Mr. Pio Pio Albany Reviews
A place this good in Albany should be considered a landmark. But considering the choices around town, one would have to assume they the general public is clueless and have been conditioned w/ a canned is homecooked theme. Try the chicken or talapia dish... Your welcome...
Ive been eating here for 11 yrs this is the best food upstate Ny.. I rather eat here than any other resturant. They welcome you like family love there customer service #10 is what to order the churassaco omg Im craving it right now.. Pio Pio im on my way😍😍😍
The food was Excellent .Im from nyc so when i go out the city its hard to find good food .But the place was very clean and consumer service really good too.
I have been coming here since they opened. Moved from Albany. Been gone for years. Came to visit recently and the food is still pretty good.
Amazing South American food. Flavours from different countries. Wakes up your taste buds. A must try place worth every penny.
The food was great. Rice and beans were so good. The flan desert was the best. Will be back..
Great food, great service it’s my favorite
The food is awesome. Good service and prompt too. Food was hot getting to the table.
Been a favorite of mine for years! Delicious food everything is good and it’s always fresh.
OMG Don't think twice just go there already!!!! AMAZING food I could not stop praising the food the whooole time. Will definitely return.
I've had a lot of Colombian / Ecuadorian food in a lot of good places, and let me say, this place ranks right there with the very best! I would recommend the Carne Guisada, the Arroz con Pollo, and the Ceviche de Camarones. Additional brownie points for the Diego Maradona and Boca Juniors posters.
Amazing services! Great tasty food. Remind me of HOME food. Will go there again. Thank you for your services.
The fried Red Snapper was cooked to perfection. The wait was well worth the perfection. The service wasn't fast, but it wasn't slower either. If you know the cuisine you will enjoy the seasonings with spices, even more because you can taste how authentic it is. They cook the whole fish in a frying pan and you can taste the freshness. This is close to the Escovitch Fish is a classic Jamaican dish that eating. I've officially become an expert at maneuvering around those tiny fish bones. Amazing food and amazingly consistent.
Food is amazing! Wish they had a bigger dining area. Service is a little slow but it’s because they aren’t thawing out precooked food.
Always brings back memories of my college years. The food is still homemade style! First time I tried Ecuadorian food was here and I still like their dishes.
Truly delicious food, no-frills place. Great selection of drinks (Mexican soda, smoothies, etc). Parking may be a pain, but it is worth the effort. Only wish they had a wider selection of sauces (do try their salsa picante!).
Lately, they've been unable to source lengua, so I have not been there. But their Arroz con pollo is my second favorite dish there. Inexpensive, large portion sizes, and delicious.
They have the best arroz con pollo in the city made with perfectly seasoned chicken, so good I always order 2.
Wonderful food. If you order over the phone or online expect a wait. The food is made to order but it is so worth it. I am in love with their flan, this place is really a gem in albany
The best chicken dish around. The server is friendly. It's more of a take out restaurant but there are some tables. It's clean and the food is really good.
Best Spanish restaurant in town... the food is outstanding... large feeling servings... the pricing is moderately high but with it... Their lemon shrimp is something to write about.. very flavorful but not overpowering.. definitely worth a stop in
Again the food keeps you coming back for more try the fresh fruit shake Mango is one of my favorites it can be made with milk or juice one of my go back to dishes is the shrimp stew (try the hot version) it come with white rice & tostones you can hear them in the pounding it out.the stew has fresh tomatoes & onion with fresh Cilantro It's the bomb
Place isn't great to sit at, but the food is 11/10; used to grab a plate on my walk home from Albany High, it's perfect just like that.
Always great one of my regular places. I will try to remember to snap pictures next time I visit. Highly recommend.
Love this place it's been my favorite for many years I love their chicharron and their beans and rice 🥰 had a few times where it took hours to deliver to us and a couple fatty chichis lol but it's been many years now though that I've been ordering from them and it only happened a couple times so i still love them! Delicious food always 🤗
The service was friendly and helpful and the food was excellent. I had the Camarones Pio Pio and my husband had the Pollo pio pio and both were excellent. The jugo de maracuya and guanabana were also both very yummy.
Ist time at location ordered takeout.... Took them about 30 minutes to get shrimp with rice out.... Food was amazingly good will definitely revisit and recommend....(Noticed you can order online) HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!! They were super busy when I visited (deliveries, dine-ins'). Was pretty stunned to here that they closed at 10pm considering they are in a prime location surrounded by tons of college kids who love to party till sunrise.
One of the best Colombian food I’ve had in a while. This is the best take out food all around Albany with the best prices. The food served here made me feel right back at home. Each order gives you a good amount of food to fill you up for the day!
I LOVE this place. Everything they make tastes like authentic home cooking. My go to is the arroz con pollo. The shrimp and rice is similar same rice..the chicken is just replaced with shrimp and it is good as well. The portions are big which i love because you can have left overs. The smoothies they make are really good and the red sauce they provide is really hot (plus). I've had the salmon served with white rice and it was flavorful. Everyone I introduce this place to loves it. I usually order but sitting at the place isnt so bad either if they have space because the place is small. I relocated and miss this place so much. Next time I am in town I will definitely stop by to enjoy the delicious cuisine.
The flavors are delicious. I visit them several times a year. I've never had a bad meal. The staff are all very kind and friendly.
Dang, this place is good! Started off with a fresh juice, then appetizers and our entrees, and everything was fresh, hot, and delicious! Can't wait to make this a regular staple at our home. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
A very nice family owned restaurant, I went there with my boyfriend and we had a good time. The place was clean and the girl who attended us was incredibly nice. We ordered guatita, salchipapas and the country plate, it was delicious! 10/10 would come again.
I absolutely love this restaurant. I've been to Peru many times and grew up on Peruvian food and considering the entire family is Peruvian- the food tastes incredible. My boyfriend and I go here every valentines day because the food and staff are amazing. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to try something new and delicious
Great and delicious food. The place is too small, though. As I was waiting for my food, I noticed that a couple left because there was no place to sit and eat. The place was packed. Again, their food is delicious.
I've been meaning to give them a rating forever lol but here it is! Im from the city so when I found out their was a pio pio up here I was excited, They're the sweetest and they always come through with the food tasting amazing, and they always deliver on time and promptly, I recently had a misunderstanding with a delivery issue that was a fault on my side and they gladly fixed it and re delivered my food! It's what I'm looking forward to after my work shift today! Unfortunately I wasnt home to get the order cause If I was I would have given them a bigger tip for being so nice! Theres always next time 🙌💜 highly recommend!
Delicious!! We must have got there at a good time, because we got a table. Such friendly and helpful service! She was so good answering all our questions. I had the tilapia and an appetizer with fries, onion salad and baby hot dogs, with a drizzle sauce- OMG….. we put everything on top of the fries and I could have eaten that for Days… I will definitely be returning!
Simple amazing food and great price. Service was prompt and pleasant and everyone was so friendly and polite.
This place does not disappoint. Aaroz con Pollo is my favorite
Everyone was very nice and I really loved the food. I would come back again!
Food was delicious, I would definitely come back. I ordered the Picada and everything tasted so rich and flavorable
lil spot to grab food. Honestly, I have to go every time I’m nearby. I’m puertorican and I can say ITS REALLY GOOD😍
Mr. Pio Pio, went above and beyond! We contacted them to cater our daughter‘s wedding. Not only were they helpful, but they were honest in what would be sufficient for the amount of guests we had. They could’ve said yes to the amount of food that I had wanted to order, but Ms. Norise made it very clear that it would be too much food, and so we went with the amount that she suggested. That’s integrity and honesty. They could’ve said yes to what I said and made more money, but instead they decided to keep it real. They went above and beyond with delivering the food, and bringing it in. They added special touches (things I didn’t ask for) with adding a beautiful dish that said bride and groom with the wedding date, and also glass bowls for the sauces. I would highly recommend you calling them to cater your next special event, whether it is a bridal shower, a wedding or a birthday party. Mr. Pio Pio, thank you so much you nailed it!
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in Albany. I’ve been coming here every weekend for four years now & haven’t been disappointed once. I love this place so much that I’ve brought a bunch of my friends & girlfriend here. Food is amazing & very affordable, customer service is top tier, and people are always so friendly and welcoming. The best place around!
My boyfriend and I have been coming to this restaurant for about 3 years and this place is ABSOLUTELY amazing! The food is always fresh and the customer service is amazing as well! I always recommend this place to friends/college students up here in Albany to try out some good hispanic food!
This place is a gem. I enjoy the food and service here everytime i go whether it is dine in or take out. Amazing food and good pricing for what you get. So far it is my favorite "overall" restaurant where i can enjoy multiple things off the menu and not just 1 favorite as i typically do.
I had a delightful meal at Mr. Pio Pio. It was pleasantly tasteful and delicious food. The Arroz con Pollo meal was delicious, smooth and soothing to the tongue with a silky and saucy relish for the senses. The food is nice, hot and soothing for the belly. The appearance of it is eye catching and unique for the eyes.
I've eaten quite a bit of delicious Spanish/Latin food in my life but this is by far the best I've ever had!!! I've been here twice now and I would be a fool to go anywhere else for this type of food. I'm so grateful to have this gem around the corner from my house. The food is very fresh, not overly salty like the majority of Spanish food, the drink selection is on point, and the service is excellent! Seriously go and check this place out, you will not be disappointed!😁😁
My experience is always the same absolutely delightful! I currently live in Connecticut and anytime I'm in New York I stop in at least a couple times a month. The food is absolutely phenomenal they never skip a beat it's always on point. The staff is extremely warm welcoming and friendly.
Authentic Latino restaurant. We tried their food for the first time and it was really impressive. Chef seemed to be very careful to make sure the food was well cooked and properly presented. It's a small and a cute place to dine in. Definitely not for party of more than 4 people. I guess take out would be the best for more than 4 people. Food undoubtedly taste very good.
Great food, clean facility with small/close seating, polite staff, and reasonable prices. I hope they will one day expand the seating area that will be a definite plus!
Traditional Ecuadorian food made by a traditional Ecuadorian family the only thing non traditional about it was the prices we felt like we were in Manhattan but the Ambiance is great and we had an enjoyable experience although we have not returned
South American food. The food is great, the service is not that fast and if you are with a big party or the restaurant is packed, you have to wait for quite some time. Try the shakes, they have a mango with milk one which I think is fantastic!
Best rotisserie chicken I even had. Beef strew was nice. Too much rice not to much meat.
I really love this restaurant. Pio Pio is very clean . It isn't the biggest restaurant very small and interpersonal . Never the less it is a cute place that you will love. I enjoy the atmosphere and the food. The service is good but could be better but definitely not rude. I enjoy the food A LOT and I'm verrrryyyy picky so to like something this much makes me happy ... Definitely will return ..😘😘😘😘😘
Steak was very flavorful... Plantain could have been a little sweeter and the not enough beans for all the rice given.. but very good place to eat.
We had delicious lunch at Pio Pio , just a feedback about the “ Lomo saltado “ , we order lomo saltado and I was expecting the lomo saltado original dish a stir fried red meet , red onions , tomatoes , soy sauce , I was expecting the original Peruvian dish lomo saltado instead pio pio lomo saltado look like a watery stew yellow dish . please do not offer lomo saltado in the menu when isn't the real lomo saltado /
Good food and good prices! I truly enjoy the chiccarones (?) Fried pork skins and that hot pepper sauce! Can't wait for them to open back up
Had the grand feast, it was so good I considered asking for a cooking job just to learn how to make food so delicious. I held back one star because Mr. Pio Pio offered no particular ambience. Show me some Ecuadorian culture for a five star rating.
Lil on the pricey side but pretty good. Some of the foods are a little salty but you can tell it's like family cooked meals. Sometimes the seasonings can be spread heavy handed.
They offer great homemade food. When I lived in Albany it was a regular stop. They do a dinner for 2 of great meats, plantains, etc. It absolutely delicious. A language barrier exists and I could see that maybe effecting customer service, but I've never had a problem. The food is worth the try
Other reviewers have vouched for the authenticity of this Ecuadoran restaurant, I just know I really like their food. I've been tasting my way through the menu for more than a year and I still haven't come across anything I didn't enjoy. They make my favorite beans and rice ever. The meats are always tender and moist as well as full of flavor, evidently from marinades and basting. The "mango juice" "with milk" is a wonderful mango milkshake. Same with the blackberry. This is not fussy cuisine, it's good, hearty, delicious comfort food. They just need to buy some new tables and spruce up their dining room. The surfaces of the few of the tables look like they've been worked over with a pocket knife, and there's no need for that sort of thing. It's time for them to upgrade their ambiance.
The food is really good. Totally Colombian. The traditional dish is my favorite. They remind me of the Chinese place in Clifton Park. It's a small restaurant, you can tell it's family owned. But you can eat there. Which is nice.
The food was so, so incredibly good. If you're looking for authentic Latin American cuisine, go here. It is one of my favorite places. The delivery takes quite some time and they come well after they say they will, but it's absolutely worth the wait.
I am from NYC born and raised and with all the cultural diversity within the city its really hard to impress me with food outside of the city. The city raises a bar that is pretty hard to beat. I live in Loudonville and I am always looking for "real food" to eat. I've found this Spanish restaurant Mr. Pio Pio. My husband and I went into the restaurant to eat and it was amazing. Though the food was good and the service is so so because of how small and busy they always are.. I was still reluctant because I've experienced the inconsistently of the quality of food before. Again, I went, I've also ordered food to go SEVERAL times and needless to say the food is AMAZING. Very flavorful every time. I would definitely highly recommend this restaurant to those that love very good flavorful authentic spanish food.
The food is good but they do not serve condiments that compliment the foods such as they sell steak but no steak sauce of any kind, they sell salad but no dressings. Ijs
The staff was friendly and spoke to me the second I walked in. The menu says they sell soup on the weekends. When I asked about the soup, they said they didn't have any. It was Saturday (the weekend). The stars are for the great customer service attitude.
After reading the reviews, I really doubt that I would go here. How ironic that two reviews mention the smell of urine ! Well the place is called Mr. pio pio. and why would you keep 8 & 10 yr. old reviews; who cares!
I would have put 5 stars in total. That is, until the end of the meal when I got the check. Their service was alright as well since if I remember correctly the lady barely waited on us. Whats worse is that they had added the tip on every meal we had. Supposedly! I wasnt able to calculate who had to pay for what and I am not even sure if I got my money back for the meal from each person and which person bought which meal. I can remember the price of the plate but not the price plus the tip… and to have to add it when it wasnt even mentioned before or basically done against our will? We were also only 5 people, it was not even a big party to have to put in automatic gratuity. They need to be more open with their policies if that is what they require in the restaurant. Being that we were also tourists visiting Albany, it doesnt make me feel safe with my money, especially if this is the normal at other restaurants around there.
Shrinkflation in full effect. Pay more , get less. Overpriced drinks.
Good 👍, the staff was very attentive and pleasant, but you can't eat with wine or beer. It's a shame... everything else was fine.
Delicious 🤤 Update- My first visit was delicious. Since then I have tried two more times. 2nd time it was not very great, I can’t explain why, I just wasn’t impressed. I thought maybe it was an off day, but I went a 3rd time, and again not impressed. They always seem to be out of what I want, whether it was parvo rojo or soup. The 3rd time soup was available, and it had a freezer burn taste, the veggies in the soup were clearly frozen peas/carrots etc. Maybe I am being overly critical, but soup should be make with all fresh ingredients.
Good prices decent food and good friendly service, but small spot. I got grilled chicken breasts , good portion of it but without seasoning, pull out the hot sauce! Or something else. I would go back, to try something different
Food is good. I get the Feast because it's filling & affordable. Last time I went in, he said they didn't have the Feast & they didn't have penil. After asking what they DID have I ended up ordering breaded chicken & rice with plantains. I didn't really like it. I'm disappointed in the customer service, that he thought it was ok they didn't have multiple options & he seemed annoyed that I still wanted to order. Over all, it's a great food place to order from if they have what you want.
I was so excited to find a Spanish spot up here in upstate NY. I'm from NYC. I will say the staff was great and the environment was great. I did take out but the plates that were coming out for Dinning In looked great while I was waiting. The food was made fresh. They ran out of roasted pork so I figured they was the spot to be at. When I got home with my food, I saw all my food was separated including my beef stew. When I mixed it, it was dry and tasted very bland. I was highly disappointed. The other meal I got was for my fiancée for Father's day since he loves Spanish food and being from Queens he really missed it. He was also disappointed with his plate not having any gravy when I asked for extra. I'm sorry this is long but I really thought they would be good and they really were nice and clean. Eat at your own risk 🤷🏽♀️
I really don't like the beans, and when the food came was cold
Service was very slow, the food was good, but not great. The employee are kind, but when asked for additional food, they advised the time frame for something that takes minutes to be completed it would take them over 45 minutes for me to receive.
For some reason everytime I order to-go in person they serve me overcooked and charred chicken but when I get it delivered the chicken is juicy and has flavor. Very disappointed bc their food is a 4/5 on a good day.
Pretty bad service, 50 minutes waiting for my order (the worst, there were no other custumers at all) Waiter act indifferent to the situation, very unprofessional. I do NOT recommend this place.
Worse latin good I have ever had. The waiter serves us the wrong plate and did not help when we asked for water. The food is lowest quality I’ve seen around the Albany area. This is my first and will be my last visit.
Ordered food and it never came I had to argue with grubhub to get a refund. Most times when I ordered in the past they were out of items. Chicken sometimes undercooked. I tolerate that but not delivering food without a call or anything is unbelievably horrible customer service I literally waited for 2 hrs with no response
So I am mainly giving them a 1 star not for the food, but communication and delivery. We ordered at 11:40 and waited for our food for almost 2hrs. It was scheduled for pick-up for 12:30 the latest yet somehow it was pushed to 12:50. If your ordering it out, make sure you order well in advance or only go for sitting in.
For years I’ve been a faithful client to this restaurant, the food is great but the custumer service is EXTREMLY poor. If you order for delivery or if you visit the restaurant, the guy that normally takes your order is extremly rude and tends to over price. I’ve seen other custumers argue with him about this issue. Sometimes I call for delivery and almost everytime I call he has a different minimum $$ for delivery, to the point that I no longer wish to do any business with them. It is sad because I’ve been a loyal custumer for years and live in the Albany area but their poor custumer service and price bias is not worth.
The steak cut was regular steak it wasn’t skirt steak had no flavor. The tres leche cake doesn’t taste like it. Tastes like regular cake.
This is supposed to be a Spanish restaurant!! What Spanish person puts peas and carrots in their rice! It gets better I ordered a sweet plantains and got a plantain that was cut in half and fried! And you people call this the best restaurant Spanish food around you people do not know what authentic Spanish food is. Never come here again. If I could give no stars I would.
We were charged $4.06 as tip without our consent and when we asked, the guy said that's what every customer does. The food was not worth the money spent. They cut the shrimp in the middle and split open to make it look like two cooked shrimps. Upon entrance in to the shop it was reeking of urine smell .I won't recommend this restaurant to anyone.
This place is the worst, it's smells like someone peed in there, and the management doesn't care about it,and the food is not worth the money. They snatched tip deliberately without even asking me. I won't recommend this place to anyone. Also if you want to keep this business, please provide a section for customers edit the tip on the reciept, thatvway customer wont think you are snatching their money, what you are doing right now is against the law, look it up. I had a stomach ache and loose motion same day and ate nothing else, how do you explain that?
extremely unprofessional and terrible service. the negative reviews are correct and based on the way the owner responds, avoid them at all cost. over 2 hours for delivery too. UPDATE: further evidence on why you should stay far away from this business that does not care for its customers. She was very dismissive and condescending, intentionally taunting me by saying “mhmm yeah noooo” so yes I have every right to be upset. She also did absolutely nothing to fix my issue or work with me especially after clearly stating that they never had any issues with my previous orders. They didn’t care at all. I’m extremely disappointment because I always order from here to support a Latin owned family business. As I explained to you, I did not ask for a full refund. I never got the refund for the item that you guys failed to fulfill and also replaced without my consent. GrubHub automatically gave me a full refund due to YOUR poor customer service. And on top of that, you guys lied and said that GrubHub told you to cancel my future orders, I spoke with them and they said they never told you to do that. This business is also petty because they accepted my order despite claiming that GrubHub told them not to and had me wait 3 hours just to mock me on the phone and cancel it. Sad that you guys don’t know how to treat PAYING CUSTOMERS. you work in customer service, if you don't like it then close the restaurant. Terrible customer service as evident in the way you reply to all the negative comments. by being defensive, argumentative, unable to take criticism and attack the customer by belittling THEIR experience at your restaurant. blaming the paying customers online instead of acknowledging your mistakes. Again extremely unprofessional. I will happily never order from here again and If you are a potential customer reading this, I implore you to look elsewhere. There’s multiple comments about their poor customer service throughout the years. They also have old replies where the restaurant publicly shares the customer’s personal details. Also, they literally only have ONE meal that is good out of their entire menu. Everything else is overpriced and not worth it. On top of that, they wanted me to return the food that they substituted without my permission. What kind of restaurant demands the customer to return the food after it’s been delivered and opened? This is a clear sign of poor service, lack of accountability and they definitely would’ve sold it to a different customer. And no, I did not eat it I threw it out. What’s alarming is that they returned to my house without asking me if it’s okay to do so and somehow “remembered” where I lived. They text you on your personal phone number which is also very concerning. I don’t feel safe knowing that they have all of my personal info. They’re too cheap to actually have the GrubHub drivers deliver, instead they do it themselves which is why it takes over 2 hours for delivery. I should’ve known better, this is the thanks I get for supporting their business despite all of the red flags. They don’t know how to keep customers or repair the relationship with loyal ones which this type of business heavily relies on. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!
TERRIBLE SERVICE! Selling cheaper steak than you what actually pay for. Don’t order from here you will get scammed. Update: After seeing the owner’s reply claiming I threw a tantrum because his mom the “manager” tried to argue with me the difference between a sirloin steak and what they have sold me. Coming from a family that owns a business where they also sell food I would never leave a false review to hurt no one. But making me drive make and forth after telling me you will provide a refund and then telling me in person you’re not providing a refund is not throwing a tantrum. Is scamming and wasting peoples time. I will gladly never order from you guys again and tell others not to order as well. After this awful experience that is what you call customer service.
I would never order from them ever again and I’ll report this because the steak was really trash. The only thing that was good with the sweet bananas. The they overpriced everything they don’t tell you the right price and make you look dumb when you’re going to go pay for it and then the situation the prices over price went online is telling me five dollars for all the side so why my order came up to 50 bucks when I ordered steaks, bananas and fries and two drinks that I said to orange drink, then say what type I said two can of orange drink
