Delice Sarrasin Albee Square Reviews
Solid food. You can bring your non vegan friends here, and they won't miss the meat. The crepes were delicious. I will definitely come back to try other dishes. The ambiance is 5 stars
A trusted source recommended this lovely downtown French vegan restaurant. Today we decided to give it a try and we are so glad that we did! From the moment we walked in, we were charmed and wowed by the service and the delightful menu! The eclair/croissant was light as air and a most divine treat! We all had something different so we got to sample four different entrées. Everything was absolutely scrumptious. You would never believe that the foie gras was vegan! The duck was insanely crispy and flavorful, and the steak was sumptuous and satisfying! I have to say that everything was a 10 out of 10 and then some! The service could not have been better! The chef is a masterful genius and If you are vegan and craving a taste of fine French cuisine than this is the place for you! The atmosphere was wonderful! This is great place for a romantic dinner!
Went on the recommendation of a coworker — I sent her a thank you message right after! French food is normally not vegan friendly at all, so I was thrilled to get to try this! The brie was absolutely incredible, so creamy and rich. Also thoroughly enjoyed the crabe pane with Brussels and the Toulousaine crepe (salted caramel, bananas, and coconut whipped cream)! I got a chocolate eclair from the bakery for breakfast for the next day, and it did not disappoint! I was chatting with my server, and it’s his mom who’s the chef! How cute is that?! I want to go back so I can try more of the menu. There is simply too much that I wanted for one sitting!
Beautiful decor. Great service. Surprisingly delicious "viennoiseries" since they are made with vegetal ingredients. We had the chocolate/praliné croissant and the almond croissant. As a French, and pâtisserie connoisseur (I worked in one of the most famous pastry shop in my town), I highly recommend Délice & Sarrasin.
A stunning vegan tribute to French cuisine. Great choices from steak, tartare, onion soup, one of the best vegan cheeses ever tried to satisfying sweets and many more. Hope this place will last very long - it was well visited and although service was extremely accommodating. Full recommendation!
Outside of a couple of speciality restaurants in Paris, veganised traditional French food is extremely difficult to come by. Delice & Sarrasin provide what others cannot with well-prepared French classics made with plant-based ingredients. We opted for: -Brie Rôti Végétal -Escargots Beurre Maître d’Hôtel -Soupe à l’Oignon Gratinée -Cassoulet Toulousain -Crabe Pané aux Choux de Bruxelles -Orange Crème Brûlée All of these were wonderfully cooked and presented. Vegan escargots were certainly a novelty and I doubt you'll find similar elsewhere. The main dining area is at the back and is a nice break from the busy area. Atmosphere and décor were both great. Service was quick, friendly and attentive. There was a slight error with the bill (which appeared to be a technical error and not the fault of the staff), but it was corrected immediately for us. I can’t fault it. If you're craving French food after switching to a plant-based diet then you can't go far wrong. While on the pricier side, I think they certainly justify their price points.
I had such a wonderful experience at Délice et Sarrasin in New York! The ambiance is just perfect—cozy and welcoming—and the chairs are actually comfortable (which is important to me!). The food is truly delicious, especially for a vegan restaurant, and it feels like a surprise every time I try a new dish. The flavors are so creative and satisfying. On top of that, the prices are very reasonable. I highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a spot that’s both relaxing and full of culinary delights!
Delice & Sarrasin is truly a gem! The Escargots Beurre Maître d’Hôtel were absolutely incredible, the Tournedos Rossini was rich and perfectly prepared, and the Orange Crème Brûlée was one of the most unique and delicious vegan desserts I’ve ever had—it’s a must! On top of the amazing food, the service was warm, attentive, and made the experience even better. This place proves vegan dining can be both elegant and unforgettable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an exceptional plant-based experience in NYC!
By far my favorite restaurant in the city! With reasonable prices and the most rich and flavorful gourmet and authentic French dishes served in a beautifully decorated space there is nothing not to love about it, I've brought friends and family here all who are not vegan and they were shocked at the flavors and textures, even comparing the steak tartare to the real thing! My favorite has to be the dishes using the chicken legs as the texture is so tender and umami the cruelty free is just the cherry on top. From the appetizers to the dessert every bite is just perfection thank you delice and sarrasin!
Gorgeous quaint restaurant with beautiful cruelty-free French cuisine! We thoroughly enjoyed our dishes and wished we had second stomachs to try the many other options on the menu. A must-visit if you're in the area and looking to blow your tastebuds away with plant-powered French fare.
I’m French but I rarely eat French food to be honest. Mostly because I don’t eat meat anymore and most of the things are meat based. So I was very curious to try a vegan French restaurant. And you know what? It was a very good surprise. The restaurant is cosy and welcoming. I really liked the atmosphere! The food was also great and generous. My husband and I had the cheese platter and foie gras for starters which was delicious. Then cassoulet for him and poulet basquaise for me. Both were delicious and generous. For dessert we shared a crepe flambée which was a bit thin but good. We had a nice lunch here and are very pleased with the food quality and quantity. It was very tasty and service was quick and efficient. The only downside was that it was a bit expensive in my opinion.
Wonderful meal! Beautiful atmosphere! Vegan versions of French classics that blow your mind. French Onion Soup, Savory Crepe with cheese and chicken, Chicken in wine and mushroom reduction, TarTar that was lemony and tangy, then a rich Chocolate Cake and Hot Dark Chocolate!!! We thoroughly enjoyed!!
French cuisine has never tasted better and you don’t have to be vegan to enjoy. I had the coq au vin which is absolutely divine. We also had the Brie for an appetizer and my husband had the vegan duck and sausage. Excellent food, service and atmosphere. We will be returning again and again. Our new favorite French restaurant. Highly recommend.
fantastic vegan food at delice & sarrasin! it is so hard to find vegan french food so this was definitely on my list when i knew i was visiting NYC. we were seated quickly with no booking and ordered the escargot, duck strips, and beef bourguignon. everything was delicious! the serving size is on the smaller side but the flavours are incredible. the service however was quite slow, i think there was only one server, and the restaurant is very bright inside which does dull the ambience. definitely would recommend to any vegan visiting nyc!
A vegan French restaurant! Food was very good. Favourites included the French onion soup (no one could tell it was vegan) and Brie Rotie. The truffle fries were surprisingly delicious. This is a restaurant that I believe could pass for traditional French food. I doubt people would know it was all vegan if they didn’t advertise it. The cheeses are the biggest surprise at how close they resemble dairy cheese. The omnivore at our table loved the Beef. I would highly recommend for those who like the taste of meat and vegans who miss it. Very classy, quiet atmosphere. Perhaps not the best place to bring our toddler but the staff were very kind.
I had been really excited to try this French vegan restaurant and you can truly see the potential. The food was good, but unfortunately there were several service and comfort touchpoints that really affected the overall experience. We had a reservation but still waited for our table in a very bright entrance/waiting area that quickly filled with groups of people. I completely understand it was Valentine’s Day and restaurants want to accommodate as many reservations as possible but It was really awkward and weird. Maybe if you’re going to do that offer a glass of something? Idk. Once seated, the tables felt EXTREMELY tight. During our dinner, a wine glass broke right next to us and we heard another glass break elsewhere in the dining room. The place definitely needs some TLC as well, the chairs were very uncomfortable — the foam cushions felt completely worn out and there were visible ring stains that didn’t look very clean. The bathroom trash was overflowing, which is the last thing you want to see before a meal. I completely understand that budgets can be tight when a place needs upkeep, but restroom cleanliness is something that should always be maintained, especially on busy nights when someone should be checking it frequently. I went once when arriving and another an hour later and it was still the same. After being seated, we waited about 15 minutes or more before anyone came over or even brought water…. Keep in mind we were already waiting before we got seated. There was also a strange wine service moment. My boyfriend ordered a 2020 bottle and stepped away to the restroom. The server brought the wine and poured it while he was gone, so I simply said thank you since I wasn’t sure what had been ordered. When my boyfriend returned, we noticed the bottle was actually a 2022. When mentioned to the server he started talking about tariffs and idk what, he said he would check the back for the 2020, even though the menu never mentioned a 2022. He returned like 2 minutes after with the 2020 bottle……anyway, the situation felt avoidable if the wine had been presented when the person who ordered it was at the table. There was one gentleman that was really nice and the other that didn’t have the best vibes. All that said, the food itself was good. We ordered the escargots, foie gras, poulet basquaise, steak tartare, and a crepe. Everything was nicely seasoned and packed with flavor. Unfortunately, we both felt quite nauseous immediately after leaving and the feeling lingered into the next day — we suspect it may have been the steak tartare since we both couldn’t even talk/think about without feeling like we were going to get sick, which was disappointing because we both normally have very strong stomachs. The crepe wasn’t my favorite, I’ve had crepes way too many times and there’s something about the dough that I didn’t like. Overall, this restaurant has so much potential, I would still recommend it and would return, but there are several details that simply can’t be missed if the experience is meant to match the quality of the food.
My honest opinion of this vegan restaurant is that the decor was quite well thought out by the owner. The vegan food was actually pretty good—the "chicken" looked like real chicken. I ordered two crepes: one with "chicken" and one with fruits and chocolate. However, the service was not up to par. The dining room had both a door and a window open, which caused a lot of wind and drafts, making it unpleasant to eat in such conditions. The first time I asked to be moved, the host refused. I insisted a little and explained why I wanted to change tables, and they eventually moved me—but still placed me next to an open window. Also, the waitress lacked experience. There wasn’t much coordination among the staff—two different servers asked me what I wanted and where I was in the meal, even though I had already ordered. The waitress who served me seemed a bit confused. So overall, the service wasn't very smooth or pleasant.
Not recommended if you have always been vegetarian/vegan. We felt the food was too “meaty” yet bland, did not enjoy paying $36 each for these two items that we didn’t enjoy. Also the service wasn’t great. The interior is really pretty and the rest of the reviews seem good, so maybe it’s a good spot to sit and have some coffee or for people who eat meat and want to try something similar but vegan.
