City Beer Hall Albany Reviews
My boss recommended this place to me and it didn't disappoint. I had a great dinner, and the list of beer they had was extensive. Nice atmosphere and good location downtown.
We had our rehearsal dinner here and the food was wonderful, staff and bartenders very helpful.
Good food, great staff! I had the garbage bowl it was awesome! 😎
We recently hosted our welcome reception and after-party ahead of our wedding, and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. Kurtis was instrumental in helping us craft the perfect menu and drink options, ensuring everything was exactly how we envisioned it. The upstairs was beautifully prepared, and the bartenders and servers were fantastic. Most importantly, the food was absolutely delicious—our guests couldn’t stop raving about it. The service for both nights was superb, and Kurtis and his team made these events truly unforgettable for us. Big kudos to the entire team for making our celebration so special!
In from Galveston TX for a wedding. Pre-wedding Happy Hour was great. Food was good and outstanding service from Joel at the bar.
Great beer and food. Have been here before and really liked it so we came back again while in town this year. Always have an excellent variety of draft beers and their food is pretty great, too. Our server (I think her name was Adriana) was friendly and helpful - really good service! They have specials that are to my liking. For example on Thursdays - buy one of their sandwiches and get a free beer…that’s a win-win. Highly recommend if you’re in the Albany area.
Salmon Benedict at City Beer Hall Have you ever put food in your mouth and heard Angels sing? Each passing bite bringing another small tear to your eye. Every taste is a brief moment of bliss that makes you forget about all your problems. Every aroma makes you feel for a second that everything is going to be Okay. This, my friend, is not only food. It is Art.
Man oh man, I'm not sure how google finds these places but I'm surely glad they did. This place rocks. It's super close to the convention center, really homey but professional. The beers on tap are top notch the mixed drink are strong and the atmosphere amazing. Do you self a favor and try this place.... of and the French Onion poutine is the closest thing to Canada I've had...... Try it.
We were in Albany for one night, and The City Beer Hall had been recommended to us by a friend. It looks like a beer hall, casual atmosphere with friendly service, long wooden benches, and a free small cheese pizza with every $5+ beer (good selection if beers). The menu, though, is what far exceeded or expectations and went well beyon typical beer hall fare. Definitely recommend checking it out if you find yourself in Albany
Literally loved every single element, the food came quickly but was still great quality. The bartenders were friendly and most definitely sincere with the friendliness. Now onto the more subtle elements of the bar industry is the bar backs and the security guards; the bar backs were quick to make sure the bar and dining area was of the best quality for the patrons and just as friendly as the bar tenders themselves, and the security guards; took their jobs seriously, made me feel safe, and also comfortable in this bar setting. 10/10 will definitely dine here again!!
Stopped in to meet a colleague for a drink and a bite to eat. I sincerely wish I had more time to enjoy this establishment. The smash burger was delicious and the menu is a la carte. I ordered the juice bomb IPA. Fortunately Monday nights was half off burger night and so glad I splurged with the one I got as it was delicious. The ambiance was really cool and was within walking distance from the renaissance hotel.
Quick trip to Albany & this was a couple of block from my hotel. Ate at the bar - huge burger with excellent bacon. & fries. Lots of young professionals and college kids. A TV monitor displayed a long list of exotic-sounding beers. I got wine but wish I had tried a beer instead. Fun, lively atmosphere and I felt very comfortable dining there as a solo traveler.
Another hit for Albany, so many places to eat and drink beer. The City Beer Hall has a very speak easy atmosphere. Even with the live music we enjoyed with our brunch. A very lengthy list of beers from local and far places. Brunch was very tasty and I recommend the Spicy Scramble. While not the heat I would have liked, it’s enough for most. My coworker got the Steak and Eggs and there was enough food on his plate for two. We walked in but there seemed to be plenty of parking. Prices are about what one would expect. Another great place to visit again. Take my five stars!
Crowded! Got a table about 10min after our reservation but it was upstairs and freezing! Food was decent, I got mushroom ragu and hubby got smash burger (but they what they gave him he thought wasnt very smashed, and she came a few minutes later and said oops they gave you the wrong burger! But it was too late. They didn't take it off or anything).
Absolutely amazing service. Carrie is the best bartender and will give the best recommendations on their rotating menu.
Fun selection of beers. The chicken sandwich was well crafted and the fries were not too greasy. Chill service
My type of place! Historic venue right in the heart of downtown Albany. I LOVE the historic structure and all the historic photography and art inside. Easy to walk to from the nearby hotels. I had the raspberry sour on the tap. Extraordinary. Good selection of beers. Food menu featured a good mix too. Recommend for travelers and locals alike.
We arrived in Albany on a Sunday to find that restaurants in town were generally closed, however we discovered The City Beer Hall and fell in love with it immediately. In fact we had such a wonderful meal we returned on the following evening as well. The menu was perfect and catered for my wife who was gluten intolerant with a number of offerings on the menu. Our choice of drinks was well catered for as well. We loved the burgers and the peach salad we shared was perfect. We can highly recommend this wonderful that is housed in the historic old telephone company building. It was such a friendly space to dine. Most importantly for us when we are going out is the service and care of the wait staff. We were absolutely blessed by having the gorgeous Katrina, look after us on both nights we visited for dinner. In fact it was her warmth and hospitality that made our return so easy. Katrina explained the options available and too, extra care to make sure my wife’s gluten allergy was understood in the kitchen. We loved both our visits and would return in a heart beat should we ever revisit Albany.
What an amazing place. I figured out the cider I could drink, wasn't labeled but fine, we have phones. Gluten free bun was great, great burger. That the guy who served me made it a point to make sure I didn't have the chips due to cross contamination was amazing. Every little bit helps. But this says nothing of just how cool it looks inside. You'd think it was a reclaimed mill or maybe a bar that's been there for centuries. If you are in the area, you should try it. My gf had a normal chicken sandwich and she was in love with, the chips, and definitely the beer she had. Please come here, its great
5 stars. This place is awesome. I was visiting Albany for 2 days for work, and heard about this place from my driver on the way into the city. I am so glad I stopped in. Friendly staff, cool building. I ordered a draft beer and received a ticket to get a "free pizza". The bartender told me I could take it to the kitchen to redeem it for a personal pizza. So, I walk around the corner at her direction into the actual kitchen, and the kitchen staff greets me welcomely as I enter into their doors thinking I am walking somewhere I shouldn't be as a customer. They took my ticket and told me to come back in a few minutes to pick up my pizza. Kitchen staff was all very nice as well. Came back a few minutes later, and picked it up. The pizza was thin crust, just cheese (made on a tortilla? I think) and absolutely amazing. The perfect delicious tiny pizza, and free with a $7 draft beer. Does life actually get any better than this? I think not. Can't wait to come back here!
I couldn't have chosen a better place to come for brunch in this neighborhood. I got an apple cider mimosa and the salmon benedict without red onions. It's cooked to perfection! Seriously, look how perfect the poached eggs are in my pictures. Also, the service is fantastic. I got my food and drinks in a timely manner. I'll definitely be coming back here in the near future.
Saturday evening, I noticed the lights a few blocks away when we had an hour to kill before a haunted walking tour. Pleasantly surprised at the classic details of the wood trim, high ceilings & warm cabin style lighting. Great beer choices & highly recommend the corn chorizo and I also liked the fresh cut fries as an evening snack. Kind staff made it wonderful for that hour. 4 beers and 2 apps = $50 Highly recommended & looking to return for the full meal at some point, tho a bit pricey.
What a DIVINE brunch experience this past Sunday. Top notch service, quick seating, phenomenal live Jazz music playing (seriously, such a pleasant touch) and a Mimosa party really made my day. The Garbage Bowl was to-die-for. The panacotta for dessert was so fun-never had that in the past. Really quite the amazing experience. I can't wait to go back for date night!
The pizza there is amazing as well as the cocktails. Totally recommend this place if you are in town.
We went for brunch—you need reservations. This place is outstanding. There was a Prince themed brunch with Prince music and trivia going on. Prizes being awarded. Lots of fun here. The FOOD IS AMAZING. You have to have the waffles. Our group had a mix of vegan and vegetarian—City Beer Hall had great options for everyone. Drinks were Prince themed and food menu special Prince themed. Very unique and cool fun place to go. The location is great-the building is amazing to see. Parking very close and parking decks within one block. We HIGHLY RECOMMEND this place to everyone. Its a must go.
Celebrated a surprise 30th birthday here with a group of 25+! The manager Kurtis was very accommodating and responsive with emails for planning. We had a large table on the first floor and easy access to the bar. The staff was helpful the day of and I would recommend this place to all! We loved the hot honey pizza and salads. Thanks!
City Beer Hall in Albany was a great spot for a night out with our party of six. We were seated at a large, comfortable table that easily fit everyone. The food was solid across the board—we ordered pizza, burgers, chicken sandwiches, and a variety of appetizers, and everything came out fresh and well prepared. Drinks were excellent, thanks to Carrie at the bar, who clearly knows her craft. The Family Feud game added a fun, interactive element that kept all six of us entertained. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, especially with the fireplace tucked off to the side. A fun, relaxed place to gather with friends or family.
Let me tell you...SUPERB pizza! I apologize for not thinking to take a before pic, but was good enough I wanted to take a minute (while I'm still here) to review their pizza. I'm at City Beer Hall and ordered BluPizza's pepperoni pie. This crust is better than NYC!! I can tell real semolina is used and boy does it make a difference. Give it a try!! They have a Gorgonzola pie and I'm sorry now we didn't try that. But next time for sure! 5 Star pizza! Update: went back 12-17-25 and did NOT disappoint!! Still fabulous food, Great beer selection on tap and just overall great vibe. Super close to MVP Arena too!
Went to here after an afternoon of touring the New York Museum and the Corning observation tower. I wish I took pictures of our food, but it was so good I forgot. Servings were enormous! My husband ordered the Brussels & Apple salad with grilled chicken. It was huge- but so good he forced himself to eat it all. I ordered the Kale Caesar with crispy chicken which was equally as big, and just as good. Daughter, my picky eater, got the cheese pizza and loved it. We also got the mozzarella triangles, great, and served with what I think was grape jelly? And now I will always have to eat them that way… also got the fried pickles which were good too. If we are ever back in Albany definitely going to stop here again.
Just wanted to thank The City Beer Hall for helping make my daughter’s confirmation celebration so special! Kurtis, the event coordinator, was fantastic—responsive, detail-oriented, and made sure everything was communicated perfectly to the team. Katrina’s service was absolutely outstanding—she was a total mind reader! She greeted us with a big, warm smile and made my daughter feel extra special by bringing her very own carafe of lemonade. Katrina was attentive, professional, thoughtful, and personable throughout the night. Everything came out right on time. The pizzas were delicious (the hot honey was the favorite!), and both the Blu Hall and Caesar kale salads were fresh and flavorful. She even brought plenty of to-go containers and bags, which made cleanup a breeze. My family loved ending the evening by the fire with coffee and cake—it was the perfect way to wrap up a wonderful night. We had such a relaxing time and couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out. Thank you again for a memorable evening—we’ll definitely be back!
They no longer offer free pizza with beer, but their pizzas are amazing. Highly recommend the Hot Honey pizza. Calzone (not pictured) was also delicious. They have a great selection of drinks. Fun place to hang out with friends, board games available. Excellent service by our waitress.

Good beer, great food. The garbage plate was really yummy. Solid service and vibe. I would dine here again.
The food was GREAT!! My absolute favorite was the hot honey pizza. The drinks are okay just really strong. Great place for bigger groups and friends!
Very fun place, enjoyed my evening. Live music, bar pizza, cold beer--what more can you ask for?
Delicious burgers at a reasonable price for lunch. Also great happy hour deals - pizza and brews.

Nice atmosphere. Food was out promptly. Good selection of beer. Reasonably priced. Would definitely return when I return to Albany.
Knowledgeable and friendly bartender/beverage director. Food was amazing. I had the fried chicken sandwich that was fantastic and a side of fries that was seriously humongous.

Here's a review for the City Beer Hall: **City Beer Hall: Brunch with a Twist** The City Beer Hall offers a unique brunch experience that blends classic comfort food with a touch of unexpected. The chicken and waffle was a standout, with a perfectly crispy exterior and juicy interior. While the chicken could have benefited from a bit more seasoning, the waffle's sweetness was a delightful contrast. A drizzle of hot honey would have elevated the dish even further. The flexibility to choose a side or a beer with your meal is a nice touch, catering to various preferences. Overall, the City Beer Hall provides a satisfying brunch option with a casual, beer-hall atmosphere.
Located adjacent to the MVP Arena and behind the Albany Capital Center, The City Beer Hall has all the trappings of a classic brasserie. The building looks like old law offices and is extremely attractive edifice. The interior has a classic bar room feel, dark, wooden and a long bar but also has a expansive rear patio (which is were we sat). The menu options provide typical upscale bar-bistro food like burgers, fries but also cauliflower steak and a hummus board...easy-to-eat casual food options. Obviously for a "beer hall" they have an extensive beer menu as well as some eclectic cocktail options. For our meal we had the Smash Burger (excellent...one of my favorite burgers and was extremely popular...I spotted 4 other services on other tables in sight) and the Beer Hall Salad (good, as you'd expect but nothing over the top). The dessert option was disappointingly only a single ice cream option so we passed. Service was friendly and attentive which can be hard in such a large restaurant. Overall a good place to good if you are a large group looking to have fun and a lot of beer with some friends. Enjoy!
I’ve been on a quest for great fried chicken sandwiches that don’t come from chain restaurants. My wife, my brother and his wife went to City Beer Hall, and by gum, I found one! This sandwich had chicken so crispy that it actually shattered noisily as you but into it. The chicken meat was moist and tender too. The sandwich was impressively tall. The vibe of this place is informal but nice. Attentive service was a big plus. We were there at 6:30, before the real crowd shows up, but as time went by things got a little noisy which is my only slight discomfort there. I don’t like to yell in a restaurant. But we’ll go back for 1/2 price hamburgers on Monday! Highly recommended
When traveling to Albany and staying at the Renaissance Hotel, this pub is a nice place to meet friends for a drink. The burgers and small pizzas were a good compliment (three stars) for the plentiful assortment of delicious beers (five stars). The servers are attentive and patient with people unfamiliar with the extensive beer menu.
Excellent mussels, mediocre beef satay. Great atmosphere where a bar meshed with a beer garden. Let me elaborate. The mussels with chorizo plate was superb. Lots of food (but not overly filling) with amazing layers of flavors - spicy chorizo; big, meaty mussels and excellent sauce that begs for a lot more bread. I did ask for more to dip in the remaining sauce. The satay was so-so. The peanut sauce saved it, but it was way too chewy and over-salted. And the ends were burnt. I wish I had said I want it medium-rare. As expected, the beer selection is huge and my wheat ale was excellent. Service was spot on - not too pushy, yet attentive, and the food came out fast and hot. This was a Wednesday - trivia night, and while I didn't play, I noticed that the questions were good and quirky. I'd definitely come back, but no satay for me next time. Good thing there are other great-sounding items on the menu.
Was in town overnight for business... looked interesting from outside. Huge beer selection, heavy on local and regional Breweries. I ordered buffalo wings, as far as that goes, excellent.
Used to come here for late night beers, but I had my first dining experience and it was pretty great. My wife saw some video posted by Saucy Suraci saying the pizza was fire and some of be pasta was good. Turns out, the dining area is spacious and has a dope all wood vibe. Pizza was on point and pasta was pretty good but that garlic confit type dip was amazin
A really great experience, large bar/beer garden area, Saturday/Sunday brunch, large craft beer selection, and tasty eats! Complimentary first selected drink, ie. Mimosa, Bloody Mary, and more. Free pizza ticket with drink purchase (we will have to return to redeem:) All of our food was delicious, but our server didn't visit as much as we needed for refills.
Ordered a drink at the bar, paid cash, was not given the correct change by the bartender. Did not notice until after I left a tip which is what I normally do. The waitress was very nice, food was ok, but do not trust the bartenders.
We came for lunch so it wasn't that busy. S.O. has Celiac. Waiter wasn't incredibly knowledgable about what drinks were safe, but the cook nailed the food. His burger was brought out without chips (which I could have and were some of the best I've eaten) because they do not have a dedicated fryer. Great food and atmosphere. Everyone was very nice.
I really like what they've done with the food at CBH. Blue Pizza running their kitchen and putting out great wood-fired pizza, among other things (like some CBH classics) was a great choice. I also enjoy the updates they've made to their cocktail menu, including the more than handful of NA options. This summer they've been doing all you can eat focaccia Fridays, $5 per person for a 90 minute limit -- the focaccia is delicious and comes in very generous serving sizes. My "all you can eat" usually stops at the second slice. Special shout out to their scratch made mozzarella sticks which have a great crispy breading and are served with Melba, which is the only way to eat a mozz stick IMO. I love having CBH in walking distance and have been really impressed with the changes they've been making, kudos to Kurtis and his team!
Absolutely love the vibe here—welcoming, lively, and laid-back with incredibly friendly service. The food is top tier. The hot honey pizza is mouthwatering, a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. I also really enjoyed the veggie burger—flavorful and fresh, though a bit on the smaller side, so I’d recommend pairing it with a side dish or splitting a pizza too. Prices are fair, and while the drinks are pretty standard, they do the job. If you’re stuck on where to eat last minute, this spot is a reliable and satisfying choice. Highly recommend!
A new adventure in brunching!!! Me and the girls were a little hungry so this was our choice. Location is in a weird position so make sure u are a savvy parker if driving. Was not busy when we went which is always a plus for us. Decided to sit outside since it was warm but not blazing hot. Nice sized patio with gracious seating. There were large blocks to play with as well as corn hole making this family friendly as well as a have fun with ya friends place. With a brunch entree you receive a complimentary Bloody Mary or Mimosa. The Bloody was HOUSE MADE which I could tell based on the spice level (one can tell horseradish over hot sauce!) and it was GOOD. So good I had two!! My daughter ordered I believe a peach bellini or a mimosa with pineapple juice but did get her complimentary one as well. Grand Princess was graced with a kiddie version - the first one the OJ was not good however the wonderful waitress we had fixed it right up for her and she enjoyed it! For foods my daughter got the waffle breakfast sammy - BEC on a waffle drizzled (?) with some kind of syrup that was supposed to be a bit spicy I believe. She like it despite it being a little too sweet for her. I had an omelet that was very good. The bacon and sausage inside were tasty - was not a fan of these cheese. We ordered our meals as they were listed so we could try with no modifications. Grand Princess had a waffle with a side of bacon and was very happy. Service was great. Atmosphere was a vibe. A place that we will return to.
Stop by after attending a convention nearby, less than 5 minute walk. Saw a great menu items for beer options. They were busy for a Friday early afternoon. Was seated immediately. Super friendly, knowledgeable wait staff. They don't offer flights but did offer us small samples before ordering. Nice brunch menu with great options. Would recommend and come back next time when we're in town.

Went at 12pm on a Monday. Food and service were questionable but it’s an interesting spot. The bartender and server were nice enough but our order was initially served incorrectly (i.e. we omitted the onion ramoulade and spicy pickles on the burger but we were served both; we also were missing a side order of fries). We were a small party and there was only one other occupied table in the restaurant so I’m not sure how this happened. As for the food itself, the chicken was grilled to death, the fries were very salty, and the salad was swimming in dressing. I think this place has the right ideas but the wrong executions.
Let me start by saying the food here is really good. But here’s my gripe: no ranch dressing. None. Not for the salad, not for the pizza, not even for the wings. When I asked, the server just politely said, “We don’t carry ranch.” No explanation. Just no ranch. You’re serving three ranch-heavy hitters—salads, pizza, and buffalo wings. All three are prime candidates for a dip of ranch. It’s not even a niche condiment. This isn’t me asking for some obscure artisan sauce; it’s ranch. The cornerstone of casual dining condiments. The great unifier of American flavor. I still cleared my plate. I still enjoyed every bite. But I couldn’t help feeling like something essential was missing. Would I come back? Absolutely. But I’ll be discreetly packing a travel-sized bottle of ranch next time. You’ve been warned.
We stood outside a little past 11 am which annoyed me because it was cold. Once we got in the wait wasn't too long. About 20-30 min before we were seated, had mimosas to pass the time. The Dj was trash. So much more to Biggie than 4-5 songs. It was an era for Bad Boy records, so many other songs couildve been played. Once seated they could've had bread or something while we waited on our food. The shrimp and grits portion was small for my taste. The grits were thicker than I'd like as well. It came with sunny side up eggs but I had nothing to sop up the egg once I broke the yolks. Some potatoes or toast would've done the trick though. My friend had the steak and eggs and the steak was HUGE! The waitress was really sweet and attentive. Unfortunately, I left still hungry. Hopefully they can fine tune these few things and it would be great!
While the servers are nice, the service itself is super SLOW! This was my second time here and the first time, I had to leave because it took a long time just to get my drink. This time, we ordered 3 medium burgers and they all came overly done 😒 after taking forever to come out. The pizza was good though

Very disappointed in the new menu. After I proclaimed the Beer Hall a gem, they ditched the innovative menu and went... bleh. Try as they might to hype the pizzas, they just aren't good. Remaining sandwiches and burgers are average at best. Very disappointing. Beer selection is still good, and service has been solid, but other than being a convenient location for MVP Arena, this place isn't worth going out of your way for.
TLDR: very good food, very poor service. we also saw a mouse in the dining room and nothing was done. a friend and i came by here earlier last week for some dinner and drinks. i will say, dinner and drinks were very good, but pricey. i paid $50 for pasta and two drinks. however, the service was a mess. she seemed nice, but never checked back on us until she said she was leaving and we had to cash out. we had no utensils given to us. i had to get up and find her to get my friend ketchup. i’ve been a server for a couple years and felt like this was not the experience the price point entailed. after dinner we hung out to finish our drinks. we saw a MOUSE, inches away from our feet. i alerted the bartender who then had me look for the mouse. he said that he would get the line cook (??) and came back a minute later saying the line cook didn’t speak english and sort of shrugged it off. no apologizes or anything. i’m not looking for a free meal, but that just felt dismissive. at no point was a manager alerted or did anyone do anything to take care of the problem. we left with a bad taste in our mouths about this place, which is a shame because it’s a very cute in there. but there are lots of other restaurants with better service and no wild life experiences for a quarter of the price. do better!!
Food was good but the service was absolutely horrible!! My mom and I came out of town on 12/17 around 4:30 pm the bar tender wouldn’t even acknowledge us at all very rude no smile nothing. Blue sweater brown hair and bangs. Maybe shouldn’t be in customer service if you’re going to be RUDE. We will never be back.
They cancelled my reservation 40 minutes before seating and didn't call me. Showed up to the bar and they told me wait was 90 minutes. Terrible job as I wasted money on cab fare to go there.

Stay away!!!!Wish I can write less than 1 star. Came from Boston for a show and thought it was going to be a perfect night. Ran out of beer, waited over 45 mins without even taking our order and th…
This bar is a joke. They do not enforce COVID regulations. waited for an hour and 45 min to get cut in line by under age kids. The drunk bouncer went up to a random man dancing with his wife and ki…
Very weird and disappointing experience. We walked in at 8:30 on a Saturday night. The service was non existent. No one sat us, so we sat ourselves. After 15 minutes of sitting there with no one acknowledging us, we had to flag down a waitress who directed us to the bar. We then stood at the bar for 10 more minutes waiting to order while the staff ignored us. It would have been understandable if the tavern was crowded. However, there was maybe 20 people in the tavern. The staff was very weird and unfriendly. It almost seemed like they were on something. We ultimately closed our tab and just left. Very bad experience and ruined our night out. I would not recommend this place. I will never go back.
Far from a hall of beer. Staff is more interested in their appearance than service. Overpriced lackluster food. Free pizza tickets that no one explains and you get treated like you're an idiot when you ask. But boy was I glad to see that the pizza came straight from the local jail house kitchen. Yum! Oh, don't worry about the broken glass.
