Outstanding food, service and value. Gigantic menu with many options..we will be back!:
Not going anywhere else for Mexican cuisine again! Have THE BEST food!!!
This is the absolute best Mexican restaurant.
Very good the fish was amazing as well as the aguachile!
The food was amazing and I loved the decor!
The best Mexican food in the city!
The food was great, and the service was outstanding.
Best Mexican restaurant in New Albany!
The tacos were incredible would definitely come back
Really kind wait staff, Mella was great and made sure we had everything we needed- even anticipating our needs before we asked for them! The bar seating was packed, so we moved to a high table and had quick service. For being newly opened, they are efficient at getting orders out and make tasty food! Will definitely be back 👍
Best margaritas I’ve ever had and I’m picky. Food was good, but I would not include broccoli in your fajita salad. That was just kind of weird.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere. The sparklers with drinks were a fun touch with the kids!
Id love to eat at this place but whenever I walk in the music is just way too loud I've only been able to get food to go but its still delicious
This place was awesome. The service was absolutely amazing. Great food. The fajita chimichangas are recommended.
Great decor inside, very presentable food, drinks and delivery. The staff is incredible
Great atmosphere. Great survive friendly staff. Food was very good. Will go back again today.
The best Mexican food around. Very clean, friendly and courtesy service. Can’t wait to go back.
The food is fantastic. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. And the drinks are made with fresh squeezed fruit.
Good addition to New Albany. Open atmosphere, good food, clean and modern. Service was bit slow, but chalking it up to new crew. All in all, a pleasant experience. Will come again.
A fantastic place to eat with the family family some of the best Mexican food in ohio great prices as well.
Wonderful food and service, the inside is beautiful and the drinks were great. I will be back!
I have been twice and the food was delicious and the servers were friendly, quick and attentive.
This place is so cute, and the food was amazing ~ it may become my favorite Mexican restaurant
LGBTQ friendly and the food is really good and the service is excellent
El Rey restaurant is a delicious restaurant in New Albany! Loved the food and the service. This is exactly what New Albany needed.
This restaurant just opened so give them a break on service! So glad to have a fantastic looking restaurant and such an expansive menu here in New Albany!
Great wait staff and overall fun time. Recommend it
Great food, atmosphere and service!
Big fan! Good prices and great food. Loved the entire experience, very friendly staff.
We had a group of 30. The food, service, and atmosphere were all great! Thank you!
We loved the food, the atmosphere was great as was service! ☆☆☆☆☆ You can taste the freshness!
Great experience all around! Food and drinks were great and the service really solidified the entire experience. The murals throughout the restaurant were beautiful and the overall atmosphere was immaculate. Also very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!
Tried this for the first time and it was great. Food was delicious and came out quick. Prices were affordable and service was great. We’ll be back.
El Rey in New Albany serves tasty, consistent Mexican food with warm service and quick refills. Portions are generous, chips and salsa stay full, and the relaxed, family friendly atmosphere makes dinner feel easy and parking simple every visit for us.
I don’t normally do reviews but I honestly think this restaurant deserves 5 stars. The decor is unique and beautiful. The food was amazing, especially the queso with chorizo. My cocktail was not only beautiful but tasted fantastic. The service was quick and friendly. I will definitely be back!!
We had large team lunch here and they went out of their way to accommodate us w/ extra attendees on-the-fly and made us feel welcome. Food was out on time and delicious; every associate was super attentive & friendly- GREAT EXPERIENCE!
This is, in my opinion, the best Mexican restaurant in the central Ohio area. The food was amazing. The service was great, and we had a party of more than 20.
This is by far the best Mexican restaurant I have been to since moving to Columbus. The street style tacos with hand made corn tortillas were delicious. Generous portions of steak and the little stand they were on was pretty neat. The place is clean and the amount of effort of the remodel is truly impressive. The tile work on the walls and floors goes well with the wood accents everywhere. The service was impeccable. Very attentive people and helpful through the dining experience. Go here. Now. You won’t be disappointed.
Que rico. One of, if not, the best mexican restaurants in Central OH. Extensive menu, high quality great tasting food. Beautiful decorating. I can't wait to go back to try something else. Everything looks delicious. Edit: I went back and it's all still delicious with excellent customer service.
Thw chamorro el rey is good and different from "normal " Mexican food. It has also Molcajete totally fantastic and one of the plates preferred by the Incas.
Drinks are always on point, whether a Mexican beer on draft or margaritas from scratch. The food is good. If you like your salsa hotter just ask for the hotter salsa. Great service too.
The Birria tacos were too chewy for my liking, but it was delicious for the sauce. Everything else was great.
The food and the atmosphere were excellent, but the best part was the amazing service. I would definitely come back a thousand times.
This place is relatively new but already a huge hit! We happened to see it as it’s right off the highway and decided to stop by for dinner and had an amazing time. The restaurant is GORGEOUS. Lots of flowers, colors, and vibrant music. The food is delicious and comes in big portion sizes! We had so much fun and were pleasantly surprised as our drinks (the margarita flight) and food arrived. We recommend the flight for a fun surprise. The tacos are also worth trying out too.
Beautiful ambiance with excellent food at reasonable prices. What more could you want? I’ve been here 6 times already and I’ve tried 6 different items, all fresh, colorful and flavorful! Safe to say I love this place. I’m headed here now actually
Went to El Rey New Albany for lunch today & was blown away! Atmosphere was great, the decor was beautiful, excellent, respectful service, wonderful bar menu & top shelf liquor selection & the food is high quality with many new options than a typical Mexican restaurant! Highly recommend & we will be back!
Wow! Lovely decor. Salsa good flavor. I had grilled chicken w/chorizo and it was beyond good. Chicken had wood fire grilled taste, very moist and tender. Husband had fajita quesadilla. Steak had good flavor, good veggies. Rice had nice flavor. My new favorite Mexican restaurant. Priced reasonable
We were traveling from out of town and stopped here. Mexican is a regular staple in our diet and this place was by far the BEST expereince we've ever had. The food had flavor, it was reasonably priced and the atmosphere and staff were great.
I tried the Chili Colorado and husband got the Pork Carnitas, both were fantastic and the Mango Habanero Margaritas were delicious! Our new go to place even though we are 40 minutes away, the best Mexican Restaurant we have found and on our way again!!!
First visit with another couple to celebrate a Birthday! Food, service, and drinks were great! The Tres Leches cake was soo good and was enough for all 4 of us! Our server brought out a sparkler and bubble machine to take pictures for the Birthday Guy! Appreciated!! Will definitely be back !
Remarkably good! Chef & food quality were exceptional. Service was good. Reasonably priced. Hands down the best Mexican restaurant I've ever been to!
My buddies and I try a lot of spots around New Albany/Gahanna area. This is by far one of the best restaurants we've been to. The food is excellent, the pumpkin praline cheesecake was delicious! Service was amazing, and the atmosphere was exceptional.
First time here......and it won't be the last!!!! The atmosphere is unique, fun and complimented withstunning artwork and fabulous music.....feels like being on vacation. Absolutely amazing service, hand mixed margaritas, and the birrira is hands down the absolute best!.....Oh!...and the guac....amazing! If you haven't been here, make plans, you won't be sorry!
Everything I tried was a 10/10! So much flavor, and I’m very picky when it comes to Mexican food because I managed a Mexican kitchen for years. Very clean and pretty inside. I tried Blue Agave recently and it doesn’t even compare to this place!
Best Mexican restaurant in my book. Food is innovative and delicious. We try something new every time we go. Saturday night is a little noisy for us oldsters, but love the deco, food and service
Checked out this new Mexican restaurant and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was super cool with hand painted walls and fun and colorful decor. Even the hallway to the bathrooms was decorated. Our server, Kate was very nice and helpful and even apologized when some items took longer than anticipated. Our margaritas were tasty and unique as and the rice and chicken kids meal was perfect 👌. With any new restaurant some kinks are being worked out but the value, atmosphere, and taste of the food was worth it. Even the frames around the televisions was a nice touch and different. There was authentic Mexican music being played and we got visited by the manger to check on us. I'll be back to enjoy a drink and food at the bar for sure.
This restaurant has a wide and varied menu with a fair amount of seafood and unique items that are not found at most Mexican restaurants like Birria Ramen. The food is consistently good, with good service, and some fun presentations.
The restaurant looks amazing and aesthetically pleasing. The food taste was perfected and the desert was truly exceptional. The reason for me review is because I was highly impressed and this place deserves it! Our server Humberto was awesome and recommended sauce for my burrito. It was wonderful.
Mexican food with a little bit from various regions. The food is excellent and the menu contains dishes not typically found in a traditional Mexican restaurant. The decor is beautiful and the seats are plush. I had the Chimichangas and she had the Pollo Hawaiiano and both were amazing. We also had the Guacamole Con Chicharron, which had an amazing tasting thick sliced pork belly as a side. Highly recommend this place.
The steak in the steak tacos I ordered was cooked to perfection. Drinks were very generous and tasty. The staff were very attentive and super friendly. I'll be coming back every time I'm in the area.
I can confidently say that this is the best Mexican cuisine I've had since being in Juarez itself. The empanadas are half a pound apiece and fluffy, and the birria tacos almost melt in your mouth after the crunch. Incredible food, I will be recommending this spot to everyone that has a craving for authentic Mexican cuisine.
I am OBSESSED with this place. The food was so good. The salsa with the tacos is hot. (Which I loved). If that’s not your thing, just use the salsa that comes with the chips. It’s family run and great prices.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Outstanding Food & Service! El Rey Mexican Restaurant is a gem! From start to finish, our experience was top-notch. The staff is warm, friendly, and makes you feel like family the moment you walk in. For dinner, I had the Chori Pollo, and wow — it was perfection. The grilled chicken was tender and juicy, topped with flavorful chorizo and melted cheese that brought everything together beautifully. Every bite was bursting with flavor, and the portion size was more than generous. Then came dessert — their fried banana masterpiece. Crispy on the outside, perfectly soft inside, served with fresh strawberries, whipped cream, colorful sprinkles, and a drizzle of rich chocolate sauce. It was as beautiful as it was delicious — the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. If you’re looking for authentic flavors, generous portions, and a welcoming atmosphere, El Rey is the place to go. Highly recommend both the Chori Pollo and the fried banana dessert!
I thought we would miss Local Cantina, but El Rey brings all the authentic cuisine with a modern twist that you can handle! This is our new favorite for margs and excellent food. The Oaxaca Mezcalita is gorgeous and delicious, and the molcajete for two was delicious and enough for leftovers. Also...fresh homemade tortillas?! This Texan heart is in love. We will be regulars!

Easily the best mexican restaurant around. Phenomelnal cocktail, friendly staff, delicious food, and amazing atmosphere
Amazing food! I ordered the Taco flight and Castilla de Elate! The food was fast and delicious! Highly recommend this restaurant!
My mom and I put in quite a complicated order and they didn’t bring out the correct dish to the table (more our fault) they corrected it quickly with such kindness and professionalism. Gosh this place is so good and really enjoyed the chicken verde enchiladas. Their service is fantastic and well deserving of a high rating! I’ll be back
We stopped for Sunday lunch and had a great experience. The waitress was very kind and efficient. The manager talked with us recommending an appetizer and the Apple Cider Margarita, which was delicious. The food was great with a variety on the menu. It’s a fun atmosphere!
Ordered the birria taco and the guacamole with chicharron. The guacamole was the best I have had in years. I have never had guacamole with pepita, but it was a nice added touch. I have never had birria taco before, and this was so delicious! Some of the meat was more tender than others, but still delicious. The consomme was very flavorful, that I even dipped my tortilla chips in. The chicharron, I had to reheat in my oven because I wanted it a little more crisp, and I am glad I did as it rendered a lot of grease that I did not need. Always wanted to try, but no need to try again. I will definitely return to try different items. Was greeted as I entered the restaurant. Sidenote: prices are higher if you order carryout online. I did not know until after the fact. Will be calling in my order next time.
One of the best Mexican restaurants Ive ever been to! As a vegetarian I got more options than most places and they weren't all just brand cheese and rice. Everything was perfect, from the waitress who brought out refills without me having to ask, to every dish that hit the table. I don't think I've ever not had one complaint and this place had my jaw dropping when I saw the bill was so cheap! I mean, the pricing is unmatched for the amount of food and quality of food! I will be back and I dare say this is the best Mexican restaurant in Central Ohio.
We tried this place for the first time tonight and we were very impressed! When you walk in the entire place is beautifully decorated and the art work is amazing and unique, the staff was very polite and our food came out quickly. We ordered the chorizo queso, birria pizza & kids taco with rice. Everything was delicious, 10/10 🤩. Not to mention the portions were huge! Even the leftovers were good! We loved this restaurant and will definitely return!

Only thing we didn’t care for were too many flies
We enjoyed our first time at El Rey! Plenty of food options and choices. My husband had Fajita burrito, which was delicious and came out piping hot! My enchiladas were packed with chicken.
The atmosphere was very lively and the drinks were fantastic! I would go here again, for sure.
We love this place; fun, cost effective, very good food, generous portions, fun "lighted" drinks! Lots of good to say! However, it is very difficult to "communicate" sometimes: they don't answer the phone often, when they do we just can't communicate well at all, when we ask for information no one seems to know, and if we do get an answer it is often contradictory to our experience, etc. (again, there is a significant language barrier at times that interferes with communication). That said, it is still a great neighbor hood favorite and we visit a lot!
The food is by far the best in the Columbus area. I don't know if they need more staff or some more training, but we are often seated and have to wait for water and a server. The chip and salsa people are on it though.
We went in for drinks and appetizers. The margaritas were very good. The queso with beans is the best, huge portion. Also got guacamole which was very good, glad I only got a small.

This was our first experience at El Rey in New Albany, Ohio. The restaurants decoration were very colorful and created a calming effect. The lighting is slightly dim so reading the menu could be a challenge. If sitting in a both and over 6ft you might want a table for leg room The food was so fresh and flavorable with several waiters checking on your customer needs. After the main dish, my husband and i had the churros and vanilla ice cream which i highly recommend.
Don’t bother with the house margarita. So so so overly sweet! Ugh!! It was terrible. Tastes artificial. Like Dailey’s mix but worse/. It is pre-made and sitting warm on the bar in a giant 4 gallon plastic jug. To his defense, the bar tender offered me a “taste” before I purchased one. (Like maybe he knew it was bad? LOL) I said no. I mean a margarita is a margarita right?? I didn’t finish it. I ordered a hand made margarita instead. I got the Fresca. It was much better. Very good fresh lime flavor. I think they squeezed a fresh lime into the drink. Still too sweet but very good flavor.
The server had to be new. He brought me the wrong food and when in stated I orders something else he brought back the same food. Margarita was good. Guacamole was not.
Great food, horrible service. The three times I’ve gone to El Rey I sat at the bar, and each visit the customer service got worse and worse. I’ll describe just my last visit since describing every visit would be a novel. I sat at the bar and there were six other customers - not even half full. The three bar staff walked around the bar and every one of them looked right at me and ignored me. For ten minutes. Not even a “hello.” I asked the customers on either side of me and they said their service was also slow. I was about to walk out when a bartender finally came over. I ordered a drink and asked for a menu. He made the drink then instead of handing me a menu, made three more drinks. I’ve now been there 20 minutes before even getting a menu in my hands. I ordered, I ate, and not once did the bartender follow up or give me a refill on my drink. After I was done I sat there with an empty plate in front of me for 15 minutes. Again the bar staff was mulling around and looking right at me and my empty plate. Not one person grabbed it. Not one person asked how my food was. Not one person asked if I wanted anything else. Finally I had to rudely wave my hands to get someone’s attention, but they couldn’t help. He barely acknowledged anything I said then went in the back for some reason - I never saw him again. And what’s weird is that he didn’t even take my plate! After another five minute wait and waving to get attention, I got the check, and when I left the empty plate was still sitting there!!! To recap, I went to half full bar with three people working behind it, and was there over an hour and a half with one drink and two interactions with my server. It’s clear the bar staff are not customer oriented. They make fancy drinks that take them two minutes apiece and have glow lights in them. Gimmicks instead of quality service. I won’t be going back for dine in. Everything will be to go now. They need to train their staff in BASIC customer service if they want to succeed.
Overall I give it a 3.5 stars because of price and flavor. I have to say having Taco Tuesday specials at Local are missed!! The margarita flight was an experience...the flavors...seemed like mostly sugar and no alcohol, but it was pretty!! I had the taco flight which was pretty good, seafood tacos weren't too good according others at my table. Portion sizes are large. They have an extensive menu with too many choices if that is a thing!! The atmosphere was very nice though and the chairs were comfy!!
First time - ordered Enchiladas Verdes. Had to send it back as every one of the tortillas was refrigerator cold. Waiter was attentive, second dish was ok, but everything just mashed together. I was charged $3.75 extra because I asked for a spicier salsa. Was not told about the upcharge and the waiter just blew it off when I questioned it. Doubt I will return.
I didn't even know this new place was here. Thought I'd order dinner to go and give it a shot. Lots of customers inside-Good sign. Cool decor. Nice atmosphere. Ordered the Chorri Pollo, Castillo De Elote & Tres Leches Cake. Portions were BIG-enough to share between 2 people. Chori Pollo: Beans, rice, & onion/pepper mix were all great. Didn't realize til I got home that my tortillas were forgotten, but not the end of the world. I WAS really disappointed to see though, that the chicken is not real, actual chicken, but the processed kind that has the grill marks on them already. Like the frozen, bagged grilled chicken patties you can find at the grocery store? Just some constructive criticism: I know real chicken is more expensive & more dangerous in a busy kitchen with strict temps & cross contamination risk, but man...these processed chicken patties with the perfectly painted on grill stripes reminds me so much of hospital cafeteria food. No amount of seasoning can make them taste like actual, authentic chicken. Chori Pollo is my go to at any Mexican restaurant. At most of them, I can taste the char grilled flavor, like they were actually cooked on an open flame/grill style oven. The grilled chicken patties just taste spongey & flavorless. 😔 There's no mistaking them for real chicken. I'll try the tacos next time & skip the chicken menu. The cake was huge and delicious. Fresh, airy & delicate, but rich. Very good. The chips & salsa were also great. Fresh/warm chips and mild salsa with a nice flavor. I just wouldn't recommend the chicken at all.
The salsa is good! The guac is pretty good. The entrees are not great. Nothing we ordered, was what we expected. Chicken fajitas, chimichanga, burrito and tacos. We did not need boxes to bring food home. Drinks from the bar were extremely slow to be delivered but soda refills were quick. Sadly, we won’t go back. We were hoping that New Albany added a great place to dine, but it did not

We came here tonight for the 2nd time & sadly, we will not be back. Our first experience last weekend was amazing w/ great service & excellent food. I wasn’t happy about being charged $1.50 for a lime on my margarita glass, which I didn’t ask for. We were also charged $3.50 for extra pico, when my husband’s fajitas barely came with any at all. We were excited to have a new restaurant in New Albany & the food/service was overall great the 1st time, so we brought our kids back this evening. Unfortunately, this experience was absolutely terrible & we couldn’t wait to leave. We arrived by 4:10p (not busy), didn’t have a waitress come to our table until 4:23p to even take our drink order. We asked for a side of guacamole & queso with our chips upon ordering drinks. Our drinks took forever & we had to ask two additional times for our guacamole & queso, finally receiving queso, never received the guacamole. We rarely saw our waitress throughout our meal & had to flag down other staff to ask for her. When our food arrived, it was served at separate times, so we did not enjoy our meals together (7 people), by this time the restaurant was very busy. My son & his girlfriend both ordered steak tacos which came at the same time w/ rice on the plates, refried beans on a separate plate. Approximately 5mins after receiving their plates, a waiter came by & asked my son if he ordered both the beans & rice because only one came with the meal (beans OR rice). My son, nor his girlfriend, were ever asked if they wanted one or the other & weren’t aware there was an option upon ordering. The guy continued asking if they wanted both because he would have to charge extra, ended up taking both plates of beans from our table, almost pushing to take the plates or be charged extra after they had already been on the table for over 5mins at this point. As soon as that happened, we were ready to leave, how unprofessional & gross. Did they take these plates to serve to someone else after sitting on our table & why was he pushing so much about two stupid plates of refried beans that he’d have to charge extra for, even though we were never asked for told this from the start of the order. It took over 10mins to find our waitress & my husband to go to the other side of the restaurant to ask for our check. After finally receiving our check, I was in the process of pulling my card from my wallet & asked her to wait but she walked off anyway. It took another 7mins to flag her down just to take the card to finalize the bill. Overall, terrible experience the second time with extremely slow waitress & no follow-up throughout our dinner. The final issue was having the refused beans being taken back & how it was done. I certainly hope I wasn’t eating food that was on someone else’s table then served to me. We were hopeful this would be a new spot for our family to enjoy eating out in New Albany, but what a disappointment.
The food is too spicy. Everything has the same spice and taste. Very small taco's and there is a surcharge on the bill for each meal you order, and the price is different when paying cash. NO taco Tuesday specials. Would not recommend.
Went in today for a late lunch and sat at the bar . The server got us drinks and then disappeared for quite awhile . You could hear staff laughing snd chatting in the kitchen . There were only 3 of us in the restaurant. If you are the manager reading this I encourage you to be present when open to see what is going on . The food is very good but if the service is bad again we won’t be back .
Ordered fajitas I got plenty of shrimp. The veggies were way Overdone in the tiniest dribble of sour cream you’ve ever seen and the tiny bit of cut up fresh tomato salsa for the fajita was so little. It was ridiculous. I won’t be going back and the margarita was like punch.
Massively inconsistent with their food quality and taste. Even after ordering the same thing every other week, it's never the same taste. Crappy quesadilla and soggy enchiladas. They charged me $4 extra for swapping cheese sauce with chipotle sauce! Shady and unpredictable pricing for the same order one week apart. Not giving them another chance again
They charge you incorrectly. Our food was mostly okay. They served my daughter a very old overcooked hot dog. They then brought one out that was still cold. The waiter was nice and offered to replace it with something else. We declined and they did not charge us for the hot dog. My son's meal came out incorrectly but they fixed it pretty quickly. The kids taco meal ended up costing us $17. We did add 2 additional tacos and expected to pay for them, but they rang it up as a create your own combo meal. After we asked about it they told us it was correct. We were charged differently a few days prior but okay. When the check came, they hoover over you as you get your card out. After they ran the card we realized the check calculated wrong. The signs and check state you get a 3.5% discount if you pay cash. This is inaccurate as the menu prices are up charged by 4% if you pay by card. Except for our $1 charge for sour cream which they up charged by 56%. There is no discount. It simply charges you more and not the correct amount. When I spoke to the manager, he stated he would have to speak to the programmer but there was no offer to correct the wrong charges. The signage needs updated stating there is a 4% up charge from the menu if you do not pay cash. There is no discount if you do pay cash. Paying cash is the only way to pay the prices reflected in the menu. I will be reporting the issue to the BBB as this restaurant has been charging customers incorrectly.
Ordered food online. They handed out my food to someone random and refused to make my order again.
When we asked for a gluten free menu or if anything was gluten free, they seemed very confused and said nothing was gluten free so my mom couldn’t eat anything. The quesadilla barely had any cheese so was just falling apart and all the sauces on the enchiladas tastes very similar. Overall was very disappointed with our dinner
I feel bad for the people who opened this restaurant. They missed the demographics of New Albany. This place looks like they bought all the fake flowers at JoAnn’s store closing. The decor is just, well, sad. The colors, tiles and furniture clash in every direction. I first ordered a skinny margarita and they didn’t seem to know what it was. It tasted like orange juice and tequila. I sent it back. The house margarita is so sweet it hurt my teeth. Oh the better side, the octopus was delicious. Regardless, I won’t be back. I will continue to long for the days of Mia Cucina.
