We had a wonderful experience at this place, a restaurant I would describe as "dim sum for dummies". If you want to have dim sum in Chinatown, but you're a little intimidated by the idea of a traditional dim sum parlor, this is the way to go. You are offered a menu when you are seated, but you order online and can leave the check open to order more as the meal progresses. At the end, you flag down a server to pay. The server brings each item to your table, checking it off of a list they've taped to your table. The food was delicious! We had the wonton soup, filled with dumplings and more flavorful than these Okies had ever had at a Chinese buffet back home. We also sampled the Crystal Shrimp combo, which was a good representation of their dumplings. In addition, we tried the beef and scallion pancakes, which were sort of like a thin pastry wrapped around slices of beef, and the salted crispy chicken, which were tasty nuggets of dark meat deep friend and served with a dipping sauce. At the end of the meal, they gave us a complimentary milk pudding dessert b/c our check was over (was over --- we went big) $30. The food was great and the service efficient.

Really nice spot with a great vibe and awesome decor. We had hot tea, spicy pork soup dumplings, wontons in chili oil, buffalo spicy wings, and salted crispy jumbo chicken. Everything was fresh and delicious. Finished with milk + taro pudding, light and perfect. The bill was surprisingly great and pretty affordable. Friendly service and fast food. Highly recommend!

Went here because another place had a long line and so glad we did! Such a cute unexpected interior. Love the time out dining cage, would love to be seated there. The crème brûlée boba drink was decadent and not too sweet and overwhelming, but a nice treat! The pork soup dumplings and scallion pancakes were PERFECT but the star of the show was the crispy black pork potstickers I would order 2 more of them if I had a Time Machine.

The space is large, clean, and bright. You order and pay directly from your phone using a QR code on the table, so there’s not much interaction with the staff, though service is still good. We tried the pan-fried dumplings, and they were excellent, perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. Prices are a bit higher than your typical Chinatown restaurant, but the quality of the space and the food makes it understandable. It’s a quiet place with soft background music, ideal for a quick, relaxing meal or a lunch break. It’s probably not the spot for a hangout or a date, but if you’re in the mood for great dumplings in a clean, modern setting, Dumpling Story is a solid choice.

The guys needed meat. General Tso hit the spot. My daughter and I learned how to eat soup dumplings. Delicious! Very calm atmosphere, which we really needed after a busy morning.

Hidden gem of a restaurant that is right off the Grand Street station (corner of Grand Street and Chrystie Street, great conveniently located). Excellent service that is very attentive, and willing to help. The menu is decadent with plentiful options for every palate.

This is such a cute little restaurant. I came here for lunch with my niece. I like how you can order from the tablet at the table. We had noodles and those were pretty good. To drink, we got a lemonade and a slush and those were also good and refreshing!! The staff was also nice.

Absolutely loved this place! The food is not only delicious but also beautifully presented—every dish felt like a work of art. The interior decor is full of traditional Chinese charm, creating a warm and authentic atmosphere. The staff were all very friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even better. I’ll definitely be coming back!

I want to seat in the bird cage next time. Food is delicious. I enjoy the fried chicken and soup dumplings. Service is great. It’s empty when we got there but then fill up quickly.

Many times, we have passed the Dumpling Story at NW corner of Chrystie and Grant Street. First thing caught our attention is the fresh baked Shanghai pork moon cakes. Accidentally, we walked into the dine-in today, very nice and cozy décor. Found a Valentine's meal for 2, and decided to try it out. Food taste authentic, well done! The Yang Zhou fried rice is above the average, but still has some room to upgrade. Totally understand Fried Rice is typically not as easy as it sounds. 3 tips of secret for outstanding fried rice is the overnight cold rice, smaller size shrimp without being over cooked to maintain it's juicy and tenderness, and last but not the least is the fresh lard adding natural unique pork meat flavor boost the appetite. Well, this is absolutely the place we will revisit next time in town.

Delicious food for a great value and attentive service. They even give you a free dessert after spending $30. My only note is I wish the spicy pork soup dumplings were actually spicy. They tasted like the normal ones but with red coloring 😅. They also have great Christmas music playing at this time.

I thought I love Asian food but this restaurant WAS SO MUCH BETTER THAN JUST ASIAN FOOD. Everything we ordered, noodles, wonton soups and dumplings, was absolutely mouthwatering. Bubble tea tasted like heaven and you can choose whatever combination you want. The staff were very nice and helpful, we didn’t have any issues with communicating. A little pudding dumpling we got at the end of our dinner was a cherry on top, such a nice gesture and sooo delicious. I recommend this place at a 100%, this place is so much better than most spots on the whole Chinatown. A visit there, while being in NYC, is a must!

This is a charming little shop with a lovely atmosphere. Very homey and personal with family style meals. Servers are friendly and attentive. Scallion pancakes and garlic cucumber salad were the highlights of the meal. Dumplings combo and dumplings with red chili oil were tasty too. Portions are larger than pictured because we ate before taking photos

Came for an early dinner, was seated quickly, and food came shortly after ordering. The scallion pancake was excellent - probably one of the best I’ve had. Garlic pork, spicy pork, and crabmeat soup dumplings were very flavorful and served with both dumpling sauce & black vinegar. Overall really good spot for a quick bite. Would highly recommend!

Their pork soup dumplings were great as were there noodles. The sesame chicken and rice didn’t have much flavor. You wouldn’t recommend the scallion pancakes because they were drenched in oil. I might go back, but only for the dumplings.

We had a really good dinner here, and it is a strong 4-stars. We had the scallion pancakes (slightly oily but really tasty), sweet & sour soup, wonton spicy dumplings and the stir fried broccoli. Note - bring your own vino, beer or whatever as they do not serve alcohol :)

Good food overall but the fried noodles with chicken was a little salty. Milk tea had too much sugar. If you want hot tea (tea bag in a cup) it’s an extra $2. Plus is getting a free milk pudding shaped like a soup dumpling but only if you spend $35+. Wait staff didn’t come over to help take away dishes that were empty as we were ordered a lot but were seated a table for two instead of shifting us to the larger one after the party next to us had left. Music was a bit loud, American pop music.

Tried the Beijing Peking Duck Bao (2 pieces) with milk from the takeout kiosk. It was a good deal at $10.99, but the quality didn’t quite match the value. The duck skin wasn’t crispy, which was disappointing since that’s usually the best part. There was also too much sauce, which overpowered the flavor of the duck. They warmed it up slightly before placing it in the bun, but it didn’t do much to improve the texture. Decent if you’re curious to try it once, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to order it again. Would still want to try the full menu.

Located at the corner of Grand and Chrystie Streets, Dumpling Story is a pretty restaurant. The interior is atteactivr with lots of foliage, a tree with a large trunk at the entrance that looks real and comfortable seating. Menus are on tablets. When I had passed DS earlier I saw a picture of Peking duck baos which caught my eye. I am very fond of these. After an appointment and the bus taking too long, I decided to eat here. The tablet had lots of choices. I chose the baos and pork soup dumplings. Two baos came first and the duck skin was flabby. Ideally the skin should be crisp. The duck meat also was not up to par. I thought longingly of the superb ones at Shanghai You Garden in Flushing. The pork soup dumplings had thick wrappers and little broth. This was disappointing. I had wanted to like this seven month new restaurant which had beautiful decor including the unisex restroom but it didn’t translate to the cuisine served.

The dumpling flavours are good but the value is not. I would recommend several places in the area over this place. Very clean and bright interior. The black pork pot stickers are very tasty. The cucumber salad is not very well seasoned.
