Uchiwa Ramen Alamda Reviews
I came by to shop in the area on a Sunday night where I was hungry and in need of food. I looked around and noticed this spot on the second floor and I decided to give it a shot. Upon arrival, it was close to dinner time and the place was almost fully packed, but luckily I was seated almost immediately. They offer small bites, rice plates, specialty items, ramen, non-alcoholic beverages, alcohol drinks and much more to choose from. At the moment I had a big appetite and everything sounded like I needed to order it. Everything here is made to order which is always a plus for me since it is quality over quantity and I never mind the wait since I am a very patient person. When the food arrived, everything was up to standard, from freshness to taste to the ingredients they use. The staffs here are very welcoming, well trained and understanding where my visit was a satisfying and issue free one. I highly recommend this place to all ramen enthusiasts, if you need a quick bite, to anyone willing to try something new, if you can not decide what to eat or if you just so happen to be in the area to check them out. I definitely will be back to tryout the other delicious options they have to offer.
To start off the appetizers were amazing. I went when I was really hungry so I couldn't wait to eat so I got served panko shrimp right away. Enough to at my appetite but not too much to fill me up. I always loved watching my favorite anime character eat Ramen in Naruto and this brought me back to my childhood. The freshly made ramen was super good! Gonna come back here again next time I'm around. It does get packed pretty fast so if your comfortable sitting at a bar they even have hangers to put all your shopping bags off the floor.
This was my very first time having real Japanese ramen, and I was honestly so scared! I even told the server, Darrel, that I’d never had anything except Top Ramen, and he was SO nice about it. He took the time to explain everything, from the different broths to the toppings, and helped me pick the perfect bowl. The ramen was incredible!! so rich, flavorful, and comforting. But beyond the food, what really made this experience amazing was the welcoming atmosphere and Darrel’s kindness. I had such a fun and great experience, and I will definitely be back!
We went there for dinner for the first time. The reviews on Google was not that great but decided to try and give my own opinion. We ordered a Miso Ramen, a Ginger Chicken Rice Bowl, Takoyaki, Edamame. The service was good. I like my Miso Ramen, the chicken rice was good and the appetizers were good also. The restaurant atmosphere was very good; however the atmosphere outside is very noise with too many teenagers running wild unattended by adult and security really didn't do anything.
Really great service, delicious broth, and perfectly cooked noodles. Really enjoyed the chill atmosphere and cool dishes. I had the Tonkotsu & my partner had the Tantanmen ramem. We tried one another's broths and loved the array of flavors. Will definitely go again!

Really great service, and it’s always easy to get a table for dinner. I love the shoyu ramen — the broth is flavorful without being too heavy. Having grown up in Hawaii and spent summers in Japan with my family, I really appreciate having more ramen options like this. So many places in the Bay Area serve ramen that’s rich and heavy (tonkotsu), so this is such a refreshing alternative. The service is always friendly, the menu has lots of fun choices, and I’ll definitely be back!
I had chicken katsu. Came super fresh with perfect panko. I don’t understand why the average rating is so bad here. Yes, I didn’t try ramens here. But anyway one dish is perfect here
I had an amazing experience here! The ramen is absolutely delicious, the pork broth is incredibly rich and flavorful, and the soft-boiled eggs are cooked to perfection with that perfect creamy center. Their spicy chili oil takes it to another level, adding just the right amount of heat and depth without overpowering the broth. Every bite was comforting and satisfying. Definitely coming back!

I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Fried Shrimp. While it was a bit pricey, the food was actually quite good. The fried shrimp was crispy and the flavors were solid, though the ramen didn't have enough broth for my liking. As someone who eats ramen very often, I can tell this isn't strictly "authentic," but I can appreciate the effort—it feels like they are trying hard to move in the right direction. The biggest issues were the long wait time and the restaurant layout. The space isn't very well-designed for larger groups or gatherings; I can see the vibe they are going for, but the sense of space needs improvement. If they can work on the service speed and kitchen efficiency, it would be a much better choice.
They could make food specially for food allergy concerns. Service quite slow during peak occupancy.
The ramen fell short of expectations for the $17.50 Tonkatsu with Chashu. The noodles were good and firm, but soft boiled egg was plain and non-marinated. Additionally the bean sprouts were not pickled which made the broth feel less rich. Four stars only for the amazing service and dedicated staff

Well… since it’s newly opened I’ll give it a 4 star. I ordered Tonkotsu ramen thought it would be a good way to test if it’s a good ramen store. The broth is kinda watery and not as rich as I expected it to be. The amount of the assorted veggies are nice but tastes blend and not much seasoning. Noodle qualities are okay… Over all a 3 star average ramen. Might be good enough for on Asian people but im slight disappointed. But the staff is nice! Good to have a new ramen place in Emeryville plaza. I wish the quality of food can get improved!
Honestly was not a bad place, the service was very good, however, they severely lack in the taste department. The broth in the Chicken Paitan was subpar and not white at all, as it should be. Overall, I think that the restaurant is alright.

Would not come back. The food were honestly overpriced. Spam Musubi pieces were so deceiving, it was only a small piece to cover the top of each and was overly salty. The ramen was not good at all. I rarely went to restaurant and had my ramen leftover but I couldn’t even finish this.

The pork was fine but the broth was bland. :( The spam chips were interesting but it was alright
We were really excited to try this new place which is walking distance for us. Id say it’s good enough for non Asian people. Service was great, everyone was super nice. Tongatsu for $17 was not worth it. Veggies aren’t pickled and seasoned. Broth was not creamy- noff said. Id give it another try, maybe in a couple of months. It’s still pretty new after all
There is no doubt in my mind that this was a superior broth. Everything was as it should be except, it was cold. I don't mean warm, I mean cold. They carried it all the way except the last little bit. Cold ramen is against the rules. All three of us reported the same thing. Want hot ramen, go across the street to Tokyo Central and buy a ramen bowl. They provide a microwave. At least that ramen would not be cold.
The servers were very nice, the pan fried ramen was good, but the ramen soup was disgusting, it tasted like old fish and nothing else. I wasn’t able to eat it. I do not consider myself a picky eater.
Had to Hes the worst ramen I’ve ever had in my life. It had barely any flavor, thr miso tasted bland, BEAN SPROUTS??? I’ve never had bean sprouts in ramen . Both my bowl and my friend’s bowl were flavorless and the chili spices they offered weren’t helpful at all. The chashu was tough, the broth not creamy or flavorful at all. The noodles were soft as hell.. overall cup noodles tasted better than their ramen AND ITS OVERPRICED !!!

Service and atmosphere were great! But food lacked severely. We ordered the Vegetarian Miso Ramen and one of their Special ramens, which unfortunately came out super bland. We tried to add taste with soy sauce and the chili oil, but nothing really got it to taste good for us. We hope the best for the restaurant, the owner and the workers are great, but definitely need to make some improvements with the ramen.
It was the worst bowl of Ramen I've ever had, bland, overpriced. Owner is very arrogant and rude. Being a career server and coming from Ramen houses myself, this was a nightmare experience. I told the server that I did not like the food and wanted to close and head out. I felt it was obvious I didn't like the dish as it sat untouched for some time. The servers did not check in with us. I expected to have it removed as is customary, they had left it on the bill. My kid & I took 1 bite. The server left Hi-Chews, I said we don't eat pork(an ingredient), that we're vegan and asked that he remove them. He left them and went to ask the manager about refunds. The owner came to my table eating a bowl of the soup I ordered arguing that it wasn't bland and tasted good to him. An embarrassing ordeal for me. He claimed he's not used to people saying they dislike his food, demanded I pay full price. By the way, reviews online say otherwise. Many have said what I said and also noted his hostility towards guests who dislike their meal. They never took away the Hi-Chews that I'd ask be removed. My kid ended up eating one. We're vegan Buddhists. This was a disastrous dining experience. Only giving 1 star for cucumber salad that was good. I wish I could give less. This is lawsuit material, owner when I told him these had pork acted baffled. Know the ingredients of the food you are serving. If someone says they're vegan, don't give them meat. What if my kid had an allergy? She's never eaten meat before. Sticking to Mensho & Marafuku who are reliable and quality. This place doesn't know hospitality or how to take feedback or even properly check in on tables or pace food, they are not in the businessof listening to guests here. We were the first table sat and watched as 2 other parties all got their food first, only for when it arrived for it to be the worst Ramen of our lives. In the end I paid 50% for something I hated and barely touched, along with public embarrassment.
This place is perfect for anyone who hates eating food that has any flavor. Also it’s great for kids below 7 and elders above 87 (no disrespect). The chef and cooks should be proud of their accomplishments of putting out utter bland reasonably priced food.
This place is just awful. They somehow managed to mess up everything. To start, service was horrible. Walked in and was ignored until I had to literally call out to the server to finally seat me. While I was eating, the server was just standing behind the counter, staring at me. They were bored and had nothing to do. Probably because the restaurant was basically empty besides me and another customer. I should have taken the hint from there that the place was bad. Now for the food… I’ve had the real stuff in Japan and it’s flavorful and hearty. Tried their tonkatsu and it was bland. Just flavorless. Had to quickly do a taste bud check by sipping my drink to make sure I wasn’t losing my mind. All in all, honestly forgettable. Just avoid this place and don’t make the same mistake I made. They don’t deserve even half of what they’re charging.
As a Bay Area Japanese American I grew up with packaged ramen. Then in Japan i had the real Sapporo ramen in Sapporo. Then the ramen restaurants began setting up in the Bay Area , one, a branch of one in Fukuoka , a real treat! So I went to Uchiwa expecting the usual high quality for the SF Bay Area. It was a disappointment . The tonkotsu broth was too heavy and not flavorful though the pork was fine. The price is excessive! Nice staff and presentation and good service , but, all in all , I think this restaurant is okay for tourists who want to eat Asian style noodle soup but don’t know ramen beyond the packaged kind. My friend had the fried ramen which was much too salty and gave her a headache. She is a seasoned worldwide traveler and open to all kinds of foods and tastes but her noodle dish was a disappointment. I’m sorry for this negative review but i hope it is helpful.
Food was cool, but the service was terrible. When I first walked in, I heard the R&B and Hip Hop playing and felt at home, but that feeling disappeared as soon as I sat down. I wasn’t greeted, acknowledged, nothing. The server had an attitude from the jump and wasn’t friendly at all. This was my first time eating ramen, so I had questions about modifying my order. Instead of helping, she got irritated and told me she wouldn’t make any changes because she didn’t want me to say the food was nasty. The only reason I stayed was because I was hungry and didn’t have time to look for something else. When I asked about an item on the menu, she literally said “it’s right there” instead of just answering my question. I don’t even write reviews, but this experience might’ve unlocked a new hobby. It’s crazy to walk into a place that celebrates my culture through music and art, but can’t respect the actual people whose culture they’re inspired by. I’m sure other Black folks feel this too. They love our culture, but can’t stand us. Wild.

Been twice now and have tried both ramen and a tonkatsu plate. Both were awful, tbh. The price point just didn't make any sense. Ramen: Overcooked noodles that taste like the kind you get prepackaged from the grocery store and the server tried to argue with us that the shoyu ramen we were mistakenly served was a tonkotsu ramen, despite being a clear broth with no hint of the milky, thick broth that usually comes with tonkotsu ramen. Never in my life have I had one with clear broth, and I've had a ton of ramen in my life, including in Japan. I always order tonkotsu with rare exceptions. This was worse than cheap mall ramen but with a Marufuku price tag, regardless of the (non-Japanese) server trying to convince us that we got what we ordered. They insisted that tonkotsu broth is clear and that the others add milk to the broth (like BRUH that's so hilariously wrong I think it broke my brain in the moment). Just FYI to the staff: the milky color comes from the pork bones they simmer for a long time, not dairy. Now the tonkatsu. Portion was generous, but for some reason, instead of just using Bulldog brand or any other standard katsu sauce, they decided to try making their own. I got some kind of lumpy, purple(!!), jam-like sweet paste without a hint of Worcestershire that was disgusting and also nowhere in the ballpark of tonkatsu sauce...It wasn't even in the same sport. All these missteps just makes me think there's not a single Japanese person or even person of East Asian descent anywhere in the kitchen because there's no freaking way they could sincerely be fine with what's going out. The food is like a game of telephone gone horribly wrong. To their credit, the karaage was fine. It's hard to mess that up, though.
