Sophie’s Albee Square Reviews
10 stars if I could. #1 most underrated restaurant in Brooklyn. Best food spot in NYC. OXTAIL IS OUT OF THIS WORLD! Felt like I was in Cuba!
Catering Service was patient, efficient and thorough. Communication was consistent. And the value for the food you get is amazing.
The food was excellent had 2 orders this week fresh and had more then enough for dinner
I'm from FL staying in Brooklyn and happened upon Sophie's Cuban. Their food is so authentic and fresh. I had the cuban sandwich and fried sweet plantains. The price is reasonable and the ambience is wonderful! Definitely will be back :)
Accidentally rated one star, meant to give five. Great restaurant, one of my all time favorite places to eat!
Sophie’s Cuisine completely caught me off guard—in the best way possible. From the moment I walked in, the warmth of the atmosphere made it feel more like a family kitchen than a restaurant. The service was attentive without being pushy, and everything felt personal, like they genuinely cared about the experience. Now let’s talk about that Cuban sandwich. Hands down, it’s my favorite item on the menu. Perfectly toasted bread, tender pork, tangy pickles, and melted cheese layered with precision—but what really set it apart were the potato sticks. That crispy crunch woven throughout the sandwich? Genius. It’s comfort food with character. I’ve had Cuban sandwiches before, but none like this. If you’re looking for food that’s not just delicious but made with heart, Sophie’s Cuisine won’t let you down.
I love this Cuban food place, the flavors are not too heavy and pretty light being spot on with extremely flavorful meats. The portion sizes here are also really good with giant chicken thighs, flavorful sides. Additionally there are a pretty large amount of clean tables. Overall this is a really convenient and nice Cuban food place.
I had always passed the restaurant but never stopped as I was thinking over thick, slice hero bread with tons of meat stuffed inside, I saw a sign that said Empanadas so I went in and realized I was completely wrong about this restaurant. Ox tails, bake chicken, salads, salmon, and so many other delicious looking meals and did I mention that I love flan and yes they sell that also I can't believe I had misjudged this restaurant for so many years but not anymore. Today, I picked up 3 empernadas, which was good but better with some hot sauce to enhance my taste. I would definitely be back to this Cuban home cooking restaurant. Please go and see what's inside. Don't be like me and misjudg this restaurant for so many years.
Fast and delicious. This location is close to my job and I just love it when I have it for lunch. I usually get pernil with yellow rice, beans and sweet plantains. This is the full combo, gets me feeling so content and satisfied. Like look at this! I can barely finish it myself. Always bring leftovers home!
Good spot for lunch with daily lunch specials. Cherry on top is they take Inkind as payment so everything is discounted more.
The food was good. I love the beef empanada. Others love their spicy green sauce, which you can buy in pints. The Cuban sandwich was OK. The service was fast. They had a lot of different options with hot food. I like the pernil with plantains, rice, and beans. I spent about $15 per person.
I enjoy the food here and take out once a month. I rotate tasting the various empanadas and have bought the package to share during cocktail hour. The roast chicken is delicious their green sauce is the best! picante and flavorful. Clean space, but cafeteria-like. Very pleasant service, too.
My first time and experience at Sophie’s, customer service was horrible. I ordered my food at the counter just before going to church a few doors away. I receive better customer service at Burger King. Server V had an attitude with me, although I was polite with her. I don’t understand was it because of my race?
Chicken was dried out like it was sitting for days in the roaster. Asked for another piece and they wouldn't give it even though they served the last piece of chicken from the old batch that looked like garbage after they brought a new batch out.
I purchased the $9.99 Bake Chicken with Rice and Beans and a side of plantain. I’m not sure which part of my meal was bad but I immediately felt sick to my stomach while eating my lunch. Ended up sick when I got home.
Quality and service has gone completely down hill but because I’ve been a long time customer I didn’t want to completely give up on them. Last week I ordered for delivery and it took close to 2 hours, food was cold and nowhere near the quality it used to be. Then tonight I ordered again, 2 hours and no update on my app. Called the restaurant and it was clear they literally just forgot to make it. Not only that but the guy on the phone didn’t even apologize and just told me to call and order over the phone next time. Unless you want to go thru a high probability of not receiving your food in a timely manner I would avoid.
The restaurant used to be very decent. Ok prices, good food. I used to get their delicious Cuban sandwiches, and got one last night. This place is now cutting corners in the worst possible way. This is their Cuban now: a slice of dried up, flat, salty piece of pork topped with a couple of tasteless tiny pieces of old lettuce and zero mayo/mustard (although I asked for both). Dry and completely tasteless. I threw it out. A joke. For 11.99 plus tax. My advice: don't go.
I have been here twice. The first time was late in the evening and it was empty. The food was good and the service was great. However today during lunch time things are very different. Where do I begin? Well I’m African American . As I approached the counter whoever was supposed to take my order decided to walk away for no apparent reason. When Caucasian people approached their orders were taken ahead of me although I was on line and in front of them. I could only laugh about it. But I was sarcastic and asked why did you walk away when I approached? Of course there was no response. Caucasian people also get the “How are you greeting?” I didn’t. After my order was made the cashier attempted to ring it up but she asked the Caucasian people that had bulldozed their way ahead of me. Before I could answer she had already put down my order was inquiring as to what their order was. I finally got my order paid and added some more sarcasm. I don’t judge or hate any race of people, I simply take each experience in life as a lesson. Interpret it how you like but this was my experience. I’m not angry just annoyed and that pretty much spoils lunch. When at Sophie’s be aware! Don’t judge the food but weigh the experience you receive from the people who are serving you. I wouldn’t even waste my time speaking to a manager or otherwise. I have been in this situation many times. But this is probably my first time sharing.
