Opiniones de The Woods Brooklyn
Great DJ!! I’m only here on Wednesday nights. Ladies night. Way WAY better than Henrietta Hudson. Music is SUPERB. The mix of R&B, hip-hop, reggae is amazing. Dance your troubles away.
Loved this place❤🥂. Spacious than most Brooklyn neighborhood bars. Great music. Decore. Vibes and Energy. Can't wait to go back again for the food, which I missed getting there later in evening. Drinks were on Point.
Most underrated bar food around. It's not healthy, but if you're in a bar looking to eat food, you're not in a healthy mood anyway. Great dance room and music, beers on tap are a delight.
Spontaneously came out here Saturday night with my cousin and her bf and the bartender Erica was very attentive and amazing. The drinks were mixed just right. The music was good too, a mix of everything. It was a great night
Wednesday Nights are ladies night!!! 🌈 such a good vibe and to be honest what makes it better is the staff. TRACY IS THE BEST BARTENDER EVER! He is quick with his drinks, he works well under pressure and he genuinely loves working. Also the Gabriel is my favorite too! He always has my back.
The bartenders are very fun (christian and Tracy are a great duo)! They have a full bar and food in the back courtyard area. There are themed nights of the week with a DJ set. Bathrooms are dark and can get messy throughout the night (but who doesn't?); I highly suggest taking your phone to the bathroom for lighting. Easy walk to/from domino park
Went here on a Friday night around midnight, the dance floor was busy but not so packed that it was uncomfortable, it was just about nice enough to be outside in the back area, and the food area was moving quickly. I loved this bar and will be going back. It seems like it would be a great time especially in the Spring/Fall when they can capitalize on their outdoor space. I love that they serve food at their own fast food place, great selection - though I went out late enough to not try it. Also the DJs played fun music, things you wanted to dance to, not just the newest songs but some older ones as well! I would definitely suggest a visit.
Wednesdays is great it's lesbian night and they play a lot of different kinds of music plus the drinks aren't over priced. It's all good with this bar tbh it's a good nightcap/place to dance and chill.
Really cute spot, definitely more casual than upscale, but definitely a great find! After 10 there's a $7 cover charge on Saturdays, (don't know about other days) but the drinks are SO CHEAP that that cover really doesn't hurt you. Indoor bar, dance floor, big outdoor space with a second bar, and what they call a parked taco truck, with options that include a lot more than just tacos, but common tacos 🤗❤ definitely will be going back, just no heels or fancy outfits this time.
Will definitely come back! Such a DIVERSE crowd on Wednesdays. I love it! The DJs and their music is FIRE! Not a lot of variety for non hard liquor drinks. The space is kind of small and it can get really crowded so if that bothers you, don't come here. There's a backyard restaurant which is really cool too. There were a lot of attractive people! Felt like I was in the L word show, lol. Had fun and would recommend it to my LGBTQIA+ community and allies. Wednesday nights are fire!
Cocktails were on tap. I went to lesbian night on Wednesday thankfully before the line wrapped around the corner. Super busy! Has a pretty outdoor area in the back with a bar there too. Bigger than I thought it’d be! Bathroom seemed a bit of a mess tho and the line for that was super long.
First time being in a lesbian club with my people, and it was great! Very strange that people don’t typically dance though, I was trying to figure out if this is a generational thing or an American thing. Didn’t stop me from having a good dance though!
I had a great time really fun play different types of music every other night. I feel looking for a great nightlife, but not too crazy than this is the place. they also have a cute restaurant in the back that sells good Mexican food. also, I didn’t have to pay for coverage to get in.
I LOVE that the woods has food and u can sit down and eat it and in the other room dance and in the outdoor area smoke and socialize. Love that you guys have queer nights. Would love to see more vegan + local + sustainability sources options on the menu! :)) ❤️
I’ve only been on Wednesday but the bartenders are speedy and friendly. Usually have great DJ’s and the outside space is soooo nice. I’ve never gotten food (usually hit up the deli down the block lol) but it always looks and smells really good! Can’t beat their beer and a shot special!
The Woods is an interesting and lively bar that caters to a variety of tastes and preferences. With ample dance space, you can let loose and enjoy the music, making it an ideal spot for a night out with friends. The true gem of this venue, however, is the outdoor seating area that features a taco bar in the back. The tacos are the main cuisine served here, but you'll also find other delicious Mexican dishes to savor. To complement your meal, there's another bar in the back, ensuring that your food is accompanied by your favorite drinks. What sets The Woods apart is its ability to cater to different moods and preferences. Whether you want to dance the night away or relax in the outdoor area while enjoying a bite to eat or sipping on a drink or two, this place has something for everyone. I would highly recommend The Woods for anyone looking for a versatile and vibrant night out. With its combination of lively dance space, outdoor seating, and delicious food, it's sure to become one of your go-to spots for a memorable evening.
I love your new security team, Woods! The head of security, Andrew, is great. I felt well taken care of.
I love everyone there but Asia and Bri are my favs.....
Big dance space during special events, a large bar in the front and a smaller bar in the back. Friendly staff and security team. Will come back again. Cocktail prices and good beer options.
A very nice spot. A very large spot with good food at a reasonable price. Every night is a themed night and they have a very good crowd even on the weekdays. I will be going back to experience more of their food. I had a cheese Burger that came with fries for $12 the Burger was thick and juicy and the fries were fresh cut... They also have wings, chicken sandwich, burritos and tacos
Best bar I’ve been to. Was visiting a friend a couple years back and reminiscing on some great nights so came back to give this place the 5 star it deserves. Most laid back and real bar I think I’ve ever been to. Great service, great music, and a really fun crowd. Haven’t been in a few years but guessing based the experience, it’s hard to lose such an amazing vibe. First bar on my list on my next trip to New York.
dopeNYC was a great time, as always. This place has good drinks and service. The bathrooms are weird and stalls are TINY, but not uncommon for NYC where every inch counts. Not great access for mobility impaired folk.
Thank God it is Friday! Let’s go grab a bite! You won’t regret it! The crowd is there! Let’s have fun & Tex Mex! This is my favorite place for enchiladas , guacamole, yuca fries, tacos and more! The quality of the products is always the best! Not too forget the steak so flavorful, marinated to perfection!
had fun dancing here on lesbian night. cool crowd. the DJ was good
Great outdoors bar. Very solid chicken tenders and fries as a big added bonus
I have got to be honest here. I been lesbian for more than 20 years, and black don't crack. I been to so many clubs , and bars, from New York all the way to California, and baby I have to say . The wood is the best so far. I'm talking DJ, yea I danced so much my feet hurt. Beautiful ladies z with no men all in my ear drooling, vibes r great, bathroom yes you can get to bathroom, and food, I'm like this if you drinking, you want food to calm that down right. That part . No men sliding in with they girlfriend trying get a 3 . U no where I'm going with this. The wood is a go for the ladies and I'm a 80's baby. The ladies r a bit young, but hey not college . I been to other bars where age is a number and they just about a dollar. Being gay is a Life style, and I feel safe there in my community. Shot out to the chef , the food was blazing. Thank you🌈 for a lesbian I highly recommend this bar
Jazz was amazing and Salem too! service is wonderful 😸
Great location for large gatherings a personal tabs! Has food in back and indoor and outdoor space as well! Bartenders super amazing. And super welcoming! Was an amazing mix of people in the night I was there and it was amazing. Highly recommend this place!
Love it! Guys had to pay $5, and girls were free on a Saturday night. The music was a mix of hip hop and chill reggae? The floor was crowded enough to be fun but not too crowded to be annoying. There’s an outdoor area which leads to another building, which is kind of like a barn. Back there in the barn building you can buy tacos + nachos! the bar is not crowded, and there are picnic tables for large groups. We were able to bring out some games like connect four; and it was a perfect time to pull out catchphrase on our phone. I really like this place because there’s 3 spaces with different vibes, suitable for a large group!
This place is a gem. Drink prices are really affordable. The vibe was such an experience. A place to dance and a place to chill in their outdoor section and eat. Fantastic place to go with friends or dates! It actually has to be one of the best bars I’ve been too. LBGT friendly and security was good.
I had one of the best, most random nights ever in this bar! Was in town last week, was out walking through Brooklyn, and randomly popped into this little spot. Completely dead except for one person at the bar... because it was about 530pm on a Thursday. Fine by me! I'm well past the party age at this point. (To be clear, this place is normally hopping. I just happened to be there at the perfect time for me haha). Bartender Ferg was awesome...once he saw me. (Haha Ferg, I kid! I kid! You were truly great!) Ferg was great to talk to, provided great service, and really made me feel welcome. Honestly, I had the best time ever here. Met some great local guys and had great drinks and conversations. These guys happened to be local liquor and beer reps who were there hanging out and bought me a couple of drinks! Like Ferg told me, I really was there at the right time that night. I love this place. Fantastic vibes and hope to visit again. I'm probably older than the normal crowd, but I had one of the most memorable, random nights of my life here, and I had to give a shout out for a great NYC memory. 👍
One of the best bars in nyc with the best bartenders, kind people and they will have your back
Good bar with a dance floor and a good crowd. There's three portions to this place - the front bar and dance floor, an open space with picnic tables in between, and a back bar with the food stand. We came here on night in March, and even then the outdoor portion was filled with smokers and people. I'm sure on a summer night it gets really popular. The back had a good food stand, which is ingenious. We got a burger and nachos and chowed down halfway through dancing. If you buy 5 shots you get 1 free!
Went to a great LGBTQ night on a Wednesday was Beyonce themed. I had a blast. I had a burger with fries and it was SO FRESH and DELICIOUS. I’m only giving four stars because it was a little bit crowded.
Went here around 2pm in Saturday and sat in the back patio. Had some of the best wings and nachos in my life. The wings were so crispy and well seasoned. The food was reasonably priced. The frozen drinks were good but pricey($14). The do played a good mix of top 40. Would go back again and bring more friends.
Went on a Saturday with friends and there was no cover. It was really crowded and so hot inside but there was an outside section which was good. Bartenders were nice and drinks reasonably priced. DJ was hittin. Bathrooms were dark and nasty tho.
Finally made it to Wednesday at the Woods a couple weeks back for pride. It was a hot mess to say the least. Y’all need ac in the indoor space, please! Spicy marg was good and I loved the large outdoor and indoor space. Would appreciate variety of music and better security because it is so huge. I do agree with someone’s review that it should be better organized. Also just a bit more light especially in the bathroom! **This is unique to Wednesday at the woods.
Good food in back albeit relatively slow service for an empty bar. The Frozen tropical drink was tasty but would have expected a bigger portion for the pricing. Will stop back by if in the neighborhood. The bar seemed like it probably gets lively in a good way in the evenings.
This place is a hit or miss depending the on the night. Some nights they have a cover and other times it's free. I've been here during times when the DJ was great, the dance floor was alive and the was an overall fun time. Then I've also gone on nights when the DJ is terrible and no one is dancing. The drinks are pretty well priced with a shot and beer combo for $9-$10.
nice place, young crowd. Cocktails are okay, nothing special in flavor or presentation, that’s why 4 stars out of 5. I’ve been here with some friends (birthday celebration) and we had a lot of fun. Music is okay too, maybe too commercial. But overall the vibe and the atmosphere are nice and I recommend this place. Maybe for a pre-game or a late night drink/music craving with friends.
Really nice bar. I went on a Saturday at 430pm prior to attending a concert nearby. The bar is all wood and dark inside. Great music playing (not too loud at that time) and really friendly staff. Wide variety of alcohol including high end choices. They have a drink menu on the wall of specialty drinks. I had the Spicy Dead Lady. Which was spicy and delicious with Mezcal. All specialty drinks seem to pre made and served from a tap. The drink was delicious but I prefer my drinks made at the time that I order them. Drinks range from $14 to $16. Shots $8 to $10. I did not order a non pre-made drink. I like the vibe so much, I would return but this time I would ask for regular drink.
One of the great local bars still standing. Great large bar with dance nights on the reg. can’t wait to come back here.
This place was really nice and well air conditioned on the inside. The outside bar area gives you a feel like you’re on vacation. The bartenders were attentive and extremely nice. My only problem with this place is the bathrooms. They are absolutely disgusting and you can’t see. The whole bathroom is painted black and there is no light switch for light. There is a small red light at the top that lights absolutely nothing. You are literally using the bathroom in darkness. Only the handicapped bathroom had some light but still dark. This establishment needs to be more mindful of women, women’s biological needs and what women need to do in the bathroom. We need to see. I would kindly ask management to get some real light in these bathrooms. I had to put my phone light on because I was in complete darkness with a tinge of red light above the door. This is unacceptable. The bathrooms let me know a man owns this place. Please make your bathrooms women friendly
Great spot! Unfortunately they changed the kitchen so the food is different. We went there expecting the amazing food from last summer, and now it's all meat and BBQ. But vibes were great. We went to a hip hop party there on a Saturday afternoon.
The back patio is where we sat after we snagged a drink from the bar. I wasn't expecting there to be a small restaurant in the back tucked away. I ordered for takeout right on time cause they closed a little while after I got my vegan calamari and fries. It was very good and even though it was a great amount I wish it was more calamari once my husband got a hold of it lml
I can't remember the name of the drink that I ordered but it was a cocktail on tap which is my first time ever hearing of that. The drink was nice and strong. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because I wanted a long island iced tea but they said they don't make those which is crazy because it's a full bar so all the alcohol you need to make a long island was there but I guess they want you to order the speciality drinks on tap. I don't know. But it's a nice chill spot
please play more gaga on wednesdays please it will maximize the slay by ten fold amber valentine if you are listening please answer the call
Roomy venue bar with a solid open indoor and outdoor concept and cool spicy drinks/decent Mexican food best served as a night out with a large crowd rather than just a couple of friends. $14 a drink; $17 a dish. 3.75/5 stars as a night bar.
No shade, clearly a place for the 35 and under crowd. Drinks were alright. The Blue Point on tap was horrible as you can clearly taste that the tap needs to be cleaned out. The surroundings are nice and the open space in the back is cool.
It's changed. I haven't gone in a year and I went tonight and the vibe was weird. Some people were dancing with us the entire night and having fun, but then you get other half that gave you the stank face and lots of others just didn't want to dance. A friend of mine I met there asked if it was Date Night or something? Great DJ and workers but half the guests were uppity.
We went to their Wednesday evening party. The music was overall pretty good, and it would have been a lot more fun if it wasn't SWELTERING inside- it didn't seem like they cranked the AC to accommodate the number of people. Everyone was literally dripping sweat, it definitely felt 85F+ in there. And though there were many fans and ceiling fans, they were either off or on low. Dancing's definitely a lot less fun when you're already overheating. I don't know if this was a one-time issue or if it's always like this.
I had one of the best burgers ever at The Woods. Absolutely delicious and got it to-go quickly. The restaurant staff was friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, the front of the house doorman was unwelcoming and rude. From other reviews posted, I am not the only one with this experience. He needs to go.
It's nice but beware ladies night is early 20s. Max age probably 25. Mostly college students.
Had a great time here. Nice music selection. I would’ve eat bar food unless you really have to. Drinks are hella strong too. Nice place if you love hip hop/spanish music. I would’ve eat bar check their venue for the night before coming here to be sure that’s the vibe you’re looking for.
Normally the Woods is a good time but the bouncers have been so trifling. They let me and one friend in but rejected our other friend who has a real ID from out of state. He also had a birth certificate and SSID on hand for proof but they refused to look at it. While we were outside trying to figure out what to do, we watched SIX other people face the same issue within a five minute span and get barred from entry, some of them being regulars. The bouncers said it was a “new policy, new scanners” and dismissed us all. So all of us just coincidentally brought fake IDs and the bouncers aren’t in the wrong?? Girl bye.
Drinks are decent and there’s a smoking area. But $10cover? For a bar? Never again! Go to Freehold, on the next block over. Free entry, drinks just as good, better music and no cover!
Went last Halloweekend. Not a bad place in concept, but the men who were there made my friend group incredibly uncomfortable. Full on grabbing girls to demand their attention. Do not go here alone for your safety. However, the bartender was sweet and playful with our group plus the shots weren't bad. Hopefully the crowd is more respectful of women during regular weekends.
The Woods used to be an enjoyable venue with a decent-sized dance floor and a DJ. While the DJ remains, the decision to place a large pool table in the center of what was formerly the dance floor is genuinely baffling. I brought my group here expecting the same fun, dance-friendly environment, but unfortunately that is no longer the case.
New management, new door people, new bartenders, new food situation, suddenly all the queer staff is gone and the entire place feels different. Not somewhere worth going back to anymore.
Be careful!!!! The bartenders will add an additional tip without you knowing especially when you’re drunk. The bartender also flipped off my friend it was extremely unprofessional. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR RECEIPTS!!
The drinks are ok but DON'T BUY THE FOOD the waitress is rude, the chicken nacho, taste like tuna fish in a can. If you ask to replace your order with a simple item like fries you must pay 1/2 price. TOTALLY NOT WORTH IT, I JUST LEFT THE FOOD AND THE RUDE WAITRESS.
Was a great spot with great bartenders. Now you have noobies making disgusting drinks, not even close to tasty. Drinks are either filled with juice/soda or iced/water. It is like I paid 14 bucks for a cup of Tropicana top with a sliced lime. Bring cash as well because they will add an extra WOODS TAX to your total for not having cash. Something told me to look at my bill. Boom. Only, and ONLY the food is worth your time now. I tried to give it another chance, let's say it is totally screwed up. Now they charge a 10 bucks admission fee. Holy snap. The place is a total lost place at this point.
Replacing the dance floor in the middle with a pool table in the middle??? 😭😭😭 are yall mad??? Nobody asked for this, respectfully
if youre going to check IDs and maybe get some scanners to check if theyre actually fake!! my friend is clearly over 21 and had her real ID confiscated. she gave the correct info on the ID when asked and was told that she gave the wrong info and so was denied entry. after showing a passport photo we were allowed entry but the bouncer did not admit fault. if you are going to be confiscating IDs then employ some technology to ensure they are actually fake because its bad practice to take someones legitimate identification and insist they "file a police report" to get it back. large crowd of people experiencing the same issues. witnessed another girl not get her ID returned because the bouncer said she was causing too much of a fuss (a reasonable response to having your real ID taken). bad music
Extremely disrespectful staff. Very loud bar and disrespectful to the neighbors, neighborhood, and the community in that area. This place is constantly blasting music on every night of the week till the AM (not just the weekends). This is a residential area after all and they are not willing to do anything about the loudness at anytime. There are other bars in the area that respect the people living there, for example, other bars in the area would limit their outdoor space to 10PM to avoid blasting outdoor music and loud people gathering outdoors. Very confrontational bar tenders and will threaten and try to intimidate you with the bouncer at the door if you try and ask them to keep it down. The entire neighborhood is bothered by this bar.
Watch the bartenders with your cards. They will give themselves atip without you knowing. My tab was 35 dollars I gave her a cash tip and she still stole 12 from my card. She has a short hair cut. She lucky because if I would have knew that I would have snatched her from behind that bar. Be careful. This place be literally over capacity and and anyone can take your card with you knowing. Be safe
I hate to have to leave a review like this for one of the only lesbian-catered nightlife spaces in NYC, but the treatment that my friends and I received last night at the Woods by the bouncers was so upsetting and violent that I have no choice but to do so. The bouncers refused to take one member of our party’s New York City ID, claiming that she needed to have a New York State ID. Our friend is not a US citizen and had the only ID she typically needs to get into bars and clubs, as her passport is not in English and wouldn’t have been able to verify her date of birth. The two male bouncers said our friend’s ID was rejected and that she wouldn’t be able to get in with the rest of us, which is a completely unsafe practice—splitting up a group of visibly queer people on a night out when alcohol is being consumed is never, never ok. As different members of our group began to ask the bouncers to either talk the issue out or to give us a moment to make a game plan after we waited nearly an hour to get into the bar in the first place and didn’t want our group to get split up, the bouncers began raising their voices at us, telling us to get out of line and escalating the situation. They then accused me of calling them names and began insulting and humiliating our group. The bouncers completely denied us entry based on these claims of name calling and started letting people behind us into the bar, barely checking IDs and accepting photographs of people’s IDs on their phone because they were too busy yelling at and being belligerent with my group, who refused to leave the line due to the unfair treatment we had received from the moment they decided to deny our non-American friend. Even after apologizing to these men, they continued to berate us and deny us entry. All in all, this was a completely upsetting and humiliating experience to say the least. Organizers at The Woods: I am BEGGING you to hire queer bouncers for Woods Wednesdays, ESPECIALLY during pride month, because the bouncers that were working last night were violently misogynistic. The whole experience felt like dealing two men who were on a power trip and got their feelings hurt when they received pushback on their unacceptable behavior, which I’m sure many non-cis men have been on the receiving end of before. This entire insulting experience should NOT have happened, and I am honestly not itching to go back to The Woods anytime soon until there are queer bouncers hired for Wednesday nights.
I've been going to "The Woods" for a few years now and I have always enjoyed myself at this establishment. The food is pretty good and they serve my favorite beer on tap. Now for the first time last night I actually had a pretty unpleasant experience. I walked up to the entrance with my brother and my cousin who was visiting from overseas, and we were told we couldn't get in unless accompanied by females. I was so confused and asked the bouncer since when was this a rule? He said "the owner started this whole new thing" and encouraged us to return with females". I've never felt so discriminated against like I did last night. I would understand if my brother or my cousin were being rude or disrespectful but that's definitely not the case. We simply walked up and got turned away. We were dressed pretty nice, for those who might read this and wonder if we were dressed appropriately or might even think that we probably said or did anything wrong, but we didn't. I must honestly say this was something I never expected nor felt before, especially from "THE WOODS". 😕😳
Love this place . Food is great , my only issue is the bartender named Ferg. He’s extremely rude . I asked him to make me a sweet drink with tequila he got annoyed and walked off . Came back with a Sample of a pre-made drink. And said “ you’re just going to drink my free shit” I don’t know why they would hire this man to work as a bartender when he can’t make any drinks and gets annoyed when you ask to do his job .
GET A SCANNER! if you are going to deny valid ids, you need to have a scanner and upon reading the reviews this is a rampant issue. My friend from out of state was not permitted enterance due to it not being valid. We were in line for over 2 hours this is not acceptable! And the security was very rude.
Ive never had a good time at this bar. Yes, the outdoor area and huge dance floor is appealing. But the staff has always been so bad. Very rude and slow, taking their time with each order and blatantly ignoring customers. During happy hour once they overcharged me by $20 since it was busy and thought the happy hour sign was taken down, when it wasn't. Very unprofessional!
I was racial profile at the door by a black lesbian security guard. I waited on line and she said you habla ingles, i speak perfect English and followed by its a private party while people Behind me we’re stating “I wonder if we can get it” they all got in but since i don’t habla i was not let in. For all that crap they talk about Trump i got discriminated by people of color.
Food and drinks were edible, vibes were alright, but I got my phone stolen here. Upon asking for help, literally everyone here chose to ignore me and essentially gave me the cold shoulder. So all in all, this place happens to serve food and drinks, but also enables crime by serving to a crowd of thieves and creeps.
If you want your phone stolen and no one from the staff to care / laugh in your face - definitely the best bar in Brooklyn!! Would stay as far as possible from the hell hole. Absolutely rude staff, terrible patrons, and the worst vibes. Wish I could give a negative review.
Genuinely the worst experience I’ve had at a bar. I’m 23 and they denied my state ID that I’ve had no problem using at many bars over the past few years. It was happening to lots of other people in line that were clearly of age and the bouncers were EXTREMELY rude when I politely asked them to try scanning it again and they straight up refused.
The straight bouncers decide if you’re “gay”enough to go inside. Will deny you entry if you’re not a stereotypical gay person. Manager didn’t even care. Idk how this place is even open if they constantly do this to people, so much for being part of a community.
A club that discriminated people who are straight. Because only lesbians can attend. So much for being treated equally. This club refused two people my friend was with because they weren't gay/lesbian by the female bouncer. Just an advice, DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE EVEN IF YOU ARE AN LGBTQ.
Due the bouncer I was never able to come in, though he was doing job to make he had to everybody id. He held on to my Id and refused to give it back to me. Because someone did not had there Id in the grgroup Then refuse service to everyone that had id in the group. Though the individual withe I'd went to get there I'd. So I would not recommend this place due to customers service and to the young bouncer who had no customer service.
This place on any day other than a wed day is a 1/10. Not only do they charge a $10 (unnecessary) cover (the place was literally empty) but the service sucks. Literally would never come here if they didn’t have Wednesday last nights. I Hope ownership of the Woods reads this and does something about the AWFUL service.
My group of friends and I tried have a nice night out in one of the only safe queer spaces in the area. However, the bouncers (who are visibly drinking shots of alcohol in front of us chased by Redbull by the way, drinking on the job is insane) rejected my 25 year old friend bc her ID wouldn’t scan correctly then proceeded to harass her about it (this is the only bar it’s never scanned at) and we gone here most Wednesdays and were starting to love and consider this our regular. When she proceeded to walk away upset (rightfully so since they were incredibly harassing), they all made fun of her incredibly loudly calling her waterworks and all this mean stuff. It made me feel incredibly unwanted and othered and completely unlike what woods Wednesdays are supposed to be about.
I’ve been to the Woods countless times over the years and loved the atmosphere and clientele. The bouncers are often extremely rude and tonight was no exception. My partner who I have been to the woods with 10+ times was really rejected. It got to the point where the bouncers were laughing in our face and calling us cry babies. my partner is 25 years old and has an out of state ID. I’m not going to lie I have known of at least five people who are under age who have gotten into this bar. The treatment that we took tonight was nothing short of insane. Safe spaces for queer people, especially black queer people are a few and far between. Receiving this treatment from another black person is extremely hurtful. As someone who has celebrated birthdays at the woods and has some of the most important moments of their lives, celebrated at this bar, it’s nothing more than a kick in the face. I am utterly disgusted .
Hello! My name is Ash Goetz and I’ve been a loyal patron of The Woods for years. Tonight I had a really horrible experience with the bouncers at the Woods. It’s lesbian night on Wednesdays and that’s when I come with my partner and friends. Tonight, my ID did not scan: I am 25 and have been let in many times to the Woods. Tonight, the bouncer denied me because of this. I understand IDs don’t always scan and that’s the policy. The last time I went to the woods, my ID didn’t scan just like this time but they let me in because it seems like one of the bouncers were in a good mood? I’ve worked in bartending and know how clubs work: my friends and I were very understanding. They were be adamant that I were to be denied access. I called the cops so they could come and verify my ID, but they never showed. The bouncers were talking, gossiping, and taking shots calling me a cry baby (lol) even though I did not cry…they kept laughing and being immature that they were denying me. I am 25 years old and there were many underage people getting into the club. It’s crazy because my ID scans at TSA but not the Woods. I don’t know….it just leaves me a bad taste in the mouth about a place I love and have supported for years as a lesbian. Anyways, if management could fix this that would be amazing. And yes, I will be bringing my passport next time but even in that self is crazy. Love the Woods but this is just not great: me and my friends left!
This is the one safe space where we come every week, and my friend got rejected at the door because her VALID CALIFORNIA ID didn’t scan on their machine. They refused to re-scan, and then talked shit about her as soon as she was 10 feet away talking about “the crybaby over there with the ID written in crayon.” Girl is 25 YEARS OLD. She’s not faking, we’ve been here before a gazillion times. Not the homophobia on gay night Ike be for real.
YOU APPARENTLY HAVE TO BE A MAN TO GET SERVICE AT THIS BAR. I visited from Tampa and was recommended this place by a friend. While one of the bartenders was nice enough to charge my friends phone, she later went up to the bar to ask for it, and the bartender (only male working night of 4/5) got an attitude because she apparently accidentally asked for it while he was making a drink for someone else. I then apologized for her and said she didn’t realize. He then said he wasn’t serving us anymore. I wish I could just decide I wasn’t going to work at work anymore. As for my original statement, the female bartenders who were unaware of the situation didn’t serve us either and just continued to walk past us. To get a drink I literally offered the man next to me a free shot if he ordered for us and as soon as he walked up he was served. It was giving we hate women at this bar. Do better.
I had a very terrible experience going to the Woods on Friday, January 4th. I had a friend in town for her last evening in NYC and wanted to take her somewhere special, as I’d been to this bar two times previously on Lesbian night and had a wonderful time dancing in a seemingly safe environment. While it was my mistake that I didn’t realize the Woods wasn’t always a queer bar, what I didn’t expect was for it to be so dramatically different in terms of comfort when it is not this themed occasion. My friend and I were approached by two men in the bathroom and they both singled us out while one walked towards me asking “WHAT WAS WRONG WITH US?! - then proceeding to comment on our physical appearance saying we were pretty- and cornering me into their creepy dark and red bathroom (that most the time you need to use your own phone flashlight to see anything in.) overall, I just had a scary experience after expecting a completely different atmosphere. I won’t ever be going back.
This bar has a lesbian themed event every Wednesday. There are quite a few number of gay men at this bar on those nights , but if you are a gay white male over 45 the doormen will not let you enter, citing it is a "private function ," That's a flat out lie. I've asked over 50 people at this event, either lesbian or gay male, if it is a ",private party," and they all say "No," Some friends have offered to bring me in with them as a guest, but the doorman still refuses to let me in and my friend leaves also. I've now tried 4 times in 4 months to get in. I've asked my gay male friends over 45 in the area, not just white, to see if they were allowed. All were allowed except the white men, who were also told it was a private event, It's just flat out discrimination and BS. Many of my lesbian friends were not aware of this until they witnessed it. There are more people that see this now and don't go back. And, yes while it is a lesbian themed event, the gay men that do go and allowed in, say it is/was a great time(music) and that no female cares if gay men are present, but they all say the bouncers/doorman are homophobic to gay men in general every night. No one cares if hetero male and female are present or allowed in - but da.n this place is so blatantl about who they hate, BS and lie.. Until there is a SUGN that says "only females allowed, no one over 45 allowed and that they have a right to reject male customers based on their skin color," then and others will keep proving this hate. This place is listed in many gay male publications for places to visit.M8st publications and advertising for gay nightlife doesnt even say "a lesbian themed event or a private event. Their IG and other similar outlets never oost anything about their Wed nights but they post about every other nights events. The last thing this place would ever host is a gay male themed evening. They only want a certain kind.
If you are from Connecticut or out of state BRING YOUR PASSPORT. They do not accept real ids. I argued with the bouncers for about an hour or two about my real Connecticut id and had no genuine proof of why they thought it was fake!
There was an insanely rude big backed security guard who berated and threatened my friend right before entering and checking his ID, he said he would kick him out and make sure he'd never be able to step into this place again. He was so insanely rude and threatening he killed the night and asked if we were gay and if we was a couple which is so intrusive and inappropriate! Fire that guard!
Putting a pool table on one of the best dance floors in NYC is truly one of the dumbest decisions I've seen. This is from both a customer and hospitality professionals point of view. Drinks were always meh. The DJs and the yard is what brought people in. Now, it's terrible. Do not go until they revert.
