Il Brigante Albee Square Reviews
Great experience at Il Brigante! The food was very fresh and tasty, the service was polite and accommodating. We held our post-wedding dinner here on Saturday and the service for our large party was impeccable. Food came out quickly and empty plates were cleared in a subtle manner. Dianna was the best server— so nice, very friendly, and she made the whole meal flow efficiently! Everyone loved the appetizers (calamari, burrata & Caesar salad were hits) and people loved their entrees too! The desserts were awesome— the creme brûlée was my personal favorite. Overall an amazing experience & we look forward to going back again!
It was the 4th of July so it was a bit hectic, but I think the staff handled it as best as they could. It was a bit warm. Despite that though, the food was very good and hot! The burrata was amazing!!!! I had the bolognese and the other party had a pasta dish. I would definitely return and I highly recommend. I also recommend making reservations!!! It was quite busy.
Excellent Italian restaurant!!! Good food, friendly staff, clean and welcoming location! It feels exactly like being in Italy! I can't wait to go back, five stars well deserved, I highly recommend you go there.
I loved the ambiance and coziness! We got a small table next to the brick wall and we practically had lunch with the table next to us, because the place is small, but we loved it. The Pizza quattro stagioni and the Arugula and pear salad were amazing! We also had profiteroles for dessert and they were delicious. This place feels like we are all a big family eating together. My only concern are the possible safety risks for my pals the waiters, due to the reduced space (posture problems, stepping into each other, etc). I would also recommend having more than one bathroom.
Fantastic atmosphere, food was good, Drinks were Fantastic! Servers were really nice!
Really great for the price! Place definitely gets too crowded though
I stumbled into this place on a hot summer day.. I'm so glad we found this gem. My daughter, who can be a picky eater, was all about their spaghetti with marinara. I had nice pear and gorgonzola salad. The wine was on point as well. The staff was absolutely amazing. If you go to IL Brigante I promise you won't be disappointed. 5 stars for sure!
We were running on a tight schedule, they took our order and make sure we got everything on time. That's from one side! OMG their pizza, it's been the best pizza that I ever had in my life. It was so delicious that we finished it even earlier. It was a great experience and I look forward to come back soon.
Very yummy pasta and pizza! We came here on Saturday early evening and didn't have a problem getting a table for two. Not too noisy, and friendly wait staff. The pasta was very fresh (we had the Spaghetti alla Carbonara) and we devoured it. The pizza we had was the Pescatora and don't believe the waiter when they say it is personal size (unless you're REALLY hungry!), It is a generous size! Single bathroom in the back, spacious and clean! There is no changing table though (if you are a young family and looking for something like that).
This was some of the best pasta I’ve had in NYC. We came here after hitting up the IPIC to watch Nope. Great after movie dinner spot. We sat outside and had a view of the Brooklyn Bridge which was nice. The pasta was cooked perfectly and was crazy tasty. I washed it all down with a Spritz.
Very clean restaurant and the guys were great. I was meeting a good friend of mine I haven’t seen since college and he was in NYC from London for business. I had a lamb and baked potatoes with veges it was delicious in Manhattan business area.
First time here last night and man, I can stop talking about the pasta. We had the Rigatoni Funghi e Salsiccia which might have been the best pasta dish I have had. The pasta was cooked perfectly to al dente. Not too hard, not too soft, just the right amount texture. The pink sauce was so good we were dipping our bread in it by the end of the night! Man I want to go back already! We also had the Brigante pizza which was a quality pie as well. Good tasty sauce. Great dough texture from the brick oven. It’s a small spot in the seaport area. The seaport area is great to walk around and hang out. The place is a little loud and only has one bathroom. But actually the bathroom is one of the cutest well put to together bathrooms I have seen in NYC. I would definitely go to this place if you are in the seaport or FIDI area! Get the pasta for sure!
A wonderful, cozy spot. Much so that I spontaneously proposed to my longtime girlfriend at this restaurant and it did not dissapoint. They even served us two glasses of champange without asking. Service was wonferful and the food was exquisite. Location is perfect near the seaport, far from the noisy and crowded areas and atractions. It will definitely be a must go to restaurant for me now everytime I visit Manhattan. As a restaurant owner and enthusiast myself, I congratulate the team and administration. Can’t wait to be back.
Brigante is the best Italian restaurant in New York! Delicious food every single time - my husband and I have had almost everything on the menu and never disappointed. The service is unmatched - they treat you like family!! Brigante has been a staple in our lives for years. We usually eat food from brigante multiple times a week. A few of our favorites are the bruschetta, burrata, mussels, black ink linguine seafood pasta, the farfalle campagnolla, homemade rigatoni with pink sauce, the bolognese, chicken Marsala, I could go on! The pizzas are also amazing. Fantastic atmosphere, amazing service and delicious food! Brigante is an all time favorite!
Dropped in on a rainy day for lunch. Firstly, the service is great! Authentic Italian, very homey. They overheard me say it was cold (from the rain) and so they turned the heat up! So sweet. The Caprese was super fresh, and there is nothing more perfect I could’ve ordered than the Fettuccine Bolognese… I have never had pasta so hot before, which I LOVED. This Bolognese HUGGED MY SOUL. Seriously. It’s like nonna welcomed you warmly into her cosy toasty home and wants nothing more than to feed you a good dish because the satisfaction on your face gives her lifelong peace. 1000% returning!
The cabonara was absolutely amazing fantastic service. The waiter recommeded the cabonara and needless to say I was not disappointed. Honestly i cannot stress how good the cabonara was. Home made lasgna was also ordered at the table. Honestly outer worldly good. Highly recommend this spot. Edit: dessert menu got coconut sorbet table ordered tiramisu and ricotta cheesecake. Coconut sorbet was good I thought it was island way from costcos. Glad it wasn't but it was okay. Tiramisu was very coffee forward which my mother loved. I am not the biggest fan. Ricotta Cheesecake was delicious however my 9 year old daughter said and I quote "I don't like the texture." So take that how you want.
Il Brigante is simply wonderful. Great food, great service, great atmosphere—a Seaport District institution located on a truly historic cobblestone street in the very heart of the neighborhood where New York City began. I’ve been a regular customer for eight years and I’ve never been disappointed. Family, friends, business associates … I’ve taken them all to Il Brigante time and again. And they all love it!
An unforgettable dining experience at Il Brigante! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the warm, inviting atmosphere. Now, let's talk about the food! Agnello Scottadito - A perfect balance of flavors. The lamb was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection. It paired wonderfully with the seasoning and sides. Branzino Al Fomo - An absolute standout! The fish was so fresh, and the presentation was top-notch. The flavors were delicate yet satisfying. And let's not forget the Paesana pizza - It was so delicious, I actually forgot to take a photo of it! The toppings were fresh, the crust crispy, and every bite was full of flavor (btw…my first trip and everywhere I had a slice of pizza was on point). I would definitely recommend Il Brigante to anyone looking for authentic Italian flavors in NYC. The service was excellent, and I can't wait to come back and try more dishes!
A little gem by the water! If you want generously portioned delicious Italian meal to end the day on a high note, this is your place! The cozy restaurant, friendly and very professional staff are a perfect set up for a romantic dinner as well as group celebrations. I went back few times. Don't miss it while strolling the water front!
Had dinner here with friends from out of town. There are tables large enough to accommodate 8 if you walk in. If you need more seating, call ahead and they will gladly arrange for you. There's mostly win but a few mixed drinks are offered. The lamb was perfectly seasoned and cooked. The fettucine alla bolognese was a huge portion. For dessert, the cannolis were crisp and the filling wasn't too sweet. The macchiatto was a great finisher. Service can be a bit slower during busy times so make allowances for the staff - they're doing an amazing job, all things considered.
I had to take a trip into Manhattan to run an errand for some friends and was in the mood for some fine dining afterwards. Me and a couple of friends found our way here and enjoyed every minute of it. The flavors in the pasta were delicious, we had a very smooth and easy to drink Pinot Grigio, recommended by the waiter himself. I ordered the bolognese, recommended by a separate waitress, and it did not disappoint (forgive the photo, as I dug right into it). It was a beautiful night out so we sat outdoors. There's a lot of foot traffic because of the area you're in, but nothing troublesome by any means. Would definitely recommend this place to someone when they're in town!
A solid Italian dinner spot with good pasta and pizza. Relaxed atmosphere, great location, and an easy place to settle in after a long day out. We would definitely come back.
Awesome Italian place. Love it, love it. Highly recommended. Black linguine with Seafood was perfect... Soup was delicious. Tiramisu was perfection. Always packed with customers.
Beautifully decorated restaurant filled with cozy, rustic, and warm Italian decors. Matching the atmosphere of the interior design, the food was delicious and tasted like I was visiting the countryside in Italy. The burrata salad was delicious and is a great appetizer to share. My partner got salmon with a side of vegetables, in which he exclaimed was very homey and flavor. I got an arugula pear salad with blue cheese, which was delicious, but I regret not adding some sort of protein to it. The servers were very friendly and informed. It is a wonderful little restaurant near the Southport area that is family-friendly. They also offer outdoor dining, which will be even better during summer!
Nice cosy Restaurant in Italian style. Location is close to the river in a nice area. Service was great and quick. Quality was good! If you around, take a stop there👍
First visit New Year Eve 2021 then again 1/1/22 and have been going throughout 2022. Food and service both are excellent! Visited again on 12/31/22 and 1/1/23. We both had the Linguine allo Scoglio on New Years Eve 2022 and on 1/1/23 we had the Saltimbocca alla Romana and Salmone al Vino Bianco e Capperi both were excellent! The food is always consistent and worthy of many repeat visits. Back again on New Years Eve 2023 we had the Linguine allo Scoglio @$36ea, Tbk Vermentino di Sardegna @$53 and 2 Zuppa del Giorno Lentil @$14ea. Consistent and as good as ever.
Went on a date, around 10PM. While other restaurants in the area had already closed down on a Sunday night. This spot was still open and featured a large variety of pastas which we were excited about. The decor matched the cool European vibe that goes with seaport and the food was delicious. There are about 5 Italian places on that street and this might have the cutest outdoor seating structure of them all. The cute little table lights definitely set the mood for a romantic dinner. If I could give them a single advise- it would be to choose a different set of songs, pop music doesn’t go well with fine dining, in my experience but I could be wrong. Instrumental ambient music would make the experience ever so more elegant. 😊
I was staying at the Fairfield Inn in the Fi-Di area and an employee their recommended this place for Italian food and it did not disappoint! The salad, and pastas we ordered and picked up was nothing short of great. Definitely my go to for Italian food in the city unless someone can prove otherwise, which will be hard to do! Pastas and salad was amazing.
Another great meal! We always look forward to eating here. My husband had the Halibut putanesca special and I had my usual Rugatoni with sausage and mushrooms! Never disappoints. Navid, is a great manager and is so attentive. Pasta is amazing and you feel like your in your Nonnas kitchen! ❤️
First time here. We loved all the food we ordered 10/10 That garlic focaccia was everything with the spicy olive oil. Such a cozy restuarant. We will be back here again soon.
This place is very special to me. I’ve been here many times and I’ve never left disappointed — I’ve loved every single visit. From the moment you walk in, they make you feel at home, like part of the family. The food is always delicious, made with fresh ingredients, and you can truly feel the effort, dedication, and love the chefs put into every dish. The managers and the entire team always welcome guests with a smile and incredible kindness, making every visit a warm and genuine experience. Everyone I’ve recommended this restaurant to has loved it, and that says everything. Without a doubt, this is my favorite restaurant in NYC. For me, it’s not just a restaurant, it’s a home. Thank you to the whole team for so much care!!!✨🫶🏻
I can not say enough good words about this Italian Restaurant. I've traveled coast to coast, and this is hands down the BEST Italian food I have ever had. From the food to the service; absolutely amazing. Do yourself a favor, after you eat, try the Tiramisu.
Il Brigante is a fantastic Italian gem tucked away in the historic South Street Seaport. It's the kind of place that feels both cozy and sophisticated, perfect for a night out. The food was absolutely delicious—I'm still thinking about the authentic flavors and quality of the ingredients. Everything tasted fresh and homemade, from the pasta to the perfect balance of spices in their sauces. What really sealed the deal for me, though, were the cocktails. They were expertly crafted and paired beautifully with our meal, enhancing every bite. It’s clear the mixologists put a lot of thought into their creations. The ambiance of the restaurant itself is a huge part of the experience. The low lighting gives the place a warm, intimate feel, creating a true "vibe" that makes you want to linger and enjoy the evening. The service was also top-notch, with a friendly and knowledgeable staff that made us feel right at home. It's not just a restaurant; it's a complete dining experience that transports you with its authentic food and captivating atmosphere. I would highly recommend Il Brigante to anyone looking for a memorable meal with great drinks in a truly special setting.
Absolutely loved this place! PERFECTION! The pasta tasted incredibly authentic. It is my second time visiting this restaurant and will definitely come back when I visit nyc next time. The service was super friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. I especially adored the bread with balsamic and olive oil. The appetizer was fantastic too, super fresh, beautifully presented and full of flavour. I enjoyed everything from start to finish. Can’t wait to come back! ☺️
Lunch on Friday al fresco at il Brigante on a quiet side street near South Street Seaport. We started with the arancine. For main courses we had gnocchi alla Sorrentina, fettuccine Bolognese, and spinach fettuccine with truffles, mushrooms and tomatoes, along with a crisp Vermentino. It was a long, leisurely and delicious lunch!
Lovely cozy authentic Italian restaurant. Service is amazing, very attentive and knowledgeable with suggestions. The place isn’t that spacious, so just keep in mind you’ll be close to the next table. They also provide outdoor seating as well. Bread is served complimentary with balsamic vinaigrette and oil. For the appetizers, We ordered the fried Calamari with Shrimp. So delicious. For the entree we got Penne Al Pomodoro, & Farfalle alla Campagnola- which is bowtie pasta sautéed with broccoli rape, sundried tomatoes in wine and garlic. Loved it. & last we ordered breaded cutlet with cherry tomatoes and arugula. Overall the food was amazing. We never eat Italian, and this did not disappoint.
Slow down and enjoy the authentic flavors of SOUTHERN Italian food. Puglia/Bari and South! If you're from a southern Italian family or you love the region, this small but popular and busy restaurant is what you're looking for. Located in the South Street Seaport. The handmade creations are quite literally like no other except maybe your Nonna or favorite Auntie. If you're real lucky, your mother. Choose a rainy mid day late lunch early dinner to truly get an opportunity to savor the relaxed atmosphere that let's you eat the way food is meant to be eaten. Slowly. Enjoyed. The scent and visuals are not disappointed by the incredible flavors. The espresso is NOT Starbucks. And the desserts may be the best kept Italian pastry and desserts secret in NYC. I said what I said! Enjoy their hand made gnocchi that will have you questioning why you ever thought pre packaged was good. The authentic & most flavorful sauce is absorbed by each little potato gnocchi enhancing the overall feeling of having been invited into a home of the chef. Or , the phenomenal experience of delicate yet rich handmade ravioli with a butter based sauce so as to enhance but not cover or compete with the most delectable ricotta filling. The comfort food is elevated to a standard that cannot be duplicated without a true passion for Southern Italian Home Cooking. But let's discuss the desserts. I personally haven't had an Italian Cream Puff that tastes like this since my mother and aunt stopped making them. But then, you're spoiled by what tastes like a chocolate Nutella mousse topping. You know how people do the "I'll just eat half " thing? Well this is certainly shareable. But I don't mind telling you, I turned into Joey from Friends. "JOEY DOESN'T SHARE FOOD" took on a personal meaning in my life. And I was prepared to eat my husband's plate as well if he failed to eat it all. After all there is plenty of room to walk it off at the Seaport if you MUST. This isn't really the spot for a one hour lunch. This is not a hustle location. You're cheating yourself and the purpose of this food if you do that. Set aside a day that has no rush. Get there between 2 and 3pm. Go with a person or two or five that you truly like. And let yourselves enjoy the slowed down pace of handmade authentic food both created and served to be enjoyed and nourish. That, is the essence of a True Italian Home Meal. Slowed down. Conversation. Connection. And flavors for the palette and the soul. As for pricing it is a small restaurant in NYC. So it's not "cheap". It's not meant to be. With bread service , wines, coffees, dessert and dinner it was about $100 per person. There was no incling of rush and there was no hesitation for the bill when requested. And yes, this is an excellent romantic dining location that is also appropriate for families. Oh and the music? It's 80s and 90s top 40 hit which is a lot of fun to enjoy. We had a sweet family seated next to us. As the only late entries to the restaurant to eat, and us being the only other patrons, they were laughing and singing. Including their youngest child who was amazingly well versed in classic U2. So if you're a New Yorker who moved to the suburbs like me, a local looking for those small and authentic restaurants, or visiting..... this is a can't miss location. Do not skip dessert. Trust me. Oh and that espresso? Good luck going back to Starbucks. That is some grandma powered percolated on the stove rocket fuel. AND I WAS HERE FOR EVERY LAST DROP. I shoulda asked for some Anisette!
A very authentic Italian restaurant in the South Seaport area in downtown Manhattan. Food is great, service is fast, and restroom is big and well maintained. I recommend you make a reservation in advance since the restaurant is not so big and is very crowded. Desserts are amazing and it's a must-have!!
You know the food was good when you’re still talking about it the next day. Excellent high quality Italian food. The rigatoni funghi e salsiccia was the star of the show (luckily), bc two of us ordered it. The bread was pretty bad, possibly stale, but I doused it in the tasty balsamic and yeah.. no I didn’t eat any more. Dishes were excellent, service was attentive, and Mom approved the bathroom. 👍🏽 There are a ton of Italian restaurants in the neighborhood and it’s hard to tell them apart. This was a non-touristy, fantastic bet. Over the course of dinner the restaurant hit capacity and was a cozy vibe.
Authentic Italian with great service. Popped in while on the way to ice skate at around 8PM. Asked if they could accommodate 7 of us within an hour or so. Even though the place was very busy, they said yes. When we returned, we choose to dine outside in their enclosed outdoor space. It was quiet and cozy, and the electronic candlesticks added to the ambiance. The food was flavorful and amazing! I had the Linguine alla Scoglio which I recommend. The chicken dish was great too. We all enjoyed our meals and experience. The waitress was knowledgeable about the food and knew her wine selection. By the way, they only serve beer and wine. Couldn’t get over how delicious the food tastes. Definitely going back!
Wonderful place for some authentic Italian food, the service and quality of food is top notch! I stopped by only because I couldn't read anything, so it must good. So I cant even spell anything Italian for this review, so I did the closest possible translation in English. Ham Pizza with Olives: The crust was good, thin and gently seasoned. The ham and olive were generous and was very satisfied with the pizza. The sauce was sweet and perfect. Vodka Sausage Pasta: The vodka sauce was extremely good, you can taste a hint of Vodka as well, it is just very well blended. The sausage was also a perfect mat h for the dish. Bread: The bread was great, crispy and soft. The fluff is perfect with dip they give you, great bread they use.
Wonderful service. The gentleman who was waitering/bussing was extremely generous. The Rigatoni all Norma was fantastic. The house red wine was what you would expect. Friend is was with got the Rigatoni Funghi e salsiccia, had some of it, the sausage was devine (go ahead, insert joke here). Will be back for sure.
Omonomonom. Haven’t been here in a while. I usually come here in the summer as they have great Aperol spritz. Came here on the coldest day of the year so far and carbo loaded with my friend. The gnocchi were fluffy & delicious. The tartufo was the champ for us though but you never go wrong with chocolate. Service was good with attentive staff. Homey & cozy.
Came here for a team lunch. It was 90+ degrees outside and the air conditioner was running but the pizza oven made it very warmer inside. The food and the service were excellent. Other than the temperature, the experience was great. I will definitely go back and bring friends and family.
Tried many dishes, Linguine allo Scoglio, Pollo e Salsiccia, Lobster pasta, and pizza. Overall I can say that the food was average. I expected more from reading and the pictures but was a little disappointed. We didn’t have to wait long to get seated without a reservation, but we waited long for our dishes to come out. I ordered a pizza that should take 5 minutes to prepare and waited around 40 minutes. Would try once just but as an Italian I wouldn’t say this is authentic.
Good stuff. Popped in here, with a reservation, on a busy Friday night, prior to a concert at Pier 17. Service was really good. Tables were turning fast. Our glasses were never empty and the dinner came out hot and fresh. Recommended to some friends who have made it a regular stop since then.
Great food and service but it’s kind of spoiled by how packed the place can get. At peak hours you will literally be elbow to elbow with guests at another table because the space is small. I think the whole place would be better served by dropping 20-25% of the tables and just up prices by whatever amount would offset the losses. The quality of the food and recipes would still ‘draw’ people!
We were walking down the harbor and got hungry, tried to find somewhere to eat and while there seem to be many not many of them sound good. But this place looked the cutest and food looked the best We had tuna tartar and short rib pasta , both were very good. they also served some bread to begin with. Service is good as well. Love the outside seating and as the weather was perfect that day
This place was decent but nothing to scream about. I ordered the grilled chicken, potatoes and vegs. The chicken was salty. The waiter was polite and so was the bus boys. The weather was perfect when I went. I may consider going here again
We came back to this place after 7 years. My husband loved the place and really wanted to come back but in all honesty it was a bit of a disappointment. Pizza was not done well and kinda messy. Calamari size was small and just not yummy- granted we did ask that they not use beer in the batter. But the pasta with seafood was delicious! They seemed nice and did chat with us but seemed distracted. It’s great they survived the hurricane and are still standing, but the feel and the food felt different from the last time we were there.
This didn’t taste like authentic Naples style pizza because crust is too thick and crispy. Cheese has a plasticky texture and not best quality. I think it’s just low quality mozzarella instead of usual Naples good stuff. It’s not bad but just mid for me. Service and ambiance are terrific, though. I will come back to try pasta.
It’s okay. They took us pretty late, which we were lucky enough about, I guess. Regardless, the waitress was not nice. The atmosphere is definitely shabby chic, including the dishes. When asked why a dish had very obvious chips, the waitress snapped back at us, “because it’s a rustic restaurant.” Okay, I guess that means some terracotta is allowed in our food.
Food is good, service is terrible. Staff kept taking plates even though we were not finished. It must have happened 3-4 times with the appetizers/entrees. Messed up the order and never brought/put in one of the items we ordered. The restaurant was loud/crowded and and the cappuccino was mid.
The food is good from here, but the service is bad. The waitress has a different service attitude between my table and the other table. She never introduced anything about the menu. She took our order and then never came back to ask us if we needed anything or food tasting. I don't feel I get any service, she only takes the order and gives us the bill. I still gave 15% tips, just for the food.
I’ve been here twice, not my suggestion both times. Their gnocchi was dry and bland, same with their cacio e pepe. They also forced a wine refill without us even asking. Honestly the worst Italian I’ve had ever in New York City. Would not recommend.
Awful! Terrible treatment. I called out of courtesy to say I would be 5 minutes late. They pulled my reservation. Do not go here. Terrible way to treat customers.
I would give zero stars if I could. I have lived in the financial District for over 10 years and always try to patronize local restaurants and have eaten and ordered delivery from/at this establishment more times than I can count. Tonight my order did not arrive- I called repeatedly and was told they had a large party and too bad. This was after 1 and 1/2 hours. I was told to wait another 1/2 hour- so 2 hours from order or they would cancel because kitchen just hadn’t gotten to my order yet. This is unacceptable. Especially considering, that during the pandemic we made sure order from this establishment at least once a week from their restaurant website to make sure they had business and didn’t have to pay third party fees and instead they felt it was more important to cater to one time tourist customers. Sad but I am done.
THIS RESTAURANT WILL NOT HONOR YOUR RESERVATION!!!! Went here once and had a lovely time. Made another reservation and was 3 minutes late to my reservation (fully within the 15 minute grace period, especially for a not crowded restaurant) and the wait staff was nasty to me / my party and gave away my table. I will not be returning to this restaurant.
BEWARE. This is NOT good food. Borderline inedible. The meatball appetizers tasted microwaved. My pasta was sub par at best and severely overcooked. The bolognese looked like jarred prego sauce. The service was pretty bad and they seemed bothered while we were there. The cheese they gave us to put on our pasta was downright disgusting. And the bread service was dry at best. For reference we are locals and were so excited to try this restaurant after living a couple blocks away for the last year and a half. So disappointed.
