French Louie Albee Square Reviews
Delicious lunch an a really bustling spot, swift take turnovers, so it is worth waiting if you ever have to go on wait list… perfectly crispy fries!
It took me way too long to finally brunch here. So many friends have recounted their tasty experiences here that it’s been starred on my map forever. Met one of them on a sunny spring Saturday. She suggested we split the hefty crème brûlée French toast - with blackberry compote and crème fraiche. I am a fan of panisse and socca so had a hard time choosing between the socca with Niçoise tuna or the vegetable one. The all vegetable topping was so satisfying and left me enough room for the French toast. My friend’s scrambled plate was also lovely. Can’t wait to come back for dinner!
Delicious and charming restaurant. The ambience is easy going, not stuffy and given the quality of the food, the prices are reasonable. When it's nice out, the spacious back patio is perfect and makes you easily forget that you're on one of the busiest streets in Brooklyn. They're less crowded on the weekend for brunch and have great brunch cocktails.
A neighborhood staple. I'm so grateful to have French Louie so close by! The food is impeccable, the drinks are always delicious, and the staff is kind and welcoming.
Dinner was very good (though I must admit I am not a French food connoisseur). I had the duck dish which had a huge serving of duck over red rice. The red rice was not to my fancy as it was mixed with fruit slices, some of which were sour. It made the dish unique, of course, though I would have preferred rice that was more savory as a side. Not pictured but the chocolate tart was amazing, with a rich and decadent chocolate and just the most perfect tart base. It was complemented by a light cream that had a coconut undertone. Would be back for the brunch menu and hopefully the tart again!
Creative above average food with a creative twist. Another visit and we ordered the scrambled eggs and enjoyed them along with crispy toast and a fresh salad. Pleasant service and seating along with a comfortable and large backyard space. Highly recommend their food and their service!
nice neighborhood restaurant. Burger was good. pate came with bread crisps and baguette and creamy butter hit the spot.
Where to start..... I came here hungry not knowing what awaited me. I’m a Chef in NYC and went to culinary school and do home cooking nearly everyday. castillo.chef.1990 is my insta if interested. I walked in here November 3 around 1pm afternoon to find something to fill my stomach and leave satisfied but man oh man was my satisfaction exceeded. I had the Nicoise Socca. It a delicious chickpea flat bread with 2 half eggs, delicious rare tuna and olive aiola on top. It was very delicious and made me feel amazing but one of the biggest reason in my respectful opinion to come here was the dessert. I ordered the Banana Foster Profitroles and my mind was just blown away. Legendary French Chef Fernand Point once said that no meal is complete without a dessert and man oh man was he absolutely correct! It is probably one of the best dessert I ever had and it has me currently wanting to come for more! See you soon and thank you again!
Scored a table for brunch! Pancakes and burger were the stars of the meal. Pancakes are fluffy and sweet, burger is perfectly balanced with patty, cheese, sauce. Fries were crunchy and salted well. Service was pretty good, it was very busy so it took the server a little longer than I would have liked to stop by for a quality check - we needed more syrup. Highly recommend.
Skillfully cooked food in a cozy setting. We always have a satisfying meal here. Waiters are very helpful and aim to please.
Friend and I enjoyed a nice backyard table for brunch. The drinks looked cool. Food was great! I am looking forward to come back and check the dinner menu.
This is a top notch place for nice cocktails, quality beer, and well-prepared food. The staff are friendly and down to earth, and also conscious this place is fine dining without being overly pretentious. An excellent back patio with great light, a nice bar, and a menu that’s geared toward the nice meal, a proper plate, and the right food details. Cool vibe.
Took myself here for brunch yesterday and had the eggs Benedict, which is served with a scrumptious crab hollandaise on a croissant, the side salad was flavorful and dressed with a vinaigrette. Fries were tasty but not crisp (I enjoyed them though). That would have been enough food for one person but I was feeling gluttonous so also got Madelines and a coffee for dessert- both great and served with a delightful apple sauce to spread. Service was great and both indoor and outdoor spaces were bright and clean. Loved it!
This place exceeded our expectations! My lady and I came here for dinner and we were extremely happy with the service and food. The gnocchi was phenomenal, light but just the right amount to make us happy. We wanted to try the swordfish, which unfortunately was not available but we had the trout instead and it was very tasty! The banana foster was unbelievable!!! My lady is not a sweets person, but she ate the entire dish! I mean she literally ate the entire dish. Amazing! We’ll need to go back to try other dishes but from what we had, we were really impressed!!!
A gem in Brooklyn.... If I lived in this hood I'd be a regular. After having just been to Paris, I have to say the food is great with an American twist. Had the duck confit, skate wing, dry aged steak, papardelle, some drinks, 2 appetizers and the bill came out to under 300 which I found great for a meal this enjoyable. Laid back vibe... Def swinging through next time I'm in cobble hill!
Excellent food and drinks, very courteous service and a cozy atmosphere. We dined here with a group and every dish and appetizer was great. It's a bit pricey though. The only drawback was the music they had on: it was somewhat irritating at the beginning, but they switched it to something pleasant later on.
Each plate delivers something truly special to your table. Staff members worked quickly while staying connected to us. Make room for their signature specialties. The visual elements please and the food choices interest. The place performs flawlessly.
I hadn’t been here in years and years, and I came back expecting very good traditional French dishes. I was surprised. While the dishes were French, they felt inspired by the fun, more adventurous Le Fooding movement. And while they took quite a while to come out (not a place for a quick bite!), they were excellently executed. Even the kids’ chicken breast was something most restaurants would be proud to serve to adults. I was shocked. Bien fait!!!
While the lunch menu was limited, everything was done perfectly at French Louis. They have one the best French fries I have had in the past 5 years: thinly cut and fried to perfect crunchiness yet still soft inside. I highly recommend the trout bo boy which comes in a huge portion and no less impressive flavour! Price is reasonable and service is efficient.
Came in with a friend on a busy Saturday afternoon for a birthday brunch and we had a lovely time. I got the Eggs Louie, a delicious eggs Benedict with crab served on a warm flakey croissant and he ordered a burger royale. Both were absolutely perfect and the mimosas were tasty too! The atmosphere was lively and bright and our server was wonderful. Totally recommend for a memorable brunch experience.
Excellent casual French. Celebrity sightings while there too! Great spot to eat before Barclays center - it’s walking distance.
French Louie is perfect for a special occasion, casual brunch or a quick drink. Their food is special without being fussy and they have consistent staples with a few rotating, seasonal options. Last night I enjoyed gougeres and mussels in a broth of cider, mustard crème fraiche and leeks that was so rich and well balanced. They also had a seasonal squash and apple soup with oat milk foam as a riff on a cappuccino, with a crunchy and sweet pistachio biscotti. Great food and flavor combinations, drinks and vibes!! Make a reservation!
A very cozy & romantic place w/great food, great service (the people were all quite kind & wearing smiles, which makes a HUGE difference in the atmosphere), & a great music play list. Our kind server was quite patient w/our dietary questions (my wife requires a special diet) & offered much advice to us. We will definitely be back b/c of the great people, the excellent food, & the fine music list.
Cute little neighborhood gem — so pleasantly delicious! French Louie has a beautiful, intimate setting with great food. I got the Bavette steak frites for dinner (comes with a really yummy and fresh mixed salad. Topped with pickles tho so if you don’t like pickles, I’d tell them!). The fries are hand cut and so good. For lunch I got the trout po boy, also delicious and came with fries. My husband got a vegetable dish that I can’t remember the name of. It was good but we both admitted my po boy was better. We ordered a side of fries. Very intimate and chill. Perfect date night
The decor of French Louie is classy with cozy ambiance. It has been on my bucket list for a while after seeing great reviews. Our friends had their Eggs Louie and classic Croque Madame. Both looked great and we would like to try next time. We got their Socca & Eggs and Creme Brûlée French Toast to share. Both were delicious especially the French toast. The texture of the toast inside was rich and creamy like pudding with crispy brûlée layer on top.
Nice intimate experience at the bar. The bartender was really attentive and made an excellent martini, one of the best I have had in years! Fantastic. We tried several dishes but the dish that won the show was the Crab Louie - absolutely spectacular! Really really just a perfect night. Authentic real old school french took me back to my college days in Paris. So great.
They don’t provide physical menus you have to use your phone to look at their menu as a way to place your order. Other than that service was superb. I have been hearing about this creme brûlée French toast for a while and I just had to indulge. I loved it. It had that creme brûlée crisp on the top of this huge French bread. My bite was lightly sweet, with a crunch and a delicious whipped yolk within the French toast. This is definitely a must try. This place is definitely one of Brooklyn’s hidden gems, French style cuisine. GO HERE!
TLDR: Great food, service, and cocktails in a charming space. French Louie is one of our go-to's for an elevated dining experience. Think date night or a special occasion. It's not that it costs much more than a regular weeknight dinner out but it's just a bit more bespoke. We've been visiting for years and have never been disappointed by the experience. Cocktails are always delicious and mixed to perfection. The Chicken Liver Pâté appetizer is an umami explosion, so tasty and smooth. For entree, it's hard to go wrong with the Bavette Steak Frites. It's always tender and cooked to perfection and their frites are excellent. Lastly, the staff are consistently friendly and attentive. For French in Boerum Hill, FL is tough to beat.
Much hyped on the socials but it delivers. The venue boasts a wall of tables for two with banquet seating and an outdoor dining space. The service is attentive without hovering. You're greeted by the cheery barstaff then the host guides you to your table. The menu is small but the execution is near perfect. Despite the size, the restaurant is family friendly and not very loud when full. It fills up fast so reservations are absolutely recommended.
Top neighborhood restaurant. I’m obsessed with their brunch — the eggs Louie and hash browns are exceptional. Also a big fan of the cocktail. Have also enjoyed most of the dinner items and appreciate how they can balance people with families and keep it elevated at the same time.
I was in the neighborhood for a birthday and a friend recommended Louie. It has a very nice cozy interior and the host gave us a warm greeting even though we did not have a reservation. The escargot, steak, and lamb dishes were amazing and the cocktails top notch. The thing that truly made this night memorable was the staff friendliness and service. The server accidentally dropped some butter on me and the manager went out of his way to explain that the stain might be difficult to remove and he offered to cover the dry cleaning. This was handled so well and I really appreciated it. I wish I lived in the neighborhood as I'd go once a week if I did!
I love that the Adore waitress was super nice. The food was ridiculously good. It was so well portioned the portions were very big. The drinks were a bit small but they were tasty. The pickle okra was incredible. I have never tried that before, and the Spanish Dominican culture we eat this a lot, but never like this, so it was a great surprising new taste. I love how the waitress was very attentive and gave us enough time. They also had good energy in the restaurant. I really enjoyed this place. The food was very fresh. It was very well plated. The eggs were cook perfectly.
We loved this brunch! First, customer service was amazing. The waitress was so friendly and warm, she was very considerable. More importantly, the food was awesome. French Toast was delicious and melt in your mouth. It was a huge plate. Too big for one person, share would be good! Egg Louie was tasty too! Especially the croissant with egg melting at the top. We’ll definitely visit back again!
My wife and I took our son out to dinner Wednesday night at French Louie—his recommendation—and we had a wonderful evening. Our server, Jason, was fantastic. He patiently answered all of our questions while we decided what to order and was attentive throughout the meal, regularly checking in to make sure everything was perfect. Even as the restaurant quickly filled up, we never once felt rushed or pressured. The steak frites and the moules were absolutely divine. Overall, it was a lovely dining experience, and we’re already looking forward to coming back.
Had a spontaneous date night here and it turned out to be the perfect spot. The food was great and I especially appreciated the portions considering the affordable price point. The highlight for me were the fried artichokes, they were so delicious and memorable and so was the salad verte!
Joined for dinner on a Thursday night. The restaurant has a modern-bistro sensibility with subtle rustic touches and a nice balance between elegance and comfortable warmth. We sat in the back section of the main dining area with the leather banquettes. Tables did feel too cramped, and the it wasn’t a busy night but it would be difficult to get out from your seat on a busy one. Service was okay, not the most friendly and warm. Food was very good. The escargot was delicious, the piece of sausage added to each shell elevates the flavor. The grilled whole dorade was very fresh, meat was tender with a subtle sweetness. But the charred broccolini was very bitter for some reason. House steak was okay. Would love to try the lamb next time. Overall a cute bistro with great food.
Came for lunch on a date! It’s a cute and elevated spot. Get the Trout Po’ Boy- you won’t regret it. The dressing on it is so delicious, I’d love to know how they make it. The French bread is thick so if you’re looking for a lighter meal, then maybe skip. They have a very nice outdoor patio in the back! Very nice to sit under the sky / in the sunlight, but there are only 2 tables in the direct sun. The other “backyard” seating is actually under a big awning.
Our group of six had a wonderful brunch at French Louie. Everyone enjoyed their food, but the Crab Louie was the table favorite for sure. Nice atmosphere inside, and next time I think I'd book a table in their back garden, it looked lovely. Service was efficient, but a times could have been more attentive. I did very much appreciate their flexibility to adjust our reservation less than 24 hours in advance. Reservations likely required for weekend brunch as there was a large crowd trying to get a table as we left.
I loved this place. It's a small place but it is comfortable. They have a very cute patio, which I was happy to be able to enjoy. The service is very good. I had the Anchovies Frites. They were 😋 especially when paired with the Aioli that comes with it. I also had the Gougers. They were good. The prices are reasonable. I have to come back and try something else on the menu.
One of my favorite places to go to for good, quality and satisfying meals. The place is always crowded so i suggest making a reservation prior to arriving. Depending on where you are seated, having a conversation might be challenging so if you are catching up with family and friends, indicate interest in sitting near the garden entrance where it tends to be more quiet. The staff are willing to accommodate and nice. Also don't forget to say bye to the kitchen staff on your way out!
Duck au poivre, his; Gnocchi Parisienne (kombucha squash, radicchio, wild mushrooms, smoked ricotta), mine; steak tartare & escargot (with grits & bordelaise) for the table; gougeres for the table; chocolate ice cream, Bananas Foster profiteroles & a spiced chocolate tart with hazelnuts and creme fraiche shared by the table. Plus a wonderful cup of coffee that was so good it deserves its own mention. This is a beautiful place with great ambiance and good food. Some interesting take on classic dishes. Couldn't detect any spice in the tart but it was crazy good.
7/2/17 - brunch again and ordered the burger and the crab benedict. Decent burger, but I enjoyed the benedict more even though it's less food. Good times. ***original review*** We had the french toast creme brulee, the cordon blue chicken, and the socca. My review is going to be biased because we're long-time friends of the chef for brunch and he's one of the happiest-go-lucky kind of guys I know and it shows in his food, so kudos to that. The staff was also super patient with us considering we stayed for about 5-6 hours drinking, but luckily there was always a table available for the next customer, otherwise, we would have been 'that table'. If you can make brunch reservations, go for it because we had a 30+ minute wait so you can tell it's a popular local spot. Family's also also welcome and accommodated well with large tables. The interior is warm and well done and the back gets a lot of direct sunlight. You can't speak poorly of the staff as they are all extremely nice. We'll go back to try dinner and get brunch again since there were a few other things on the menu that we want to try.
Nice and cosy place for dinner. Good choice of dishes. The staff are friendly. Order was brought in 20 minutes, but the couple at the next table waited over 50 minutes (they ordered chicken). 🍷 Tried a delicious French wine. Food for 3.5-4 out of 5 points. 🥗 The salad was filled with vinegar or some kind of sauce so sour it was impossible to eat. 🥩 The meat was very mediocre, definitely not worth the money. 💲 For two with alcohol it came to more than $130. Expensive for a mediocre meal. I will not be coming to this place for dinner again.
Came here on a date, and it was a very nice experience. If you are looking to try good French cuisine in Brooklyn, this is the place. The interior is large enough without feeling empty, and it has an intimate feel about it. The staff is friendly and laid back, so the make you feel at ease. Their hot toddy is especially great for those cold New York winters. My date had the Peconic Escargot "Marchand de Vin", and while I'm not a fan of fish, the flavors in this dish are compelling and a bit surprising, but in no way bad. I had the quail en brochette, which was fine, much akin to a bonier chicken dish. Will definitely go back, probably try the steak tartare next time. A great experience overall.
Went here for brunch. I had the eggs Louie which was eggs Benedict with crab cake on a croissant. It was served with greens in a light vinaigrette. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The Bloody Mary came with pickled cauliflower, tomato and fennel- surprisingly good. Also ordered was the eggs with mushrooms and goat cheese which was served in a small crock - it helped to keep the eggs warm but also tended to overcook the eggs. Also there was hardly any goat cheese in the eggs. We shared the duck fat potatoes which were like really yummy hash browns. For dessert we shared the madeleines which came with this awesome fresh orange marmalade- never tasted anything like that. Small place with tight seating but a great vibe. Would totally do again!
I came here for brunch and had the Eggs Louie which was pretty good. I switched out the poached eggs for eggs scrambled soft. The buttery croissant was the star of the meal for me. I also ordered the Creme Brûlée french toast. It was just ok, the texture was nice but the sweetness wasn’t there as much as I expected.
A rocky start to our dining experience where we lost our reservation for being just 10 minutes late. The hostess was not even the least apologetic! However, we were quickly seated in the exterior backyard space that is quieter and more relaxing than the interior (dark and rather noisy). Food portions are exceptionally generous, and all dishes are very well prepared and delicious! Will definitely consider coming back again for another experience!
To start off the lamb leg chop was very good, another reviewer states it was fatty but to my understanding that cut of lamb is usually pretty fatty but I thought it was cooked very well and tasty, if anything the salad that accompanied the steak dishes was heavily doused with dressing. I had an escargot appetizer not pictured as well and that was also quite tasty. For a French meal our group thought voerall the pricing was fair and on the lower side of usual French cuisines. Ambiance is very cozy and the backyard looked comfortable. The service was excellent and food all came out at the same time for our group. It's the little things that count for restaurants like these and it shows they care. Will come back again and try other things in the future.
I came here for brunch and I liked that there wasn’t a crazy line or that I had to wait hours like other brunch spots in Brooklyn. The brunch menu is short but tasty. I tied the eggs Louie and the French toast. I liked this new twist of French toasts. If you are looking for the best French toasts in nyc I would add this to your list. Warning, they are huge so they are perfect for sharing. The staff was nice and fast. The food service was also fast. The patio is nice and it has an electric roof in case of rain or if the sun is too strong. I would like more brunch food options but I think this place is a good spot for a casual breakfast.
Had high expectations; felt the food is decent. Reasonably busy during a weekday lunch, with seats available. Steak tartare - quite good. Liked the packed tartare and loose yolk combination. Could do with a tiny bit more salt. Baguette was quite hard. Burger - liked the skinny fries though they are a tiny bit on the mushy side. Burger patty is decent but I’ve had better. Service is okay. Portions are also good for the price.
We had a special birthday dinner with our adult children and their spouses. We were celebrating a 75th and 40 th birthday. The food was excellent from the starters through dessert. The service was top rate, helpful, efficient, friendly and professional. The ambience was also very good. The staff even arranged to have lit birthday candles in our dessert. We all had a lovely time. Merci, French Louie!
This is a cute neighbourhood spot. We enjoyed the NYC restaurant week dinner deal, 3 courses for $45. Overall, we found our food quite salty (chicken was very intense), not sure if it was just that evening or if this food is overly salted. Highlight was the Bananas foster profiterole for dessert.
Was expecting more of the reviewed options like the steak frites to be on the brunch menu but seems like they do a different set. Crab Louie was pretty good though. Had service at the bar and was attentively taken care of although I was also inadvertently able to hear all the team gossip. May come back to try their dinner menu.
Beautiful ambiance but a bit tight. Great attentive staff. Food was good but didn’t blow me away. The octopus is really small. Did not like the leeks vinagrette. The mussels are great! The banana foster dessert is to die for. Heard great things about the pasta. Tried a bit of the cast iron chicken: nice and smoky, big portion. The fish looked good too - heard it was very bony.
If when dining out your priority is service, then this might just be your new favorite restaurant. They have truly nailed the balance between being attentive but not overbearing, which is not something a lot of restaurants can claim. As for the food, most things where a 9 or 10. I did come very excited for the steak tartare, as it’s one of my favorite meals, and maybe my hopes were too high but it left something to be desired. It wasn’t bad by any means, it just wasn’t great. The steak frites, on the other hand, are worth every penny. Don’t sleep on the dessert, the banana profiteroles were absolutely mental, would go back just for that. Additionally, they have a very beautiful patio, which I didn’t sit in because it was sweltering the day I went.
I had the burger and it was good. I ordered it rare and they did a good job, even though the waiter said they normally make it normal. The fries were OK, too salty (should have asked before adding salt for me). The service was really friendly. The place too loud for my taste, there are just too many tables.
Came here for the first time for restaurant week. Mocktails were great. we got the oysters to start. they were OK. they only came with a cherry pepper mignonette, no cocktail sauce or hot sauce which is underwhelming. I got the frenchie salad to start — blue cheese & bacon. Easy crowd pleaser. My partner got the pate and he enjoyed it. For entrees I got the mussels & fries. The mussels were so small. Several of them were closed and/or empty. The fries were extremely oily and soggy so we didn’t really eat them. Partner got the corn pasta. The sauce it was in was bizarrely sweet, the noodles weren’t cooked perfectly. Dessert, however, was insanely good. The chocolate pot & the bananas foster profiteroles were so delightful and the portions were massive. This made the entire meal better. Service was good. Our waitress was nice, offered more bread for the late when my partner finished his in the pate. The atmosphere is nice as well, we ate in the garden which was very lovely. Overall, I don’t think we’d be interested in coming back for regular dining but we would 100% order the desserts again.
While noon was not a time that we wanted a huge meal, my friend and I went small. And I was kinda disappointed and wondering if we both picked the wrong choice. They gave a huge scoop of chicken liver! which I appreciate but it was not that easy to finish only with thin toasts and raw veg. Plus, it’s liver. Chocolate tart was ok. Good but nothing impressive. Stiff but smooth. The crust was like crushed graham crackers. I hope a next-time visit for steak frites can save the stars.
We came here for brunch on a cold winter Saturday. We were seated quickly but, thankfully we had reservations. The heated garden was filled when we arrived. Upon entry, they took our temperature and provided hand sanitizer for us to use. We had to scan a barcode before sitting down to bring up the menu. I wasn't crazy over this especially if there are people waiting behind you. We ordered a "pot" of tea which was $6 but, it really had enough for a decent size mug. My friends ordered a drip coffee ($3.50) and a hot chocolate ($4). Charsu had ordered the hot chocolate before ordering her main course but, ended up getting her hot chocolate when she was almost finished with her meal. The server had come by a few times and had said that the hot chocolate was on its way but, I think they kinda forgot or maybe they got overwhelmed? Charsu ordered the Croque Madame ($16) and they enjoyed it. Selphie and I both ordered the Egg Louie ($17). The meal was tasty but, the execution was poor. The salad had giant pieces of lettuce leaves/greens. I felt like this should have been chopped and mixed together. I thought the eggs Benedict would have been served like an open faced sandwich. Instead, they placed the eggs on top of croissant. The croissant was hard and this layout made it hard to get eggs on top of every bite. Perhaps, they should have used a Portuguese muffin or served it open faced. They gave a very meager portion of crab that it was more of an after note than a main attraction. I would say half of a teaspoon (not a heaping teaspoon either) was all the crab I got. Also, our poached eggs were overcooked. One of my eggs was cooked too long but, both of Selphie's eggs were almost hard boiled eggs. Again, I am assuming they were "busy" in the kitchen which caused the overcooked eggs. When I went to use the restroom to wash my hands and my Invisalign, I heard them playing Nelly "It's Getting Hot Here" song. I had a feeling that either they were watching the memes or trying to make one themselves because there was a loud uproar of laughter. I am curious how they had time to do that but, not cook our eggs properly? However, I must say that the staff was generally nice. When we left, everyone thanked us and wished us a good day. Perhaps, I might return later in the year but, I am still a bit salty over my dish.
Recommended to come here many times. Honestly, food is okay. Tried to give everything a try (chicken pate, steak frites, cod which I don’t think they offer anymore). Wine was mediocre (had the borgnone rouge) and served at the wrong temperature (way too warm). Vibes are good and service was casual/friendly. Would be down to give it another try in the future.
We were very excited to try this place, but ultimately our experience was disappointing enough that we won’t be back anytime soon. Our server was very warm and friendly, and we were impressed the high chair they gave us wasn’t broken (as is the case with most places in Brooklyn). However it took 50 minutes for our food to come, and we were never given an explanation or updates. The food itself was hit or miss. Ultimately they took $10 off our $100 bill because of the wait, which was appreciated, but didn’t make up for the long delay. The oysters were okay, nothing special but at least they didn’t taste off. The crème brûlée French toast was very tough and dry. The eggs Louis was fine, but a little cold (also wish the menu had mentioned it had green onions). The fries were excellent. The madeleines were also excellent, but the croissant alright but was very soft with no crunch. Overall great potential, uneven execution, we will not be back.
This ambience of this restaurant is nice, but the food was just OK. Service was not good. My waitress was very cold and unhelpful when I ordered and she took my order exactly as I had given it to her. Upon changing my mind a few minutes later and asking her to update something we had ordered, only then did she give me feedback on what I had ordered and suggested a change. Had I not checked back in with her, she wouldn't have said anything. Throughout the rest of the night she was really cold and not very helpful. The tables are really small and when another person came to bring us our food, he just left us to figure out how to puzzle all the plates together. I picked up some plates so he could put the entree on the table, and he left me just holding the additional plates to figure out how it would all fit. The food was OK, the steak was the best of what I got. The escargot itself was fine but the side it came with was not good. I would say this place is cute but definitely not worth what you pay for. Wouldn't go back.
Love the decor and patio. Don’t like the tiny bathroom. Been here twice. First time for a birthday dinner pictures are from that. Food was good. I loved the coco nojito (no achl) drink. Almost creamy. Simple sweet. Had raw meat for the first time ever here and it actually tasted good. Now I like steak tartare! The prawns are best item on menu imo. Service was good. Attentive. Second visit I went with a girlfriend. Food was same quality but service was terrible. Felt like the waitress was actively avoiding our table. Got to the point my friend and I were making bets on whether or not she’d come to our table and we won every time. There was a point there was only one table out on patio and our table. She went to check on THAT table came back inside WALKED PAST US and did not check on us for another 30min. Felt extremely purposeful and rude. Don’t think I’ll be back but it is a cute restaurant.
I tried to get a healthy dish so ordered the socca with multi grains and fried egg, but unfortunately it wasn’t that great. Also someone else in my party got a French toast but it was basically a large shared dessert instead of a brunch entree and he could really eat it, would not recommend getting that as an entree. The bread was hard and crusty! The service and ambiance were nice though.
Update: The first time that we dined here, we had such a wonderful time and were excited to come back. Unfortunately, our most recent experience wasn’t as great. The service is friendly, but absolutely not attentive. No one ever checked in on our table, they do not pour wine or water even when you purchase bottles. I had to wait several minutes to flag someone down to have them fix my meal. They don’t observe dietary restrictions and food, allergies. they never asked us if we wanted anything else before they brought the check. They rushed the appetizers. It was a stereotypical young , uninspired BK staff. We will not return. 2023: We had a beautiful dining experience in the garden. The 2019 Saint Emilion was perfect. We split a salad, and enjoyed the duck and the papardelle with poached egg. Can’t wait for our next date night at French Louie.
Salt is the chef’s favorite seasoning. The pasta was a “salt bomb” - just dreadful. The broccoli rabe was beyond bitter. Save your time and money there are fifty better places to eat within a 3 miles radius.
This place has potential! However the service here is pretty awful because it takes agesss for food and drinks to get out. And when its out its pretty trash. The duck is extremely overcooked and the steak has way too much pepper. But the salads are nice tho. The drinks are terrible, either too sweet or too strong you can barely drink them. So far i wouldnt recommend this place. Definitely a skip!
I was recommended this restaurant by a friend who had multiple great experiences here, so I was super excited to try, but my own experience was disappointing. My reservation was for an outdoor table, but when we arrived at 6, the whole restaurant was empty except for one party, so I asked if we could be seated inside instead. The host firmly said no and that there would be no indoor availability until 8, so we were seated outside. About ten minutes after we sat down, the host lead another party of 2 outside who had outdoor reservations (said so by the host himself), but they expressed that they did not want to sit outside. Then, to my shock, the host promptly seated them inside instead when he told us there was absolutely no availability. I do not understand why they were treated differently than us and I felt discriminated against. It might be because we were POC and the other party was two white women. Oh another thing that I want to mention is that the bench had a decent amount of ants crawling on it. The appetizers we ordered, steak tartare and escargot, both tasted fine, although not very flavorful, so no real complaints there. The leaves in the salad that came with the steak were not fresh and had yellow spots on them. We brought this up to the server, who took it to the manager, which I appreciated him doing and they gifted us a free blackberry sorbet. The price point of this place is too high to not be using fresh ingredients in my opinion. Additionally, when we finished our meal at 6:50, half of the restaurant was empty still, so we could have 100% sat inside and left before the table had to be given to someone else.
