cubbyhole Albee Square Reviews
Any queers who said they had a "great" experience but gave this place 4 stars needs to have a word with me. I mean, if you're intentionally voting Cubbyhole down bc you don't want the straights to find it, don't worry - they won't last an hour if they do come in. If, on the other hand, you can't comprehend that community care also means giving the local legendary Queer bar five stars on some random algo that popped off decades after this bar opened, Cubbyhole's probably better off without you hun. If you've left a 5 star review and you're over 37, come find me. 😜
Very fun vibes… and super nice staff. I loved my time here, definitely coming back. Ps: Cash only in place!
Cartier best security, had a lovely nightcap after attending a burlesque show in Brooklyn and wanted to swing by my old digs.
This bar is so cute. Be prepared it is TINY but I loved the atmosphere. Drinks weren’t too badly priced. I’ll be back next time I’m in the city!
It’s like the “cheers” of gay bars - been coming here for almost 20 years and the staff takes really good care of folks. Want to specifically shout out Omar and Kass who just last night kept us safe when a group of pretty disrespectful and aggressive men came in with their girlfriends and started trying to take over the bar by being pushy, demanding, and physically imposing. They cut the them off at the bar before it escalated to something dangerous and had security take them out. Really appreciated that!
Came on a Saturday night while Omar and Kas were working. They were absolutely great and handled the crowd well. I’m not much for busy crowds but they made me feel so at home. From the crowd to the staff they all make you feel welcome. Also shout out to the bouncer at the door for handling unfriendly guests with class. We witnessed an unfortunate situation but the bouncer was quick to handle it and took the guest outside to de-escalate the situation. 100% recommend. I will definitely be returning
CANNOT LOVE THIS PLACE MORE. I came from Rhode island for the first time on Wednesday for my birthday with a friend and ended up meeting and chatting with the bartender, Mitch who literally made my entire birthday so magical and I honestly had the time of my life because of the vibes in here. The community, the attention to detail in the drinks was top notch, it was literally such a vibe and im forever grateful for the effort they put in to make my birthday so special !!! Thank you to the whole team 🙏
As a visibly nonbinary person, I wanted to hit queer bars but was worried about being out of place. I figured for me, a lesbian bar was probably a safer, more welcoming bet, and I was 100% correct. I felt completely like I fit in, even when mostly I was just hanging out and enjoying the vibe. Good non-alcoholic drinks, and a great vibe and crowd even at 1 AM on a Tuesday. People were welcoming and willing to chat with someone who came alone, and it was a nice mix of locals and not. Absolutely recommended for trans people or just anyone wanting a good sapphic place to hang out.
Best bar in NYC! Came here three nights in a row and every time loved the friendly vibe, great bartenders and reasonably priced drinks. Ladies, come to cubby!
Fun queer-friendly bar if you're ever in nyc, highly recommend. Amazing drinks, nice cool air during warm days, great vibe, also, cute bartender. Been here twice and it's already a favorite hangout spot.
I absolutely loved Cubbyhole. This queer-friendly dive bar has an atmosphere that’s both wild and welcoming. The decor is incredibly dense—rainbows, twinkle lights, hanging toys—yet somehow it all works without tipping into kitsch. We visited during happy hour and had Dyke Beer for $5, which was not only excellent but perfectly suited to the space. The crowd was diverse, the energy was joyful, and the overall vibe was fantastic. Easily one of the best bar experiences I’ve had in the city.
One of the best bars I have been to in NYC 🏳️🌈 We were there on a Monday afternoon and it was still buzzing and atmospheric as if it was a Friday or Saturday night. Deb on the bar was friendly, welcoming and hilarious, playing great tunes, drinking games and handing out free pizza! Super quirky and colourful decor inside. The happy hour is also great - $5 fizz! This bar is a must visit!! I have been back many times since and always have an incredible time. 4 dollar well drinks on happy hour!!!! Can't beat it.
This bar is Floridaphobic!! No not really, I love this place. I love the service here. The vibes and atmosphere. But it’s happened three times to me where I’ll bring over friends so that they can a place I treasure but they keep getting denied. People who are 25, 30 can’t get in. I’m not sure if the technology isn’t updated or what, but it has been a little disheartening. All love though!
Fun vibe. They just let too many people inside (very small space, VERY packed). Like shoulder-to-shoulder at 11pm. I know they rebranded to a queer bar rather than lesbian but it’s pretty lesbian lol. A lot of PDA which was kinda jarring. There’s an electric jukebox. Pretty cool. They blow bubbles. Pretty cool. Not a place for dancing. There’s just no room to dance. A Long Island ice tea was $14 and solid. Strong. They also have $8 beers. Cash only. No credit/card.
This is the first lesbian bar I’ve ever visited and I’m glad I went there with my friends! The decorations on the ceilings are cute there was a beanie with the word “Uhaul” which was hilarious. (I bet you all know about uhaul lesbian). However the place was way too small and crowded I really hope we can have a bigger place to dance or something
*One-Star Review: Unacceptable Experience at Cubbyhole* I'm extremely disappointed in the service I received at Cubbyhole on June 27. As a paying customer, I was minding my own business at the end of happy hour when, without provocation, a white male staff member grabbed me from my bar stool and threw me out. This incident occurred without any prior interaction or verbal exchange between us, leaving me shaken and disrespected. Given that I was the only black female in the bar, I'm concerned that this unprovoked attack may have been motivated by bias or prejudice. As a customer, I expect to be treated with dignity and respect, regardless of my background or identity. *Key Issues:* - *Unprovoked Physical Altercation*: The staff member's actions were unwarranted and unacceptable. - *Lack of Respect*: I was not treated with the respect and dignity that every customer deserves. - *Potential Bias*: The incident may have been influenced by bias or prejudice, given the circumstances. *Recommendations for Improvement:* - *Staff Training*: Provide staff with training on de-escalation techniques, customer service, and bias awareness. - *Accountability*: Ensure that staff members are held accountable for their actions. - *Inclusive Environment*: Foster an inclusive environment where all customers feel welcome and respected. Unfortunately, my experience at Cubbyhole was marred by unacceptable behavior from a staff member. I hope that the establishment will take steps to address these issues and provide a better experience for all customers.
