roll both looked amazing. The starters are offered like a tapas style(but not Spanish dishes) buy a few plates and share which I really like the idea of. If I had to be picky the only thing was that when we arrived skylight windows were open and one of the doors to the side of the pub which was creating a draft through our table but we ask for tithe skylights to be shut and they stoped what they were doing and doneit imedialtly. Highlight even more how good the service was. Overall a fantastic visit really look forward to going back over the summer.

Fantastic pub. Don't normally go for pizza, but they have a giant pizza oven (painted like a cricket ball) and 2-4-1 on Tuesdays. Food is good, staff are lovely, and even though it's been extended out the back for a function room, it retains a fair amount of old country pub charm.

The Cricketers is a beautiful pub that ticks all the boxes for a perfect day out. The interiors are stunning, with a blend of rustic charm and modern elegance that creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The attention to detail in the decor makes it a truly beautiful space to relax in with great cricket decorations. The pub is easily located and had a great play area in the garden, which adds to its appeal, especially with the expansive outdoor space they offer. Whether you're looking to enjoy a sunny afternoon with friends or a peaceful evening under the stars, the outdoor area is just perfect. The service is impeccable, with Alex and Jemima standing out as exceptional members of the team. Their friendly and attentive nature, combined with their professionalism, makes the dining experience even more enjoyable. And then there's the food—simply outstanding! The menu is diverse but not large which makes it easier to decide, catering to a variety of tastes, and each dish is prepared with care and quality ingredients. Whether you're there for a quick bite or a full meal, The Cricketers ensures a culinary experience that will have you coming back for more. Overall, The Cricketers is a gem of a pub, offering a wonderful ambiance, excellent service, and fantastic food. Highly recommended! And will be definitely come back.

Great pizzas, they even do a delicious gluten free one. They have a great deal on a Tuesday 2 for 1 pizza 🍕 😋 Super friendly staff. Lots of great cricket memorabilia on display.🏏 Can't wait to go there again.

Beautiful food and great service. It was very noisy due to lots of children crying and screaming but not the restaurants fault. Beautiful grounds and outside spaces to sit eat and drink

Great food. The pizzas were amazing. Quite a noisy environment as it was a busy night. But over all a great place for dinner.

Great wood fired pizzas that always come out excellent, and with top quality ingredients. I find some of the other food not as good but still good quality pub food. Lovely and warm inside as it gets cold and you're welcome to take along your canine friends. Great family spot with events usually going on.

Absolutely fantastic place to eat and drink, and the kids have loads of space to run off some energy!! Play area, too. The food is fantastic!! I would highly recommend it!!

Great setting and a really great 'nice' family restaurant where you can take the children, feel comfortable and still get good food. Not the best pizza you'll ever eat but fair from the worst.

S

Lovely, friendly staff and a really relaxed Sunday morning atmosphere. It’s dog-friendly too, which is always a bonus, and a great spot to chill out over breakfast. The breakfast itself was nice and well done, but fairly standard, the usual avocado and eggs you’ll find in many places. The space has character, so it would be great to see something a little more unusual or creative on the menu to match the vibe. Overall, a pleasant place to spend a slow morning, with a lovely team and a welcoming feel.

C

I've been once before on a weekday lunchtime and it was very quiet, with slow service. Today (Saturday) was much better, with more atmosphere and several waitstaff being more attentive. Food was good. Portions could have been a bit bigger.

D
Derek Williams

A classic country pub with a comparatively recent large "hall" extension to the rear of the original roadside building. A good basic menu with a speciality towards authentic stone baked pizza cooked within and authentic stone pizza oven. A large car park and children's play area near outside seating and dining area. Very busy at peak times and the noise in the "pavillion" dining room can be very loud.

C
Clare Rudland

Went for pizza Tuesday - 2 for 1. Excellent pizzas. Lovely airy restaurant just a bit loud as pizza Tuesday is obviously quite popular with families too.

This would have been 5 stars except for the fact that the kitchen served fish cakes made with haddock that had gone well well into the rotting stage. Service did very well and didn't charge and gave a free drink. But aside from that it was an excellent experience. Expansive playground for the padawans.

What can I say. It had all the hallmarks of being a nice afternoon out with friends and our families, but it wasnt to be. I had been here before and it was lovely but not his day. The actual pub is nice and the location is sound, just off the beaten track. Great surroundings. Kids play area which is good. It was very noisy not just kids around general noise but every noisy. Food was mediocre which was annoying as we had pizza before and it was great. Pizzas are what the cricketers is known for. The sun was out, they had a charity event with music and stalls. We all went to our table and the waitress was nice, she took our orders and off she went. Some time later our drinks arrived, as you can imagine, beer, soft drinks etc. Then we were visited by the wasps, wasps everywhere. The kids all 6 of them weren't happy, the wasps were buzzing around and one decided to take his own life by diving head first in my cider. Im not a great lover of wasps best of times. The food eventually came out and looked rushed, one of our groups food had been forgotten and the wasps were around, did I mention the wasps before. The chicken burger looked sad, the pizzas weren't up to their usual standards either. Maybe its a one off as it was great before but our experience wasnt great today. Will I go back, maybe if the wasps situation was sorted. You might be thinking its the country side and there will be wasps and I would agree, but when they are 4/1 on people it maybe an issue.

Great place, lovely food, but you get treated like an 18 year old student. ‘We have to serve you in plastic glasses’ really cheap flimsy ones by the way. It’s utter nonsense they just can’t be bothered to wash up if it gets the slightest bit busy. AVOID

A lovely pub and place to eat, the food was nice but I’ve had mixed experiences there. Booked for Christmas once and they didn’t realise it was a Christmas booking so we had to have the regular menu, this was very disappointing and not at all why we were there. Another time I booked on a Sunday only to find out they had stopped doing roast dinners for the summer. This was the first time I’d been so had no idea. I have, however had great woodfired pizzas from here, which is what they are known for.

Nice place. Very busy. Good food. Reason for 3 stars. Easter egg hunt you guys opened the outdoor bar. Did not rinse the cleaner out of the pipes properly. I did not enjoy the headache and throwing up. This is despite only having few sips.

Lovely venue good atmosphere Starter good but ruined with some horrible spicy asain coleslaw. Please stop adding thuis to your dishes it is vile! The fact everyone in our party left this, should tell you it's not popular. Lobster was really good but they were completly unequipped with utensils to eat Lobster with. Slight oversight there! Service was ok bit has to chase wine, extra glasses ect. Staff training needed i.e would be nice if staff offered the info on what the 'catch if the day' was. Hate the fact that a service charge is automatically added to you bill. Big bug bear for me. Happy to tip if service is good but should be my decision not automatically added.

Went for a Sunday meal my brother and 2 sisters and niece, was sat by the bar, it was very busy with families with children trying to to get past with pushchairs. Food was ok ish Ice cream desert was served in a metal pudding tin ( don’t know if they had run out of bowls ) If you have ever tried eating from metal with a metal spoon it’s not nice especially ice cream. Took ages for plates to be taken we had to go and ask , Think they need to Up they’re service or train staff better

The pub it self is looks fantastic. The staff were friendly and professional. The food however, was quite disappointing. My pizza was good qaulity, the starters were at best ok, the chicken, bacon and avocado salad on the other hand let the whole thing down. The bacon lardons were so salty and cheap, the chicken resembled something from a £3 meal deal or something served up at weatherspoons and at £16 for a posh salad I would expect much higher quality.. we walked away feeling underwhelmed from our experience and my wallet felt much lighter than it should of for the qaulity of food we received..

We were really impressed with the setting; the room itself is beautiful and is always a joy to visit. However, the food and overall experience didn’t live up to the standards we’ve come to expect from an Anglian Country Inns pub. We were disappointed that Sunday roasts weren’t available. While we understand it’s not ideal in 30°C heat, it was only 22°C and overcast, so a roast would have been appreciated. The sea bass dish was underwhelming: it came with quartered boiled potatoes and peas, topped with a basic salsa. The overall presentation and flavour were dry, bland, and uninspired – not what you’d expect for £25. The lamb curry (£18.50) was similarly average. The poppadom was soggy, the meat was tough and clearly a cheap cut, though the sauce itself was fine. On a more positive note, the pizzas were excellent – both were really enjoyable and well-made. It was also a shame that no one checked in to see how our meals were. That small gesture can make a big difference. Overall, this experience fell short of the high standards typically set by ACI at this and their other venues. We hope this was just an off day.

Would have given it 0 if I could. Having spent hundreds of thousands at the Anglian Country Inn pubs over the years as a family we planned a special birthday. Phoned up and booked a table way in advance explained the special event, the team agreed to make it a special night. Phoned up again before the day to check the table was still okay. We turned up to find there was a wedding, our table in the restaurant was given up for that. Our table had now been moved to the pub (was never mentioned to us) where it was so rammed we could not even sit down. We had to leave and the special night way ruined. Very poor and disappointing experience. They definitely just lost loyal customers. Such a shame and not what you expect from a ACI pub.

A
Alex Crooks

We usually love the Cricketers but the food has recently gone down hill. We went today for a 40th birthday meal and we were not impressed at all. We ordered 2 pizzas with chicken and both had scraps of a chicken thigh on them. When we questioned it, we were told it used to be processed chicken but is now chicken thigh and we had meat just off the bone so it was brown and stringy. Both pizzas were left and we still had a £260 bill at the end of it! The other meals were also not to the standard we would expect so half of the food was left too. The prices should reflect the poorer quality and the menus should show when the meat is processed. We used to go to the Cricketers for every birthday meal but we will now have to go elsewhere. Such a shame.
