5A5 Steak House Alameda Reviews
May very well be the future of steak houses, unbelievable. How does this place also have some of the best scallops I’ve ever tasted? Perfect is the word when describing the slabs of meat coming from this kitchen. The porterhouse and mignon were perfect. The porterhouse came with a bacon jam which was an excellent combination with the steak. Now let’s talk scallops. The scallops were incredibly delicious, amazingly prepared, a nice size and swimming in a delectable butter sauce. The amount of amuse bouchée and palate cleansers is Michelin star worthy. Seriously how does this place not carry a star? Great food, fantastic service, amazing ambiance, what else is left? An incredible dinning experience and definitely worth the price. Dos steaks up. 🥩🥩
We loved this place! A friend invited us here for dinner after swearing by this place, and he was right! The food here is fantastic, the ribeye steak was big and greatly cooked. The service was excellent and the desert was surprising and delightful. We are going to come back every month.
The food, the impeccable attention to service, the location. Everything was just right. Steaming hot, dripping deliciousness, served within a reasonably short time. The alcoholic drink options were vast and varied. Everything made this visit perfect. Keep it up!
I took my boyfriend (who has very high standards with food) to celebrate him and he actually said it was THE BEST STEAK he’s ever had!! Which I agree with. Amazing meat. Level 10 and 11 wagyu!! Definitely a pricey meal but worth the price. Also great cocktails. Service, however, wouldn’t receive my full 5 stars.
Have you ever had steak that tastes like butter? That's what they do here..they get beef from Japan called Wagyu and it's amazing. An upscale place with a very very very interesting bathroom situation. I'll let that be a surprise. But back to the beef. We had the ribeye 4oz and it was great, almost would have been better without the truffle butter (not that kind) and just plain but it was great nonetheless. The prices are reasonable for the area and the cut off meat. This makes for a great date night where you can share a few things. For sure will come back and try more of the beef offerings.
Honestly one of the best steak houses I’ve ever visited. My husband and I visited to celebrate our 5th year anniversary and everything was superb. The Wagyu sliders were absolutely delicious. The truffle fries were amazing and our steaks were cooked perfectly. In between courses we were given samples and plate cleansers of which I thought was awesome. The lighting and the vibe sets a very laid back and romantic tone and I love it. Perfect place to visit after a hard days work.
Came here on a Sunday evening and was pleasantly surprised that this place was not crowded. The hamachi spoons are always a pleaser. Enjoyed one of the best filets you can have in SF. The sweet potato gnocchi side was outstanding... Can't believe I had not tried it before.
Exceptional experience with Japanese steaks and excellent wine. One of my top 5 SF restaurants. Prices relatively high but you know what you pay for.
My favorite place to have steak. High quality and tasty. You should definitely try the bone in ribeye.
32 oz medium rare bone in ribeye cooked to perfection. Their cocktails and wine selections are superb. Didn't get to try their A5A experience or executive whiskey flight - always a next time.

A5A's transformation into an Izakaya offers a captivating culinary journey, a far cry from its previous incarnation as a steakhouse. This isn't merely a change of cuisine; it's a reimagining of the fine dining experience itself. Executive Chef Cat Wang has masterfully crafted an extensive tasting menu that is as visually stunning as it is deliciously complex. Each dish is a meticulously balanced composition of textures and flavors, a symphony for the palate. Imagine the delicate dance of contrasting elements – a sudden burst of spice followed by the smooth, silken glide of another ingredient, each layer unfolding to reveal surprising depths of taste. The experience is undoubtedly luxurious and comes with a commensurate price tag. However, the investment is richly rewarded. This is not just a meal; it's an event, a carefully curated exploration of culinary artistry. Beyond the exceptional food, the service is impeccable. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, and unobtrusive, creating an atmosphere of sophisticated ease. Chef Wang's personal interaction with diners further elevates the experience, providing an intimate connection to the heart of the creative process. A5A's new identity is a testament to culinary innovation and a must-experience for discerning palates.

This restaurant earns the title of one of the top 25 Steakhouses in the country. The 5 A ribeye was excellent. The mac and cheese gnocchi was delicious. Hana paired an fantastic wine (Martin Ray) with my meal. The bacon Bread was unique and good. This place has a good atmosphere for business or a group meeting. The staff was great and the service met or exceeded expectations at every level. If you are a steak lover this place is a must. The only thing that could make it better is live music and a larger portion option. As far as price, you get the quality you pay for.
It was a mediocre steakhouse. I got the bass. Cooked to perfection and tasted great. Ordered the banana pudding fluff thing. Cool to watch the server break the puff and mash it with the topping. Looks big but it was gone in like 3 bites. Staff were all very cool.
Came in with a reservation on a Sunday and was seated right away. The server went over the menu and showed off the delicious looking Wagyu steaks. They were considerate when taking orders by asking if there was anything that I was allergic to. I told them mango (to which I have a severe allergy - I’ll come back to this at the end). For an appetizer had the lobster. Yum. So good. It’s been on the menu since they started 9 years ago. Chose some Wagyu ribeye and T bone for comparison. The 4 oz Wagyu was delicious. So tender and so buttery. T bone grilled to perfection as well. Both served with delicious sauces. Sides included a creamy mashed potato and asparagus. Desert was the chocolate cake which also was fabulous. (So to come back to the Mango. Part of they way through the meal the server brings over two free smatterings from the kitchen. They were little spoons with some sort of a mango purée. Guess they were trying to kill me before I had a chance to pay the bill. Not smart. And why ask what I’m allergic to if you are going to serve it anyway. Anyway...minus one star though it should be more).
Phil was the highlight of my meal. Very humerous and professional. I sat at the bar and had a great meal. I am not sure if ordering fish at a steakhouse is what i should have done lol. But i guess it was what i wanted at the time. The food was fresh. I had the sea bass and lobster tempura...

While the service is great, the food is very mediocre. The meat on both steaks that we ordered was overcooked and dry. The starters were OK, but again, nothing to rave about. I would consider other options since the food should be much better than this at this price point
It's ok, nothing to brag about at this price point vs quality. Service have been excellent the times I have visited. Establishment is clean. Drinks are consistent. Good neighborhood. Street parking shouldn't be an issue. Doesn't seem to get to crowded during week nights. I would frequent more often if the food quality was higher up. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad but for the price it's not great.
Lobster tempura was the best dish on the menu, which says something both about how good it was and how the steak here (ok, not great) was despite the showmanship about wagyu marbling. Nice spacious restaurant, friendly service.
I enjoyed the food I ordered sitting at the bar, the service was nice. I would return in the future to try other dishes.

Phenomenally overpriced and overrated. If a $59 filet was tasty and cut like butter, it MAY be worth it. But sadly that wasn't the case. $33 for a side of truffle mac n cheese with lobster was good, not great, and barely large enough for 2. Atmosphere was nice, though it looks like something from generic from the 1980s. Service was excellent, though.
